First time and last .... This was my first time at Painters and I will absolutely never go back and tell everyone I know to stay far away. First off, place was dead on a Friday night. We ended up going there with a whole crew of about 30 straight from a wedding so you think they would have been happy to have a crowd/make some money. The first thing that "ticked" me off was my two sisters were sitting on a couch near the walls and the bouncer told them they couldn't sit there bc it was a reserved section ..... meanwhile the table it was near was for us. And no one else was in the place so curious who could be so anxious to sit there. They were bored and picking on people. They charged us over $100 for a few drinks which is expected in Manhattan but not in tacky bar in Long Island. Despite us bringing them business, they wanted us out and they were as nasty as humanly possible to us about it. They may have well literally thrown us to the curb. On the way out, my sisters and I were standing to the side waiting for someone in the bathroom and I hear someone yell from the bar ... "the door is that way" And I replied that we were waiting for someone.... and then some guy sitting at the bar says, in the rudest of all rude tones, that he will help us find out way out if we don't get out....... when I approached the man about his disrespectful comment to me and my sisters I was advised to "back off" because he was the owner of the place. Horrible place, disgusting rude owner and minion rude bouncers. No stars, will never go back. Highly recommend staying away. read more

What do you get when you take a old burnt down catering hall from the 90's and reopen in with a bunch of paintings? Well as the name implies, you get "Painters!" This location has been in my bookmarks for years, I'm mad at myself for taking so long to get here. Let me explain why. When you pull in you know by the large parking lot that this place is special. It has plenty of parking but trust me you need reservations. The parking was plenty but seat went fast. When I arrived I had not called in advance, but lucky for me they had one seat available without reservations. I took it and was served by a wonderful waiter. This guy was smart, funny and knowledgeable about the business. He was also very good at his job. I immediately put in a order for wings and they brought over a loaf of bread stuffed with butter; which was delicious by the way. On the table before the bread came was a glass jug of extremely cold water. Also they use mason jars as cups which was cool. A quick look around the place and you get a homey feel about it. Tall boy seat in the middle and booths around the side. One thing you will notice is that the walls are covered top to bottom with paintings. It's pretty amazing. You will get lost in the sight of things. The wings came over and the feast began. I must say the wings were amazing. I definitely didn't hide my appreciation of them. I stopped my waiter and told him. He agreed saying they were his favorite. Later in the evening the burgers came out. Now, I know what your thinking, "Every time Evan goes to a place and loves the food he says the burgers are amazing." Well that's almost true. I can go to a place enjoy the food and still give it three stars. But "Painters" deserves five stars. That burger was delicious, I mean it met all my expectations. The mushrooms were lightly sautéed and had a wonderful flavor to them. The onions were perfect and the bacon, they used so much bacon I thought that I was stealing from them. I thought I mistakenly ordered a BLT with a side of burger. This burger was filling. Our wonderful waiter never left anything on the table and asked "If I needed anything" on cue. My experience is that this place is worth my coming again. I plan to bring a party next time. They offer catered events and have sliders. "Painters," a catering hall turned restaurant, has a place in my heart for life. read more

I went to painters for the first time and the ambiance was good. It was a busy night with the entertainment so we didn't see our waiter much. The food... was great with the appetizers but my salad was no good. I ordered chicken on top which was over cooked and dry and there was barely dressing on the salad. I get it being busy but I was charged 11 bucks for adding chicken that was inedible. read more

I've been meaning to try Painter's for ages. So we finally decided to get over there. We made a reservation and headed over for mother's day. It's so much bigger than it looks from the street. It has an eclectic decor of odd art. We were seated right away, our waiter came over greeted us, gave us a few minutes look over the menu. He took our drink order and appetizer order. Drinks and app came out quickly. But, we had no silverware or plates. Here's where the problems start. There are a ton of people working here, but no one knows what to do. We asked one person for silverware, they bring us one set. (We're a table of 3) Then someone else brings out 2 more. There's so much miscommunication and confusion amongst the staff, it's exhausting. The food was good. Nothing was amazing and nothing was horrible. The fried chicken on the arugula salad was really just deep fried. Not what you think when you think about fried chicken. read more

Come here when you need a break from Patch....here's why!! Painter's restaurant is up the road from Patchogue. It has apps, creative menu, bar with delicious and different cocktails, DJ and great live bands. All this without the headache of typical Patchogue spot. So no huge crowds, no underage, no impossible parking and no long lines. So if you need a break from all that come here for a great time! That being said, it does have it's flaws as well. Word to the wise, there is usually a $10 cover after 9pm. We were going there to eat, but still had to pay the cover unless we ordered an entree each. We just wanted a bunch of apps, so we were not refunded for the cover. Dumb. I always liked the apps here. Nachos are banging, the french onion soup is so good and I love lots of their specials. They do great with seafood! But I never had a really good entree here. All the entrees I have tried over many visits were dry, or too salty, or overcooked. Don't bother! And I've never had great service either. Waiters or waitresses seem stretched out, too busy or confused, or even angry! Food takes a long time to come out, and the bread is stale 4 out of 5 times. Live bands are always great here! They pick a great line up!! I've seen so many bands play here and always have fun! The DJ is awesome too! The DJ really knows how to read a crowd. So, it will not be the best meal you ever had in your life, but it's a good change up for apps and a night out. read more

I had not heard of Painters' restaurant but passed by and decided to try it. Oh my god! Who knew it would be such a great find! I had an amazing Tito's mule followed by a truly delicious chicken Marsala with a capellini cake that was cooked to perfection! My hubby had the Dragon bowl with shrimp that he loved. Dessert was really something else with a yummy Linzer Tart a la mode and rice pudding zeppoles which had both chocolate and vanilla sauce! Richie our waiter, was the best! and the 20 year port and cappuccino finish were perfect. Live music is the bonus package! We live in Bayside and will definitely make the drive here again soon! read more

Wow first of all I made a reservation. Was greeted by two girls who couldn't be bothered to look up from their podium. Already a bad start . Not sure if it was because of my skin color . The place was lacking in diversity . How ever soon being sat at our table in the center of the room we were nearly ignored for 15 minutes as a couple who was seated after us was already served water and wine . We literally had waiters a d waitresses stair us straight in the face and walk away . It's unfortunate bc I didn't even try the food before my husband and I walked out and were still not recognized by the staff. What a disappointment. I will not be returning. read more

Went for an early dinner on Friday the 27th at around 3:30PM. We wanted to beat the crowd because we have a one-year-old that periodically has violent fits of rage. I get really embarrassed so I try to hide her from the public as much as possible. ;0) I really like the restaurant itself, the atmosphere, the crowd, no complaints at all. Paper on the table saved us time, we didn't have to look for paper for our six-year-old. - - - - - * SERVER She was nice but disappeared at some point. I don't know what happened. We had a server most of the night, I had asked her for a second cocktail, but she never came back with it. About 15-minutes later, someone else asked me if I wanted another drink and brought it to me. Our original server never returned. Now that I think about it, she must have been scared of the baby. I don't blame her, I try to disappear too, but it doesn't work. * DRINKS Can't really mess up Kettle and club soda. My daughter didn't like her apple juice or iced tea. They both had a unique flavor to them, which she wasn't used to. I tasted both and thought they were delicious. They seemed to be spiked with fruit punch, but that's just what I tasted. * APPETIZERS I was really excited, they had both of my favorites. French Onion Soup and Clams Casino! When I received my French Onion Soup, I was really excited because I could see the dark broth, which is usually a good sign. I was wrong, the soup was terrible. It didn't taste like French Onion Soup at all. I feel bad even writing that, because the soup "looked" great. The Clams Casino I didn't enjoy either. Clams Casino is usually made with littleneck clams, these were made with top neck, I think. Honestly, they were baked clams with bacon, that's it. Clams Casino shouldn't have the same "stuffing" as baked clams. They were alright, but nothing I'd order again. * ENTREES I had the Chicken Marsala. The sauce was DELICIOUS! Mushrooms were fresh and also delicious. The Capellini Cake was AMAZING! The chicken, not-so-much. I personally can't stand thick pieces of chicken, I normally wouldn't even eat them. This is more of a personal preference, I like my chicken thin. I asked for thin chicken, but the server was honest and said the chicken is already prepared and they could not accommodate the request. I'm not sure how you prepare chicken in advance for chicken marsala? Or, did she mean the chicken itself was already cut and ready-to-go? Should that be the case, it would literally take a second to slice it in half. No big deal, I managed. My wife ordered off the Restaurant Week menu. She had the Grilled Dry Aged Prime NY Strip Loin. She enjoyed it. The mashed potatoes were delicious as well. With that, she also picked the Sweet Chili Glazed Shrimp as an appetizer. The shrimp were jumbo and delicious! Shrimp were served on top of Asian Slaw, which was also delicious. I could have made a meal out of that alone! The dessert that was included was a little insulting. She ordered the Cannoli Filled Chocolate Cake a La Mode, and it was literally a 1/8" slice. I get it, $27.95, it's a good deal, but here's my take on these "deals". If we went in and only ordered off the Restaurant Week menu and shared it, give us a 1/8" slice. But, when you order a bunch of other stuff off the regular menu at regular price, hook it up a bit. Maybe bump it up to a 1/2" slice? :0) The portions were big, and we did take a lot of food home. Likely enough for a dinner. - - - - - I'm really at 3.5-stars, but we don't have that option on Yelp. If the French Onion Soup was good, I'd be at 4-stars for sure. There is no doubt that we'll be back, it's definitely worth it. Don't consider my 3-star review bad, it's not. Our first time here. My first impression was very loud and pretty dark. The menu was nice, many interesting choices, made it difficult to order. The bread/butter bowl they bring to the table was original and yummy. For appetizers, we had the Hoisin Ribs, which were amazing. We also ordered the Lobster Baked Clams, which were less impressive, I didn't taste lobster. My husband had the skirt steak, which was cooked perfectly and he enjoyed. I had the Seared Ahi Tuna, which I ordered medium rare and it came medium well. The sweet potato hash that came with it was amazing. Overall, a good meal BUT very pricey. First, I fell in love with the Painter's theme. It brought me right back to art school! I was there as a guest for a baby shower brunch. The food and service was totally top notch!!! The staff was so interactive and friendly, I felt like I was amongst friends! The food was plentiful and amazing. it was a buffet, and everything was fresh and hot. (Oh yeah, the salad was fresh and cold Lol). I asked the hostess if they had a menu that I could take home and she happily gave me one, and took the time to highlight "specials" that she thought I would like. Such great customer service! Painters is a restaurant that basically turns into a club at night. This review is based off my experience coming for the "club" scene. First, they charged a cover fee on a packed out night and the fee for men was 200% higher than the fee for women. Now, I'm not a "men's rights" kind of person, but when I came with a group of ladies and they wanna charge me more? That's not right. Then, on the dance floor i was kicked off the raised platform because the platform was for ladies only. I'm gay so I'm not tryna harass any women, but my whole group I was with were women. They wanted to dance on the raised platform but I could t dance with them. Painters is homophobic. Plain and simple. Think about your non-hetero customers. read more

This place is the worst restaurant on Long Island. From its ridiculously inflated prices, to the absolute jarring volume in the dining room, to the terrible service. I do not know why people continue to come here. I work in the beverage industry and their fountains are clearly dirty and all the drinks have a musty taste and are off. They are definitely ripping customers off using generic brands of soda. The mixed drinks are watered down and over priced. The food is mediocre for the INSANE prices. The owner charged my pregnant friend $5 for a cup of seltzer when she just sat down to rest while there for a band. Come at your own risk, and your wallets. read more

I saw the reviews so decided to go a few weeks ago with two friends. The place was filthy. We were sat near the kitchen but didn't want to ask to be moved and look like a snob. The refrigerator had all spilt milk at the bottom, my water glass had lipstick on it and was disgusting. I got the shrimp scampi burger it was not good at all. The waiter never came back to check on us or ask us if we wanted anymore drinks. I had to wave him down for the check. My friend was generous with the tip I wouldn't have been. Been here three times, First time I came for Sunday Brunch with friends, Second time on a Saturday night for dinner (and they had a band/DJ with dancing) and for dinner on a week night. For brunch they offered a really diverse menu! I got almost like a flat bread with arugula and eggs it was so delicious! The mimosas were great too and I remember our server was so kind! The second time for dinner on a Saturday night, it was busy! We got a table and the place was decorated for Halloween and they had a lot of seasonal food items on the menu and drinks. The apple cider sangria with a cinnamon rim is what made me want to go back again this time of year! That Saturday night there was a band with a crowed maybe 30+ dancing and at the bar which turned into a DJ around 10:30. Everyone seemed to really be enjoying themselves. After dinner I ventured to the bar side to see what was going on and although I didn't dance we sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and maybe had one more of those sangria's The only thing that really threw me off was the bathroom! that night was crowded and the bathroom was flooded there was water all over the floor no toilet paper and just absolutely disgusting. idk if it was a one time thing or every Saturday the bathroom ends up like that. This last time though, I did check out the bathroom and it was much cleaner but still the toilet paper in the stalls were wet and gross For my most recent experience during the week this time of year it was decorated as well. Ordered the sangria again which was just as good! I love them menu here. Restaurants really need something to stand out now a days and their menu is so unique! For apps I had the Hoisin Asian Spare ribs. Highly recommend! Fall off the bone ribs, covered in sauce, so yummy. I ordered the Peach and chicken quesadillas which was interesting but really flavorful! My favorite part is the dessert menu though. Soooo many options it's hard to choose one so we got two! Salted caramel cake and their new rice pudding zeppoles. I enjoyed the rice pudding zeppole, it was like a round churro with rice pudding inside with three dessert sauces on the side. I recommend this place for brunch and mostly dinner but if you are looking for a night out with little effort after dinner come on the weekend! Super disappointed with this visit. I don't like leaving 1 star reviews but there's no other way around it. The bartender had his mask on for quite awhile just over his bottom lip. At one point he moved it up, but then it was back down on his bottom lip. He even pulled it down to talk to someone while other people were eating at the bar. I didn't feel comfortable even ordering a drink since I didn't know if he'd have his mask on while making it. Someone who looked like a server had her mask on but only over her mouth and my daughter said someone she could see in the kitchen didn't have a mask on. I wanted to say something to our server but we sat there for 15 minutes. No one came over other than the person who brought us some water. We all felt uncomfortable with the way that this restaurant handled basic PPE precautions and made the decision to leave. read more

Painters' is pretty much awesome. The food is well crafted and somewhat over the top, especially in portion size. The nachos are immense; bring an appetite and 3 friends. Their tap beer selection is top-notch and features lots of locals, and there's all kinds of craft cocktails. Our servers are always helpful and friendly. Foodwise: they have a little bit of everything. Their somewhat infamous chicken marsala is actually phenomenal. Never been a fan of marsala but theirs is terrific. Awesome flavor and tons of mushrooms and greenbeans, The buttermilk fried chicken is tasty, but more reminiscent of shake-n'-bake than true fried chicken. The calamari appetizer is one of the best versions I've tasted. Arroz con Pollo is a huge plate of deliciousness that is really well seasoned. My most recent visit, I had a Paella special...holy heck, this was amazing. So much seafood, so well cooked, and so delicious. Given the portions and quality of food, I find the prices quite reasonable. The restaurant itself is fully decorated w/ various artwork (makes sense given their name), however the paintings on the walls are all quite odd. I searched the entire meal and did not find one that was visually appealing. read more

I love Painters!! The vibe is so relaxed and chill once you enter the doors. I love how all of the tables, chairs, glasses, silverware, etc. are all different so when you go with a table of 4, it's neat looking (not if you have OCD, of course). I feel like when they recently opened up again the food got better. I've been here a handful of times since then and have never left dissapointed. Some favorites of mine to order here is the seared Ahi tuna, anything involving lamb, and the steaks are always super good. I've also had the crab cakes and a couple other appitizers that were so tasty. Although they are a little on the pricey side, that's what you pay for this kinda of a resturant. Besides the food, they have GOOD beer!! Craft beer is always on tap and they have a good selection. They also feature new beer flights now so you can get a little taste of everything.
