What a cute little theatre! It's nice to run into these small old timey towns and the theatre still serving its original purpose. We caught a Christmas movie (Muppets) matinee and the tickets were reasonably priced and it gave us an hour and a half break from the cold. The snacks available were also not super expensive and they had the movie theatre staples. The theatre doesn't have cup holders so keep that in mind when ordering snacks. If you're short or bringing a child and an adult decides to sit in front of you (when there are plenty of other seats available) you'll be viewing the back of someone's head.

Grapevine does a fun and festive job of transforming into a Christmas destination at this time of year. Me and my daughter went to see the Charlie Brown Christmas/ How the Grinch Stole Christmas double feature on Saturday at 2. The theater was packed with happy people of all ages and the staff was so friendly and full of the Christmas cheer that makes this season so great. Tickets are only $6.00 for the movie classics in the historic theater. I definitely recommend a visit. It's a lot of fun.

My husband and I were married there in October and we were so happy with our decision. I had wanted to get married on White Rock Lake but we had lost out on our date and I was so concerned about finding a new location for a popular time of year. I googled places in Grapevine and came across this gem. Nadine was a godsend. She helped so much and was so nice. Also you are able to get your name added to the movie marquee which was a great touch and there are alot of great spots for photos. The venue was exactly what we were looking for. The wood floors and exposed brick walls were a great backdrop. I refused to spend an arm and a leg for our wedding but still wanted it to look beautiful and we were able to achieve that. Its a special place on Main street.

Burning time to make our flight out of Dallas, we took some of it to tour Grapevine and were treated to an impressive revue of local talent dancing their hearts out to a full house in the modern, clean and heavenly-cool theater. All for free. Dance after dance, these locals swung and swayed, bounced and strutted across the stage with renditions from Bob Fosse's "All That Jazz" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7CeATYYlb0) to Magenta & Riff-Raff thrusting pelvises to the "Time Warp", we wanted more but our plane, which we missed, was waiting. Bummer, ain't it?. This local establishment offers the cultured an idyllic little venue and the sound system is good and loud, almost as loud as the cheering audience. Local artists hang their work from the walls or adorn mannequins with their latest creations. And the air conditioning makes it all so comfortable when it gets hot. So let's do it again, come on...put your hands on your hips and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rtkdo7bOmJc Oh, you want more? Well hot patootie, ya rockers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMRl55U0eDw

The Monday night before Christmas and the city of Grapevine is full of Christmas cheer, what a lovely surprise! The Palace Theatre shows Christmas movies during the season, I came to see It's a Wonderful Life (1946) on the big screen. The screen is on the smaller side, but it's still magical to see the old classics in a theatre. The movies sell out each night, I recommend you plan ahead! Tickets are only $6 (: The concession stand has popcorn ranging from $1 - $4 and soda and candy for $1. This is definitely an old school theatre built in 1940 and survived a fire in the 1980s, so adjust your expectations accordingly and enjoy the atmosphere. My only complaint is the movie started 25 minutes late to accommodate all of the late arrivals. It's a long drive home and 25 minutes makes a difference on a work night. On the plus side, no previews. Main Street in Grapevine is a holiday destination! Be prepared to drive slow through Main as the theatre is at the end of the street.

Love this theatre. $5 Classic movies most weekends that you would hardly ever get to see on the big screen elsewhere. Worth the drive.

Great place to watch an old classic movie. Love the old Hitchcock movies shown here. Very nostalgic air about the place. Wonderful.

If you're a true fine art lover and/or collector without a millionaires budget, then moment you…read morewalk in you know you're in the right place. I was originally drawn to Giddens because I was looking specifically for Manuel Sarmiento's new 'home' after the Artisan's Collective in the BAD closed down (wahhhh) & found he has quite a bit of work here. Also my daughter needed to research female artists for her an art class assignment, so I just happened to be able to have my cake and eat it too here. That day we both accomplished our goals and she walked away with a plethora of (LOCAL) artists to be inspired by and bring to the attention of her instructors and classmates; I walked away with 3 pieces I LOVE. Two pieces (a sculpture and table) by Manuel Sarmiento & a diptych by Rosemary Riddle-Achelpohl. (See pics, aren't they amazing!) Let me also say that a great bonus to this gallery is that it's staffed by said artists, not just someone there just for a paycheck. What a joy to be able to speak with them about their work, hear their stories & see their passion for their craft. There's nothing like having a direct connection to the artists themselves. But don't fret, they know not only about their own work but have vast knowledge on all of the Gallery happenings and other artists showing in this gallery. So ask away about anything and if they don't know the answer they will jump through hoops to get it. Talk about Service! I was so impressed with the time and energy spent on both myself and my daughter in our different goals for the trip. AND when you're talking about Service, they not only delivered but the OWNERS of the gallery delivered to me. They are incredibly friendly, helpful and treat your new art and home with great respect and care. Cherie is also an artist featured in her gallery as well & it shines through that she truly loves both aspects of her profession; both being an artist AND representing the wonderful artists she curates. Don't miss this gallery if you are out shopping for art or if you're just in Grapevine and want a lovely experience seeing local artists' works. ------- UPDATE: kiddo had an assignment to hunt down artists to showcase at class again. I bought art again! It's impossible to resist when there are some truly remarkable artists represented here. Shockingly I didn't walk away with a Sarmiento piece this time. Picked up a watercolor by Naomi Brotherton that I'd eyed last time & couldn't stand to lose the chance to own this time around. The pic I took is awful, but if you know your art mediums, you can clearly see how remarkable it is that this was done in watercolor. Ms. Brotherton is truly mind-blowing in her talent, a master! As usual Cherie was helpful, focused, accommodating, knowledgeable, and a bonus; she's thoughtful. She remembers her clients on sight. She remembers what they bought. She cares! GO to GIDDENS!!!

Lorri Acott will be doing a paper clay workshop at the Holder Dane Gallery and Studios again. I…read moretook the workshop last year and it was fabulous! Not only was it the first time I worked with this type of clay, but the learning experience was great in so many other ways. The techniques used have served Lorri well in her amazing art, which is displayed in private collections and publicly in cities everywhere. It was a joy to learn from her; she has a down-to-earth, laid back attitude and a great sense of humor. The others in the workshop were excellent to be with for the long weekend and the experience levels ranged from beginner to seasoned. Because the pieces were raku fired, waiting with the group for the pieces to finish was a fun and exciting time. I'd recommend this class to anyone interested in clay. Lorri and her husband, Adam Schultz, will be holding workshops at Holder Dane in March, with Adam's figurative clay workshop March 24-26 and Lorri's figurative paper clay workshop March 27-29. This is a rare opportunity that you won't want to miss!
