WHY WE WENT HERE: - dinner with a friend THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - located in The Midway Shopping Center off El Camino Ave (closest to Fulton Ave cross street) - good amount of parking available THE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE): - stage - bar in the center - booth seating against the wall - bar stool seating available as well - for a Saturday evening it was pretty dead THE MENU: - appetizer - chef's special - build your own - kids menu - desserts - sides - non-alcoholic beverages WHAT WE ORDERED: - goat egusi with fufu - jollof - meat pie THE TASTE: *** all African food we have had prior to this experience have been East African (Ethiopian/Eritrean); this was our first West African cuisine experience; we didn't know what to expect in terms of flavor profile - goat: could have been more tender; very bony (which I've been accustomed to growing up having goat at family gatherings); only a handful of small cut pieces - egusi: peppery but could have been more flavorful - fufu: definitely starchy and like a potato mash; some parts were a bit bitter for me - jollof: smoky and spicy but not impressive - meat pie: the appetizer came out WAY after the dinner was already consumed; when it arrived it tasted way better overall than the goat egusi with fufu; there were cold spots in the meat pie from the frozen peas and carrots used; the crust was warm and buttery though - overall have nothing in the flavor profile to compare it to since again, this was our first West African cuisine experience CUSTOMER SERVICE: - after standing by the entrance for a few minutes and no worker in sight, I checked on Yelp to find out you seat yourself; some signage should be posted on whether to wait to be seated or to seat yourself - worker who eventually came out from the kitchen was our server; he was nice but also not the most attentive - bathroom needs a LOT of attention: both stalls did NOT have the toilet seat covers; both stalls were missing toilet paper (the type for the stall toilet paper roll); one stall had home toilet paper (Charmin); soap was barely there; no towels were available; instead there were table napkins stacked on the sink counter to use for hand drying

Sides from my platter - jollof rice and plantain. The goat for the platter was in a separate bowl

The food was really delicious and the wait wasn't long. When I complained about something, the owner was very kind and responsive. I'd definitely return here. We ordered the spicy plantain appetizer and the lemon pepper wings appetizer. For mains, we each had a platter (meet plus rice and plantain): one goat, one chicken, one beef. I didn't like the beef but my friend who ordered it did. The chicken and goat were great!

I asked for half and half.. Chicken stew with a tomato sauce and the egusi soup had chicken as well.

Ooo this place is soooo good, the food is sooo fresh.. Expect a long wait for your food, but it's fresh! They need more associates, working in this building. They have the female cook that works so freaking hard, sometimes she's being a waiter and cooking the food. These people are so humble, you can tell they really want to make you happy. I gave them a 4 star because they also need to get a soda dispenser, they give you canned sodas.. The sodas cost $2-$3.. I asked for half and half; half chicken stew and half egusi soup, I spent like $30 dollars (not bad).... ..... Chicken stew with a tomato sauce and the egusi soup had chicken as well, expect some fish bones in the egusi soup (this is how its usually made) you can taste that the chicken was fried first and then sauce added on top, literally so bomb, fresh and hot to the touch

Fufu, rice, goat stew, beef egusi, fried plantains...forgot to take the picture so we already dug in by the time I remembered

We ordered catering of Jollof rice with goat meat, Jollof rice without meat, Plantain, Fufu, and Spinach dish for over 140 people. Tidiane was very professional and hospitable. He let us try samples of the food before we decided on our selections. Our guests had American food options, but everyone couldn't stop talking about the African Food. So many guests said they would be visiting his restaurant soon. If you have a future event, or just a craving for delicious, authentic African food, we highly recommend Palace Food Services. Love, Nneka and Semaj

Food was great, but it took a really long time to be prepared even though there was only one other customer ahead of us. I think we waited about 35 minutes for our food to come out.

    Chicken Stew and Fufu
    Emily C.

I ordered the chicken stew which comes with a side of fufu. The chicken was definitely really fresh, but I didn't expect it to be so sour. Maybe the tomatoes used were extra sour, regardless, the food was still good quality.

I tried this place for lunch with a friend and I loved everything about it. The ambiance and overall vibe was great and I like the music they played. I ordered the fish stew with fufu and she ordered the egusi with fufu. We also ordered a side of plaintains. This was my first time trying West African food. The woman who served our food was extremely nice and taught us how to properly eat the fufu and stew. She was also very good at checking in on us and making sure we were doing okay. There was also a man at the bar and a woman who momentarily checked on us from the back of the restaurant who were very very nice. The food was delicious. The stew was meaty, the fish almost fell off the bone with how tender it was. It was fresh, tasteful, and piping hot. I also tasted some of my friend's egusi and it was amazing. The portions were generous I felt. I had leftovers that I later warmed up for dinner and it still tasted almost as good as when it was fresh. I will definitely be coming here a lot more often when I want to treat myself to some good food.

    Fufu

I like this place. I come often. They're not traditional in terms of food service, as it's more relaxed. I just come in and choose my own seat. There's no host so seat you. The person serving me (idk if it's the owner, but it's always the same guy) usually notices me & I'm helped quickly. He slides me a menu & a cup of water. Then brings food shortly after. Usually a 15 minute wait for my food w check ins periodically. Ambiance is cool. Think hole in the wall African place lol

    egusi soup and Fufu Yam

i placed an order on the phone he said he didn't need my name and would know who i was when i showed up when i arrived i told them what i ordered and he said he gave my food to someone else i then had to wait for my food to be made and it was so bad im not even exaggerating the egusi soup had barely any meat and no spice it was all bones the meat tased bad like it was old, overcooked, and improperly cleaned. the fufu was okay tho. customer service was alright wouldn't recommend save your money.

JOLLOF RICE, PLANTAIN, BEEF STEW (BARELY), SALAD
    Jazzi M.

I'm very disappointed to be writing a unsatisfactory review after my first order. I decided to treat myself to a nice dinner and place an order via Doordash. I ordered the jollof rice combo with plantain and salad and added beef stew and fufu. This order was terrible. The food was cold, the rice was hard, hardly had any stew, didn't receive the fufu, and salad was thrown in the box with the hot food and arrived scattered across the other items. I now have to find dinner after waiting almost 2 hours. I had high hopes for this place and was unfortunately disappointed to say the least.

Got the sultan feast which is family style so we could try more items. With the sultans feast you can only order 1 entree with your meal. Tried a variety of foods. Lots of interesting flavors. They served us a whole small chicken which had great flavor but too many bones. The lamb was tender and sweet. The beef was served with tomatoes and peas and was also tender. The belly dancing was done almost every hour. Enjoyed that the dancer got the audience involved and was very approachable and friendly. The meal is pricey but You basically are paying for a dinner and show which makes it more reasonable.

I have found memories of all the prior Moroccan restaurants I've eaten at in SF and San Jose, and the fun watching the belly dancers that makes it all a festive mood. The service was prompt and attentive but when we asked about the spices used in the carrots appetizer he was unsure of the ingredients, we asked because they were outstanding in flavor. I offered the Sultans Feast meal which gave a large variety of appetizers to include wonderful Lentil Soup, tasty Hummus, carrots and beets are an option depending on the season, and a very unique tasting dish made with filo bread, almonds and eggs called B'Stela Royal that was both rich and light. For the entrees there was a the vegetarian Couscous called OUJDI, and to share also the traditional Moroccan Stew called Tangines, and I wanted the beef stew after having it in Spain as it was delicious, it's called BIDAWI. You must have the Mint Tea, it's a bit sweet here but always refreshing and a taste treat, the meal ends with Baklava and was mouth watering marvelous! Overall a good experience, though I was surprised given the quality of each plate that the peas in the beef stew and couscous seemed like not fresh but canned peas, as they were so squishy and lacked much flavor. All the other meals were tasty, unique and plentiful in serving size. Also a must have is the Honey Sauce and Almonds chicken had an amazing sauce and not to be missed. The chicken was a little overdone and not as moist as expected for a sauce based chicken but still tasty with a bounty of different flavors mixed in and that sauce was addictive , and had some yogurt added ! Casablanca was a fun and satisfying experience and with only one other small group of guests, I hope their business improves as we need unique ethnic cuisine to improve the variety of foods and styles we eat!

Our waitress recommended a combo platter with lamb, chicken, and beef. It also had some lentils, green peas, and salad. We also ordered the gluten free bread, called injera. They had the normal and gluten free options. The serving size was huge, seriously enough to feed like 4 people. The flavors were unlike anything I've tasted before. The meat had such amazing spices. The cool thing is you could also customize how spicy you wanted the food. I'm a mild person, and the spiciness of the food really hit the spot. We met our neighbors at our house and all drove together. We arrived around 6:16pm. We are familiar with the parking situation, there are only a few spaces in front of the restaurant so you're on your own for finding parking. We pulled in the street right before Queen Sheba (17th Street) and parked in the residential neighborhood. It wasn't rush hour so there was plenty of spaces. You can't tell from the outside if they are open and I was afraid that I didn't read their hours and we were making contingent plans if they were closed. At least we know where we can go next time. Thankfully they were open and there was plenty of seating. I had a concern that they may have been packed due to it was the weekend and the dinner hour. We found a nice table in the middle. The only downside of the restaurant were the flies. That was really disturbing. They just kept flying around and I was quite embarrassed to bring them to a fly ridden restaurant. We ordered F. Combo Platter for 4, $70 plus tax and tip. A total steal. The price is comparable of ordering Chinese food which is a great deal. Combo Platter includes- Chicken tibbs (2), awaze beef (5), fish tibbs (12) and Vegetarian combo (24); and Injera (Eathopian bread made of barley and tiff and comes rolled up. And used to eat your food. It could be compared to a burrito or taco, you put the filling in the Injera and eat it with your hands. We used a fork to move the food from the communal platter to our plates since we were sharing) Chicken Tibbs- Tender pieces of chicken breast sautéed in a rich mixture of spiced butter with garlic, ginger and mixed vegetables with a dash of turmeric. My favorite out of all the meats. Not listed, but I belive we also had Doro Wot- tender chicken drum stick, simmered in spiced butter and specially prepared spices and herbs including garlic, ginger, and onion, accompanied by hard boiled egg and our exclusive berbera sauce. Very tasty Aware Beef Tibbs- Lean beef chunks sautéed with tomatoes, bell peppers, and a special blend of garlic, ginger, onions, and other spices. Drizzled with clarified butter (butter Optional) Very good, but not as good as the Chicken. Fish Tibbs-Specially selected far raised catfish, trimmed into bite-sized pieces and sautéed in a blend of garlic, ginger, and herbs paired with an assortment of mixed vegetables, Drizzled with seasoned clarified butter. (Butter Optional). I'm sorry to say that the fish tibbs are not may favorite, I honest didn't really like it and won't be ordering it again. Vegetarian Combo-Misr Kik wot (15-Spicy red lentils cooked slowly and bursting with energy, smothered in a sauce of herbs and spices including ginger, garlic, onions, and Berber-), Kik wot (16-Yellow split peas stewed with our traditional mixture Ethiopian spices, turmeric sauce, garlic, and ginger), gomen (17-healthy spinach and collard greens simmered in our special blend of herbs and spices), cabbage (20-Fresh cabbage sautéed with ginger, ginger, onions, and tomato in a special turmeric sauce), potatoes and carrots (21-Potato and carrots sautéed with garlic, ginger and onion, turmeric sauce) Our meal was delicious and the price was right. My only complaint was the flies. They really need to get that under control.

I ordered the Mini Combo, substituting Lamb, along with cabbage & greens for my veggies. The Lamb Tibs was well cooked (moist) and plentiful, and the sauce was tasty. The two veggie dishes were very good and flavorful. My husband ordered the Vegan combo. He enjoyed all 5 dishes, and felt that unlike some Ethiopian vegs he's had in the past, each dish had its own unique flavor. His least favorite typically is the collard greens, but this time he added a bit of Berbera spice from the shaker on the table, and he loved that one, too. The only slight disappointment for him was the beets and potato dish, which last time was his favorite, but this time seemed a bit on the dry side. But still very delicious. Service was exceptionally pleasant and kind. The food took a while to arrive (about 25-30 minutes). But it's been my experience that Ethiopian food is often a bit slower, so we were prepared to wait. I uploaded photos of a handful of menu pages, since the prices on their website are old. Unfortunately, even their menu is a bit outdated in places, since it had my Mini Combo at $16.50, but the current price turned out to be $17.50. A great experience!

The staff were friendly and were very attentive. Jollof rice - very flavorful and soft. The portions they gave us in general was HUGE. Not sure if the vegetables medley were frozen or fresh but they did not have that watery feel to it. It had the nice crunch. Chicken - the chicken paired well with the rice. I love how it didn't feel greasy, it tasted very clean, and juicy. Just your standard chicken, nothing bad about it. Goat egusi- this was the star of the show. The viral fufu and egusi soup. The fufu itself had a slight bitter taste but it tasted like potatoes (it is yam). Love the texture, it reminds me of the starchy Vietnamese sandwiches with the sausage. The goat in the egusi soup was sooooo tender. As a person who does not like lamb, I can eat goat. I enjoyed the greens and the sauce of the soup. We also ate it with the rice and it was delicious.
