Absolutely amazing!!! I took my 3 granddaughters and we dressed up to get the full Moraccan experience, just for fun. The restuarant is gorgeous with moracan material covering the walls and ceiling. Very authentic. The food was delicious and plentiful. We evenhad some left to take home. They especially loved the soup, chicken, pita bread, mint tea and the filo pastery meat pie. The belly dancer was the phenomenal! Not only was she extreemly talented and engaging, but she invited the kids to dance with her, which made the whole night welcoming and super fun. It was also very resoanable and they made accomodations for the kids. My olderst granddaughter, age 12, said: "This is a 5 star restaurant!" The 7 year old said: "It's a million stars! This place was an amazing authentic Moroccan experience. The service was quick. Super friendly. My family and I ordered the sultan feast. Started with a delicious soup made of lentils followed by a delicious savory sweet appetizer called pastillo. Then we were served family style with all their entrees on the menu. There was enough food to serve all 7 of us comfortably. Then we were served fresh Baklava and mint tea afterwards. It was a delightful experience. The best part of the whole experience was the owner Hisham. He was very friendly when serving us and was super knowledgeable about his culture and food. We could tell he was very passionate about his culture's history and preserving and sharing the knowledge. Whata delightful kind man. Got the sultan feast which is family style so we could try more items. With the sultans feast you can only order 1 entree with your meal. Tried a variety of foods. Lots of interesting flavors. They served us a whole small chicken which had great flavor but too many bones. The lamb was tender and sweet. The beef was served with tomatoes and peas and was also tender. The belly dancing was done almost every hour. Enjoyed that the dancer got the audience involved and was very approachable and friendly. I love the seating and decor of Casablanca, with the big round brass serving tables and muted lighting. I have found memories of all the prior Moroccan restaurants I've eaten at in SF and San Jose, and the fun watching the belly dancers that makes it all a festive mood. The service was prompt and attentive but when we asked about the spices used in the carrots appetizer he was unsure of the ingredients, we asked because they were outstanding in flavor. I offered the Sultans Feast meal which gave a large variety of appetizers to include wonderful Lentil Soup, tasty Hummus, carrots and beets are an option depending on the season, and a very unique tasting dish made with filo bread, almonds and eggs called B'Stela Royal that was both rich and light. For the entrees there was a the vegetarian Couscous called OUJDI, and to share also the traditional Moroccan Stew called Tangines, and I wanted the beef stew after having it in Spain as it was delicious, it's called BIDAWI. You must have the Mint Tea, it's a bit sweet here but always refreshing and a taste treat, the meal ends with Baklava and was mouth watering marvelous! Overall a good experience, though I was surprised given the quality of each plate that the peas in the beef stew and couscous seemed like not fresh but canned peas, as they were so squishy and lacked much flavor. All the other meals were tasty, unique and plentiful in serving size. Also a must have is the Honey Sauce and Almonds chicken had an amazing sauce and not to be missed. The chicken was a little overdone and not as moist as expected for a sauce based chicken but still tasty with a bounty of different flavors mixed in and that sauce was addictive , and had some yogurt added ! I don't like leaving reviews because I'm odfly picky, and we're in a time that everything I dislike is popular. I wnt with my mom and a cousin, we all got the Sultan's Feast, and it was amazing. The beef tagine has peas (love) and tomatoes (yuck). The beef melts. I've never had couscous like they make. It was's dry, it was delicious. The chicken skewer blew my mind. The entertainment, including belly dancing, was exceptional. The cuisine was authentic and delicious, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was lively and vibrant, making it a great place for a party of any size or age. I saw a gentleman celebrating his 90th birthday on one side of the restaurant and a large family with young teenagers on the other. Our friend was visiting from out of town and we've been meaning to try this spot. It's located next to a gas station, flower shop and liquor store with very little parking! Luckily, we made reservations and had an early bird dinner. The vibes transported me to the orients walking into this hidden gem! There's nothing like this in LA and I was shocked to discover this existed in Carmichael of all places. We have a little Moroccan on my sister's side of the family and I've been low key obsessed Arabic music and dancing. Sawako blessed us with a night we won't forget with her moves and energy. We couldn't have been blessed with a better dancer and supplier of good spirits! She danced with the entire restaurant patrons except the shy ones. The music was incredible and they're even played Nancy Ajram's banger hit, YaTabTab! Okay enough about the ambience - it was 10/10. The food was phenomenal! Everything was fresh, flavorful and seasoned to perfection. It was my first time feasting Moroccan styles like this and I would definitely take visitors back wanting a special night out. Bring your own liquor and no cork fee, yay! Our waiters and waitresses were very friendly. Overall I would give this place a 5/5. Because we were early, our food arrived on time but I could see the bigger parties had to wait a little while! Zero complaints and very reasonable pricing on the food and overall experience. I used to live not far from here but never knew it was there, despite my addiction to Yelp! Well I moved away but my mom wanted to get together for dinner and she found Casablanca. I was very excited to try it since I used to go to Moroccan and North African restaurants all the time when I lived in Europe. For first timers, the menu is a bit confusing, so here is how it works. You choose the dinner you want at the top, there are two choices. We both got the first one. It comes with the appetizers listed below, they are not extra. Then you choose which of the dinner items you want: couscous, tajine, etc. Then it comes with tea and dessert. Everything is included, which makes it a really great deal. We also ordered iced mint tea, which was very refreshing. The appetizers were amazing , and very generous portions too. Lentil soup, spiced carrot salad, some of the best hummus anywhere, generous basket of pita bread, AND a sort of flaky filo tart filled with nuts and spices, and topped with cinnamon and powdered sugar, that was like a new take on baklava. All this was a meal for two in and of itself! We couldn't finish them. I ordered the veggie couscous and my mom ordered the chicken cooked with plums tajine. We decided to eat family style so we could both enjoy everything, and enjoy we did. The flavors were spot on. Everything was so good. Then they gave us both a small piece of baklava and warm mint tea for dessert. We didn't end up finishing any one thing between the two of us, and there were enough leftovers for a sizable meal the next day. I highly recommend this restaurant. Casablanca is a hidden gem in Sacramento! I've never had Moroccan food and was excited to try this place out. Dinner is in a set menu, my boyfriend and I ordered the Sultan's feast which was $36 per person. It included appetizers, the entrees, and dessert with mint tea. Everything was super delicious and yummy. My favorite was the couscous and beef stew. One thing to note was that the pastilla was heavily topped with powdered sugar and the honey chicken was a tad too sweet. My palate is pretty sensitive to sweet stuff so at times it was a bit overbearing. The chicken however was delicious once you got past the sweetness! The spices contrasted well with the honey. I think if it was less drenched in the honey sauce I would eat more of it. We made a reservation at 5 but turns out we didn't really needed it, when we came we were the first customers. I wasn't sure how busy this place would be on a Friday night. Service was a little slow at first and unfortunately we weren't provided with a hand cleansing bowl like someone mentioned in a previous review nor did we get to experience watching the belly dancers. I brought my family here pre-pandemic and we enjoyed all the food and belly dancer entertainment. I dropped by with my wife on a weekday to check out how they were before bringing the whole family back here and I'm excited to bring them back, the food is as good as before! We ordered Sultan's Feast which comes with many items and actually confused me on what I was eating but everything was fresh and tasteful. Food came out as we finished each dish. Our favorite dish was the B'stela Royal, a crispy cinnamon filo dough with eggs and almonds. I appreciated the upbeat music and our waiter constantly checking up on us. Our drinks never ran dry. Added honey chicken turned out to be the best of all the dishes. Excellent service. NOT HAVE AGAIN: B'Stella Royal almond dish is very much different from a dozen years ago. It was a Yelp recommendation to our search for healthy food. We had never eaten Moroccan food before so we put ourselves in the hands of the owner. The owner was friendly, gracious and kind. He picked our menu and we were beyond impressed. The food was exceptional. So full of flavor! His wife was the cook. From the outside Casablanca is very unassuming. When you enter it is reminiscent of entering a middle eastern or African tent. The walls and ceiling are covered with cloths in patters representative of Morocco. Low tables with large, metal dish-like table tops. The seating is low benches along the walls and short stools, all done in a stunning red. The colors and contrasts are a feast for the eyes. On this trip two nephews were in charge, one cooking and one out front. Like their uncle they were kind, friendly, informative and helpful. A top ten lifetime dining experience. And the second trip was as wonderful as the first. I took a cousin from this area and she fully agreed that this is a hidden gem. read more

Not bad! I've been eyeing this place for quite awhile and was glad to finally go with a friend. First, the restaurant is MUCH smaller than the photos I had seen implied. It is one small room with bench booths lining the walls and ottomans in the center with maybe 8 small tables. The middle of the room is kept empty for the belly dancer who came out and performed 3 times while we were there. It's very intimate and you are right next to other guests. Not a place for private or confidential conversations. Or, really, any conversations. Lol The music was sooooo loud. We had to yell at each other to be heard. I think maybe someone wasn't monitoring the volume levels in between the performances as it would always get louder when the dancer came, but then it stopped getting turned back down. The food was okay. I don't think I've ever had Moroccan food before, but I have had Mediterranean and food in Egypt and Jordan. Slightly different twists on similar dishes, but my one complaint was that everything provided in the Sultan's Feast was sweetened (except the hummus). There was a savory phylodough meat pie that was smothered in powdered sugar. The mint tea was syrupy sweet. The Moroccan almond coffee was super sweet, too (but very interesting--to drink and chew your coffee! Hm!). There was a vegetable dish that we couldn't fully identify.... I think it was tomatoes... and that was sweet, also. Not my flavor preference, but it might be for others! The vegetarian couscous was the best dish for me. The beef tagine was boring and reminded me of Irish stew with all of the peas. The lentil soup was also good, pureed. It's a wonderful country and in the interim before I make a return trip to the African continent, it's nice to have a place in town that serves Moroccan cuisine. The staff were great, although busy. The carrot dish, bastilla, and tagine were my personal highlights, but like I said, they were all great. To be honest, the bastilla beat out various versions I had in Morocco. I'd gladly go again to this restaurant. It was a great time, and based on the other people in the restaurant, we weren't the only ones that enjoyed our time there. The mint tea was great, reminiscent of how much I drank while in the country. I will say: they do serve it with sugar by default. A few places in Morocco asked if we wanted sugar, but here, they'll give it to you with that sweetness. For those sensitive to sugar or want the mint tea experience without it, I'd be sure to ask first. My companion had a smile on their face the entire night, especially with the belly dancing. Wanted to try out Moroccan cuisine and found out about Casablanca. The website wasn't very informative nor had any information for reservations so we just walked in. We were the first people that evening so we did feel a bit weird looking at the ambience and low lighting and low seating. The staff was not super pleasant and actually gave us the wrong menus so we didn't even know what to order. Finally after getting the correct menus and realizing that they only have 2 pre fixed menu choices, we opted for the Sultans Feast. As the food started to come in, we were amazed to see the variety and deliciousness of each dish. The lentil soup, hummus, filo bread dish and the entrees (couscous with veggies, beef tajine, honey chicken) were all fantastic. The dinner ended with baklava and mint tea. I've been wanting to try Moroccan food for a long time, not just for the food, but for the experience, especially with a group of friends. Sadly, this was not the experience I was looking for. If it hadn't been for the company and the fun birthday celebration on the other side of the room, I'd have left much sooner. The service: One of our friends was hesitant to hang out because she had to pick up her kids about 90 minutes after arriving. The man who welcomed us said no problem, we'll bring your food very quickly. The bread was brought out 30 minutes later with the entrees coming out 80 minutes later, and our friend had to leave without eating with us. When it was time to leave, we still had several plates of unfinished appetizers which were just stacked up and taken away without asking if we wanted boxes for them. It was a tremendous waste of food, especially since the appetizers were really the only decent food we received. The food: We ordered the Royal Dinner @$32.95 each person - I selected the Tajines Lamb with honey sauce and almonds. Sounds tasty, right? What I got was eight small pieces of pot roast that was so dry, even the overly sweet and inedible honey sauce couldn't overcome it. Another friend ordered the lamb and also commented that he got dry pot roast, too. None of our party were impressed with the food. The entertainment: I admit it takes a special person to perform in front of others. I can't dance for shit and have no problem admitting it. That said, I have zero desire to dance in front of others. What most of us didn't want or need was a bellydancer who made uncomfortably long eye contact, or staring in our direction while pushing us to come out and dance with her. Especially after we made it clear we didn't want to do it. When that failed, she made sure to show us the multiple ways we could tip her. I really had higher hopes, but I won't be going back. I came into the restaurant with low expectations because my friend and I were the first ones in there. (That changed shortly after). But the food was insanely good. Like you can tell the chef knew exactly what he was doing. I really highly recommend everyone goes. There's this chicken dish with like a sweet cream/yogurt inside. It was honestly probably one of the best things I've ever tasted. The baklava was insanely good paired with the insanely delicious mint tea. The appetizers were great-- especially the chopped pickled carrots. Oh, and my absolute favorite was the b'Stela Royal. It's a pastry dough that has meat, almonds, I don't know what else, and it was topped with powdered sugar. I don't know how they did it, but it was sensational. I need everybody to go here. My best friend and I are currently driving home from our evening at Casablanca Moroccan restaurant. Sadly, we are racing to get to the Pepto-Bismol and and whatever else we can devour to eliminate the rancid aftertaste of the truly horrific baklava dessert... Formerly my favorite dessert ! I can never enjoy baklava again! Very, unfortunately, this was only the final straw in a Gastronomical nightmare costing a mere 40 bucks or so each. I will admit the place was decorated nicely, the belly dancer was fine, and the pastry served halfway through the meal was absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, it was the only food item given much creative or culinary thought. The rest tasted neither spicy nor fresh, but rather weekold, from a can, or horrifically under spiced. The food needs a complete overhaul, but the atmosphere gets a star of its own. Go there if if you're comfortable with eye contact from bellydancers, but until they change the recipe recipes, we advise you to eat before you go! read more

My first taste of Moroccan food was 20 years ago at Epcot that was so memorable, I immediately started looking for a Moroccan restaurant in the Bay Area upon my return. That resulted in my love affair with Aziza, followed by Mourad and even stopped at Chef Mourad's newest venture Waicoco in Maui last year. When an IG friend posted her Sultan Feast at Casablanca in Sacramento, I immediately bookmarked it for my next visit. I'm not the "Will Travel For Food" Yelper for nothing and yes, this Royal Dinner was worth it. The honey lamb was a bit too sweet and drippy for me but the basteeya and the couscous was perfect. Belly dancing is usually available on Fridays and Saturdays so reservations would be recommended then. Otherwise, weeknights are pretty open. read more

My partner has been raving about this place for the past two years and we finally got to check it out on our way back from Tahoe. It was easy to make a reservation by calling the restaurant. The inside is very cozy and has a very warm feel. They have floor and bench seating around the gold tables. They start you off by having you rinse your hands before the ongoing feast begins! There are two menu options to follow and both will give plenty of food. My favorite fish from their menu is their pastilla!! I made it once before and did not like it, but it made a huge difference actually trying it from a delicious restaurant. My second favorite dish was their carrot appetizer, followed by their dessert. I have been wanting to visit Casablanca since I first moved to Sacramento and I'm so glad I finally had the opportunity. When I first walked in I noticed the restaurant was much smaller than I imagined, but it felt cozy. The tapestries on the walls and the the light fixtures created an enjoyable ambiance. I think I made the right choice coming for the first time on a Thursday night as it wasn't packed. I will say, if you are looking for a quick experience, that is not what you will get at Casablanca. Things moved a little slowly. but you understand why once you try the food. We opted for the Sultan's Feast which came with starters and chef picked dishes ( veggies couscous, beef tajin, and chicken kabab) Starters: lentil soup, salad that hammam (pita, hummus, and a carrot salad I think it was), and b'stela royal - I was unable to enjoy the pita, as I am gluten free, but I tried the carrot salad and it was delicious so, I just ate that with a spoon. - The brought out the b'stela royal next, I mentioned I was gluten free, and they put together a bowl of rice with honey and almonds for me. It was delicious. I would come back just to eat that rice honestly. I didn't try the couscous, but the Beef Tajin and Chicken Kabab were fantastic! The beef was so tender. The food had the kind of simplistic vibe that only comes with dishes that have been lovingly crafted. Like going to someone's home and eating something that's been passed down from their great grandma. And I will say that is the aura of Casablanca. I only saw a couple of people working, and with the slower pace, you just knew whatever they came out with next was going to be mouth watering. I didn't feel like I was at a restaurant that was hustling to get out dishes, I felt like I was enjoying a home cooked meal. A few honorable mentions: They wash your hands before the meal which I thought was neat, the mint tea is insanely good. I would buy the tea by the jug if I could. They also did a cute moment for someone's birthday. All in all, what Casablanca lacks in parking, they make up for with their dishes. I can't wait to come back and try the other tajins. I first heard about this place when the owners daughter posted about them during pandemic. I am so glad I was finally able to go in and support this beautiful families business. I ordered 2 combo entrees and some ala carte items tonight on Uber Eats and they all took my money and I don't know who got the entrees but all I got delivered were the three appetizers and some mint ice tea. No one even bothers to check the order. They just grab some trash threw it in a bag and when I complained Uber Eats says they can't do anything because they're too fat and lazy to care and no one involved has a reputation to defend.
