    Chicken egusi and fufu
    Kourtney W.

Kept wanting to try fufu and egusi and happened to be in the area so I placed an order .. the place is a ghost kitchen like setting. You order and wait for it to take togo only. The fufu was delicious .. texture is like rice and mash potatoes .. the egusi was good but a little bland and I wish it was a bit spicier. Overall I did like it!

I have been craving traditional Nigerian Food in Sacramento but could not find a restaurant that had the same flavor I get when I eat it Nigerian Food in the Bay Area. I finally found absolutely delicious Nigerian Food in Sacramento! Everything was seasoned perfectly and good portion sizes. Prices are reasonable as well. Ms. Adeola and her team are so nice and offer friendly welcoming service. It's best to text your order ahead of time to ensure your order is hot and ready when you arrive. The pepper soup needs time to be prepared fresh so if you desire that dish please give them a heads up before you arrive. They prepare everything in a clean industrial kitchen connected to a Church. You can park in the back of the church for order pick ups. Cash, Cash App, or Zelle is accepted. If you're looking for delicious Naija Food, give them a try!

The food was just...mid. Not sure why the reviews are so high. The lady is nice but the food was not. This place was hard to find. It's behind a big church. I believe she uses the kitchen so your pick up orders are done in the alley. The food wasn't fresh and the flavors were very mild. She scoops them for you when you order and pick up. The areas that were disappointing was the goat and egusi. It only came with two small pieces and very dry. The chicken and jollof rice were okay but the rice tasted like it was just cooked in tomato juice. Overall, the food was just okay and very overpriced. $100 for 3 containers of food. Sorry to say, I will not be returning.

Egusi soup with chicken, fufu, and almost finished samosa

Delicious, delicious, delicious! This place is a hole in a wall that's in an alleyway behind the church. We ordered for pickup and didn't notice any place to sit down, so just be aware when you get your food. We easily placed the order over the phone and then headed over to pick it up. We ordered the egusi soup with chicken, 2 fufu, and 1 samosa. The egusi soup was so flavorful with all the different spices and it was just an explosion of flavor when it hits your mouth with the fufu. The fufu was very filling too as my wife and I had our own fufu and shared the soup and we were both so full after eating it all. I also had a samosa (which I only show the last bite in my photo), but it was small compared to what I was expecting. I don't think I'd get the samosa again, but everything else I will definitely eat again. My mouth is watering thinking about the food while writing this! I'd recommend to also bring cash if you're able! Support this local business.

I'm very glad I found Naija Cuisine. Very humble business and location, food made with a lot of love. I ordered egusi soup with chicken, fufu, plantain side and jollof side. It was ready in about 20 minutes. Adeola was very sweet and packed up my order right away when I arrived and gave my name. The kitchen is attached to a church in downtown Sacramento. I parked in the alley and went in a side door. There is a small sign pointing you to the right place. It smelled amazing and I was excited to take it home and try. The soup was delicious and fufu had perfect texture. I had egusi soup at a different business (Liberian restaurant) and I wasn't a fan, and I'm glad I gave it another try. I realize everyone has their own versions so I think I prefer Nigerian egusi soup more from Naija Cuisine. The chicken fell off the bone and had great flavor. The jollof rice was delicious but I wish it was even more spicy/seasoned. Plantains were great. Very happy and will be back!

Recommend the Beef Egussi and Jollof Rice! Tried the fufu to try but not my preference to eat the egussi with, fun to try though!

Tucked away in the back of a church is Naija. You'll see signs on 27th street and the alley right before L street. The chef is super kind and gives samples of what's cooking. I have to preface my review with the fact that I've had home cooked Nigerian food and was super excited to see Naija is downtown close to Sutter. I ordered a few different dishes: plaintan, jollof rice, egusi, and fufu. The flavors didn't hit for me but there was a steady stream of customers picking up their orders. I was expecting more rich, stewed and spicier flavors. The jollof rice seemed to be made with parboiled rice and the meat all seemed to be boiled then covered with the red sauce instead of being cooked or stewed together. The fufu was hot and fresh. I didn't care for the egusi because it had an ingredient that I couldn't figure out but took away from the spinach/greens flavor. I prefer more homemade and slow cooked flavors but with all the 5 star reviews definitely check it out for yourself.

Sign on 27th St pointing to alleyway where the entrance is.

This place is a hidden gem tucked in an alley behind a church. I was met by the owner and we had a chat about the menu. When I informed her it was my first time trying Nigerian food, she let me taste everything she had cooking on the stove and helped me pick what to order! I sat and waited while she cooked and packed up my food. My fufu and egusi with beef and beef skin came out to $27. It was delicious! Unmatched service and food, will definitely be coming back regularly. Cash, cashapp, or Zelle only. Takeout only.

Delicious Food and Excellent Service,I really enjoyed my lunch today.I will definitely be back again.

Adeola! Thank you. I was able to text her my orders, and it was ready for pick-up. I got the okra with chicken and egusi with beef and skin + fufu, so amazingly delicious. Sacramento is blessed to have a Nigerian restaurant, truly authentic Nigerian food. If there were more stars to give, it'll definitely exceed a 5-star rating. If you have not tried Nigerian food, you must try it. I would encourage you to watch one of the Muk Bang videos online first for steps and techniques on how to eat them.

It was my 1 year anniversary with my boyfriend on January 14th and I was craving some fufu and soup so bad and the closest, authentic, nigerian food I could find was in Sac. We had no idea what to expect but when we walked in we saw (I am assuming her name is Naija) her in the kitchen cooking. We thought it was a restaurant on the way there and my boyfriend had never tried it so we were super excited, we found out it wasn't a restaurant when we got there, but she cooked everything so FAST! She even let us try the soup before we purchased anything so we knew how spicy it was and if we really liked the taste. We also drove an hour and something to get to her spot and we were very thankful for her and her food! I will be coming back soon to get sone more fufu and maybe try a meal with plantains! Thank you so much for an unforgettable anniversary dinner!

Woman that served us was very helpful and kind, and the food was absolutely amazing. 10/10 would try again. The rice, fufu, and egusi was extremely delicious.

Our waitress recommended a combo platter with lamb, chicken, and beef. It also had some lentils, green peas, and salad. We also ordered the gluten free bread, called injera. They had the normal and gluten free options. The serving size was huge, seriously enough to feed like 4 people. The flavors were unlike anything I've tasted before. The meat had such amazing spices. The cool thing is you could also customize how spicy you wanted the food. I'm a mild person, and the spiciness of the food really hit the spot. We met our neighbors at our house and all drove together. We arrived around 6:16pm. We are familiar with the parking situation, there are only a few spaces in front of the restaurant so you're on your own for finding parking. We pulled in the street right before Queen Sheba (17th Street) and parked in the residential neighborhood. It wasn't rush hour so there was plenty of spaces. You can't tell from the outside if they are open and I was afraid that I didn't read their hours and we were making contingent plans if they were closed. At least we know where we can go next time. Thankfully they were open and there was plenty of seating. I had a concern that they may have been packed due to it was the weekend and the dinner hour. We found a nice table in the middle. The only downside of the restaurant were the flies. That was really disturbing. They just kept flying around and I was quite embarrassed to bring them to a fly ridden restaurant. We ordered F. Combo Platter for 4, $70 plus tax and tip. A total steal. The price is comparable of ordering Chinese food which is a great deal. Combo Platter includes- Chicken tibbs (2), awaze beef (5), fish tibbs (12) and Vegetarian combo (24); and Injera (Eathopian bread made of barley and tiff and comes rolled up. And used to eat your food. It could be compared to a burrito or taco, you put the filling in the Injera and eat it with your hands. We used a fork to move the food from the communal platter to our plates since we were sharing) Chicken Tibbs- Tender pieces of chicken breast sautéed in a rich mixture of spiced butter with garlic, ginger and mixed vegetables with a dash of turmeric. My favorite out of all the meats. Not listed, but I belive we also had Doro Wot- tender chicken drum stick, simmered in spiced butter and specially prepared spices and herbs including garlic, ginger, and onion, accompanied by hard boiled egg and our exclusive berbera sauce. Very tasty Aware Beef Tibbs- Lean beef chunks sautéed with tomatoes, bell peppers, and a special blend of garlic, ginger, onions, and other spices. Drizzled with clarified butter (butter Optional) Very good, but not as good as the Chicken. Fish Tibbs-Specially selected far raised catfish, trimmed into bite-sized pieces and sautéed in a blend of garlic, ginger, and herbs paired with an assortment of mixed vegetables, Drizzled with seasoned clarified butter. (Butter Optional). I'm sorry to say that the fish tibbs are not may favorite, I honest didn't really like it and won't be ordering it again. Vegetarian Combo-Misr Kik wot (15-Spicy red lentils cooked slowly and bursting with energy, smothered in a sauce of herbs and spices including ginger, garlic, onions, and Berber-), Kik wot (16-Yellow split peas stewed with our traditional mixture Ethiopian spices, turmeric sauce, garlic, and ginger), gomen (17-healthy spinach and collard greens simmered in our special blend of herbs and spices), cabbage (20-Fresh cabbage sautéed with ginger, ginger, onions, and tomato in a special turmeric sauce), potatoes and carrots (21-Potato and carrots sautéed with garlic, ginger and onion, turmeric sauce) Our meal was delicious and the price was right. My only complaint was the flies. They really need to get that under control.

I discovered they had moved to a permanent location in Roseville, so I was anxious to try them (again). It's definitely the same restaurant, as Samerwit (perhaps the owner) was our waitress. I ordered the Mini Combo, substituting Lamb, along with cabbage & greens for my veggies. The Lamb Tibs was well cooked (moist) and plentiful, and the sauce was tasty. The two veggie dishes were very good and flavorful. My husband ordered the Vegan combo. He enjoyed all 5 dishes, and felt that unlike some Ethiopian vegs he's had in the past, each dish had its own unique flavor. His least favorite typically is the collard greens, but this time he added a bit of Berbera spice from the shaker on the table, and he loved that one, too. The only slight disappointment for him was the beets and potato dish, which last time was his favorite, but this time seemed a bit on the dry side. But still very delicious. Service was exceptionally pleasant and kind. The food took a while to arrive (about 25-30 minutes). But it's been my experience that Ethiopian food is often a bit slower, so we were prepared to wait. I uploaded photos of a handful of menu pages, since the prices on their website are old. Unfortunately, even their menu is a bit outdated in places, since it had my Mini Combo at $16.50, but the current price turned out to be $17.50. A great experience!

I love how it didn't feel greasy, it tasted very clean, and juicy. Just your standard chicken, nothing bad about it. Goat egusi- this was the star of the show. The viral fufu and egusi soup. The fufu itself had a slight bitter taste but it tasted like potatoes (it is yam). Love the texture, it reminds me of the starchy Vietnamese sandwiches with the sausage. The goat in the egusi soup was sooooo tender. As a person who does not like lamb, I can eat goat. I enjoyed the greens and the sauce of the soup. We also ate it with the rice and it was delicious.
