A reservation is a promise on both sides. I promise to pick up the car and they promise to have it available. When I called the corporate line (and after I got past the AI and waited 20 minutes), the response I got was effectively 'yeah, that happens.' No attempt to make it right - just a verbal shrug. Five hours later the Kirkland location called me to let me know they finally had a car. At that point, I'd already moved on and made other plans. This is the second time this has happened to me at this Hertz. I'll be avoiding this location and Hertz in general after this.

The sales tactics included a room filled with framed photos of crashed exotic cars--intended to scare customers into buying add-ons like wheel protection, gap coverage, and "loss of use" fees. I declined all and recommend checking with your own insurance or credit card provider, as many already provide coverage. Both cars I rented had mechanical issues and cleanliness problems. One had a malfunctioning convertible top and non-working side mirrors; the other came with leftover food in the cabin. The only thing that could've been improved upon is if they called me ahead of time to ask if I needed a ride to the location.

I had been going in almost daily to make payments, and as of yesterday, I was told in person that I was fully caught up. Later, I found out they had been applying my security deposit toward my payments without clearly explaining that to me. From my understanding, a deposit is supposed to cover potential damages or issues--not be used like that--so that immediately felt off. This morning, I called to extend my rental and was told there was an error on their end and that I should come in. When I arrived, things took a turn for the worse. They asked for my key tag and then took the key fob without properly explaining what was going on. I was told to remove all my belongings from the car and informed they couldn't accept any more payments because I had supposedly been issued a "demand to return" notice--something I had never been told about before, either over the phone or during any of my prior visits. To make matters worse, on my way home, I was still charged on my card, and they kept my security deposit. I wasn't even given the opportunity to refuel the car, clean it, or properly gather my belongings before they took the vehicle back. I had no intention of returning the car--I was trying to extend the rental--so the entire situation felt abrupt and mishandled. Afterward, I contacted customer service and was told that security deposits generally shouldn't be used the way mine was, which only added to my concern. Overall, this experience felt very unfair and disorganized. I would strongly recommend that this location improve communication and transparency with customers to avoid situations like this.
