Palama market is a small Korean grocer that has a bit of everything. It's not as big as the one in Kakaako, but it's closer to where I live and I don't need to park inside a structure that makes it slightly easier (although the park can be just as busy and as tight). I've been here many times, and there are a few items I come here for - sliced beef for shabu, their kimchi, their banchan like mushroom and tripe are delicious. I also like their snacks as well, also the instant noodles. Parking can be a little crazy as the lot is tight and many cars come in and out, but there's also upstairs parking up the ramp if you really need it. On the left side of the parking lot is a locksmith / key guy. He can copy any key you need, even if it's the bigger key that Home Depot can't work on. Also, there's a little food court inside. Don't forget to order some fried chicken at Von's too, and check out the other food stalls as well! For these many reasons, I like to go to Palama market 2-3 times a month. read more

I bought the prepared meat jun for takeout dinner. This was a shock to me with this container. I got a film of the plastic wrap to elavate the 2 portions so it looked full on that plate. I don't know why this happened on this plate as I've purchased for multiple times previously this grab and go always with cabbage to eat. That was part of the plate with reheating and the sauce poured on top to make it a meal. Please explain as this cost cutting measure is extreme for a customer. read more

Annyeonghaseyo。One of my favorite supermarket to go to! They have a wide variety of snacks, ready to eat food, ready to cook meat, lots of ramen selections, of course, their banchan dishes! I love both Palama supermarket in Makaloa and the one on N King Street. Makaloa is closer but the parking is horrible. The cashiers are normally friendly specially the ajummas! Palama supermarket is the place to get your kimchi's! They have also really yummy marinated kalbi and spicy pork that I love to grab and cook for dinner! This is also where I get my rice cake and rainbow cake! Sooo mochilicious!!! The store also has restaurants such as the Palama restaurant for your soon dobu chigae, Korean fried chicken and their Korean desserts. A huge benefit of living in the Ala Moana area is that we're within "walking distance" of two of our favorite Korean supermarkets. I'll have to fend for myself while my wife is out of town, so today I bought some convenient, but tasty, foods from Palama Supermarket. I picked up four kinds of banchan: cooked potatoes (gamja jorim), fresh kimchi, cucumber kimchi, and something I never tried before, king oyster mushroom jeon. I also bought a 12-pack box of CJ brand of cooked white rice. I love kimchi and gamja jorim, and Palama's didn't disappoint. The colors of the kimchi were vibrant and tasted just right. The potatoes were delicious. The battered pieces of mushroom were thinly sliced and crunchy, and the jeon went well with the provided sauce; however, the container wasn't as full as it initially appeared to be, the jeon lying on a mound of shredded cabbage. (This will help fill my daily quota of raw vegetables.) CJ's microwavable rice always comes to the rescue when time is short. The quality of the cooked rice is superior to what I've been served at many local eating establishments. These are just a sample of items available at Palama. We shop there frequently, it's just that the mix is different when shopping for one. read more

I love browsing through Palama to see if they've got new snacks and goodies to try! I highly recommend trying their rice cake options. I thought the pink and white mochi balls looked interesting so I decided to give it a try. These little balls are filled with a watery,honey liquid and sesame seeds! It's a burst of sweetness! My grandma and I love snacking on these while we watch tv. We decided to try the mung bean rice cake. I didn't care for the injulmi powder on it but my grandma really enjoyed it because it wasn't too sweet. I will definitely be trying their other options! read more

We've been coming to Palama Supermarket for years! My husband used to love the spicy pork plate lunch in the food court area. He still does I guess but the portion to price ratio has been a little unfavorable, like everything else these days. They have a wide variety of Korean goodies including instant noodles, teas, sauces, snacks, and frozen goods like mandoo and tteokbokki, seasoned meats and side dishes, and soju and desserts. They also have household goods, some tech, some skincare, and some health supplements. Inside is brightly lit and neatly organized. Staff are generally polite. Today I went in search of seasoned spicy canned tuna that I used to eat all the time years ago. But there were none! :( Only had plain tuna. Meh. Ended up buy too much of other things instead haha! Left with instant porridge and instant rices to try, some dipping sauces I saw on Instagram, seasoned seaweed, and kimbap and marinated chicken to cook for dinner. The kimbaps are good, esp the bibimbap one. The spicy anchovy roll is delicious as well. The chicken was a big portion but it's sold by weight. read more

Palama Supermarket is located pretty conveniently off kalakaua Ave near Don quijote. The parking lot can fill up during peak shopping times, and it's already a bit tight, so I'd recommend trying to come either very early in the day or when they're about to close. Palama is the original H mart in my mind. It has a good selection of Korean produce, banchan, meats and packaged foods. There's even a little food court where you can get Korean fried chicken, poke and Korean food. On the palama supermarket side of the store (not the food court), they have containers of Korean food for sale like kimbap, soups and different juns. The prepared food goes on sale later in the day when they want to get rid of it. The cashiers are sometimes nice. Sometimes they aren't. It's ok though, I don't really come here for the service anyway. Compared to H mart, this palama supermarket is a lot smaller and is limited on what they have. Prices are pretty much the same I think, except hmart seems to have more selection of sale items every week or whatever Palama is closer and more convenient for me to visit, but I sometimes prefer other grocery stores for the wider selection of items. read more

Visited Palama Supermarket today.....they have a wonderful selection of meat. Picked up Kimchi and a bag of Wild Mountain Leaves ( don't know how to use it) can't be that hard. Several ladies were buying it and I took up the challenge. Also bought some hot sauce. Check put was fast and easy, the cashier was friendly and kind. Typical supermarket atmosphere with lots of different Korean goodies....will definitely be back to pick up meat from their vast selection. read more

Asian stores are one of the best! And I am lucky enough to have few in my neighborhood. But even though, I rarely come visit Palama Supermarket and every time I did pilgrimage here, it's always fun and exciting. For my K-cravings this store is my go to. Not lots of option but they got pretty good selection. From noodles to produce and bento meals, there is always something for you. Costumer service ain't the best though. And most of the time when I'm dealing with them they got this plain poker face. It feels like stiffness and cold towards you. But I don't care that much as long as they were able to help my queries. Parking situation is so tight and always in chaos. You gotta be quick and alert as possible. Who doesn't love well prepared takeout? Palama Market has a very nice selection of pre-made and packaged Korean dishes such as Kimbap, japchae, gimmari, kimchi! This is one of the reasons I enjoy shopping here. They also have my favorite almond snack which are yummy matcha green tea coated almonds. It's like a burst of matcha latte in every bite! Palama is home to a Von's Korean Fried Chicken stand and a few other food eateries and a small area with tables for sit down eating from these vendors. They have a nice selection of produce, cuts of meat, and packaged foods imported from Korea. Conveniently located on Makaloa Street, just off Kalakaua Avenue, the location makes it easy for locals as well as visitors. Lots of parking tho always full has lots of activity. There is always someone going out. Parking lot is shared with a handful of other businesses such as a hair shoppe and a FedEx site. This is our OG go-to spot for getting all things Korean (since H Mart is now in town). There's usually plenty of parking in the lot. We usually go here to pick up meat and banchan for homemade KBBQ. Meats are pretty fresh. Banchan used to be self-serve, but since covid - it's all pre-boxed. I don't really like the pre-boxed because it usually comes with way more than we need for our tiny household and I hate wasting food. Prices are decent. COVID-era review I am here so often that I guess I never thought to write a review. This place is the less flashy, OG location of Palama Market and so super reliable. They've got everything you could need to make an amazing Korean meal. Get there before lunchtime for the best selection of ready-made foods. Choose from the complete meal bento, trays of cooked zucchini and meat jun, and kimbab rolls with a variety of veggie and/or meat fillings. I haven't been able to figure out what time has the best selection of prepared foods but have sometimes still found good stuff at dinnertime. Sadly, the pandemic has shut down their buffet of by-the-pound banchan but they've pivoted and now pre-pack their sides in containers displayed in vertical and horizontal refrigerators. Though the novelty of picking up tongs and packing your own is gone, I have to admit that I kinda love that it's all hermetically sealed now. I actually think that makes me buy even more. Does anyone come home with just one kind of banchan? Palama market makaloa is located near kaheka don quiote. I usually shop at the one in kalihi, but since we were in the area, decided to pick up food and shop at this store. They have von's chicken as well as a sushi shop. We ordered the spicy pork, meat jun and BBQ chicken for dinner take out, which are about 3 stars - average, nothing fancy but reasonable. They also have tables socially spaced for indoor dining. They also sell turtle chips for those hunting/craving for it and can't find it anywhere else. We were craving Korean Bento and were close to Palama market. We were able to park in front, which is nice. Headed straight to the bento section and was surprised to see so many different selections. Choosing was hard but we decided on a regular size BBQ Spicy Chicken bento ($9.50) and a mini Bulgogi bento ($7). The BBQ chicken bento came with rice and really tasty banchan. Lotus root, pickled vegetables, kamaboko, fish cake and Korean boiled peanuts. The Beef Bulgogi mini came with rice, cabbage(on the bottom) and Takuan. BBQ chicken was really good. Not as hot as the spicy pork but still really good spicy heat. Lotus root, pickled veggies were nice and crunchy with good flavor. Fish cake was nice and fishy. The boiled peanuts were awesome. Loved 'em. Beef Bulgogi was so tender and well seasoned. Not too much salt either. The cabbage on the bottom is a bonus. Takuan is Japanese but works well with bulgogi. I don't know if they changed the brand of rice they were using but It wasn't the high quality they normally serve. Maybe a suppy chain issue, so I won't take a star away. All in all, great bento at a great price. Next time we're trying the Japchae. read more

An update is definitely needed for Palama Supermarket because Palama updated! Palama has undergone a small, but much needed renovation of its frozen and raw meat sections. It eliminated the tall display case and replaced it with a short, chest style freezer, which really opened up the whole store and easy on the eyes. It also made the meat counter clearly visible. Now all the aisles are clean, neat, and organized. There's more products offered than before, even that Boba Ice Cream bars that seems to be the current craze. The meat section was prepped and filled with many cuts of meat ready for your yakiniku night or hotpot. The prepared foods section is slightly more expanded and offering a few more items as well. The only thing that didn't really change is the produce section as it still offers a limited variety, but there are more sale items and great deals than before and everything looks more fresh. Overall, I have officially changed my preference to Palama from 88! Now 88 has become dated (including the produce!) with less and less deals. The staff here are friendly and pleasant. Great variety of products. I just wish the produce section can expand a little to offer more variety. The parking is still tight though. Patience is definitely needed. Another positive is the new shopping carts that have amazing maneuverability! Masks required, staff wears masks and gloves, social distancing enforced, stickers on the floor, hand sanitizer provided. Grocery shopping in Honolulu, Hawaii... My Lisa-boo told me exactly how to get those new, elusive Boba Milk Tea ice cream bars on a stick... I went to Palama Market at 8am and got free, easy parking. There were some ladies standing around the freezer, so I walked over... There they were! Boxes of Boba Milk Tea ice cream (limit one per person)! OMG! This was too easy! I had to browse around, take some pictures, and get kimbap! My sister often gets these Korean sushi for parties. They're convenient, tasty finger food! I also saw Honey Butter Almonds - my friend and I bought some in Korea where it's a popular snack! There were fresh produce, a meat/fish department, lots of canned good, ready-to-cook noodles, etc. I was tempted by the face masks at the cashier's station... hmmm... i think I have enough! I'll come back again at 8am if I need anything else! Shopping was a breeze! P.S. There are four Boba Milk Tea ice cream bars in a box. I gave 3 to my sister who lives about 5 minutes away. I ate my ice cream with 2 lactaid pills. So far, so good! LOL! The ice cream was smooth and yummy! The boba were soft and slightly chewy! Very good, Lisa-boo! I always love Palama market because of their wide range of cheap vegetables (their enoki prices are unbeatable lol) and Korean products. My family always loves getting the ready-to-eat hot foods like the kimbap, japchae, and fish/meat jun. The workers here used to be really rude when they found out we weren't Korean, but the past few years has been much better customer service! Parking is always tough here, so we always come after our shopping at Don Quijote cause the parking is much better there. read more

Parking here can be a really big problem and there is a parking guy to assist so I say it's best to come with a driver. I havent come to Palama supermarket I'm ages buy was looking for banchan veggies and marinated Korean meat. Due to covid, all the banchan was all prepacked in containers, which was ok. The bentos are very plentiful and decisions are difficult to make because they all look good. Their produce selection is very limited to basic things. The meat dept where I wanted to grab my marinated meat, and (i didn't need much because I'm trying to make something I've never made before), the staff back there are jabbering away and could give a rip about the customers. I was upset when I asked for my marinated meat that she didn't atleast try and soak up some sauce or mix the meat from under neath before grabbing and putting it in my box. With this being said, I felt the service really sucked. There are other korean super markets around the city that I will have to visit. read more

Palama Supermarket is a great Korean store with a gf pod selection of Korean foods and some kitchen supplies. This location is one of two stores in Honolulu. The other on King St by Kohea intersection. I highly recommend either market. This one is a block away from the large Don Quijote Japanese/ Asian market. Got the Kalbi Tang, boiled short rib soup-- it was almost all big blobs of fat and 3 kalbi bones with no meat and just some gristle. The broth had 2 pieces of Korean radish and a few pieces of green onion and no flavor. This is after several weeks of getting this hot soup in the ready to eat section near the meat counter. It is disappointing to have to now find another source for this tasty soup or to go back to making it myself in the Instant Pot which I plan on doing. Palama sometimes has tasty ready to eat, but after this terrible bowl of soup for $8.95 I will be looking elsewhere. Readers, let me know where to go. Korean food is one of our favorites but the price is going sky high for protein but I would rather have good quality and pay more than to have a lower price for blobs of fat that should have been discarded. I find this practice and the one talked about earlier on replacing food expiration labels on the ready to eat kimbaps very concerning. I can put up with the angry ajummas but old food and blobs of fat in soup is disgusting. read more

Bought Tteokbokki with Pork bento today, June 3rd, 2024. That's the worst taste of Tteokbokki Bento I have ever bought from Keeaumoku Palama!! YIKES! I could not eat more than 2 rice cake pieces and threw the rest. It's tasteless like someone made the sauce by mixing only the Gochujang, Gochugaru & water, ... missing garlic, soy sauce, brown sugar, Yondu/umami flavoring sauce taste and whatnot. I buy tteokbokki bento often from Palama before and they are tasty enough with presence of slices of onion, sometimes. read more
