Went to grab a bite while we were killing time in Grangeville. LOVE the Palenques in Kamiah. This Grangeville location has consistently been horrible though. The last time my dad came, he had just gotten off a 24hr shift fighting a fire in the area and was starving. He sat and waited for over 45 minutes to have his order taken before leaving. We went to go in 5 past 11, all lights were on, the sign on the door said they opened at 11, it was locked. We tried calling to see if they were open, no answer. Multiple cars in the parking lot. Most likely their dealings out the back door keep them in business.. it most definitely isn't their customer service.. read more

They saturate your food in nasty oil, the blandest rice, and beans ever. It's sad to say taco Johns is better. This is the second time I've eaten here and won't be back. Over $60 for nasty garbage. Excellent margarita!! I was surprised to find such a good one here in such a small town! The food is excellent too- altho Im a guac snob and it was a bit too blended for my taste. Other reviewers have commented on use of microwave, I agree, based on my experience. The plate was VERY HOT, but the food was barely warm - a microwave oven giveaway. The "reheated" food was a little warmer, the plate was MUCH HOTTER! The person serving did not offer any apology, and she seemed to be annoyed that I requested re-heating. On a final note - the food was poor, tasteless. The rice was crunchy., that often happens with a microwave... a trend is forming here! Maybe if you drink a ton of margaritas it goes better, but otherwise it was a very poor experience. One star because I am not able to give zero! read more

Great staff, good food. Arrived 20 minutes before closing. Received drink order, chips and salsa within a few minutes of sitting down. It was busy as this was the only place open to eat after 7 pm on a Sunday. Food arrived in a timely manner and with a smile, though they were trying to close. Wait staff very friendly. read more

The food was not the worst but not the best either. That's the only reason they get one star. The young man who greeted us acted as though he hates his job, and life in general for that matter. Any time I asked him something it seemed as though it was burdensome to him. The first table we sat at was wobbly, you couldn't even sit at it. So we asked to be moved. He seemed upset because that meant he had to wipe down another table. He seemed annoyed that I asked for sliced limes with my coke. A lady took our order and she was nice enough. Then the food came. We didn't have enough silverware so I asked for more. No problem. She never returned to check on us at all! The man from the kitchen noticed we needed a refill when he was bringing food, the waitress could have cared less. We waited quite some time and I ended up going to the kitchen myself to ask for more tortillas, boxes and desert. We ordered fried ice cream and didn't like it. The crust was soft and soggy. Only the man with the beard who refilled the soda and took my order when I went to the kitchen seemed he even cared they had customers. I still left a tip because I'm not an a**hole and I will never come here again nor recommend it. read more

I was surprised that I got a decent Mexican meal here in the middle of no where. I got a chicken dish that was tasty, but a bit lacking in spice. I also got a taco salad that was plain, except for the bowl. It was very fresh, crispy, and very good tasting. I would recommend trying this place, as I imagine Grangeville doesn't have much else to offer. Get the Taco salad but maybe try it with chicken instead of beef. It may be noteworthy that there was quite the crowd of locals enjoying this restaurant when I arrived on a Sunday. read more

Tough crowd to please, these reviewers on here of Palenque Mexican Restaurant in Grangeville Idaho. This place is my #1 eatery in Grangeville. Pleasant wait staff and super-good eats for Mexican food in Idaho. Try the Burritos Palenque. That meal and #7 lunch con pollo are the bomb. I've traveled and eaten in Mexico for twenty years now and I applaud Palenque's meal authenticity. Keep it up! read more

We go to Palenque frequently, being locals. I enjoy the shrimp and vegetarian dishes. Most shrimp dishes consist of tail-on shrimp which is frustrating to remove tails in a saucy dish! I finally found one shrimp dish that does not include tails... my favorite Saturday night special dish!! I do not like the seasoned ground beef as it is that commericial stuff, not fresh seasoned ground beef. They are not big on checking back on further needs or offering dessert. read more

We were passing through Grangeville heading to Dworshak Dam. I can say the only two things that were great at the restaurant were the service and cold beer! First, chips were semi-stale. They couldn't get that right? Come on. The salsa tasted like they used a little too much tomato sauce, and seemed awfully runny. My cheese enchiladas were ok and nothing special. The cheese wasn't melted all the way through even though the plate was hot. It was about what I would have expected. My friend's chicken was obviously boiled, then added to a specialty dish. The chicken hadn't simmered in the spices, and we could tell. It's the only game in town on the prairie, but for this visitor, it was apparent that short cuts have been taken. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. The food is terrible. And they are liars. Both my husband and myself asked for a margarita, we received our margarita and it definitely did not taste like it contained ANY alcohol. I specifically asked the waitress if there was any tequila in the margaritas. She said yes, that it was in the mixer, and hurried away. I checked with the Idaho State Police alcohol licenses and they do NOT have any liquor license. We requested to see the mixer bottle and asked the under age kid working to show us the bottle (who then carried the bottle of mixer to the table which contained a very small amount of alcohol) said there was no tequila added. This place is a JOKE. Do NOT come here. We notified ATF of the situation as well as the BBB. read more

THE WORST Mexican food experience by far. Every thing was microwaved. You could constantly hear the microwave door slamming and opening the entire time. My girlfriend's taco's were served with some horrendous tasting sauce and super nasty, rubbery chicken cubes. She literally couldn't even take a second bite. Who serves tacos laying down with sauce poured over them?! My "mole" enchiladas tasted like someone melted a hersheys bar for the sauce. And they advertise "authentic" margaritas on their sign but only have premixed, bottled margaritas. Disgusting food. Avoid. Trust me. read more

The food here is marginally acceptable; the quantity is generally good. Service varies from decent to poor. I grew up eating authentic Mexican food all along the southern U.S. border and have lived and traveled all through the U.S., Central & South America so I believe I have a pretty good grasp of what "good" Mexican food tastes like. Meh... do not eat here. I know it's Grangeville but please..the service was minimal and the food was canned and unseasoned. My lunch plate was under portioned and unseasoned. Been here twice. Both times the food is good, but like others have stated needs more seasoning. Salsa is thin and blah. Service is lacking. We only saw the waitress when we ordered, when the food came out, and to deliver the ticket. Never checked for refills, and my sister had to go to the counter to get more water. read more
