Ribs were really good, as were the Peach baked beans. The owners wife, also the server and bartender when it's early, was very nice. She warned us that some found the beans too spicy, but I thought they had great flavor and very little heat. She did not warn us that the coleslaw was made differently because their supplier could not provide their standard dressing, so huge disappointment. The menu is limited, but the biggest miss, in my opinion, is you can only buy brisket or pulled pork in full pound amounts. Now, if it is great brisket, I'd dot it, but you cannot get a sample or buy a "1/4 pound" side with a meal. They do not offer a mixed plate where you could get ribs, pork and brisket, which I like to do so we can taste them all. So, what we ate was good, the ambience is okay, but compared to other BBQ restaurants, it misses the mark in customer options. If all you're looking for is a Sammy or some ribs, good choice. I stumbled upon this spot on my drive from Wallace to Donnelly. WOW. What a hidden gem! I stopped in around 4:30 and for the exception of two old guys at the bar, the place was empty. I ordered four ribs, mac and cheese, and coleslaw. Service was super quick and the woman helping me was very friendly. The ribs were so good, the meat literally fell off the bone. Probably some of the best ribs I've ever had. The only downside to my meal is that my boyfriend missed it. He LOVES ribs, so I will have to come back again. We got into town late and saw this place on Yelp, in the mood for bbq so why not? Got there about 30 minutes before closing, expecting them to be out of some things. Nope, full menu. I ordered a full rack of ribs and wife wanted to try the brisket (she loves mine!). The four sides we had were great and the ribs - fantastic! I know they crutched them off the bone but the flavor and texture was really good. The -1 star is for the brisket. Although it was tender the fat was fully half the slice and whatever bark they tried for was list on the fat. At home I trim the fat cap to about 1/2" but this was full- thick and distracting from the experience. $55 read more

Went here at 5:30 for some take out. First impression was the people working the take out part of the place were not happy to be there. We felt as we were interrupting something as they didn't seem happy to see us or take our order. No problem, everyone has bad days and I rarely rely on reviews solely based upon customer service. We got a couple of burgers, a pulled pork cup item and one drink and the tab was $40 including the 4% "service charge" for using an ATM card. The food came out quicker than a McDonalds and the burgers were almost inedible. They were either microwaved frozen cooked Costco burgers or had been cooked earlier in the day and then microwaved. They were so overcooked I had to stop at the gas station to get a drink to be able to swallow the 1/2 that I ate. The fries were limp like spaghetti so I didn't even try them. I'm guessing the previous owner did a good job as there are some really good reviews. The current situation makes this place a hard pass. read more

Grangeville,ID Absolutely rude and scary! I am all about supporting local. We pulled the motorhome and truck into the parking lot thinking it would be a great place to grab lunch. Rachel and I took to dogs out on leash with poop bags visible. They weren't quite open. The side door opened and he yelled at us "those dogs can't come back here". We said okay and moved to the side and front where there was a little grass. He came back out screaming from the front door at as to "get the ......off his property or he would call the police." Nothing is made fresh. They do the bare minimum. It is nice inside. I like the ambience. They do have a decent selection of beers. They also have plenty of parking. I don't understand why the cooks / pit master brings you your food. I'm all for them interacting with the people when they have time but they need to work on their quality first. On a road trip, on our way to Moscow to visit family, we stayed the night in Grangeville to wait out the current storm. So when you are stuck in a place for several hours, what do you do? You find the best rib place on the area...errrr...in the state! Family owned at that! Since we got here early, we decided to wander over to the bar side of the establishment. Very cool open room with a few pool tables and an electronic dart board. There were numerous beers on tap, which we took advantage of. We ordered the appetizer of the fries loaded with pulled pork and cheese, a great way to start the evening , and something delicious to snack on while,we played pool. After several games, we wandered back over to the restaurant side. I ordered the rib plate. That sounds so easy to say, but what I meant to say was that I ordered the best ribs I have ever tasted in my life! They were sweet and spicy, seasoned and smoked so well that they didn't need any of the provided BBQ sauce. I think I am in love with this place! This will absolutely be our traditional stop anytime we come up this way, you need to stop here too and enjoy a little bit of heaven during your commute. read more

It's a great atmosphere. Very beautifully remodeled. I like the dart boards and the pool tables/ juke box etc. and it has become one of my favorite places to take my wife on a date. I'll continue to go but had two recent fairly negative experiences. First, I went in at 11:00 a.m. and had my own drink because I had to go off of sugar and cancerous poisons for my own health. I drink real lemon lemonade with stevia only a smidge of sugar, 1 gram. We were not consuming alcohol at that hour of course. I take my own drink in restaurants all the time and this is the first time the waitress made a huge issue out of it and forced me to take my drink back to my truck. This was the first hint they don't really care about catering to their customers much. We were the only people there and the waitress had nothing to do so she stared at us playing darts which was uncomfortable. She already knew I was annoyed at her forcing me to get rid of my drink. So as a result, I did not order food as I had planned on. But she managed to make our date awkward. I worked food service when I was younger and there's plenty to do in a kitchen other than stare at your patrons and bug them. She had nothing to do for those 45 minutes. We were the only patrons and she couldn't even treat us with a little customer service. On my next visit we went on a date here recently. My wife and I are on keto diets so a meat place makes sense. However, not one side item was anything but starch. No options for keto berries, nuts, side salad or cottage cheese even. You basically have to pay for a whole other meal if you want a salad. When I mentioned my eating requirements the waitress looked at me like I had two heads. Is a middle-aged man trying to make healthy choices for himself so rare that you have to treat your customers like that in front of their spouse? And then she told us to go to a different restaurant if we didn't like it. Wow! Other than that she was nice the rest of the night. And I don't believe in giving less than four stars unless the problem isn't fixed in the future. That would show me you really don't care about your customers after receiving constructive feedback. I still gave a positive review and I still tipped the waitresses. Well I tipped one of them well anyways. My simple suggestion would be if you cannot offer sugar-free cancer-free drinks, then allow your customers to bring their own drinks in and don't bug them about it unless they have alcohol or it's at least after 5:00 when folks would be drinking. Real lemon lemonade can be purchased right at the local grocery store and provided to your customers. It's America. We should be able to drink what we want if you don't have it. When someone has special dietary requirements, perhaps you might want to cater to your customers a little better. At the very least, show that you care and don't treat them differently like they are a different species. Thank you, And to be fair, I'll update this review based on the next time I go. As a business owner, I don't like leaving a negative stain on another business if they're willing to fix it. read more

Grangeville has the best bbq in Idaho? I am a believer. The ribs were cooked to perfection. I can't imagine how much time went into making them so incredibly tender. Mixed bag here. The glowing reviews drew us in, but there are some shortfalls for sure, if you're serious about good BBQ. The ribs were good. Not much in the way of smoke flavor, but the texture is good and they're cleaned and trimmed well. This was the high point, and good that it was since the place is named the rib guy. The brisket disappointed. Again, not much smoke we could detect, and there was a large vein of unrendered fat through the middle. It's a decent attempt, but would fall flat compared to most briskets we've had around the country. Not juicy, fairly tender, just so so. The beans looked and tasted like they came from a can. The cole slaw was not noteworthy, and there is no bread to accompany the BBQ plate. Not white bread, not cornbread, just the meat and sides. That says a lot, IMO. We had two pulled pork meals. As I watched in the kitchen as they were preparing, everything comes out of a can or container of some sort. When I asked the waitress what was homemade, she said the coleslaw and fries. The pork was extremely salty, coleslaw was out of a bag with a store bought dressing, so not homemade but mixed together there, and potato salad was Resers. Traditional low and slow smoked meat. Smoke flavor was perfect and not overdone leaving a nice ring. The bark was that perfect texture and flavor bomb with every bite. Ribs were tender and juicy. sauce is not necessary with these incredible ribs. Sides are basic staples of mac n cheese, fries, coleslaw etc. I would recommend the garlic mash potatoes. The owner truly cares about your experience and goes above and beyond to accommodate everyone. I can't believe the hospitality he showed, even when having a bad day. This place is a real gem. Since it is cooked low and slow they only have so much food and it will sell out if you're late.
