Palermo's has always been one of my favorite spots on the South Side for pizza, but this time I decided to switch things up and try one of their Italian dishes instead. I ordered the meat ravioli, which came with a side of chicken noodle soup. The soup was actually really good, as it was warm, flavorful, and a perfect little starter before the main course. As for the ravioli itself, it was decent but not especially memorable. Each ravioli had a generous amount of filling, which I appreciated, but the filling leaned a little too salty for my taste. The meat sauce on top also fell a bit flat and didn't add much flavor to the dish overall. I'd still definitely come back for the pizza because Palermo's does that incredibly well, but I'd probably skip the ravioli next time around. read more

We had the Sicilian shrimp & Calamari, deep dish pizza, and tiramisu. The shrimp and calamari were very good with roasted bell peppers. Very fresh and tasty. The deep dish was very decadent in flavor. The sauce is definitely on the sweeter side though. I found myself adding some salt and Parmesan so it would tone down the sweetness a little, but I still really liked the pizza. I might just be used to more acidic sauces in general.... The tiramisu was decent. The best part was the plating. Very nice flavored cream and caramel drizzle came with. Overall, we're happy with our choice of deep dish while visiting the Chicago area! read more

The food and the ambience are superb! The first time I went there the service was excellent. It was a little bit more crowded today and our waitress was spread a little bit too thin but when she was at the table, she was very courteous and kind. There's nothing negative to say about the place. It is quaint. It is cozy. It is comfortable. The only thing that I have a negative about is the parking. It's difficult to find parking if there are a few families that have shown up in groups to have dinner there. Other than that an excellent experience try the tiramisu it's to die for. read more

The plates are ginormous and so you may want to order one and share it with your friends. But if you love to eat then by all means order a full plate. The pizzas are sooo soo delicious especially the sauce. I'm a big fan of the sauce so I like to order it with a little extra sauce. The place is very lovely and the service is top notch. My review is only based on pizza because Palermo's has been my favorite pizza to get delivered my entire life. In the last few years however it has become inconsistent and I also think different ingredients are being used. Maybe cheaper options to cut cost? The cheese is not the same as it used to be. A telltale sign is how different the texture is when having a cold leftover slice the next day. Palermo's has always also been good cold but not any longer. The cheese texture is not the same. I also think the sauce is different. Not as thick or as sweet as it used to be. Huge shame here because it was a beautiful pizza sauce that coated the dough so nicely. I say it's inconsistent now too because it seems every other time the pizza is nowhere near as good as the last time we ordered. We don't know which will show up. Sometimes the sauce is way too thin and almost watery. That was never a thing with their pizza. Last night was the worst pizza yet which is why I'm finally writing this. There was way too much cheese on it for one. We felt like we were eating Phil's pizza. The thin and crispy failed to be that crispy and for the first time ever the sauce tasted sour. I wanted to call and complain but my husband talked me out of it. I just want Palermo's to make pizza the way they used to. It was the absolute best. Thankfully their sausage is still really good, but it's a moot point considering it has to go on a subpar pizza. read more

We had the Buffalo Chicken Pizza with spicy breaded chicken in Cool Ranch sauce and melty mozzarella, a classic sausage pizza (with the best sweet red sauce!), and tomato bruschetta. Everything was spot on from the crust to the sauce to the toppings. Service was great, the vibe is cozy and nostalgic, and you can tell this place has been doing it right for decades. The food is excellent. However, we were there in an empty restaurant and they seated us in back in a very small two person table. Everyone started coming in and was seated at the larger tables (even people with a party of two like us). I have to wonder what triggered differential seating. I asked to speak to a manager. No one came after 10-15 minutes. So, as we were leaving in the front I asked again. The manager said next time they would give us a better table. The pasta with beans was delicious, the grilled calamari's weee accompaniment with bell orange papers and black olives this is a new for me to have grilled calamari but not bad the eggplant Parmasan was ok but once again the spaghetti was well done not Al dente the marinara was 2 thumbs down. We also had spaghetti with a huge meat ball. I really love this place and tonight was especially wonderful because of a server named Neemah. I've been to this place many times and I truly love the food.... But the server was top notch tonight I was having issues with the Alfredo. honestly it was an easy fix ... But I cringe when I have to send anything back.. But Neemah truly was phenomenal ..She has a skill that cannot be taught you just are gifted with it .. And that quality is actually caring about people and their experience... This has been one of our go to places over the years living in Chicago. After five years living in Tennessee, we made a point of eating here during this visit. It was a pleasure to see that absolutely nothing had changed. I ordered my usual, Cioppino. Theirs is definitely the best this side of San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. We got seated right away. Sat there for over 20 minutes and finally we spoke up to the hostess as a table next to us came in after us and I already had their drink. We finally got service. He messed up on the drinks. Had to go back correct them. The food was very disappointing. They changed the way they served the eggplant nonna. Two of us have had it before, and we both agreed they changed the recipe. Neither one of us finish our meals or took it home. Biggest mistake also was stopping at the bar for a nightcap as we were all going in different directions when we left. The bartender could not even crack a smile. This was our first time here and I had such high hopes. Google said HH is from 4-6 M-F so we made a reservation for a high top in the bar area. No happy hour at all but they have specials on certain days. Please update your google business account. The food wasn't bad at all but our service was the worst we've had in years. I had to order drinks at the bar, flag down our waitress, we returned a margarita that tasted like sweet and sour mix on ice, she charged us for it, and we didn't see her once for the entire main course. We had to ask the hostess for a boz and the check. Our server made no apologies for abandoning us. Another couple left their table next to us and sat at the bar bc they said no one was servicing that area. No manager to be seen. We saw our waitress laughing with her friend when she saw me at the bar. We would have ordered more drinks and probably dessert if someone was present. I'll probably never return to this restaurant again and I will be sure to tell my friends not to go there. So disappointing. read more

To go to a restaurant that charges approximately $30 per entrée, the customer has a right to expect good service. The service there could only be described as lousy and unprofessional. She was hardly there. She served my companion and I had to wait an inordinate amount of time for her to bring mine. The fish was dry, most probably from sitting on the counter under the heat lamp. She never checked to ask if everything was ok. Twice we had to ask another staff person to ask her to come to our table. It was somewhat ironical that a person at the next table complained to the manager about the service she received from the same waitress. I also spoke to the manager; she apologized and said the waitress was new. Management needs to hire motivated and competent staff and give them proper training. Until management does, save your money and go somewhere else. read more
