I visited the South Side with family and wanted to try out Vito and Nick's for years. I finally got the opportunity to go a few weeks ago. I absolutely love their tavern style pizza! The cracker thin crust complements the thin layer of cheese and toppings. They've been doing this for decades so they have their pizza and entrees down packed. This is definitely a neighborhood joint with an extremely popular rep with locals and tourists. I enjoyed taking in the old school vibe and looking at family photos lining the walls from decades past. One thing especially stood out regarding décor and that was the carpet lining the walls! 3 stars is ok in Yelp land, and that is the most Vito & Nick's Pizzeria deserves. Arrived 4:40 pm Monday afternoon. Reasonably pleasant waitress gave us estimate of 30 minutes for a large pizza. Right on the button, though it's not clear to me why it should take so long to bake a very thin crust pie when there are 20+ people in the dining room. The pizza was mediocre at best. If you like cracker-style crust, that helps. However, the sauce had little flavor to it and modest amount of cheese. Dining room tables are very close together; we could move around them ok, but when the joint is rockin' and full, it's very tight. We had to try the pizza but the sandwiches and some dinners are very reasonably priced. Extremely small bathrooms. V&N might be a legend and it's great to exist after more than 100 years, but there's no reason for me to return. Decent size parking lot on south side of restaurant. read more

Solid tavern style pizza with a lot of history. My friends and I ordered a large sausage & pepperoni pizza and a large sausage, mushroom, and onion pizza. Both crusts were crisp around the edges and softer toward the center. Cheese and toppings were good, and service was very good. I would say the pizza is "above average," so not among the best I've had, but also not bad. It has a fun, divey atmosphere, which gives the place some charm, and there is a parking lot for convenience, although there is also street parking available. I finally got to try the infamous Nick & Vito's and it did not disappoint. I'd absolutely go back again. The old-school Chicago vibes were perfect, something you just don't find outside the city. It felt like home to me from Someone who lived out of state. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the food was solid, and it wasn't overly crowded when we went, which made for a relaxed experience. There was convenient parking outside, and it appeared to be wheelchair accessible, with comfortable table heights and a spacious women's restroom. The pizza was just okay at the restaurant (parm and pepper did some heavy lifting, cheese and toppings felt very bland) but *somehow* tasted much better as leftovers at home after getting blasted in the airfryer. As always Vito and nicks never disappoints! Little bit of a wait but well worth it. Definitely recommend waiting a few minutes when it hits the table. Cheddar jalapeño poppers and mushrooms are classic and served with both ranch and marinara. Both Pizzas were delish! The cracker crust was crispy and the perfect vehicle for cheese and toppings. Cut into squares, easily shared: literally we ate and left no crumb. I think the sausage was my favorite and I would order it again with the peppers and onions. The giardiniera was not as hot as we would've liked, and I think I rather have it fresh than baked to keep that crisp texture. Staff were polite and on point. Refills were prompt and they have plenty of alcohol options as well for a more potent potable than that delectable RC cola. I was by myself, so they found me a 2 person table against the wall. I had water to drink and ordered a Large Sausage Pizza, well done. How was it? Delicious! Tavern style, super thin, tons of sausage. Not too much cheese or sauce, perfect amount. Could have been a tad bit more "well done" but it was still crunchy and delicious! I was shoveling those little squares of pizza in my mouth until about halfway through. I couldn't eat any more. I took the other half home, and snacked on that the next morning for breakfast. Parking lot was full, but we found street parking on Pulaski a couple doors down from the restaurant. There was a line of people waiting for tables when we arrived, and a woman instructed me to go to the front of the line to sign in. The tables were all full, except for a couple of tiny tables for two by the wall. As luck would have it, we were a party of two and were seated. Server delivered menus and took our beverage orders. We decided on our pizza, and ordered when the drinks arrived. Wine is a generous pour for the $9.50 charge. The pizza came, was delicious as always. Thin cracker crust, good sauce, and very tasty sausage-my companion never had Nick and Vito's, and declared it a good pizza. Prices are quite reasonable, cash only! The funny thing is that I hadn't been to the restaurant in a few years. It hasn't changed, just people going to enjoy a good pizza, maybe a beer or two, and companionship. I took a friend that had never had tavern style pizza and we tried this place since I had never been and heard so many great things about it. The place was pretty empty when we went around lunch on a weekend. What was immediately alarming was the carpeted ceiling, it seemed like a hazard waiting not to mention a petri dish for mold and bacteria. So, for years I have been telling myself that I have to make an effort to drive over and get one of Chicago's best tavern cut pizzas. I have to say, I was not let down. Well this certainly isn't an unknown gem, but after a visit to the zoo on the 4th of July it is one of the places we could confirm would be open. Since it's the kind of holiday most people would be at a house party or festival, we were able to get a table with no hassle, and get the closest parking spot to the door to boot. Obvious disclaimer: bring cash! Also, don't be fooled by the Coke and Pepsi branded refrigerators you see, they're for take out customers. They serve RC inside. My wife was a bit unsure when she originally ordered a Diet Coke, and the waitress kindly offered to take back our Diet RCs if we didn't like them, but they were fine. We started with the fried mushrooms, which we really enjoyed because the breading was well seasoned and the shrooms weren't overbreaded. Then the star of the show - a large sausage pizza. I firmly believe the hype is worth is. The crust is thin and crispy, the edges are ever so slightly caramelized, and the ratio of toppings is spot on. Not so much cheese that it's sliding off slices as you grab them, but still enough to enjoy, and a bit of sausage on almost every piece. Also I love how small they cut the square slices, almost to the point where you can eat it a slice at a time. Makes it easy to feed our toddler, and you don't feel like you're overcommitting when you feel like just one more piece. Since the crust is perfectly cut it's satisfying to pull apart the pieces with ease and not having to try and separate soft bread. It's a bit far from our house so we wouldn't be regulars, but for days we're willing to drive for a treat this will always be on the list. read more
