The food is excellent. However, we were there in an empty restaurant and they seated us in back in a very small two person table. Everyone started coming in and was seated at the larger tables (even people with a party of two like us). I have to wonder what triggered differential seating. I asked to speak to a manager. No one came after 10-15 minutes. So, as we were leaving in the front I asked again. The manager said next time they would give us a better table. My review is only based on pizza because Palermo's has been my favorite pizza to get delivered my entire life. In the last few years however it has become inconsistent and I also think different ingredients are being used. Maybe cheaper options to cut cost? The cheese is not the same as it used to be. A telltale sign is how different the texture is when having a cold leftover slice the next day. Palermo's has always also been good cold but not any longer. The cheese texture is not the same. I also think the sauce is different. Not as thick or as sweet as it used to be. Huge shame here because it was a beautiful pizza sauce that coated the dough so nicely. I say it's inconsistent now too because it seems every other time the pizza is nowhere near as good as the last time we ordered. We don't know which will show up. Sometimes the sauce is way too thin and almost watery. That was never a thing with their pizza. Last night was the worst pizza yet which is why I'm finally writing this. There was way too much cheese on it for one. We felt like we were eating Phil's pizza. The thin and crispy failed to be that crispy and for the first time ever the sauce tasted sour. I wanted to call and complain but my husband talked me out of it. I just want Palermo's to make pizza the way they used to. It was the absolute best. Thankfully their sausage is still really good, but it's a moot point considering it has to go on a subpar pizza. read more

We got seated right away. Sat there for over 20 minutes and finally we spoke up to the hostess as a table next to us came in after us and I already had their drink. We finally got service. He messed up on the drinks. Had to go back correct them. The food was very disappointing. They changed the way they served the eggplant nonna. Two of us have had it before, and we both agreed they changed the recipe. Neither one of us finish our meals or took it home. Biggest mistake also was stopping at the bar for a nightcap as we were all going in different directions when we left. The bartender could not even crack a smile. This was our first time here and I had such high hopes. Google said HH is from 4-6 M-F so we made a reservation for a high top in the bar area. No happy hour at all but they have specials on certain days. Please update your google business account. The food wasn't bad at all but our service was the worst we've had in years. I had to order drinks at the bar, flag down our waitress, we returned a margarita that tasted like sweet and sour mix on ice, she charged us for it, and we didn't see her once for the entire main course. We had to ask the hostess for a boz and the check. Our server made no apologies for abandoning us. Another couple left their table next to us and sat at the bar bc they said no one was servicing that area. No manager to be seen. We saw our waitress laughing with her friend when she saw me at the bar. We would have ordered more drinks and probably dessert if someone was present. I'll probably never return to this restaurant again and I will be sure to tell my friends not to go there. So disappointing. read more

To go to a restaurant that charges approximately $30 per entrée, the customer has a right to expect good service. The service there could only be described as lousy and unprofessional. She was hardly there. She served my companion and I had to wait an inordinate amount of time for her to bring mine. The fish was dry, most probably from sitting on the counter under the heat lamp. She never checked to ask if everything was ok. Twice we had to ask another staff person to ask her to come to our table. It was somewhat ironical that a person at the next table complained to the manager about the service she received from the same waitress. I also spoke to the manager; she apologized and said the waitress was new. Management needs to hire motivated and competent staff and give them proper training. Until management does, save your money and go somewhere else. read more

We used to choose Palermo's often. Not anymore! on 2/28/2025 we had TERRIBLE service, and the food was so-so. We waited 20 minutes before a waitperson approached our table, then another wait for drinks, which were incorrect. The recipe for the eggplant Nona has been changed. It was not as good. One diner of our part of 4 barely touched her dinner because she said it tasted off - waiter never came back to table to check on us, the table was not bussed until we asked. To try and salvage the night we stopped at the bar for a drink to be served by the most unpleasant bartender. She did not smile - maybe said 5 words to us. What a way to feel unwelcome! Grew up in Illinois and living in the south for past 10 years and miss Chi Town REAL Italian pizza! Palermo's pizza was truly one of the best I've had in a very long time! I've done a number of pizza reviews and have to admit Palermo's has been a favorite of mine. A group of us family members met there for dinner. I ordered pizza (thin crispy mushroom sausage) while others selected pasta dishes. All the pastas, tortellini, ravioli, spaghetti, were very good, as expected. Al dente with great sauce. My pizza was tavern style square cut. Perfect crust; crispy and no flop. The cheese was ample and not too greasy. Nice char marks. The sauce had background sweetness that played off the spiciness and fennel of the sausage. I loved it. I rate the pizza 9 out of a possible 10. Service last night was a different story. While the food came out quickly after we ordered our waitress was very hard to find after service. She forgot 2 requests, I had to get up and find her twice. On top of that, at a table away from us bus help spilled a bottle of olive oil on the floor. The clean up activity was bothersome and distracting, and the area ended up smelling like pinesol cleaner. Very unpleasant. They never asked if we wanted to move to a different table. Lastly the buss service was rushed before we were finished. Asking folks to pass their plates over the table while others are still eating is ridiculous. Terrible. We don't go to Palermo's for the ambiance. I ordered a pizza from Palermo's on 95th yesterday 6.29.25. I called about 15 minutes before they opened at noon. I live about 45 minutes away, I was in the neighborhood, I try to get something there whenever I'm close by. Being that they weren't open yet. The 45 minutes they quoted was right on time. I have become an extra thin crust and well done pizza lover regardless of the toppings. When I called it in the young lady on the phone asked if I meant extra crispy for the crust. They must save information about how you like your pizza from past orders. If not, the person on the phone was very intuitive. They nailed it!!! I ordered the thin and crispy Palermo's special. Sausage, Mushroom, Onion, Green pepper. I grew up on Beggars pizza, Giordano's, Nancy's, Pequots, Chicago Pizza oven and grinder. Home Run inn. We are very fortunate to have so many outstanding pizza restaurants in Chicago and suburbs. Every one I mentioned here is at least a 4 in my book. The unique part of this Palermo's experience was that when I got there the girl behind the counter asked if I wanted a box. The pizza was wrapped in a pizza bag like usual. Being that I moved 45 minutes from them. I gladly took the box. Upon arriving at home, I was craving the pizza because it smelled so good in my truck. When I opened the box and the bag, I found the EXACT pizza that was perfectly cooked according to the way I like it. PERFECT! A sampling of every ingredient was in every bite. That is very rare. Some places try to pile on the toppings. That's awesome, but when ordering a pizza extra thin and well done. It rarely comes exactly how I wanted it. Usually it's not cooked to well done. The crust gets soft or various other problems arise. If your favorite is the way I described, Then Palermo's on 95th in Oak Lawn is the place to go!!! This is an unsolicited review. The pizza here is a "Go" in relation to the "Southside" of Chicago pizza standards. The flavor is sweet and savory, the crust crispy and crunchy. If a good thin crust pizza is on your mind this is a great start, be prepared to spend as it is pretty pricey. Mondays and Wednesdays their specials are attractive and price conscious. Anytime we have a movie night my son requests delivery from Palermo's. Cannot go wrong! read more

Palermo's is my favorite Pizza in Chicago! I drove down from the Glen Ellyn area just to get this pizza. I would totally give the pizza 5 plus stars. The sauce is delicious! That is what makes it unique. The service the day I was there was pretty bad. It took forever for the server to come over and when she did and took our drink order it took quite a while to get the drinks. (10 minutes). The pizza was seriously over baked, the cheese was brown and crispy which takes away from the gooeyness we all enjoy. Wow! Just WOW! We came to Palermo's for dinner with a sizable crowd (15 - max reservation is 18, fyi) and the entire experience was amazing. When we walked in, I felt like we were in a grandmothers house. It was warm and welcoming. The tables are arranged for gathering and lingering. The servers didn't mind at all when we rearranged the room to make it more Deaf friendly. And the food was incredible. I am guessing this is about as authentic Italian as it gets. So enjoyable!!!! Glad we were at the "right" Palermo's! Ambience and service were exactly what we had hoped for! "Pedro" did a great job of giving us the space I like between courses, and making suggestions! (I assume it's the same as what I saw in a on-line review?) started with split of Prosecco...just because. Shared a glass of nice house Merlot reasonably priced. Other liqour was two Beefeaters on the rocks...so no opinion, just consider it when you see the total. Started with a baked artichoke because we had never had before. "Stuffing" was heavy bread crumbs somewhat seasoned and some melted butter. Way too much breading and not much of the artichoke leaves left for "scraping". Husband ordered linguine with red clam sauce and said it was "just ok". Not a fan of the baby clams being in the shells (and plentiful!) and red sauce was thinner than he expected (probably more authentic?!) after adding a cup of marinara sauce he liked better. My lasagna was disappointing to me due to it being nothing but layers of noodles with ricotta in between....found no sign of mozzarella or layers of meat sauce as I like. Choice of meat sauce or marinara on top so I ordered the meat sauce. Ok but again very little meat in the "meat sauce"....but acceptable. Wouldn't order either dish again though. (And I usually judge my Italian restaurants by their lasagna....just saying). Best part of meal was dessert! My tiramisu was yummy! And I was surprised HOW good my husband's cannoli was! BEWARE If I could give less than one star - I would, for unprofessional business practices. It seems most restaurants have adopted the business practice of charging a 3% service charge for using a credit card when paying a food bill. Palermo's 95th has also done so. So I used a debit card when paying my bill and was still charged the 3% service charge, even though a debit card is the same as cash and does not charge any fees for using one. I was told they charge a 3% service charge for using a debit card also. On their food bill, it reads 3% charge for credit card only. Deceptive business practices. read more

My friend and I were both celebrating our birthdays and made an Open Table reservation to dine 12/18/21. I specifically stated that we were celebrating birthdays on the reservation. Neither my friend or I had been here before. When I got here, I got excited because of how many cars were in the parking lot and how many people were in the carry out section thinking "wow, this food must be really good". I came in and even though I had a reservation, they were very busy this night and I had to wait 10-12 minutes before being seated. When I was seated, I waited awhile before anyone came over to introduce themselves as our server which I felt wasn't a good sign to start off with. Aaron did finally come over and was friendly so we appreciated that. We ordered our drinks and after we got our drinks, ordered our food. Aaron came with warm bread so we grabbed the small plates on the table to discover that there was a big wad of melted cheese in between the plates- they were not clean so we had to ask for different plates. The restaurant was full and yes we noticed that. But what we also noticed is that we would see our server attending to other tables but not ours with the food we ordered. Our reservation was at 6:15 and by 8 p.m., we still hadn't gotten our food and asked Aaron where was our food. He told me that the kitchen is "slammed". If that is the case, give the customers some notice or updates of that, it certainly would of help matters. When our food finally came, my order was wrong and I initially repeated my order twice so this should not have happened, therefore, I was frustrated. My friend was being picked up at 8:30 p.m. so there is no way she or I could eat our meals. My friend tasted her ravioli and said it was bland. Aaron offered to put in another order and bring the manager out but I refused a new order. He saw my displeasure and said it would only take a few minutes and said he would put the order in. The manager never came out but it's funny how quickly they were able to turn around my meal the second time around. I asked Aaron what happened to the manager and he said since he put my food order in again and it was comped, the manager felt like the issue was resolved. I told him the manager was wrong and if he doesn't want to come out to speak with me, that says alot. Next thing I know, Mason the manager comes out and acts like he doesn't have any idea as to what the issues are. I explained to him all of the problems we had and there being no communication on the delay in our orders. His response was so unacceptable - he basically told me that my meal was comped so I guess he thought that would solve everything and it certainly didn't. He needed the feedback to know all the problems we experienced the whole time we were there but as my friend noticed, he just didn't seem to care and that's a problem. I should not be carrying or trying to eat my meal at home, it was supposed to be enjoyed at the establishment. What's really sad is that we got to see a table nearby get celebrated for a person's birthday but neither myself or my friend got that opportunity. When Aaron finally (again gone for awhile) came back to take my payment, he brought the billfold back with somebody else's credit card named Daniel! I told him "this isn't my card" and he seemed to not believe me and then when he left to check, he came back and tried to excuse it by saying 1. "oh, they are both Chase cards" and 2. "I need more sleep". Not cool at all. Too many issues here. If you need to hire more staff, then please do. Even if you are short staffed, many establishments are at this particular time, be upfront with your customers regarding delays. The battle between sweet sauce and traditional sauce for pizza is eternal. True pizza fanatics enjoy both sauce types as well as different crust styles. The thin and crispy is our go to. It never disappoints (unless you get it delivered because sometimes it's not warm when you get it). The toppings are always plentiful. We request slightly well done especially when it's busy which is almost always. You cannot go wrong with this pizza. For apps the have a delicious antipasto salad that is always refreshing. I've also tried the zucchini sticks which are solid especially with the house made ranch. Don't sleep on their pasta dishes for a change of pace. read more

I've been coming here a long time with my family. I've always enjoyed the food, as it's some of the best Italian-American food in the Oak Lawn area. But the service at this place is just getting worse and worse. Long waits, multiple wrong orders, and basically indifference towards their customers when things go wrong. Case in point, February 2020 we celebrated my father's birthday. My sister purchased an expensive cake from a bakery downtown and brought it to the restaurant, who kindly agreed to serve it to him after dinner- and then promptly gave it away to another table. And for the love of God, I have no idea why another table would eat a cake they didn't even order that read "Happy Birthday George" ?!? So the cake thing sucks, but accidents happen. And Palermo's eventually replaced our cake with desserts after a prolonged period of confusion and poor-communication. The desserts were pretty good. Actually, they were great. However no manager ever came by to apologize. He was in the restaurant and we were told was aware that his kitchen staff messed up. All it takes is to come by and say "Hey, we messed up, I'm so sorry" and boom, I'm not writing this negative review. You didn't have to actually even BE sorry - just come by and fake apologize to my father. Instead he left his mortified waitress floundering at our table and crying for something that wasn't even her fault. It. Was. So. Awkward. So yeah. The food is good. And this place has a very nice old school restaurant feel, something that is quickly disappearing in modern restaurants in favor of the sleek and modern. But what's NOT old school about this place is the hospitality and customer appreciation. And seeing as all that honestly takes is just a little bit of effort, I find it pretty insulting. We always go here or get take out from here when we are in town. It is my father and mother's favorite pizza place in their old neighborhood. A thin crust sausage pizza is always on our order along with whatever else we fancy; this last time it was Greek salad and a supreme thin crust pizza. For me personally, the pizza is good but the sauce is a little on the sweet side. Now, that won't stop me from demolishing a whole pizza but I figured I should mention it since people tend to be picky about their pizzas. I did a Google search for the area to have a birthday dinner, and came across Palermo's 95th restaurant after careful review I made the decision to host my event with them. I sent two inquires via their website and left a voice message with no response. I called again to speak with the banquet staff, only to be told I have to leave another message for them. When I tried to explain to the young lady who answered the phone on 9/26/25 around 11:45am she elevated her tone and cut me off mid sentence to say "just give me your information and I will hand it to them" as if I annoyed her for stating I have tried 3 times to speak with someone and I have yet to receive any communication. I immediately told her that was rude of her to cut me off and I will not hold my dinner there. Her response was "thats fine". I can't believe this is how you treat a person who has never stepped foot in the restaurant but wanted to support your business with a banquet dinner. read more

This is a very nice authentic Italian restaurant that serves up great classics but also really good unique pizza. There are many pizza places to choose from in the area but what makes this special is the type of crust and the sauce being sweet compared to everyone else in the area. It's great delivered or take out but it's the best when you go in and have it there. The staff is friendly and inviting and it is over all very clean in the restaurant areas. We had our Caddie Pizza Rankings last year, and Palermo's won a close one over Roseangela's. Oddly enough, though I am a fat ass and a South Sider, I had never had Palermo's, so after the poll, I figured it was time to remedy this. I was not disappointed. I've only had their thin crust cheese and sausage pizzas, but I have found them to be some of the tastiest pizzas I've ever eaten. You can tell that it's a family recipe because each bite has that little zing to it, the way Roseangela's does and the way Giordano's--which I like, by the way--does not. This is pizza you can savor! Did it live up to its billing? It certainly did. I heard that their other location is even better, but the Oak Lawn location is quite alright. If there were pizza wars, would I fight for Palermo's? Possibly, though I am a peace-loving man, as you all know. I mean, I'm not a hippie; I just would try to find a peaceful solution first. I have to say that my guy Mikey works there and he loves it. He's a cool guy, but his kid brother probably eclipses him in coolness, due to his brother's choice of high schools. But Mikey working at Palermo's almost evens the score.
