Husband and I wanted some pasta..I suggested Palermo's because in the past, it's been a decent place to get Italian. This was a weird experience. I ordered pasta con ricotta which according to the menu description was bowtie, with ricotta and a creamy white sauce. What I got was bowtie, with warm ricotta and an olive oil drizzle. That's it, no sauce. When I informed the waitress, I said the menu should be corrected because this pasta does not have a sauce unless it was overlooked. She consulted the kitchen and was told this is how the dish is prepared and again I said that's fine but the menu should be changed, no worries, I'm making it work. *The bowtie was cooked perfectly, the ricotta was fresh, so I added some more olive oil, butter, salt and pepper from the table and I was eating good!* In my mind that was the end of it. The waitress comes back with a marinara, I looked her puzzled.. and said I don't want marinara. ‍ She comes back again with some sort of Alfredo looking sauce, and I repeated, I'm good, I'm half way finished, I don't want that sauce I'm good. ‍ Then the next thing I know here comes a guy says he's the manager/owner and out the gate he is aggressive "I heard you have a problem." Really!? My 1st mind said tell this guy, you have nothing to discuss, for some odd reason my self preservation instincts kicked up strong. I didn't listen to myself.. I explained that the description on the menu didn't match what I was given.. he cut me off.. I won't charge you (reaching for my plate, I had to block him).. give you something else for free.. ummm ..sir, I have doctored my meal and am almost done.. no thank you.. well I'll give you a free dessert.. ummm.. no thank you.. if I want dessert I will buy it.. then he says what do you want to make you happy.. ummm.. who said I wasn't happy.. (a critique of expectations according to the menu not being met doesn't necessarily translate to being unhappy).. I then said, I no longer wish to speak with you, at this point there is nothing you can do for me. His body language, tone and attitude was beyond aggressive.. I felt threatened. My husband was pleased with his dish (orange roughie with pasta), our drinks were good and the tiramisu was passable. The aesthetic was very nice and the service was good but.. from the hostesses, to the bus people and definitely our server.. everyone seemed skidish.. the bartender was the only confident and secure person I saw.. making the atmosphere lack joy. One of the greatest part of experiencing an Italian restaurant is the genuine joy and pride that emminates from those who are taking care of you.. this was not there at ALL.. this environment felt oppressive. With that being said I'm sure bias came into play with the interactions I had at this restaurant. I can't say that I will return to this location. Let's call this 4.5. Walked over from the hotel. Right away I knew this was just what we were looking for. Not an over-the-top Italian dining experience. But a casual business dinner. We had a server but all the employees seemed dedicated to making sure our group was well taken care of. From filling water, to additional bread to a replacement fork when one did a back-flip onto the floor. A decent wine selection and a something for everyone lengthy menu. I wanted to wait to review because I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, the first time I ordered I wasn't impressed but I ordered in Halloween and I'm sure it was very busy because I wasn't a fan of the pizza then but I ordered it again on a regular day and it deff tasted better. I think the secret in the pizza is their sauce so deff ask for extra sauce. Their pizza is good but I was still expecting it to be some of the best pizza I've had because of previous comments but it deff was good but a little overpriced. But I did like it and will definitely come back again. I also got the pasta and same thing with the pizza, their sauce is amazing. Oh how I used to enjoy eating at this location and how far down the rabbit hole Palermos has now fallen. If you're planning on going there for anything other than pizza you will be greatly disappointed, so don't. The service sucks because the management is weak. The kids they hire to serve clearly need a hand and guidance, but again, management is like a mount of 3 day old mash potatoes. There was a time, not that long ago, when you'd find the owner tend to his business, making sure things were as they should be, making the rounds. Haven't seen any of the owners in years and have witnessed the meteoric decline of their service and food quality. Flew back from New Orleans on 10/28 and called to order a pizza to go. We then decided to just eat it there, so I called back and they said no problem. Just let the server know. Got our usual. Thin and crispy sausage, pepperoni and green pepper. I say it every time but it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Pizza loaded with sauce (which I love) but the crust was still very crispy. Really disappointed in your service. I just called to place an order for pick-up and they tell me it's an hour and forty-five minute wait. The last two times I've ordered pizza, it's been VERY cold. I called and told this politely to one of your reps answering the phone. She hung up on me after I told her this. This is another example of negligence, greed, avariciousness, and malfeasance by this company. The incompetency, the illiteracy, the criminality, abrasiveness, obnoxiousness and repugnance of this customer service is unbelievable. I reached out by phone and I talked about the cold pizza in the past. They told me someone would call me back. They never called back. I've been told things would change and they never have. I had planned to try a variety of dishes over the past year that I've been ordering from Palermo's, but... the Chicken Scallopini is SO DELICIOUS!!! that I keep going back to it again and again and again. Every time I order I look through the entire menu and then when I open my mouth to order the words Chicken Scallopini come out! My husband loves the beef and sausage combo sandwich as well. Been here at the restaurant a number of times and always enjoyed our meal. On our last visit we were at a banquet party thrown in the banquet room on the side of the restaurant. While the banquet room is attached to the restaurant, you can't get there from here ... you have to walk outside and go around to the private entrance. This is somewhat confusing since they don't post that at the restaurant entrance, but it was easily fixed and we made our way there. The banquet room was a nice large room for special occasions and easily held over a 100 people. The food offerings were the same as on the restaurant side, and that means good solid fresh Italian fare. The pizza here is classic Chicago and excellent. Don't hesitate to eat here - at the banquet room or in the restaurant. read more

The pizza here is FANTASTIC!! Of course, they have a full menu of Italian dishes, as well. But we deliberately came here for the pizza. (Where I live we don't have good pizza like Chicago pizza). They immediately filled our water glasses. (Our server later brought a carafe of water so we would not run dry.) Then they brought a loaf of homemade bread to the table. On the table was a bottle of olive oil and a shaker of Parmesan cheese. We each mixed the oil and cheese on our plate and then soaked the bread in it. Oh, this could be a meal! But we had to save room for the pizza. We ordered the thin crust Palermo's special, which is sausage, mushroom, green pepper, and onion. Of course we got the extra large pizza so we could take some home. The pizza was so delicious I could easily overeat!! The atmosphere is classy and the service was friendly. The server checked up on us frequently enough to properly care for us, but not too much as to be annoying. We will definitely return when back in the area. read more

Been going to Palermo's since I have been a kid. It was the best pizza then and it's still the best pizza now. Wait: At 3:30pm on a Saturday there was no wait. However when we lest the place always full and there looked to be people waiting at the door. Service: Great service. The wait service was attentive to our table. Took our order almost immediately, took our drink orders, brought bread for the table, made sure our drinks were full during dinner, brought our pizza and then packed up the leftovers. I have to add an update to my review. Palermo's is my hands-down my favorite pizza out there, so this is sad to write. It needs to be addressed though. Lately the pizza is inconsistent. I think I'm a good judge since I've been eating their pizza for decades. The last several months when we order, i never know if we're actually going to get a real, true Palermo's pizza. The sauce is sometimes different which is upsetting. Their sauce is one of my favorite things about their pizza. It has a beautiful sweetness to it and is rich and with the right amount of thickness to really grab the dough and provide a nice layer. Sometimes though we get a pizza delivered and the sauce lacks that sweetness and isn't thick and rich at all. A couple times it was almost runny and watery. I swear there's a difference in the cheese, too. For example, it's different the next day. Palermo's is a great day-after-eat-a-slice-cold pizza, but this doesn't quite work now. Two nights ago we ordered a pizza (it wasn't a true Palermo's pizza) and I grabbed a leftover piece out of the fridge for a snack and it was not good. The texture of the cheese was so very different. It's really hard to describe the overall changes, but I know their pizza. Not only is it sad to see a change to such a great pizza, but the inconsistency is frustrating. When we get a great, true Palermo's pizza delivered, I'm now relieved because I think "okay, they're back on track" but then the next time it will be different. Whatever is going on, I hope they get it together and correct it soon. I really miss getting a great, authentic Palermo's pizza each and every time. When it's good, it is the best pizza in all of Chicagoland. If they are now cutting corners, they need to stop. Please return to the true recipe and be consistent! read more

Great pizza as always, original crust. "Palermo's" was born in 1961, same year as me and Chicago's "Bozo's Circus", I've been eating this pizza since I was a toddler! Our dine-in garlic bread order was scant though on this visit, and not very buttery or garlicky. The other complimentary warm bread/butter/olive oil was appreciated. This location needs to replace the broken toilet seat in the handicapped stall in the women's bathroom. A disaster waiting to happen. We were disappointed in the hostess, waitress and busboy. I would like to leave a review on the experience I encountered. At Palermo on 95 th st oaklawn I had ordered a dinner at 630 pm on a sunday..to be picked up at 715 pm...I talked to the girl who answered the phone who wanted to get off phone quickly.. I got the orange roughly dinner..I had said no tomatoes,extra cucumber on salad...I asked instead of fries can I have a vegetable. .she got off phone and presumably asked someone and they said yes.ok was glad..the menu had said sautéed escargcot and cottage fries...I paid around $27 as a dinner to be picked up..picked up dinner and looked in bag And I had tomatoes (1) and cumber(1)...did they listened to what I asked and was told it's fine...and searching thru bag I also was missing the escarole...which it said on carry out menu that was included in the dinner. .well I went back in and said i am missing the escarole and extra cucumbers ..well anna at the cashier and the manager for the nite as i was told...anna answered to me that the aspargus which was substituted for cottage fries...counted for 2 so since I had the asparagus I would not get the escalope even though it said on menu it came with the dinner...when I first ordered the girl who picks up order never said that ridiculous comment that it's 2 orders for asparagus. The food is very good but the timing and delivery is very slow. We were there for a funeral luncheon in this instance. We sat for a long time before the bread and soup finally arrived. Then we waited even longer for the salad to make an appearance and then finally after another long wait the main course shows up. People assumed it was over because of another long gap in delivery but wait here comes the dessert. Two (2) young teenagers seemed to be doing all the serving and removing of plates. They didn't have the experience to do their jobs correctly as they picked up plates for individuals that weren't done eating yet. There were coffee cups at each table setting but only one table out of ten (10) had pot of fresh coffee. Our coffee never arrived. A mysterious plate of grilled chicken cutlets arrived at our table late after we already had chicken. Nobody ordered it but it just showed up. My wife, 3 year old son and I went tonight for a 6 o clock dinner and let me tell ya it was phenomenal. We ordered a thick crust well done sausage & gardinera which was cooked absolutely perfect , a dozen baked clams which were also delicious and a order of spaghetti & meatballs for my son which he could not get enough of! . This was our first time back in a few years and it could not of been better between our very sweet & attentive waitress, the company and food. We arrived on a busy holiday night, they accommodated our seat request, managed all our orders and special requests with a customer first attitude. Sure it was busy. Sure the staff were juggling a lot of dietary restrictions. But they did it with a good attitude and all the staff were very responsive. Service was quick - no delays except for those items they told us might take extra time - and tables were clean and comfortable. My family of 7 came to Palermo's on June 21st the day before our wedding for a dinner. We're new to the Oak Lawn area and decided to give Palermo's a try since it's a fine dining restaurant, and I was able to make a reservation on OpenTable for our party to arrive around 4 p.m. We were seated almost right away, and they were able to find our reservation. We were having a good time until our server (I cannot remember her name off the top of my head, but she had a ponytail on and her black mask was below her nose the whole time) (1) said they had nothing vegan at the restaurant to accommodate to my now father-in-law's diet, (2) we weren't fully finished with our meal and she insisted that we box up our food (there was no line for a table, and they had a whole section next to us that had no one occupying any of those tables, so I don't know why she was trying to rush us), (3) my now aunt-in-law arrived towards the end of our party, she ordered a gluten free pizza and wasn't given silverware and I remember asking our server nicely if we could keep eating our food since my now aunt-in-law is still waiting on her food, (4) her response was "her food won't be ready, so I'll bring you your box, do you want dessert?," and at this point (5) my now mother-in-law and my parents were all talking about how poorly the service is but we kept our mouth shut because we don't want to be treated differently as a result, and we ordered dessert just so we can buy some time while my aunt-in-law's food arrived. Ultimately, she took a bite and asked for a box since our server didn't seem to want us there and just wants her gratuity. We've decided that the food is good, and we're just not coming back for a dine-in experience because of this server. If we want Palermo's, we're doing carry out exclusively. My dad is on a fixed income, paid for the tab in cash, and ended up letting her keep the change even though there was already an 18% tip on the receipt due to our party size. Here's a message to our server: "we hope you enjoy your tip, we are not going to short you even though you didn't appreciate our business, and thank you for making it difficult for us to enjoy our meal the night before our wedding. Best of luck making more tips if you don't show your guests that they're valued." The way we were treated might be influenced by race because she's not used to serving an interracial couple's family -- Oak Lawn's racial demographic isn't very welcoming to Asian Americans and Black Americans. read more

Entering into an old world ambience, serving authentic Italian dishes, while bustling waitresses moved quickly from table to table, the best bowls of minestrone arrived at our table. The minestrone tasted as if it were slow cooked for hours with depths of flavor soaring throughout. It had a full bodied beefy base that went down too easy and too fast! I will come again just for the soup! The Penne Portobello Mushroom entrée ordered next was simply delicious from the first bite to the last. So balanced, so pleasing to the pallet, obviously curated by a Chef who knows how to blend seasoning and how to compliment the ingredients.
