Found this outfit on Yelp after getting a home improvement guide in the mail. We had some water damage in a deck outside our upstairs master bedroom as well as some dry rot damage to a few beams under our roof. We also needed to have the exterior of the home painted. After posting a request in Yelp for contractors to contact us regarding the issues, Palm Construction contacted us and sent one of their foremen, Sean Bar, to analyze the problems and suggest potential solutions. He was very thorough in his assessment and quoted a fair bid to do the necessary repairs. The Palm construction crew came out within a few days to commence the demolition of the deck. The crew was very thorough and after demolishing the old deck, they started to construct the new deck with waterproofing materials. Once the deck was waterproofed, the final steps in installing a ceramic tile deck was put on hold so that the paint crew could commence water blasting the old paint and get the house ready for painting. The crew also replaced two of the rotted beams before commencing the painting. Once most of the painting was done, the tile was installed on the deck. We were very impressed with the efficient time line for the construction crew and Sean always communicated with us via text or phone to keep us apprised of what the next step in the construction project was. After 4 other quotes, Palm Construction offered the best deal for what we wanted, and even started our project the next day! It was done within the week! The project manager Edan, was very friendly to work with, and was very knowledgeable on the options we had for color and stamping. At the end of the day we got done what we wanted and they even added the border around the patio because I shared I liked that look, as well as a brushed finished look. We also got concrete on the side of the house connecting to the driveway for our garbage cans. All the workers were professional and I observed them making sure everything looked perfect. Din scoped out the project from day 1, making sure that structural, electrical and all other considerations would fulfill both current building code and our checklist of desired elements. Beware! It was an absolute nightmare working with Palm Construction. As many of the negative reviews warned, the promising sales pitch at the beginning is a far cry from what you actually get.  I initially decided to go with Palm Construction to install glass railing in my backyard (very straightforward project, $20K for materials and labor) because most of the yelp reviews seemed positive, but I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews.   The two reps that I met with (the general contractor, Tom, and the project manager, Edan) gave a nice sales pitch and assured me of the following: Speed: - Pitch: They estimated that the project would be finished within 3 weeks. - Reality: It ended up taking 9 weeks (to be fair, 2 of those weeks were due to a change order I requested, but the rest of the delay is on them) Quality & professionalism: - Pitch: The project manager sent me images of their work to show me what to expect and pointed to their Trex Platinum status. - Reality: I later discovered that HE SENT ME STOCK IMAGES from Regal Ideas. Accountability: - Pitch: They assured me that the project manager would be onsite everyday to supervise the work and check on the progress, and that he would be in close communication with the GC. - Reality: Instead, the project manager only showed up 5 times over the 9 weeks (4 of those times were to collect paychecks) and I never heard from the GC after our first meeting. Here are just a few of the issues that occurred (most of these were eventually addressed, but 1) it was like pulling teeth to get them to acknowledge and correct these issues, and 2) it really should have been the GC / project manager's responsibility to catch these issues, not my responsibility): - Wobbly railing (this was a major issue, as there were about 4 inches of sway in several spots before they eventually agreed to replace the initial screws with larger concrete screws) - Shoddy rubber installation for railing seams (they blamed this on damaged materials, but if the materials arrived damaged, why did they install these?) - Shoddy artificial turf re-installation (they pulled up turf for part of the install, but didn't reinstall it correctly as it was uneven in several spots and most of the turf nails were clearly visible) - Spilled paint, debris, and concrete on artificial turf (if you're going to be doing construction near turf, you should put down plastic sheeting to prevent getting the turf dirty) - Wrong post used for one of the end posts (different style and color, which doesn't match with the rest of the install) Mistakes happen - I get it. However, normally the GC / project manager should be on site to catch and correct mistakes. Since the project manager rarely showed up, there was no quality control and I ended up being the one to catch every mistake and supervise the work. If I wanted to act as the project manager / foreman for this project, I wouldn't have hired a general contractor.  Looking back, there were a number of red flags that should have tipped me off during our first meeting, but I was eager to get the project finished and didn't vet them as closely as I should have. 1) During our first meeting, I really only wanted an estimate. Instead, they used (what I later realized to be) high pressure sales tactics to get me to a sign a contract there and then. For example. bringing two people for the estimate instead of one (2 vs 1). Talking to their supervisor on the phone to get me "special pricing" but only if I signed today. Straight up lies about what to expect from working with them. 2) Pressured me into signing a long contract (after a long 2 hour meeting which I kept trying to cut short) and paying for 60% of the total project cost upfront before any work was completed (they told me this was industry standard - it's not).  3) When I asked about a few negative reviews I saw on their yelp page, they assured me that the negative reviews were just from "crazy people" and they would be happy to fix any issues that arose. I was naïve to believe this. While they did eventually fix issues that arose, like I mentioned, it was like pulling teeth to get them to acknowledge and correct these.  Learn from my mistake. We found Palm Construction on Angi's List and Ben came to our home, gave us an estimate and we could not be more happier with his professionalism, knowledge, and honesty regarding what needed to be done. The estimate was fair and competitive. The contractors dispatched to work on the job were extremely competent, courteous, and willing to do whatever it took to do the job right. WARNING to anyone considering using Palm Construction It's been over a year now and I am still dealing with the Palm Construction nightmare. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CONTRACTORS STATE LICENSE BOARD (CSLB) REGARDING PALM CONSTRUCTION. THE INVESTIGATOR FOUND PALM CONSTRUCTION BROKE MULTIPLE LAWS LEADING TO VIOLATIONS in just the short time I worked with Palm Construction before firing them. Palm Construction sent in cheap and unqualified labor to demo a kitchen and 2 bathrooms without proper permits. Palm Construction also works with Mosaic Loan Company and entices you with a starting one year interest free loan but even reading the paperwork we didn't see that Palm Construction could take money from the Loan anytime they wanted and Palm Construction pulled 35k from the mosaic loan that I am now on the hook for! DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU SIGN A CONTRACT!!! We had an old original kitchen and we interviewed about 5 different companies, Omir and Simon really make us feel comfortable with their process of design, found the fixtures tile and etc together with remodeling permits and installation. The presentation was detailed and my and my wife felt that the biggest one thing we connected with was the way they understood what we looking for other then just a kitchen. This is my second property and I've been working with several companies before, some good some not so much and i also had some bad experiences, im working from home and im well aware to what going on in my house, Other then noisy removal and a lot of food deliveries we really didn't felt this job, material been selected by us, from there some questions came up with the tile and lighting and we got it pretty quick 5 and half weeks from start to finish, Good communication and most of it just automatically happen. We sought three bids for exterior painting, replacement of facia/trim and replacement/repair of four leaking windows for our 4-bedroom, 3,100sf home. Roni was our primary sales contact and Gabriel was quality control (inspector). Palm was not the lowest cost bid, but they were most thorough explaining scope of work and each step of the project. Be careful as we had other bids where the contractor did not use its own employees and planned to cut corners in the process. The initial team of 4-5 showed up immediately the next day. Their work was professional and Gabe arrived every other day in the afternoon to check on work status and check-in with my wife and me. They pulled the leaking windows and identified now flashing by prior window installer. This was remedied and they reapplied stucco matching the look of current stucco. After window repairs, they primed the house, then applied two coats of Kelly Moore paint (others might use Behr or a cheaper paint). Also, other contractors said we did not need to prime before paint. The house looks great. Very detail oriented. Already, we have received positive reviews from our neighbors. Project managers touched base MAYBE every 3-4 days, but were mostly absent all the time, and none of the workers spoke any English. They did a kitchen and a partial bathroom reno; the countertops, tiles and the floor are OK - so that's the extra point - but they left TWO water leaks in the kitchen, installed the sliding door track in the bathroom inside-out (so the decorative side is in fact inside, over the tub), regularly forgot to buy the supplies they needed, and their pricing is anything but competitive. Professional, honest, straightforward meeting for the construction of our deck on a steep hillside whose workers knew exactly what they were doing, and did everything to code. I didn't have to worry that their job was sloppy or not done well. PALM is a trustworthy company and we could not be happier with the results. We had the foundation built under the deck by them, and then they used TREX surface and railings to complete. When we had questions, the foreman was responsive to our needs, so we were never left in the dark. They also made the entire job easy for us as homeowners, as they picked up the TREX that we chose, the railings that we chose, and we didn't need to "run around" looking at everything, as they brought the samples to us! Palm Construction was great, especially our project manager Simon Ben! He was honest, clear in his communication, easy to get ahold of by phone or text, and timely in his responses to me. We had all the old, cracked concrete in our backyard and down both sides of the house to the fence line replaced with pavers. Simon was very involved with the process which I really appreciated, he brought samples in person to me once I thought I knew the color so I could look at them in my yard and against the house instead of imagining it. Once the project got started he visited our backyard and connected with my spouse at the right frequency I felt like, and I like a lot of interaction. Some examples of what we would do when he came over: 1. He would take us around the yard and ask questions to double check how we wanted things. For example, deciding on how to finish the edge of the deck that was previously hidden was more difficult than I thought and the deck color we have was no longer made. We changed our mind a couple times before deciding on half old boards we found from the previous owners and half new lattice. 2. Ask our opinion when there were options on how to arrange the tiles or what to cut where. For example, do we want the pavers straight with the house or straight with the fence - because they're not parallel. 3. He would point out little areas that didn't look perfect during the process but explained how it would be ok at the end. I was surprised by how many tiny imperfections with the stones totally disappeared once the sand went in-between them. 4. Give me an update on when I can expect the various stages of work to go and update on the expected project end date. There were a couple things that caused us to run past the original completion date but I understood and saw it coming early in the process when one of the phases wasn't totally on time. But all said and done and we were only a few days past the first end date. Of course there were hiccups during the process, I won't say everything was always perfect. Originally the pavers around the backside of the grass were placed too far out so there was an empty gap between the pavers and the fake lawn and portions of the lawn sat lower than the pavers resulting in a real tripping hazard when walking off the grass. Simon was always easy to get ahold of and when I brought up the issues he immediately told me "it will be fixed, you will be happy" which helped me relax. He was right and the very next day it was fixed, even though it required the pavers to be broken out of the setting cement on the back of the grass and placed in their new spot. I expect hiccups in construction and the only thing that really matters is how they are handled and resolved, there was never any push back or arguing, it was just taken care of perfectly. I am looking forward to saving up for another project and I will be using Simon and Palm Construction again without hesitation. read more

I would like to convey my satisfaction and appreciation toward Roni and his crew from Palm Construction. First I want to say this is an honest, 100% truthful, review. I was not asked by anyone to do it and not compensated in any way for it. Briefly the home I share with my friend (homeowner) needed repair work done on what I'll describe as a chimney covered in t1-11 siding. The damage was caused by dry rot and termites. Roni gave his word the chimney would be restored to as good as new condition and it looks better than new. - We were assured quality work, we received quality work. - The work was completed in four business days. The work commenced the day after Roni came by and a deal was struck. - We were assured the job site would be cleaned to broom swept condition with all debris and trash removed and that is what we got - I talked to Roni one on one and wanted assurance regarding certain steps I wanted taken and Roni listened to me, said his guys would perform the work as requested, and his crew followed through. - Roni came by several times to oversee his guys and I greatly appreciated that. Palm construction also sent a quality control person several times and I personally heard the crew giving him a detailed, accurate accounting of what they had done. - The work and price agreed upon was for the chimney, Roni offered to provide more service (dry rot damage on the other side of the house, a busted fence post and leaking pipe underground) for the same original price. His crew did all the those extra jobs and the quality of the work they did was contractor grade, it could not have been done any better to my knowledge. - I can not vouch for anyone except Roni, he proved to be a man of integrity and every promise he made he kept. There were no hassles, no delays, no problems or issues, no hidden charges, and I observed a high level of competence and professionalism from Roni and his crew from start to finish. We needed quality work done quickly, Roni needed fair compensation. Avoid. We were recently retrofitting 8 windows and a garden door (standard Milgard stuff) and requested multiple quotes as usual. Out of four quotes total, three were in the same ballpark, 10-15k range, but for the same work Palm Construction was asking north of 30k. Their sales and representatives were also incredibly pushy, kept calling from multiple numbers for days. read more

During the very wet Winter, the roof of our deck leaked every time it rained. We called Palm Construction and the team were very responsive. Several members of the team checked the roof repeatedly and tried to seal the leaks. Unfortunately, our deck roof continued to leak every time it rained. Either there is something wrong with the material used or the craftsmanship. We were led to believe that the material was leak-proof. We are disappointed. The team did try to figure what was wrong but was unsuccessful. Now we have to move outdoor furniture during the Winter and we have to deal with water stains on the deck. For this reason, I've had to change my 5-star review to three stars, only for the effort of the team not the end result. read more

Disappointing experience... a very sloppy job throughout, but especially after they received most of the payment. The railings were not even and not straight, the concrete was uneven and stained. They acknowledged but were unable to fix it. I guess it's your problem after the payment. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

ZERO STARS. Warning - this company is a SCAM. Their project manager SEAN is a douchebag. He made passes at my sister and he had the audacity to blame me for a shower head his hired non-licensed contractors did not install correctly. I barely touched it, and it fell. The first time I met him, he came in and pointed his finger at me and said, "You broke it!" Who does that?!?? This company has no professionalism at all. They are sexual harassers and douche bags. BEWARE!!!!! They also: - don't know how to paint. We had to tell them that you have to patch up holes first before you paint because they obviously did not. The unevenness in the walls was so noticeable. Some parts of it looked matte while others looked glossy. Really poor workmanship. - installed the entire kitchen crooked and claimed it looked nice!
