We frequently need garage door repairs/replacement for our clients, in addition to the needs of our own homes. We've used Palm Valley Garage Doors with 100% satisfaction, to repair or replace over a dozen garage doors associated with our business, in the past couple of years alone. This morning, we had an issue in our own home that confirmed for us that Dave @ Palm Valley Garage Doors is our go-to guy. A tension spring broke, and our garage door wouldn't open. The home warranty company mistakenly sent a rep from Precision. (They won't be doing so again!) Josh from Precision inspected the garage door and stated that, in addition to the obviously broken tension spring, the garage door itself was "punched out" in several places, damaged irreparably, and must be replaced. He gave us an estimate for $2200... to replace a standard garage door. (We've never spent more than $800 to replace like, kind and quality garage doors with Palm Valley Garage Doors.) Josh's tone and attitude from the outset was condescending, insulting and rude. He stated in a remarkably accusatory tone, that the tension spring broke because the garage door hadn't been properly maintained. (Wrong- it HAS been maintained and we have the records!) He further insisted that the garage door itself was damaged beyond repair... "punched out" in several places, and absolutely must be replaced. I saw no physical damage. As a residential insurance adjuster, I'm reasonably able to identify physical damage. I asked Josh to point out the damage to which he was referring. He stated that it was on the exterior of the garage door, but refused to accompany me outside to physically show me what he was referring to. His attitude grew worse when I advised him that I'm a residential insurance adjuster & requested that he show me the damage he was claiming. He blustered and became defensive, but was unable or unwilling to simply point to the damage he was claiming rendered our garage door inoperable. The simple fact is, there was no damage to the garage door. He knew it. I knew it. He had mistakenly assumed a female homeowner wouldn't know any better. I later learned from a local handyman who previously worked for Precision, that their technicians earn a hefty 30% commission on every garage door they 'upsell' in the field, and are encouraged by management to sell garage doors, whether needed or not. That 30% commission explains why Precision hangs a $2200 price tag on a door that retails $800/installed from any other company! We advised Josh that we'd pay for the service call but we were not interested in doing business with Precision. Twenty minutes later, Dave from Palm Valley Garage Doors came to the rescue! Dave repaired our garage door in less than an hour, for $168 and change. He also confirmed that there was absolutely no physical damage to the garage door itself; only to the hardware, which he easily and inexpensively replaced. Our garage door is now operating perfectly. If you want to be sold a bill of goods by a technician who gets a 30% commission on every garage door he upsells in the field, needed or not, by all means- call Precision Garage Doors. Dave, the owner of Palm Valley Garage Doors, recently came to my rescue when our garage door opener died, with no emergency release cord attached. In a panic, I called his number at 5:00 a.m. (believing I'd get an answering machine, at that hour), waking him on a Saturday morning...yikes!! He was kind, understanding and helpful, arriving at our home promptly when he said he would 2 hours later. He was able to locate the emergency release and gave me several options and quotes for rectifying my situation. We went to dinner on Friday evening and when we returned the garage door wouldn't open. It was a little late but I needed to find a well recommended company to come out to fix it Saturday morning. I scanned Yelp and found Palm Valley Garage Door and it had wonderful reviews and a 5 star rating. I called and it was after 9:30 pm. Dave answered and we set up a window of time for Saturday morning. Dave arrived at the front of the time window and quickly began repairs. I had told him that the spring had broken. He recommended that we replace the old single spring system with two springs. He was so quick and as we were discussing the condition of my door I asked him if he had a way to make it a little quieter. Since it is 17 years old I guessed the answer would be to replace it. He said I can replace the rollers and lube the drive. He had the parts on his truck and had them replaced within 10 minutes. He lubed the drive system and was gone within half an hour. My new opener is good after a month, but there were definitely some annoying issues. Dave or David (I think there's only 2 people in this company) answers the phone with a gruff greeting of "garage doors" which through me off because normally a business would say their full business name and something like "how can I help you?" or "Hi, my name is Dave." Dave or David replaced my opener on the second trip after a quick fix failed shortly after he left the first time. I appreciated the attempt though. Then there was some communication difficulties with explaining to me what the various openers were which frustrated me a bit. After the new opener was installed, about 3 weeks later my other garage door opener sensor failed so I called Dave and it went to voicemail and I left a message to call me. After no return call 5 days later I called again and spoke to Dave. I asked if he kept my old sensors and he said no, they are thrown away. He did say he would sell me a new set for $59 though. I asked about the wall keypad and again he said they get thrown away too. Another $35 or so for a new one. Why would they not at least ask the customer if they wanted to keep these items? Seems like bad customer service. I won't recommend them. Hopefully my new opener lasts as long as my old one. read more
