My dog passed on the 6th of June suddenly. He passed on Saturday evening. I called Small Paws Cremations on Sunday morning and spoke to Antonio Nevarez. He came to pickup my dog within 3 hours. He was very respectful when he arrived. He explained the pricing to me and then after I accepted, he picked up my dog and took him to have him to be cremated. He returned my dog to me within three weeks with the box picture and things I had ordered. The prices are very reasonable. I wouldn't refer this company to anyone who has one of having their animal cremated. This company was a pleasure to do business with. read more

This is crazy that I even have to take time out of my grieving process to write about this shitty human. BEYOND rude and unprofessional. I am in true disbelief that ROMO, the business owner, could be so uncompassionate and unsympathetic during this awful and devastating time in my life. My beloved cat passed away and I am doing diligent research as to where the best place would be for him to transition into his next journey. I found this highly rated business on Yelp. I now suspect, especially because it even suggests on their page that you should "mention Yelp" when calling, that these reviews must not be fully genuine, because ROMO certainly is not. Despite how much he tries to fabricate this through his responses to clients' reviews. I called to inquire about pricing and whether he offers aquacremation (alkaline hydrolysis), which he said he does only through the services of HONOR PET (an actually compassionate business I fully endorse), but he has been "doing fire for many years." Right off the bat, this dude is just... rough around the edges and cold as hell. Midway through our conversation, I was trying to figure out if it was counterproductive to drop my cat off in Van Nuys if he was just gonna bring him back to L.A. to Honor Pet, should I go with aqua cremation. It went something like this: Me: So, I know you're in Van Nuys and since I wanted to drop my cat off, I'm just curious... since I'm based in L.A.-- Romo: --JUST ASK YOUR QUESTION. Literally just like that, completely rudely cuts me off mid sentence. This was kinda the last straw but even before this happened, our conversation was riddled with rude interruptions " -- BEFORE YOU SPEAK, blah blah blah" all throughout. This guy honestly loves to hear himself talk and hates to listen. THEN. The cherry on top. Dude goes on to asking me if I know anything about aquacremation, and at this point I'm already fed up but tell him I at least "know we get 20% more of the cremains." He then explains how aquacremation works and says something along the lines of how it's essentially "high pressure hydro blasting flesh off their bodies" and "so a lot of people choose fire for religious purposes" and what not. He was clearly skewing and demonizing aquacremation even though it's a gentler process most similar to natural decomposition and ultimately much better for the planet. Could this be because he's used to "doing fire for many years" and is threatened by this new method becoming increasingly popular? Possibly eventually making his business model obsolete? Not sure, but what a disrespectful fucking douchebag. Why would I EVER put my deceased loved one into the hands of someone like this??? The thought alone gives me the creeps. How could I ever trust someone that lacks such severe empathy to humanely treat the love of my life, my late soul cat, with dignity and respect? Anyone who was considering this place should strongly reconsider and understand my rationale. There are so many other places that offer his services, with sincerely kind humans that actually deserve your money. Not this place. When I called him back 20 minutes later to confront him about his unacceptable behavior, because it really rubbed me the wrong way, he initially answered the phone with "uh I think I remember you, yeah I talked to like 7 other people right after you blah blah." As someone who always has multiple dogs, (always 2+) that also means I've dealt with loss multiple times. I'm blessed that the dogs I adopt lead long wonderful lives but it's never easy when they pass. My 16.5 year old Lennox passed peacefully at home on Feb 12. I've gone with other private cremation providers before but because he passed in the evening 8:30 pm that meant I had to wait until the morning to find a cremation place to pick him up. The only place I found that was open very early was Small Paws and I saw that they were located relatively close to me. I called and Romo answered and he was able to pick up my Lenny within a couple hours. Romo was friendly, answered all of my questions and was very knowledgeable and took his time. He was gentle with Lenny and I can tell that he does this because he truly wants to provide a good option for pet parents for cremation services. He was communicative and when I received Lennox back a few weeks later, what I received exceeded my expectations. The care, the detail, everything was executed properly. I really felt like he returned my baby with dignity and I was glad to have him home. The artwork from Ariel, the remembrance artist was so beautiful, I can't wait to frame it.
