Palmer Place honestly had one of the coolest atmospheres. The wooden interior and all the decor made me feel like I was inside some pub back in Ireland. Really relaxed place overall. They have an outdoor patio, and since the weather was nice we took advantage of it and sat outside. Perfect day to just slow down and enjoy the weather. The staff were super nice too and everything felt easygoing from the start. I ordered the Bourbon Glazed Steak Skewers with wheatberry rice and homemade potato salad. When the food came out the first thing I noticed was how tender the steak looked. First bite confirmed it. The meat was juicy, soft, and had this smoky char flavor from the grill mixed with the sweetness from the bourbon glaze. The glaze itself was really good too. It had that sticky caramelized flavor with a little savory kick behind it, so every bite was a balance of smoky, sweet, and salty all together. The peppers and onions added a nice freshness too. Honestly the rice and potato salad were both bombsas well. The potato salad especially tasted homemade in the best way. Creamy, flavorful, and perfect with the steak skewers. I am on vacation and this location was suggested to meet friends. The restaurant is in a very cute neighborhood. We had a wonderful time. The appetizers very fabulous! Toasted ravioli, pretzel bites, and bacon wrapped dates. For lunch we had three cheese with mushroom cheeseburgers.. cooked the way we requested and very tasty. They are known for their potato salad. One of us had the chili and he thought it was very tasty. We had a wonderful server. Can't remember her name, but she works on the weekends to help out. She deserves a huge pat on the back. Great! Checked out this long time popular place in LaGrange. It sure isn't bad, but it's not quite as great as many people say. Palmer Place is kind of just there. Many places along the street to go to, any many that are better. The prices are kind of high, which just makes things even worse. At dinner is when things pick up here. It has a pretty nice patio. This is where to sit when it's warmer. Good drinks if only overpriced of course. It's about $10 for a basic cocktail, as in whatever and Coke so fuck this. A good one is the Cucumber Mule. This is made with Ketel One Cucumber Mint Vodka. Best thing on the menu maybe. For sure among the best drink prices. As for the food, also expensive. Though it's also not as good as it was. It's about $9 for the Warm Pretzel Bites. Seems like these are from a box and microwaved. Has been known for their burgers. They recently got rid of all the gourmet ones, but not the gourmet prices. Basically we tried to spend as little as possible here. The drinks and pretzels were okay except for prices. Heard it used to be good but it's not the same anymore. Palmer Place has a wide variety of appetizers and entrees. We went with the fish & chips and a couple of burgers (I believe it was the Mexicali and Texas BBQ from the pictures) and were satisfied by the flavor of everything. Their fish & chips were perfectly crispy with a large enough portion size. The staff was friendly and although they forgot a side of sauce, they were happy to fix the mistake. We sat around for about 15 minutes with empty plates before we asked for the check so if you need something, just ask. TVs were displaying live games all around the restaurant and there was an outdoor covered dining area in the back with a stage so we'll have to come back when they have live performances. Not really sure why this place has so many bad reviews. The service was great. They were very friendly ad welcoming. The entrance was a little odd as there wasn't anyone to greet you at the entrance. I kind of had to move my around to find the host stand. But once I figured all that out, we were seated immediately. I did receive a free appetizer with my yelp check in up to $8 which was pretty cool. We started off with their Palmers Spinach Artichoke Dip. It was creamy and very cheesy. They put Romano and white cheddar cheese and served with wam grilled pita bread. The pita bread was little soft and would have preferred more of a baked pita bread for that extra crispiness to go with the creaminess, but it was still very tasty. My wife ordered their Reggae Burger. A half pounder with Jamaican jerk spices and a jerk glaze with Monterey Jack cheese and topped with a pineapple mango salsa. It's sound and tasty amazing. My son ordered their kids cheeseburger and I their Inferno Burger since I love spicy food. A very simple burger with very few ingredients. The burger is coated with inferno sauces and then topped with a ghost pepper cheese served with an inferno salsa on the side. It was tasty and did come packed with the some heat. Please do not patronize Palmer Place! The food is terrible! There's no doubt that Palmer Place has been an institution of Lagrange for 20+ years, but my God, why?!? What are its redeeming characteristics that keep this place in business?!? Ownership changed hands two years ago. With that change of ownership, we had expected to see some improvements. In fact, it's the same, grubby, uninspired, bland, lackluster, restaurant, we have known for all of these years. The only reason we go to Palmer Place is because our kids' swim team might choose it as a gathering spot after a swim meet, or a group from the parent association might decide to meet there after one of their meetings. It's never, ever voluntary on our part! We never go there, expecting a great meal, or on some special occasion. If friends, neighbors, or passerby, continue to patronize this place, it will never get better. The owners need to understand that their food deserves the worst rating possible. It's my hope that if we send this message, if people stop patronizing this restaurant, that the owners will put in the necessary hard work to improve the menu, replace the current cooks, and turn it into a place that people actually want to visit. There are so many better options in the La Grange area. Don't waste your money on Palmer Place. Now, for some specifics... This evening we ordered a Reuben sandwich to-go for one of our swimmers who was home and did not want to come out to Palmer Place with the rest of the team. When we open up the container, this looks nothing like a Reuben sandwich. As you will see in the picture below, the bread is toasted in such a strange way to make it as unappealing as possible. The corned beef was tough and full of gristle. The sweet potatoes fries were bland to the point of being almost flavorless. I had the Mexicali burger, which was topped with the perfect amount of jalapeño guacamole, and pico de Gallo. What happened Palmers? I have been coming here for years, like maybe 10+ years and this last time it fell way short. It was a group of 4 that came here for dinner, we started out with the spinach artichoke and then all ordered sandwiches. The appetizer was kind of just bland, the pita bread was maybe the best part. Two of us got the Southwest Chicken Wrap and neither of us could finish it, not because it was too much food, more like it didn't have a good flavor. It was something that could easily be made at home and didn't have much flavor to it. The pico de gallo was very bland and the cheese didn't taste right, maybe a little stale? The guacamole was blad as well. The patio area is always nice and the parking is never really an issue, there is also a decent beer selection, that's about all that is good here. The menu is huge, specifically the burger section which may seem like a great variety but now that I think more about it, it's maybe too large of a menu. This area has some newer restaurants and I would suggest giving them a try. read more
