I normally spit an app and take home half my entree. It was a girls night, and my friend eats like a bird. While I appreciate the generous portion sizes, we were struggling to finish our portions. We shared our food, and ordered 6 dishes total as required. What got me was the gochujang bologenese. I lived in Korea, cook korean food regularly and loved gochujang. My family immigrated from Italy and I make fresh pasta and bolognaese on the regular. Seemed to me the two n'ere shall meet. My friend wanted to try this dish. I was vehemently opposed. The waiter came and specifically recommended it (perhaps becuase he was seeking to get rid of extra portions?). It was revolting. It tasted EXACTLY like i thought it would taste. The fresh pasta was good. The gochujang was high quality. It was gross and a bad combination. I seriously question if the waiter was trying to get rid of a poor seller. I cook both these cuisines on a weekly basis and they are some of my comfort dishes. You should not put gochujang on fresh pasta with nothing else. Maybe fresh rice cakes but I would add a few more ingredients, but fresh pasta shudder... The 6% service fee plus the whole pre fixe thing felt like a money grab. Wow this place is a must try for anyone in Boston looking for food that's as delicious as it is unique. My boyfriend and I came here for an early Valentine's Day dinner and it was hands down one of the best dinning experiences I have had in Boston. The decor is really cozy and has a great feel for a date or girls night. The service was also excellent and went above and beyond to make sure we had a good experience. Had a great experience at Pammy's for my birthday! Think: florals, cozy leather booths and wood tables, and natural lighting. Our server was extremely nice and friendly, making sure to accommodate allergies and giving us refills of bread while we waited for our dishes. Between the 2 of us, we tried 6 dishes total: Tuna crudo - very high quality fish and the citrus it was served with was a nice, refreshing touch. The cured meat on top (speck) didn't really add anything though. Rainbow carrots - both of ours' favorite dish. Very flavorful and had a unique texture of crispy silken tofu. Octopus - hands-down the best octopus I've ever had. Just so savory and flavorful. Skate wing - extremely tender with a rich, umami flavor. I wish the couscous on the side had been more flavorful too. Celery root gnocchi - solid but did not blow us away. Had a refreshing but not overly oily bit of spicyness added to the sauce, which added flavor but wasn't too much for someone bad at handling spice. Only had 8 pieces though, which was much less than the other pasta dishes we saw being served around us. Veal loin - tenderly cooked, but not very flavorful. The highlight of this dish were the potatoes that were very flavorful and well-textured: crispy on the outside and decadently soft on the inside. Overall, I would recommend this place for the ambiance, the service, and some really tasty, unique dishes. Just go in knowing that the portion sizes are quite small (even compared to similar dining experiences) for $79 per person with 3 dishes each. The experience we had here wasn't terrible, but it left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. I dined here for New Years Eve, which happens to be my birthday. The service was mostly good aside from one small communication issue, even if it was slow. We had a lot of time in between courses and ended up there for longer than we intended, 2.5 hours in total. I ordered a drink with a bourbon I liked, which I saw sitting on the back of the bar. The server returned and let me know they didn't have that bourbon. I said okay because I was too uncomfortable to argue, and she offered me another bourbon that I liked. I asked what a pour would cost to ensure the markup at the restaurant wasn't excessive, as it was a nicer option, and she didn't know. I said that was okay and that I decided I would just have the drink with that bourbon anyway, regardless of the cost, as it was my birthday and I wanted to treat myself. She was surprised, said she'd keep it in mind that it was my birthday, and that she'd go take care of the drink order. When she returned, it was with a drink made from a third bourbon that I didn't ask for or agree to. I was disappointed I didn't get the liquor that I chose and was excited to treat myself with. I'm not sure why the order was changed when I mentioned it was my birthday, as nothing on the final bill was discounted in any way (not that it should have been, I was just confused by what happened with my drink order). Unfortunately I also did not enjoy the flavors the bourbon contributed to the final drink. The food was good. Nothing was bad or unpleasant, and clear effort was put into the recipes and presentation. The only stand outs were the brussels sprouts and the milanese. Everything else was okay or good. The cavatappi with romesco was not to my taste, but just because the romesco sauces I have had before had a little more acidity. Others might enjoy it more. Dessert (not included) was good, I liked my affogato. This review is specifically for New Year's Eve. Any restaurant professional would know that by creating a booked, pre-paid, significantly higher-priced holiday event, they are creating additional expectations. These expectations are the precise reason someone would be more than willing to pay $150 to dine somewhere which costs $88 any other night. Pammy's had no intention of providing a unique experience or meeting those expectations in exchange for the higher price paid, and setting your guests up with expectations you will never meet is going to leave them feeling unsatisfied. I know that it's on me, the customer, to understand exactly what I'm paying for/signing up for when I make a prepaid reservation at a restaurant with a $50 per-person cancellation fee. But I would never have anticipated that a highly regarded restaurant like Pammy's would present a special holiday event for a 70% upcharge which offers next to nothing additional or unique. I did try my best to look for information on the NYE menu and event on Pammy's website and the OpenTable listing, however, the information provided was minimal and vague. As someone who was really excited for a special menu/experience, after paying an additional $120 for the same 3 plate prix fixe menu they serve every day, I walked out feeling taken advantage of. Actually, one of the nicer dishes was missing from the menu entirely. There was one NYE special, an optional upgrade to the pasta course for an additional 75 dollars, and we got one complimentary splash of champagne (every restaurant that serves wine does this on NYE). As a business, you have every right to price your food and experience however you want. In retrospect, however, this feels like it was an intentional trick. Holiday and birthday aside, it would be insane and egregious to charge that much for food and service of the quality we experienced. I would never have considered dining at Pammy's if this menu and this pricing were more clearly presented. I would have dined somewhere with a more appealing menu for a similar price, or somewhere with similar offerings and better execution for hundreds of dollars less. The experience we had didn't measure up to competition in the $200 dollar range, forget the nearly $500 dollars our check totalled with gratuity, tax, and kitchen fees tacked on. The local offerings you could enjoy at that price for 2 people would figuratively laugh Pammy's menu out of the room. I don't think that the management here actually believed that people would happily pay $150 for their regular 3 course menu. i think they kept it vague intentionally and hoped most people wouldn't notice, and I think they were perfectly okay with those who did notice having a negative experience so long as they paid their bill at the end. This destroyed any respect I have for this establishment along with any desire to ever return. I've always wanted to come to Pammy's and have heard great things so I finally made the reservation a month in advance and waited for the day. I'm so glad I did because this was hands down the best restaurant I've been to in Boston. I went with a friend and we were sat at the communal table in the middle. Although I thought it might be weird, the table was large and had enough space in between each party to feel like you weren't eating with others. The space is quite cozy and people were constantly squeezing past us to get to other tables. Service was top notch. I believe our server's name was Michelle. She was so charismatic and personable throughout the whole meal. She was very attentive, constantly filling our water, checking in how we liked each dish, giving us new utensils in between every few dishes. As for the food, every dish was great! We started with complimentary bread. It was so soft on the inside, the outside was crispy but very salty. We got 3 cocktails and they were all good. The espresso martini was the best I've had in Boston with fresh espresso. Octopus (Pork Rillon, Pickled Baby Beet, Vadouvan Zabaglione) - The octopus was cripsy on the outside but perfectly firm on the inside. Favors of the beets and pork with the octopus was so good! Squid Ink Gnocchi (Lobster, Sugo Fresco, Furikake) The texture was perfect and the pieces of lobster was large! Lumache (Bolognese Sauce, Gochujang) Our favorite dish! The pasta was incredible and the sauce had a slight spice to it! Mafaldine (Honeycomb Tripe, Chili Garlic Oil, Labneh) Our server informed us that tripe is cow stomach lining since we thought it was fish. Very good, a little too spicy but the labneh cut out some of the spiciness Blackfish (Baby Artichoke, Oro Blanco) Our least favorite dish but still very good! Just more plain than the rest. Lamb Saddle (Polenta, Radish) perfect ending, good portion of lamb, the polenta was very smooth, and the radish was shredded which was a nice change! On our first visit to Boston, my husband and I walked past Pammy's, which had no signage except the posted menu and the line of people waiting outside. I looked it up afterwards and bookmarked it as a special occasion place to try. We finally went for my husband's birthday and everything from the food* to the service was top-notch. I'll even go as far as saying the pasta dishes rival the best of NYC (Rezdora, Via Carota, etc.). We stuck to the pastas/proteins on the menu, thinking that would be the best bang for our buck. Here were my favorites: 1. Lumache: Loved the unique blend of bolognese and gojuchang. I had seen this dish posted a lot in the reviews/the waitress mentioned to the table next to us that this was one of their most popular choices, for good reason! It was so good that I didn't want to share. 2. Duck: I love duck but I don't see it featured as heavily on menus. Again, the combo of ingredients was something I'd never think to try on my own but worked fantastically well - cream of wheat, sunflower seed pesto, and dried strawberries. 3. Spaghetti: How did they get the heirloom tomatoes so soft and delicately sweet? I liked the burst of saltiness and the crunch from the roe. Spaghetti itself was cooked perfectly. My husband's favorites: the culurgione (a potato/cheese-based pasta that reminded me of fried dumplings) and the beef tenderloin. We got the "cheesecake" (their quotes, not mine), which was a fresh, not-to-sweet way of ending the meal. Our server, Michelle, was excellent, constantly stopping by to see how we were doing, how we liked everything, refilling waters. *I will say though that the food was extremely salty. For someone with a sensitivity to sodium, I had to get up a few times that night to guzzle water. But it was all worth it! Wanted to love this place given how popular it is with friends, but it just didn't hit the spot for me. Service: First and foremost, service was great, no complaints there. Ambience: We were seated at the communal table in the middle which I like the concept of, however the chairs were a bit too close together where I was constantly getting bumped from behind despite moving several times. Food: Lumache 7/10- good bite but the sauce wasn't it for me. Was very curious to try the gochujang but it didn't quite blend in the ways I had hoped. Mafaldine 6/10- my favorite pasta shape but not much flavor besides some chili here and there. Branzino 8/10- this came steamed which was unexpected but was pretty good. The turnip cake was great. Coppa 8/10- slightly fattier than I prefer but that's just personal preference. Skate wing 7.5/10 I'll be honest I didn't realize we were eating sting ray until I noticed the difference in muscle fiber when poking at it. Took some mental adjustment, and a tad bit on the salty side but worth venturing out of the comfort zone. Overall I would still encourage folks to try. Perfect for a date night! I came here for an anniversary dinner and we had a great experience. Our server was incredibly prompt and helpful, which made it easy to enjoy the night. Even though we don't often drink wine, we decided to add the wine pairing to our dinner which was definitely the right decision. All of our dishes were unique and tasty, but my favorite was by far the buckwheat crepe with corn, cheese, and honey in it! Went here for a birthday dinner on a reservation, which is only for the prix fixe communal table. If you come on a weeknight, you probably don't need a reservation, since we saw some empty tables. You can get 3 dishes per person off the menu and they don't restrict you (you could get all entrees or all starters if you wanted). The ambiance is pretty nice and the place is obviously very popular. Sitting at the prix fixe menu felt a bit like sitting at a wedding reception. Service was attentive although the speed at which the food came out was middling. I had a Persephone for a drink, which is non-alcoholic, and it was delicious. It was sweet but subtle, and the ginger note was really nice. The house bread is delicious and probably one of the best parts of the meal, tbh. For food, we got the red crab, steak tartare, cauliflower tortelloni, lumache, rainbow trout, and poussin. I think my favorite was the red crab followed by the steak tartare. My husband's favorite was the steak tartare. The pasta was decent but we probably wouldn't get it again--I think there are better pasta places elsewhere. The rainbow trout dish tasted a bit off, just slightly musty but I don't know if that was a one-off. The poussin was okay, pretty tender but a lot of the dishes were just a tad bit too salty for my taste, but I fully acknowledge that my "too salty" can be another person's "perfectly seasoned." I think the starters and bread were the best, and the pasta and entrees were fine but not anything to write home about. They don't do anything special for birthday people, in case you were wondering (which worked fine for my introverted husband, who hates being the center of attention). We had a beautiful and fun dinner at Pammy's in Cambridge last night. It was the best of "fussy not fussy". The menu was intriguing but a bit pretentious to the point where I was Gemini -ing some of the descriptors. But that is where the pretentiousness ended. We choose to walk in at 5, as we were going across the river to see Herb Alpert after dinner. We arrived about 2 minutes before 5, the door was locked. But at 5 pm, a line almost instantly sprung up behind us. We were greeted with genuine warmth and after taking our seat in the lounge, we proceeded to watch the entire bar and lounge fill up. The bar and lounge area has a social vibe. The restauant only offers a three course set price menu but you can order ala carte in the lounge and the bar. It was fun to see couples, small groups and a family with two young babies eating and laughing. This was great... Seated next to us were three young teenage girls. They were sipping mocktails, dipping the incredible house bread in oil, and were receiving sweet attention from the service staff. Of course I had to ask even though I knew I knew. Yep. It was the owners daughter and two friends. This took me right back to how we raised our fabulous kids in our restaurant as well. Cute. Heartwarming. So here is a rundown of our dinner. First. Two plates. Raw cobia in a gorgeous warm dashi a dab of Kosho made with fermented Buddha's hand citrus And.. Remarkable sweet bay scallops..(the New England scallops are madly delicious, pricey and limited, the Chinese ones are garbage..) laid in super thin delicata squash with half moons of Sicilian Castelvertano olives and tarragon leaves in a delicate vermouth sauce. Second. Two more plates. A poussin-a young chicken- bigger than a game hen, smaller than a fryer. It was simple prepared two ways. The leg and thigh were breaded and fried and the breast was deboned and cooked sous vide. Both were perfect, plated with a jumbo spear of white aspargus and a delicate natural sauce infused with a touch of duck liver. Squid ink gnocchi with lobster, fresh sugo and furikake. The highlight of this dish was the surprise that the furikake- a savory seasoning made with Japanese nori, salt, etc, was actually melted into the tomato sauce. This was an epiphany. I'm going to mess around with this concept. Dessert Steak tartare. Whats better for dessert, right? The menu listed at 42 day aged with lebneh and garnet yam. This was so-so. The beef was fresh and nicely cut, but it was not as tangy and bright as I hoped. The lebneh was dried to curds and folded through the tartare. The 1/2 yam was perfectly cooked but overall, the dish would have benefitted from a lil sumpin-sumpin. I missed getting a pic. The wines were perfect and the service and staff's upbeat energy was refreshing. When I see a menu that contains words that even I, with all my experience, have to look up,I feared that dreaded holier than thou server interaction. Not at Pammy's. Had my birthday dinner at Pammys and it was a treat. They have a revolving menu filled with all sorts of creative and interesting dishes. My husband and I ordered several small plates from their a la carte menu (bay scallop crudo, cod cheeks, puntarelle, lumache, and short ribs) and each plate was tasty. The bay scallops were the highlight for me- super light and fresh tasting with little slices of grapefruit. The service was fantastic, the waitstaff are very friendly and attentive. The ambiance in the restaurant is great, there's a cozy wood burning fireplace in the center, low lighting, and exposed brick. There are a few drawbacks- the individual tables are really small and tight together, and the "small plate" portions really are small. If you're there for a full meal, you're going to need several small plates. Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience that I came away from happy! read more

Portion size left a little to be desired afterwards. For the price point, I think they could've been a little bigger. Overall flavors were great, ingredients were fresh. The culurgione had a vibrant explosion of sweetness and tang from the blueberries that meshed very well with the richness of the pasta and the light crunch from the corn. Malfadine was a tad bit salty, and I almost wish there was slightly more pasta in it to balance out the salt and the texture from the tripe. I came here while in Boston for a conference and had an excellent dinner. I sat at the bar and got to see a lot of great cocktail-making throughout the evening. To drink, I started with the Appalachia Coffinmaker (bourbon, apple brandy, apple molasses, and house falernum) which was delicious and perfect for warming me up on a chilly fall night. They brought out complimentary bread and olive oil which was great to snack on. For my main dish, I got the Grilled Maitake Mushroom, which came with cauliflower porridge and a brown butter tomato sauce. It was delicious - especially the sauce was full of flavor (I believe garam masala?) I had another cocktail with my meal, which was the cocktail of the week. It was called Nostalgia, Ultra and had cacao-infused bourbon, M&R Fiero aperitivo, Punt e Mes, and mole bitters. For dessert, I got the Cheesecake which came with strawberry granita and a biscuit. I actually first saw Pammy's in some interesting article about Boston must-try restaurants, so it's been on the list for me to visit for quite a while - I finally had the chance to come by with a friend for a weekday dinner. Reservations are not difficult to come by, per se, but some planning is definitely required (especially if you want a good time slot on a weekend). There's basically one "meal" to order, and it's a pretty unique take on a prix fixe menu - basically there's like ~12-15 dishes and each person chooses any 3 for a fixed price. My friend and I decided to share everything so we could try a bit of 6 different things; we had the hiramasa crudo, lobster biscotto, steak ratare, lumache, lambchop, and pork milanese. Lobster biscotto was my favourite - broth rich and flavourful, and the bites of lobster so fresh and juicy and delicious. The lumache is quite popular apparently but I felt a bit odd - the mix of bolognese and gochujang was... not for me, to say the least, and frankly felt a bit forcefully (artificially) quirky. The two raw dishes - hiramasa and steak tartare - were fine, but nothing in particular to write home about, and the last two 'mains' - lamb and pork - were tasty but really quite heavy. The breading on the pork milanese in particular was just a lot, and some of the accompanying sides, like the apples-mixed-with-couscous, didn't really complement the dishes that well. Surprisingly, we were absolutely stuffed by the end of the meal. Between the delicious bread and the heavy carbs in the lumache, there was actually a lot of food despite the smaller portions for many of the dishes. That being said, overall, I'm a bit ambivalent about if I'd come back or not. The food was certainly good, no doubt about it - but I'm not entirely convinced that the price was worth it. Literal perfection?! My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary and were treated and ate like royalty. For $69 you get to pick any three dishes, which is a difficult task, given they all sound and taste delicious. We opted for the lobster biscotto (lobster bisque), brussels salad, lumache, gnocchi and the duck. The portions are generous and you can tell a lot of thought went into the making of each dish. While everything was outstanding, our favorite was the lumache. The bolognese pairs extremely well with gochujang. we also really liked the lobster biscotto, which had a very pleasant kick to it. I tried the granny smith cocktail, which tasted like a crisp apple cider, yum. To top it off, the staff was attentive and warm, which really added to the experience. read more

Came for dinner. Interesting menu and approach, you select any 3 dishes from the 10+ listed for $79 a person. They only have 3 vegetarian dishes, but can amend certain dishes to make them vegetarian. The dishes towards the top of the menu are smaller and they increase in size as you go down the menu. If you are a big eater, I would recommend a pasta along with two of the entrees (at the bottom of the menu). Our friends did the wine pairing with it and raved about the wines. They also serve nice bread with good olive oil before bringing out the food and will happily bring you more if requested. The majority of the dishes were very good, but there were a few misses. We sampled 4 starters. The snapper crudo was light and refreshing, the bluefish was good (I am not a bluefish fan and would not order it myself, but they did it well or as well as one can prepare bluefish) but the cherries were an odd addition. The culurgione were ok, but not as described. We expected a potato pasta but it was instead more of a crispy exterior filled with melted cheese inside (nowhere was cheese mentioned in the description) served with corn and blueberries. Again, it was good, just not at all what we expected. The tomatoes and watermelon was strange texture wise, but relatively pleasant and refreshing. Not sure I would order it again given the other options on the menu. We also tried the lumache bolognese, mafaldine and black cod. All were delicious, cooked perfectly, and I would eat each again, but the mafaldine was the best dish of the night. Most interesting flavors (labneh, chili, pasta) and arguably the star of the menu. The last course was the coppa, spaghetti, duck and short rib. The coppa was the best, nice crispy exterior but tender inside. The pork was marinated well and had a nice flavor. The duck was also cooked perfectly and a nice dish overall. The short rib was cooked nicely, but was far too salty. The cheese on the plate was overpowering (reminiscent of blue cheese but a different cow's milk cheese) and did not really go with the dish in my opinion. The spaghetti was not my cup of tea as it had a strong flavor of cloves which I did not think paired well with the tomato sauce but the others enjoyed it. For dessert we ordered the mint ice cream with cherries which was a nice dish and the black tea curd was surprisingly good. The service is great and the ambiance is very nice. For the quality and creativity, I would recommend it. read more

My friend from out of town and I came here for dinner on a weekday afternoon in may 2021. We made a reservation and it wasn't too crowded at 5:30pm. You are required to order from the $72 prix-fixe menu, where you can choose 3 dishes from a big list of options. I got the yellowtail crudo, the swordfish filet, and the pork chop, as I thought those were the most value items! The crudo came with a tart sauce and small bits of seasonal veggies. It was pretty small though, The swordfish was nicely browned and had a nice, mild flavor, but it was a little dry. The sauce did help a bit though. My favorite dish of the night was the Berkshire pork chop. The pork was tender and well-seasoned, and charred perfectly. However, a fairly significant part was fat and tendons, so the pork chop was actually a lot smaller than it looked, which was just a teensy bit disappointing. This is definitely a nice place that I would recommend for special occasions, such as a nice date night or fancier family dinner. Personally, I couldn't really justify the price tag for this place, but the food is indeed pretty good. read more

Wow. The food is incredible. This was a spontaneous end of 2021 celebration for my partner and I. We already want to go back. Aperol spritzes were divine and drink of choice. Ambiance and service was top notch. The tables are small but the plates cater to that size. Don't order too much! We ordered the butternut squash and the mussels. I swear we wanted to lick our plates at the end and enjoy every little bite. The bread and olive oil was fantastic in the beginning as well. 10/10 read more

This place is a must try spot! Food was delicious, vibes were great, and drinks were also yummy. In my honest opinion, if there were any Michelin guide spots in Boston, this would be one of them. With a reservation, you are able to choose 3 dishes for $75. The menu was diverse so you can have plenty of different flavors to choose from. From their website, it also says that the menu changes frequently so there's always something new to try. The staff are super friendly and helpful with any questions we had. The seafood we tried all tasted very fresh and tender. The meats were cooked well where it wasn't heavy to eat. It's a great place for a nice date/night out! read more
