First visit to Ramona, heard there were numerous wineries here. Mist aren't open during the week. This one is open 7 days a week. It's a tasting room only, the winery itself is 3 or 4 miles away. First, the winery itself. I tried the Sparkling, the Sangiovese, and the Syrah. All were great, but the Syrah was by far my favorite. Service here is awesome. Very friendly atmosphere. They don't have their own food, but you can order from several nearby places and it will be delivered to you here. Patios in the front and back. The wine was ok in fact we liked the Zinfandel enough to buy a bottle. The ambiance was horrible. Everyone was congratulating themselves about being so friendly but then they were extremely rude when talking about anyone west of East county. The gal doing the tasting was leading the discussion so I guess this is the view of management . I was extremely uncomfortable and couldn't wait to leave. I will never go back. I love that they're open during the week. Sometimes I need to get out for a quiet low key drink and find a spot to study. This one is perfect. Inside is cozy and feels very open. The server is friendly and ready to share about the area. Alas, the wine tasting aspect could use some work. The detergent on the dishes is so strong that I smelled amonia rather than the wine. Although, it may have been the wine. Wine is subjective, but there were some real issues here. Especially with the port, which was so riddled with sediment and in need of filtering that it was unpalatable. I wanted to like this place, but there was literally not a single thing that I would want to have again. Ever. However, I would love to hang out in the tasting room again. So, give it a chance, but I wouldn't build a trip around it. read more

We loved it here at Pamo Valley Winery Tasting!! :) We had just checked into our Airbnb (a respite from work-from-home living in covid19 era) and wanted to go out for a drink! The outdoor patio area is laid out in a way where covid19 restrictions can be adhered to and the staff is more than mindful while still being as warm and knowledgable! The owner even came by to suggest nearby eateries and activities that may be fun to try! Went here with family and friends (there was about 15 of us) for my birthday and had a blast! I think almost all of us drank Sangria (blend of white and red Sangria) and it was Yummy! What a great find on Main St in Ramona! Marti was our host and she was delightful. Our visit started off with a friend having an appt to meet "The Cheese Lady" (Kim from Cheeses from the Cave - her cheeses are amazing!) and transitioned into my friend asking me to ride along -- and then our husbands joining us too. The guys tasted, and we didn't, as I don't drink wine and my friend was the DD. The tasting room has the vibe of Cheers (the TV show, not the Ramona bar of the same name) ... seemed like there were a lot of regulars coming and going. It's nicely decorated, a cozy place where you just enjoy hanging out. The guys both liked their Sangiovese the best. At the end they each had a taste of sangria and it was a very good sangria, a surprisingly refreshing one, not overly sweet. There was no food for sale - though Marti did bring us some crackers. Also, we noticed that a gentlemen went to La Cocina to get his dinner and brought it back to eat there. I was meeting a friend on Thursday, and this was the only tasting room that was open in the Ramona area. I was there before my friend got there and I walked in by myself and felt immediately welcomed and comfortable. Several regulars were there and were very friendly, I even got to meet Mr. January and Mr. September . When my friends arrived, they brought some of their friends who are also regulars and Mr. July! It was such a great afternoon with a super friendly mix of people. It also happened to be cruising night which didn't start until 6 o'clock, and I had to leave before that. I'll definitely be back every Thursday before my 6 o'clock class to stop in and say hello to all my new friends! Did I mention that the wine was delicious? Everything I tasted had great flavor! This is a great little place! I came here with my family (husband and 2 kids, aged 6 and 8) and we didn't stay too long but the hostess was so kind! She gave our boys a bag of chips and she let them talk her ear off for a little bit. There is a nice little outdoor area. I did the 5 wine tasting and all were great to me. When we left, I had forgotten my bag! A mile down the road, I remembered and turned around. When I got there, the hostess had already left a message for me on FB and attempted to call AAA so they could contact me. She really went out of her way to make sure I got all my stuff back. If you are ever anywhere near Ramona, you need to stop in and check out this tasting room. Pamo Valley Winery will charm you from the moment you walk in the door. Jennifer (the winemaker) and Mike are so friendly and provide an intimate and educational tasting experience. It was truly fun talking with them. And the room is darling! It is a really cozy setup with wine barrels and lots of fun wine-related merchandise to browse, including these cute pocketbooks that Jennifer makes from leftover wine corks. Now, on to the wines. I'm a total wine geek and I believe that Pamo Valley will hold its own against some of the best wines out there. Jennifer took us through the tastes and all of the ones she recommended were sooo good! She doesn't make tannin bombs; they are softer and rounder, well balanced, in a range of styles, and very drinkable. I enjoyed everything she poured, and I think my favorites were the Jenn's Blend, the Indian Princess and the 08 Merlot (surprisingly as I'm not usually a Merlot drinker). I'm so happy that we found Pamo Valley right in Ramona. Not only is it much closer to San Diego than the Temecula wineries, but I also prefer the wines and the tasting experience here. Kudos to Jennifer and Pamo Valley! My palate is still thanking me for the experience. read more
