I can't believe this place has been around for an entire year and I'm just now hearing about it. My husband wanted to bring me here, and I wasn't very hungry, so originally I wanted one tiny pastry. But the minute we walked in, it smelt amazing and the pastries looked so inviting, that we got 5 items, walked outside and immediately inhaled them. And I mean I blacked out I woofed them so fast. These were the best pastries I've ever had. I just couldn't stop eating once I started. (Side note- we went back in and bought 4 more items to eat later today, I think they've created a monster) Now, I'm not a food critic or anything, but I fancy myself as quite the pastry connoisseur. I have been all over the world and had some of the best pastries, food and coffee from several different countries, and none of that even comes close to rivaling this place. Their teleras are the best I've had! They remind me so much of my hometown in Michoacán. They stay incredibly fluffy and soft, even after a couple of days. Highly recommend! I've also seen a lot of comments about the prices. As someone who believes in supporting small businesses, I think it's important to remember that you're supporting a small Mexican-owned business making its way into communities and spaces where we belong. And honestly, some of you will gladly spend more at large corporations on bakery items that are frozen and pre-packaged around the corner. If you are looking for a bakery with fresh high quality pan dulce, this is your place. The bakery is nicely lit, very clean, and the staff is welcoming. The cafe de latte and chocolate abuelita latte were the best choices my friend and I could've gotten. They were the right amount of sweet. We also had so many yummy bread options to pick from, but we grabbed the guayaba pan and it was delicious! I did enjoy the galletas de canela, but I do enjoy them from anywhere to be honest. The piloncillo galleta was just alright, nothing too exciting. The price point is also higher than most. I also did try the savory chorizo and cheddar biscuit which was nice, but had to heat it up at home. The staff really didn't interact or suggest anything. So good that I visited twice in the same week! This spot is self-serve like all other panderias, and I love that they have a photo and description of most of their pan at the entrance. To my surprise there were also some savory options, which I'll have to try on my next visit. Their bread was so good but it seems like a popular item is their chocolate chip cookie. My second visit was two hours before they closed and I snagged the last one. It's buttery, crispy on the edges, with a soft middle, and topped with sea salt. Perfect balance of salty and sweet. Customers were coming in just for the cookie, so if you visit, make sure to add it to your tray. I tried the abuelita latte and it was so good! My husband had the cafe de olla. I had a taste of it and I didn't like it. It had too much cinnamon. The staff is very friendly and I love the seating area right outside the panaderia. This place is just.....fine. So when you first walk in you cannot deny how beautiful it is. Esthetically it is soooo beautiful. I love the concept of it all. The employees are friendly and it's nice seeing the bread makers working. Now when you really sit down and think about their product.....it's just okay. They coffee/lattes taste more like milk than it does coffee. The bread itself it very soft and it taste good but not good enough for me to pay for parking and come back. When you walk up to the counter and the dough is being rolled and shaped for baking only a few feet away there's no doubt that it is prepared fresh with much care and talent. Pan y Cafe is around the corner from Cafe Cultura, its sister establishment. When I stumbled upon Pan y Cafe I had no idea they were related. I was about to go to the coffee shop across the street and was attracted to PyC by their colorful outdoor mural. I walked in and there was a short line at the register. I could smell the tantalizing aroma of fresh baked pan dulce. I was immediately greeting by a very nice lady behind the counter. After I grabbed my pan dulce from the beautiful spotlight display cabinets (made me feel like I was shopping at a luxury boutique), the same lady helped me take my coffee order. I got a matcha concha, chocolate concha, iced Cafe de Olla and Abuelita Latte with oat milk. Both my friend and I loved our concha's and coffee. Personally, I had the Abuelita Latte and it definitely tasted like the famous Mexican hot chocolate. The reason for my 4 stars is because my Abuelita Latte needed some more caffeine. Since visiting Mexico City few years ago I have not found Mexican bread and pastries as good as what I had in CDMX and every time I went there I could not bring back my cravings enough! Cute little bakery in DTSA. Service was pretty attentive though its mostly self service. Some of the pastries ive had in other Mexican bakeries so it was fairly familiar to me. I got a little bit of everything minus the savory baked goods. My absolute favorite is the chocolate chip cookie. Had a good amount of sweetness but a crispy texture that i'm familiar with German bakeries. I really enjoyed the guava and cheese. Fragrant guava taste added right inside the pastry. The prices are higher but from what it seems, they do use higher quality ingredients. I do wish there was seating inside as the bakery is super cute. I'm more of a savory gal than a sweet tooth so I got a jalapeño cheese bolillio and a cheddar chorizo biscuit. The place is beautifully designed, you grab a tray and tongs at the entrance and pick whatever pastries your heart desires. I asked them if everything is baked fresh daily and they said yes. There is no pricing labels so I'm not sure how much everything costs but I spent $7.93 for these two items. I received the items cold so I went home and toasted them, it would be nice to have them offer to warm your items for you so you can enjoy them warm.
