With every visit to Andre's I become more and more of a fan. My first taste came from when I worked at the Nelson many years ago. Julian, the Director, is a fan of this place and he'd sometimes order an array of cakes for the staff to enjoy, they always went fast, and it was my first foray into European style cakes like what Andre's serves up. Flash forward more than a decade and I've been here a few times, sometimes to get chocolates for a friend, other times (like last night) for a meal. I didn't realize that Andre's does special events like their fondue nights. I have a feeling these are annual so you might have to wait until 2027 to snag a seat at the table, but their fondue meal was so much fun and comes with some history from their staff. Fun thing I learned was that they sell their fondue year round in the shop so if you ever want to do a unique date night at home just pop into Andres and purchase some to-go. It would be such a fun way to spend a Saturday at home. Finally, I'm going to add that for me what takes Andre's to the next level and makes it a must visit spot in KC is the history. It's been in the same family for generations, the recipes are authentic, and the owners are really kind people. I found the new (to me) menu format a little confusing, especially if you're ordering the one-price lunch option that comes with your choices from each category: an entrée, two sides, a beverage, and dessert. Among the sides, my favorites are the carrot salad and the spinach salad. Andre's specialty dressing, which comes on both of those, is so good I could drink it! Andre's is a wonderland for the sweets, chocolate, and pastry lover! I stopped by André's on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. It's so much more than just a chocolate shop. When you walk in, the chocolate counter is on the left and the café is on the right. The staff at the chocolate counter weren't very welcoming, and I almost turned around and left. But I'm glad I didn't. I headed over to the café side instead, where the service was warm and top notch. The café itself is super charming. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered a latte and a blueberry tartlet. Received tea cookies as a gift. Cookies were clearly old--stale, chocolate was discolored. Same thing happened last year. Shop would do nothing about it. I was told to contact their shipping. Were they not Andres unless they came from the shop? I assume they all came from the same kitchen. An inferior product is inferior no matter if it came from the store or was shipped. Andre's is the best. Seeing the pastries behind the glass upon entry always gets my blood flowing. I love to shop around and ask what's what and the staff is always so helpful in answering my questions. I felt European on my most recent stop for an afternoon piece of cake with coffee. It was perfect. I was so late that most of the pastries were sold out but that made it easier for me to choose. It was about 4 p.m. and my wife and son almost had the place to ourselves for a quiet cup of coffee. On other visits I've had the premade sandwiches that have always been good. The chocolates are delicious and then one of the best items is the white cake. They usually have a few small white chocolate covered pieces of white cake that can be good for one person. It's always a good choice to buy a white buttercream cake from Andre's for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. read more

I'd like to give a HUGE thank-you to the folks at Andre's for saving my Christmas! I wanted to buy chocolates for my best friend and realized (on Christmas Eve) that not all chocolates are gluten-free. My friend has celiac disease, so it's important to me to ensure my gifts to her meet her dietary restrictions. I checked online and discovered that almost all of Andre's chocolates are gluten-free and--better yet--they were open on Christmas Eve until 4 pm. So I dashed over after work, arriving at 3:40, and the folks behind the counter were all so kind and so helpful. I explained what I needed and they showed me the ready-made boxes of chocolates available--but then offered to put one together for me right then, to make sure that we chose exactly what she wanted and that every chocolate was gluten-free. They guided me through the choices, telling me the flavors that were in some of the selections, and giving their recommendations based on my friend's tastes. How nice of them!! I walked out close to the stroke of 4 pm, with the perfect box of chocolates in a lovely gift box. Hurray!! I really appreciate the staff's kindness, and going the extra distance for my friend, at the very end of their work day before the holiday started. They make hot drinks to order, and have an assortment of sweets/baked goods and sandwiches & other confections. The Swiss embassy is directly above this place, so obviously the food here is inspired. The chocolates were just amazing, as was the desert. The food was very good, although it's not my typical fare. The choices are fairly limited, and typically reflect a daily special. I was in town to catch up with an old friend and she chose this place as she enjoys the food but it's also relatively quiet and they were happy to let us occupy a table for several hours long after we were done eating. The manager kept coming over to ensure we didn't need any refills on our drinks any anything else to snack on but made it clear we were more than welcome to linger as long as we wanted. This review is late, as my birthday was in June, but I wanted to say that the duo mousse cake was beautifully decorated, and more importantly, tasted delicious. I think this cake is the perfect compromise for chocolate lovers and vanilla lovers. The mousse is creamy and rich, and the cake is light and fluffy. There is definitely an almond extract flavor (which I liked, but my husband didn't). The price was about $35 for a six-inch cake, which is not any more expensive than other bakeries in the area. We were honored that 3rd generation owner Rene Bolier gave us a tour of Andre's , and we thoroughly enjoyed the time. He did a wonderful job explaining and showing in detail all about how Andre's chocolates are made. It is impressive how involved and complicated the process is but yet how smoothly its done. Went on a Friday afternoon to celebrate our friend's birthday and while it was busy, service was great for our lunch, and we didn't have to wait long before we were seated and served. The foods I had were absolutely delicious! So many choices for desserts, I'm a bit surprised at myself for not buying any others on the way out. ;) The venue itself is nice; I prefer it over the one in Overland Park, only in that it seems larger and I like all the wood furniture and art upon entry into the tea room. Always a delight here at Andre's. It's been a great while since I've been here but other than some new pictures, the Menu remains consistent. Why change a good thing, is what I say. Jane, our waitress was wonderful. We both enjoyed the Quiche Lorraine with a spinach salad, sliced tomatoes and lentil soup. So tasty and a great portion of all items. The menu is limited but the food is excellently prepared and served. The best deal is the fixed price menu. You get an entrée, drink, sides and dessert. The staff and presentation at Andre's is fantastic, no doubt, and that alone makes me wish I loved the food so much more. Unfortunately, it just wasn't there for me. Andre's markets itself as a Swiss confectionery, but none of the sweets I had in Switzerland were nearly as sweet as everything is here. Especially if you enjoy desserts on the more nuanced, less sweet side, I'd recommend a different chocolatier / confectionery. Original owners were from Switzerland, and were true Swiss chocolatiers. 68 years later, the family still owns the business, and it is now in the hands of the fourth-generation descendants. The variety and the sheer beauty of Andre's display cabinet is worthy of 5 stars in itself. Stunning and mind boggling when trying to make a decision. I went in for my first visit on National Chocolate Day this week to get something for an employee's birthday and ended up staying for espresso and one of the most decadently exquisite confections I've ever enjoyed. I'm overwhelmingly sad that I have skipped Andre's for all these years, but I will be making up time with a return trip already in the works. My sweet was a miniature volcano shaped treat; a cookie base topped with chocolate ganache and covered in milk chocolate and white chocolate lava. Wow! The Birthday girl was equally pleased with her treats. Super cute place. The front is all the chocolate shop and the selection is huge. I had the dining in the back. Came here for lunch. They have a lunch menu and each dish comes with two sides and a dessert. Or you can get al la carte. Of course, I got the whole shabang! I tried the vol au vent which is chicken and mushroom cream and it was delicious. The portions look pretty small but when you have all of the sides with it too, the meal is pretty filling. Nellie told me about this place and just had to go. Sadly the city shuts down with an inch of snow and Uber/Lyft/Taxi were all busy with up to a 45 minutes wait. Next day was able to take a Lyft, ordered the egg souffle, homemade hot chocolate, and chicken that mushroom vol au vent with puff pasty. That was amazing!
