One of my favorite places in Vallejo. Period. Every single barista I have interacted with here has been top notch. They're all super easy to converse with and genuinely seem to enjoy their craft. Not to mention, they have a wicked memory when it comes to drinks orders as well. Panama is my go-to as a student on the island and I seriously would be suffering through Grad school without it. It's a very community-feeling shop. You'll see men playing chess and others just sitting around. There's a lot of foot traffic since it is located at the ferry station. Not recommended for studying. It is adjacent to the ferry terminal and it would be really great if one could stop in and grab something relatively quickly before getting in line when commuting to the city but tbh, they just take too long. I can order from an app at a place like Starbucks, show up and my food/drink is waiting for me. Here I gotta show up, place my order and wait, then wait some more. Last time I ordered a breakfast sandwich/pocket it took the person a virtual eternity to make it, put it into the cooker and get it to me. So of course I had to try it and since there is an upcharge for soy (which is annoying in my opinion). Beautiful scenery this morning at the waterfront in Vallejo. Picked up breakfast before hopping on the Ferry to San Francisco (best way to travel). Ordered the regular oatmeal, which is prepackaged but great for on the go travel. Had the option to purchase just the container of oatmeal or have them add hot water so it could be made on the go. Comes with oats of course, dried fruit, nuts and brown sugar. Not bad for $3.50 with a hearty portion. They also had tons of breakfast, coffee and tea options so you'll definitely find something that fits your style. Word of advice: go early so that you have time to view the menu and order in peace. read more

My sister and I were waiting on our ferry to arrive from San Francisco. The delicious Panama Bay Coffee was located here in the terminal. I simply just enjoy the coffee shop that's here. Impressively rude staff on repeated exchanges. There's really no need for that, folks. Patrons were doing all the things normally done in a cafe and the two staff people just seemed to be bothered by the mere fact that they were at work that day. This unwelcome, snarky vibe definitely harshed the mellows of both me and my guest. On a Saturday, the last ferry leaves at 5:30. The cafe closes at 5:00. This scheduling oversight could be addressed easily. Reminding patrons of the closing time repeatedly while we are trying to have a conversation over a beverage is unpleasant. While I enjoy the coffee when it comes out correctly, there is one barista there who consistently gets the order wrong. When taking orders she makes no attempt to write it on the cup and often what you get by the time she crafts the drink is either what she remembers or simply feels like giving you. And I can understand this happening every now and again but it's a regular occurrence with this barista and it's unfortunate because I used to enjoy coming here but I know whenever I see her holding the bar that I'm going to leave disappointed. Whether it's intentional or just lack of wanting to provide a good experience, I honestly can't tell. Had I witnessed any effort to improve or provide greater customer service with time and experience I would be totally okay but it's been a couple of years and she remains exactly the same. However, most of the other baristas I've encountered there have been pleasant and I usually walk away with what I asked for making it a gamble whenever I go. I'm a Touro University student which is located near this coffee shop so it's nice to know this place exists when I'm tired of studying on Mare Island. Good beverages, good food, and free wi-fi (you need to ask for the password--you might have to buy something since it's on the receipt of your purchase). The sandwiches here and they're pretty legit. I think I got something called the Cubana--lots of calories but damn good. I also like how this joint is near the Ferry Terminal--I've used the ferry once and it was a good experience by the way. Came in here randomly after a nice jog along the marina. Very descent interior, gives a vibe of a real independent coffee house. The staff was pretty friendly and helped me out when they saw the confused look on my face. A look that gave the feeling of "Why is there a nice coffee house like this in Vallejo?" Other reviewers complain that they are more costly than other shops in Vallejo, but for the quality and waterfront location I think it more than justifies. And the baristas are wonderful and they make an effort to remember who you are and ask about you. They also try to be eco-conscious, which should be a GOOD thing!? Probably won't be coming back here anymore. We use to come here all the time due to it being close to the house and being local. However, on multiple occasions we have come in and staff has been pretty rude. We've also viewed them be rude to other customers which is a bummer. Last time we came in they messed up my order (which is no big deal things happen) and when I told them I expected them to say, "okay no problem we'll fix it" type of thing but she just stared at me and made it really awkward and made it pretty apparent that she had no intention of fixing the mistake. The thing about Panama Red that makes it so fantastic? THE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I do come here quite a bit as it is very close to my work and the waterfront is such a nice place to be. The staff are very friendly, more so than the staff of any other coffee place I've been to. The drinks: I find that Panama Red drinks have a stronger coffee flavor. So if you get a White Chocolate Mocha (like me) expect it to taste more coffee-ish than going somewhere like Java Jax which is sweeter usually tastes more like White Chocolate syrup. They have a soda fountain and also offer a huge variety of teas. A lot of the staff members seam really up to par with their knowledge of tea....though I don't order tea so I can't tell you how it tastes. They also have blended fruit drinks (think Jamba Juice), these are fairly good...though I think I would still prefer Jamba over Panama. lol. The sandwiches: I think they have 3 or 4 different ones. I wouldn't know how they all taste cause I only order the 3 Cheese Sandwich...think of it like a glorified grilled cheese. It is done on a small sourdough loaf and contains pepper jack, cheddar, and colby (just guessing on the colby lol). The pepper jack is a nice addition as I enjoy the little kick it gives the sandwich. The desserts/pastries: This is were I think Panama Red shines. All their desserts/pastries are HAND MADE. They are soooo delicious, especially their cookies. They also recently started serving their own hand made cannoli. I really like how bright and open this area is. It is a great option if you would like to get some coffee and have some study time. There are a good amount of tables available to study with a buddy. The only downside is that there are no outlets available. So if you want to study here, be sure to have your laptops,iPads, etc. fully charged so that you can get a good amount of studying done.
