Absolutely not impressed. Breakfast is normally my favorite food group and I'm so sad that I wasted my cheat meal here. I'm not sure how you make eggs Benedict bland, but it must take a special recipe. I'm also not sure how you can get away with serving a $9.00 6oz mimosa. Hashbrowns were barely brown and were also bland. Service was okay, nothing special. I would have gotten the same service at a walk up counter. Found this place by accident and will most likely be my new breakfast go to. Got a giant 5 egg omelette that was just perfect, all fluffy pancakes that were some of the best I've had. Being across the street from an IHOP, I will still choose the pancakes here. Nice corner street views with great service and some TVs to watch a game that may be on. Can't wait to go back. Plus, menu looked good for lunch and dinner too with good beer prices, will have to check that out for sure read more

I used to love Pancake Cafe circa 2021/22 but the last few times I've been there in the last year or so I have been less than impressed. More often than not the staff has been very dismissive which comes off as rude. You feel like you're being rushed out of there. I especially get this feeling when I ask for something to be gluten free(which they advertise they can do!!!) Don't get me wrong, I am appreciative that they even offer gluten free options since I have celiac disease. However, you're going to pay an extra $5 for gluten free food that is just mediocre. They up charge did not used to be $5. Asking people to pay a an extra $5 for something they can't even help most of the time..especially for food and service that is far far from perfect, it just doesn't sit right with me. They also misprinted the menu recently saying they could make crepes gluten free when they could not. I will now be going to the iHop across the street. read more

Odd experience at this place. Good was fine; service a bit less so. Ordered gluten free pancakes and waffles; they were filling and good enough. Waiter never brought out any syrup or butter, which fine, we asked and they fixed it. But the menu clearly says they make their own homemade syrup. Instead, based on what they delivered, I think they raided McDonalds. It was that fake, high fructose corn syrup crap that doesn't taste anything like maple syrup. Ventured into boystown this weekend for a super yummy brunch. They have crepes here, a variety of savory and sweet! So, of course, I had to order one. The spinach crepe to be exact. This was like a perfect meal for me. Because you have the option to order a half order of pancakes which is what I did because I love potato pancakes. And not only that but I had some of my friends bagel lox. And ordered a mimosa ....or two. Their French toast flavors include Pumpkin Spice Delight and Banana Lovers which sound definitely delicious! Moved back to the neighborhood a few months ago and decided to try the new "look" and now serving cocktails! Hurray we thought, then the simple breakfast entrees came. A Wednesday, Friendly service. The huevos rancheros and scramble eggs and "loaded" hash browns. Besides the eggs I'm not sure where they are buying their ingredients, such low quality. Barley edible. Very disappointing the quality in Chicago, embarrassing. These two breakfast dishes two blue moons and a Bloody Mary $70? Really. So disappointing this amazing location is so bad. I've been patiently waiting to try Pancake Cafe after the former restaurant abruptly closed. They did an amazing remodel and makeover to the space. It feels quite a bit more open and fresh! I was a little confused with the entrance/bar looking area. It seemed kind of out of place with large TVs however, maybe this area is still in the works. I ordered the bacon waffle with a side of scramble eggs and my partner ordered an omelette which came with pancakes. All of the food was delicious! The ingredients (especially the eggs) tasted very fresh and high quality. There is some work to be done with customer service. We didn't realize they were closing at 3pm and arrived around 230 (I understand this is the end of the shift) but as a new restaurant friendliness and customer service is incredibly important. They did not serve our coffee on a plate with a spoon which is typically how it is served. I understand it's very early for them and they still have some kinks to work out which is why I'm not leaving less than 4 stars. I think this is going to be a great addition the area and I look forward to trying more food as their menu was quite extensive! read more

We live in the neighborhood, and Pancake Cafe has become our go-to breakfast & brunch spot. I've tried most of the menu at this point, and the food is consistently solid. The cinnamon stuffed French toast is the stuff of dreams. (I seriously daydream about it sometimes.) I typically order the eggs & sausage so I can get a little sweet and a little savory; it comes with a side of pancakes. And they have a full bar for those Sundays when you need a mimosa or something extra in your coffee to get your day going. Service is always super friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. Very very amazing and friendly service. I got the veggie and cheese omelette and substituted the regular pancakes with the red velvet. It was very yummy and filling. I believe the red velvet pancakes were supposed to come with a cream cheese frosting which I didn't receive but they were still delicious. The service was quick! Solid standard breakfast place but as others have mentioned they certainly have some kinks to work out. The menu is expansive and they also have some lunch options like sandwiches, burgers and salads. I had the biscuits and gravy and the gravy was kind of lacking flavor and the biscuits dense and dry. The eggs and hash browns that came with it were cooked to perfection. They rave about their bacon and while flavorful it was extra salty in my opinion. My partner had the sausage Benedict and really enjoyed it, very tasty hollandaise. They serve Kona coffee which is awesome, but they fail to serve it with a spoon (I stirred w my fork) or come by to refill it. I may have been hungover and a bit parched and finished my water way before the food came, and that too was never refilled until after our meal when our server noticed when she brought our check. So, there's some positives but certainly some negatives, too. Hopefully they work the kinks out as there is a lot to like about this place. read more

If there was one word to describe my meal it would be butter. I got the egg and sausage combo. I asked for scrambled egg whites. I replaced the hash browns that came with it with fruit for a whopping $1.49. My advice don't get fruit. Upon my first bite of eggs the only thing I could taste was salted butter. Not my favorite thing. My eggs were literally drenched in butter. The sausage was ok. The pancakes were pretty standard but definitely something I would come back for. My mom an eggs benedict and the lack of avocado on it was sad. Her hash browns had an interesting flavor to them which I enjoyed,although a little salty. Despite many of the reviews saying the service was bad, my experience showed otherwise. Our server was a bit on the slow side but the restaurant was upwards of packed. He cracked a few jokes and was quick to help us. Overall I would recommend if you wanted pancakes, but just pancakes. I may return to get pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream. read more

They also have a bar open during the second half of the week and they stay open late for that! We tried the stuffed french toast and chocolate crepes. The french toast was served in large portions, drizzled with cream cheese, and stuffed full. The chocolate crepes were every chocolate lovers dream! This is actually the first review I ever make My friends and I were visiting from Los Angeles and we decided to visit Pancake Cafe our first day. Called ahead to ask if they'd be able to accommodate a party of 13 in the patio, they said yes, and asked for time of arrival. When we got there, they said we'd have to wait. Granted, I had a big party and technically it wasn't a reservation, so pass. We got split up, 6 of us sat in one table and 7 at another. Long story short, my friends sitting at other table got greeted by server, got their drinks, got their food order in, meanwhile, my table hadn't been greeted, AT ALL. I myself work in the restaurant industry and tried to be the most patient, but, I was patient until I wasn't. Got up and spoke to the host asking where our server was. In less than a minute, someone came. We ordered Mimosas pitchers, and shots first and then we ordered our food. By that time, my friends at the other table had just gotten their food. 20-25 minutes pass by, we have our food, but not our shots and cup of coffee we had ordered, as well as a a couple of side dishes. The server that brought out the forgotten side dishes, was rudely asking what else we were missing, with attitude. In that circumstance, you'd expect them to be nice and hospitable after horrible service. By then, our friends were done eating. No manager came to speak to us, to apologize... nothing. Safe to say, when I come back to Chicago, I won't be going back to Pancake Cafe. read more

This order was for pickup. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, which comes with choice of potatoes and eggs prepared to order. I had a taste for biscuits and gravy and this definitely hit the spot. The sausage gravy had the perfect amount of ground breakfast sausage and the biscuits were big and soft. I ordered crispy hashbrowns and scrambled eggs. Classic biscuits and gravy! I also like the fact Pancake Cafe offers a full breakfast (i.e., eggs and side) that includes biscuits and gravy (also half orders too). Worst eggs Benedict's I've ever had. Solid yolks. Difficult to slice ham. I showed the manager and instead of bringing me a new plate, he brought me 2 other "poached" eggs I had to serve myself and he tried to charge me for a side of hollandaiss to cover the new eggs. Also they charge $17 for one premixed Bloody Mary. I was the only person my server had and I could never find him. So many better places in the neighborhood. Literally just pick one, it's better. I recently saw that this place was open and have been looking forward to trying it. I came as a party of 2 on a Saturday late morning. When we walked in, there were a couple parties waiting but we noticed there were several open tables that had not been cleaned yet in the already small dining room. After about 5/10 minutes we were seated. Our waitress was quick to serve us and bring our drink orders. So far, so good. But things took a turn. While we were waiting for the food to come out, the place emptied out a bit since it was getting into the afternoon. It got to a point where we were one of 4 tables with people in the restaurant. And we still hadn't gotten our food. Finally, after roughly 45 minutes, a food runner swiftly brought out our food, said "I'll be back with some ketchup and hot sauce", and then quickly disappeared never to be seen again the whole time we were there. So now that we had our food, we went to begin eating but then realized we were never given silverware. So while the food sat there getting cold, we were trying to get the attention of our server - or anyone - and let them know we needed silverware. After what felt like forever but was probably like 5 minutes, our server came to ask how the food was and we were finally able to request silverware and that ketchup/got sauce the other girl never brought. Now to the actual food. I ordered the western omelette, which on the menu says "one of our best sellers". With the accompanying sides of hash browns and 3 pancakes, it was a lot of food. Looking around the room, that seems to be one thing that is nice about this place. The portion sizes are great and the price really isn't bad. However, the quality was mediocre. I liked the pancakes and the hash browns were fine, but the omelette was tasteless and the ham inside of it was not great. The entire time we ate, the waitress did not return to fill the empty water glasses. I know this is a new restaurant, so I think a lot of the negatives can be attributed to things like inexperienced staff and should improve over time. Overall, I would say they have some work to do if they're going to become a steady breakfast staple in wrigleyville. The portion sizes and the prices are good, but the service and food was not quite what I hoped it would be. read more

The service here is a little slow (about a 10 minute wait after sitting down to order and the same for paying the check) but the food is awesome. $11 for a 5-egg omelette with three huge buttermilk pancakes and hash browns is a great deal. They also offer beer, mimosas, and bloody Mary's and have a full bar for anything else you may want. Pancake Cafe seems to me like halfway between a sports bar and a breakfast place, which is just the way I like it. Highly recommend trying it out! read more
