We were very weary of this place considering the dozens of 1-star reviews. I'm here to say it's not that bad. We had a bogo coupon that I would definitely use if you're considering going. The food was warm and there was plenty of it. The only things I'm counting off for is: 1.) the buffet is cafeteria style. So you don't self-serve, they do it for you. While you still get the limitless food of a buffet, I find this system incredibly inefficient. 2.) none of the employees were particularly pleasant except for the hostess. Once seated and then moving through the buffet line, I couldn't help but notice that everyone serving the food seemed like they wanted nothing to do with us customers. Which...I get--but it's a job. We stopped for breakfast here while in vacation in Mackinaw. We were nervous after seeing the poor reviews here on Yelp. The food is mediocre, nothing special. Basically what you get at any college campus cafeteria. However our server was the sweetest lady, I wasn't able to catch her name. Most were tasty and filling. The eggs were just ok. I got fresh strawberries and watermelon slices and they were delicious and sweet. My husband was not quite as happy with the temperature and texture of his items but keeping with the 3 stars as he seemed to be in the minority as I browsed others enjoying their meals. I read a tip to get there early and we were and as we left, there was a far bigger crowd. Distancing was good, staff wearing masks and were friendly. Let me start by saying the food was okay. Nothing special but not terrible. The place is full of international exchange students which isn't an awful thing until you have one who decides she will assist the person infront of you who was white, then skip you and go to the person behind you..who was also white (it's a full service buffet). At first I thought, it was accidental but then my sister who went in line at a completely different time from me had the same experience. We are not white and she was...so the assumption is that it has something to do with race but can't say that conclusively. When we were in line to pay we mentioned to the manager or the older woman at the front that one of the buffet line service workers was quite rude to which she responded with "okay". There was no attempt to inquire about why or what happened. At that point I went outside and took the attached picture so I could post this review. After seeing this, the manager proceeded to come outside to take a picture of my rental car. Lol. What for...who knows. I went in to tell her I took the pic so I could post a review and not sure why she needed a picture of the car I was driving and she says "it's public info" and that if I post a review she would post a rebuttal. (Okayyy) Then she proceeds to tell me that Biance is an exchange student and she probably didn't understand what I was saying and that I look like someone who likes to cause trouble. I then responded and said she didn't ask me what happened and that there was no conversation with this chick at all....she simply skipped me and then my sister. She just stood there laughing with the exchange students and said nothing. Mind you this is also a place with 40 trashy hand written signs about which door people should use. My sister carried a sleeping baby in a heavy car seat in and because there was a huddle of people waiting to be seated, at the entrance door, we went in through the exit explaining that we already had a table and the people were blocking the entrance and she made a snarky remark about rules being in place for a reason. So basically be aware that this place isn't family or baby friendly and is not understanding towards new moms. Also, we aware that there may be some racists hidden among the staff. No one went the extra mile to make sure we were doing fine and for a place that busy, we get it. The food is mediocre at best. Eggs were a weird light yellow color, waffles? Not the best but they were something, along with the French toast. The food to be the quality it is, we were SHOCKED when our bill came out to over $150! I think the BOGO flyers that the hotels/vendors hand out are a bit of a tourist trap to lead you to this restaurant. I was hoping for a hearty home-cooked local breakfast spot but this restaurant had a very chain-restaurant feel. I'm guessing the other breakfast places that offer the same deal are owned by the same people, offering the same food. I'm not complaining, the food was good & everything was fresh but it was cafeteria quality much like what you might find at Disney World's resorts. Which again, isn't bad but not what I'm looking for when vacationing in towns like this. I'm a little concerned Mackinac/Mackinaw might be getting taken over by touristy restaurants & shops as the quality is not great with businesses like these. Anyway, the line is out the door because who wouldn't want to "save some money" on BOGO? But the wait wasn't too bad, maybe 10-15 minutes. Meals are $20 per person if you don't have the coupon flyer, though I suspect that may just be a marketing tactic. The restaurant is buffet style that is served to you school cafeteria style, condiments are at the table & servers bring your drinks. For $10/person (with coupon) I'm not complaining, just a little disappointed & hope these restaurants don't take out the smaller local restaurants that have been there for years.
