The Pancake House is diner food. They serve breakfast and lunch during operating hours. We were able to get in quickly. I got the blueberry pancakes and they were OK. The server brought our food and beverages, and we never saw her ever again until it was time to pay the bill. I was thirsty and disappointed that she never refilled our drinks. We had a good experience here! It's an American breakfast diner situation. I got the breakfast burrito and a chocolate chip pancake- delicious! Prices were standard for Mackinac Island, but $8 for one pancake is a bit much. The service was quickly especially give how busy it was and our server was friendly and helpful. This is a pretty standard breakfast. I did really like the biscuits and gravy I had, but the cinnamon roll had a very odd taste, sort of like peppers. It's surprisingly difficult to find decent biscuits and gravy anywhere, or at least, so I'm told. But the biscuits and gravy at Pancake House are actually very good! The gravy is hot, the biscuits are soft, and if you get it with an egg on top, they're even better. But biscuits and gravy are just one of the items you'll find on the breakfast menu here. (They serve breakfast all day.) Of course, they have pancakes: buttermilk pancakes, blueberry pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, and even red velvet pancakes. We got an order of the buttermilk pancakes, which are a la carte, and then you can add on an egg or bacon or sausage for an additional fee. We got bacon on the side. Another sweet thing we got for our breakfast: a cinnamon roll, which was large and perfectly swirled. Apparently, it had the perfect amount of icing on it. I got the mushroom and Swiss omelet, which was not my favorite. Swiss cheese has such a mild flavor, as do eggs, and mushrooms have zero taste unless you add something to make them soak up that flavor, so this omelet tasted like ... butter? Or whatever they used to grease the pan. I had to add a lot of Cholula hot sauce to my omelet just to taste something. And I don't even particularly like Cholula. Omelets come with your choice of toast. The coffee was great, though, and was replenished quickly. The service was super quick, too. You can tell that these guys are used to dealing with a crush of people during the busy season, because everyone was very efficient. Pancake House also shares the same location as Ryba's Fudge Shop. You're actually sitting and eating breakfast in a fudge shop. (Or maybe people are buying fudge from a breakfast joint. Same-same.) read more

This may have been one of hubs' family standbys from years ago, since he remembered and wanted breakfast here while we were on the island last weekend. The food was good and service was friendly. They've got an interesting set up of using the tables in the fudge store before it opens, for more seating during breakfast time. I had a three-cheese omelette, and I've already forgotten what the two kids and hubs ate. Lack of attention to details. Two things. The table next to us she gave two people the wrong order (omlets). The lady had put catsup on her omelet. She realized when cut into it it was wrong. She had the other person order. He did not like catsup on his. They made do. For our order. There two tables that sat after us who were served. The waitress who managed those tables was efficient and effective. I had to ask someone to check on our order. It came shortly but no apologize from waitress. Need to improve customer focus. The waiter or waitress is the front line for resteraunt. They need to stay close to the kitchen. Our waitress did not. I need to ask twice for a pepper mill. One was not on the table. 4. BATHROOM = 0. None available. 5. PRICING = 2. For these types of dishes they are 30% higher than they should be. I know it is the island but..... 6. I would've enjoyed our experience here had the front door not opened every 2 minutes to release cold air into the front of the restaurant. Even a warm stack of pancakes couldn't stop me from shivering. Husband's breakfast burrito was good, but on the smaller side for the price. Pancakes were great for $11 and a decent amount of food. We hit the island on the 9 am ferry so we were pumped to eat some breakfast. I saw the blueberry pancakes on another table and they looked really good. Spoiler alert: they weren't! Some friends and I checked this place out after getting on the island and thought it was just okay. The food is a little over priced but to be expected on an island as everything is imported. My family and I dined here for breakfast. They are getting 2 stars only because the wait time and service was fast. Food was mid especially for everything costing $20. They lost stars because of cleanliness, my bread had mold on it. They were cleaning the air filters directly over where they prepare food and during breakfast rush. They also don't have any bathroom even if you are a paying customer. Some of the hostess/waitress were also very rude and dismissive to people in my party when asking a question. Busy but we were seated pretty quickly and the server was nice, however they charged us 2 whole entrees when all I asked for was a simple addition to an item charging us $24 when it should have been just a side. Pancake lovers be aware that a tiny container with maybe two tablespoons of maple syrup will cost you $3.99 and if you ask for more you will be charged again. On the day I left the island I got to the ferry an hour too early. Luckily this place opens at 7am so I had somewhere to go to get breakfast and kill time. It's a small and busy restaurant but they get people through pretty fast. We waited about 15 minutes for a table for two. Not bad on a busy morning. The coffee was good. My husband had the cinnamon French toast which was delicious. I had the roast beef breakfast hash with eggs. Very good and a huge portion. Our server was good despite being very busy. My one complaint is that the restroom was out of order. I was told I had to go to the public restroom down the block and across the street. Great little place - especially when I needed a breakfast fix! The restaurant always seemed busy when we were walking up and down the town. It was about lunch time but we were wanting breakfast - thankfully breakfast is served anytime. We were a bit confused on if it was seat yourself or wait to be seated? The entrance door butts right into tables, so I told my husband to just go in and see what we should do. We were then seated at a table, so it all got figured out! Our waiter was very friendly and attentive - I believe his name was Joseph (or I could be terribly wrong)? He was great and provided great service!! The decor is comfy and more like a diner but it was clean. I got the Banana Nut French Toast and it was ah-mazing. I could have done with just two pieces instead of three! But it was very filing, in a good way! My husband got a side of hash browns and meat omelet and was very happy. Hash browns were not soggy like some hash browns. Our whole experience was great - coffee re-fills were flowing and the price did not break the bank. We will be back next time we visit the Island and try some other yummy options! read more
