Funny story. We were traveling from out of town, so called ahead to make reservations for (7) for a Friday night at 6 PM. We got there, and there was no one else in the place. A restaurant that could easily handle 150 people was dead. They had 1 waitress who I don't think understood what we were asking for or ordering, and I think maybe 1 cook in the back who we never saw. The food was very authentic Mexican, good portion sizes, and it was priced pretty average. Services was not great, but I think the waitress was new. We told her to take her time, and when they didn't have items from the menu that we ordered we assured her it was ok. Definitely wasn't her fault. We left a 30% tip because we felt bad. I do not often give a 5 star but this is my new go to Mexican restaurant when I am in town. The service was excellent, the chips and salsa were great and the decor and music were definitely Mexican. Food was tasty, the empanadas were so good and our waitress was super nice. Also the empanadas were my favorite.

It wasn't the best, unfortunately. Although the server was super friendly and sweet, she brought out the wrong order. She fixed it right away. My fish burrito in all honesty was plain and flavorless. There was no cohesive sauce or salsa inside the tortilla to moisten and pull it together. I basically ate the burrito out of hunger and had to salt and pepper each bite. I also believe that the complementary salsa that comes with the chips (not inside the burrito), is made with chicken broth, which needs to be disclosed, because I do not eat chicken or any chicken byproducts. Also, ye be warned, drink refills are not free. Another thing I'd like to know before hand. It was a (pun intended) ~mildly~ disappointing dining experience, but I love Mexican food and I'll give it another shot. Cheers. read more

Excruciatingly slow service without any attempt to make amennds

This was a mixed bag for my fiance and I while we visited this summer. The inside is larger than it appears from the street with plenty of room to sit and relax at a table or at the bar. The salsa was aweful and the food was good but not amazing. The service was friendly and the drinks awesome. The price for food and drinks was very, very reasonable. We are used to paying twice what theh offered for mixed drinks. Even in the area they were a few dollars cheaper than other restaurants we visited. Overall it's definitely a good spot to grab a drink and the food is good with options for vegetarians. The salsa was the biggest disappointment. It was not spicy at all, no real flavor. I came in for lunch. The restaurant is much larger than you would think from the street. Complimentary tortilla chips were nice (ordinary). Salsa is ok - should be more spicy but it was ok. Background music Mexican traditional type was just right. Brick walls lovely and decorations festive. Super cool mural over bar. I got the Tuesday special which was a pork sandwich. The pork was tender and tasty - served on a torpedo style roll. I didn't personally care for the sandwich overall though. Wouldn't order it again. The sauce (hot) brought to table with meal was oddly spiced not in a good way!The French fries were super greasy and soggy. Service was fast and friendly. I'll probably try it again. read more

My food was very tasty - I ordered the Chicken Chimichanga. It was large and came with refried beans, toppings, and rice. The chicken here was dark meat as an FYI - some people like white meat in theirs. The beans were pureed! Odd - I'm not a fan of them (the did not have cheese on them either). Also, they had a cinnamon taste to them. In fact, most everyone at our table noticed a hint of cinnamon in their meals. I ordered a Mojito. A few odd things here. (1) it was carbonated (OK - it was more than carbonated - it was SUPER carbonated! Something you notice when there's NO ALCOHOL in it - see next comment!). (2) I'm not sure there was ANY alcohol in it but there should've been from the price! Spoke with someone the next day who had the same complaint - and one of my co-workers had a margarita that night with us and complained of the same thing. Just order something bottled! The service was extremely slowwwww and it was not that busy inside. Every question, like "can you split the checks?" was met with a response of "I think so," so maybe it was a new waitress? Last comment - the salsa is...different. It's almost like it's cooked. I don't know any other way to describe it. It's decent but not memorable. I'd eat here again and hope for better service. Given that it's probably the only Mexican restaurant around it was okay but nothing to write home about. The food came out lukewarm which is definitely a minus especially for tacos. The salsas tasted like the canned stuff. The guacamole was not fresh made as it came within 30secs of placing our order and it had what tasted like sour cream in it - probably so it doesn't brown. The service was attentive and kind but the food definitely is not authentic nor is it a good quality. I've been here many times and have happily brought many people with me. While the service was always a bit slow and their prices a little higher than out West, the food was worth it. Being from Colorado it has been very hard to find good Mexican food in New England. Unfortunately my last visit was such a disappointment that I won't be going back soon. There was only one other seated table yet the service was painfully slow. They did not have horchata available, there was only a small amount of salsa with our chips, our water glasses were never refilled, and the chorizo in the burrito was so over cooked it lacked flavor. Within a half hour of leaving I had a stomach ache and thought I was going to be sick. Thankfully two if our four entrees were fine. This has been a restaurant that I have relished the thought of going to, but the declining service and quality is going to turn more customers than just me away. read more

As a native New Yorker, traveling with another native New Yorker, I have to say I was very biased when I walked into Pancho's. Good Mexican in Pittsfield, MA? No f-ing way! The decor -- especially a painting featuring a busty white girl with a sombrero -- didn't help quell my presumptuous attitude. But, actually, to my surprise, as well as my friend's the food was very good. My burrito was filled with fresh beans, and my friend's tacos were zesty and authentic (lots of cilantro). I also appreciated that you could order tacos in an American or Authentic style. The wait staff (one person as far as I could tell), was friendly and poured my rum and coke very strong, which is much appreciated. Though the place wasn't completely authentic, it had a vibe of not trying to be something else. I'm a "tourist" in Pittsfield since I grew up in the area but have been living away from there for years now. Tonight I visited Panchos for the first time on a friend's recommendation. The place only had a few customers so the server was very attentive (and also very sweet). We tried to order a margarita and a chocolate martini but they only could make the first drink since they didn't have the ingredients for the second one (even though it was listed on the drink menu...strange). The chips and salsa were tasty and we skipped an appetizer. For the entrees we each had a "combo dish" (Fiesta Uno and Big Pancho) that satisfied our appetites. I also especially liked the house-made hot sauce -- very smoky and spicy. The main downside was that our meals took quite a long time to come out from the kitchen (maybe 30 minutes?) despite the emptiness of the restaurant. The server took away our empty chip basket and didn't offer a refill, which would have been nice after waiting so long for our food. But we'd definitely return to Panchos because the food was so good! read more

Stopped in on a Sunday evening at 5pm and it was quite empty. As you walk in, you quickly notice the Mexican decorations, bright colors, walls painted with murals, all sorts of stuff. It was fun. We started with a pitcher of red sangria, which was HUGE! Full of fruit and very sweet. Could've been a little less sweet and a little more alcohol, but was good. Chips and salsa were good. Not greasy and salsa was mild and fine. Coulda had more kick, but what salsa couldn't? We shared the fish tacos and chicken fajita. The food was solid and a good amount of it. You're given an authentic or American style for tacos - which was nice. Authentic was good. The fajitas were well flavored with peppers, gauc, sour cream, and creamy beans. Pancho's has a good selection of authentic tasting dishes; however, service and some sides aren't up to par. Their "standard fare": Burritos, Tacos, etc. are all very good and their specialty dishes we've had have always ranged from good to excellent. You should be pleased with almost any main course. Their sides, particularly the rice, salsa and guacamole, are not up to snuff, and their tortilla chips are poor at best. More care needs to be taken with this, especially since the chips are often the first thing you taste in this type of restaurant. Service can also be a bit slow and non-attentive. Choosing Pancho's for lunch on one of the coldest days of this Berkshire County winter was the best decision. The atmosphere is warm and welcome and true to the Mexican American culture. I had the enchiladas with the mole sauce, and the sauce was outstanding. My boyfriend ordered the vegetarian burrito and had the house hot sauce. He enjoyed the burrito and complimented the hot sauces' consistency, saying that it was thicker rather than the usually watery store brands. For dessert we had churros with ice cream, and they were excellent. Our waitress was attentive and sweet, making us feel very comfortable.
