Ordered egg drop soup kung pao chicken and vegetable Lo mein... picky about my chinese food but this was bomb! Not greasy full of flavor

We went to Panda Country based on the other yelp reviews. SOO glad we did! The service was great. We were seated immediately. They serve you tea as part of your meal - we didn't even need to order drinks the tea was so good. We ordered lemon chicken (a little too sour for me), beef w/brocolli (very very good), hot and sour soup (FANTASTIC), and egg fried rice (included with the entree!!! - what a plus). All of the food was served fast, hot, and tasty. I will definitely return to Panda Country and highly recommend you try it for yourself. The hot and sour soup is a MUST order! read more

Well I guess I feel the same as most of the people that liked it. On the other yelpers suggestion we got the Cashew Chicken. Not bad but not all that it was cracked up to be. Somebody mentioned the sauce that they bring to the table, right? Well it was kinda like orange colored applesauce if you ask me. We had chicken wings and cream cheese filled wantons for the appetizer. I was the only one in my party that liked the wings. My wife said that they had a strange flavor to her. We also shared an order of the crispy beef. I liked it but was somewhat surprised how sweet it was. The service was adequate but not exceptional. The woman who was the owner or manager came around near the end of our meal and asked us how it was. We had a good time and three of us got full for about 35 dollars. Panda Country is our family's special treat for dinners out. When it comes to Chinese, we've searched all over San Diego and found that our local Panda Country is tops on the list. Always great service, nice atmosphere for a smaller place, the food tastes very fresh versus the bigger places that pre-cook so much of their menu, the portions are very large but because they do not have smaller sizes of most things, you do pay a bit more if you don't get a combo or special. I love their pork lo mien and brocoli beef, their 3 ingredient taste is the wife's favorite, of course orange chicken is our young son's fav...and our oldest can eat two plates of house special chicken on his own...trust me, those are huge servings and he gets two orders every time. Really, the place is great and is actually hand's on run by the owners, which is unlike most places. I remembered to post this as we signed a new business deal today and Panda Country is where we go to celebrate. We head out in a few and I can trust that it is as good as it has been every other time we have been over the many years! read more

Panda Country Restaurant - Favorite part is the zodiac placemats - Chinese Near Me - Santee, California

Ate at Panda Country Restaurant yesterday and enjoyed the experience and food. Faye (waitress with the ponytail) was great! She is very service attentive, friendly, timely on her interactions with customers, and always smiling. I had two Tsingtao beers and she poured each one, and even came back to take the empty bottle off the table. The plates ordered were beef chop suey and vegetable chop suey. Both were delicious, with abundant portions. The atmosphere is modern and Eastern. The air temperature was good (a little on cool side like I prefer) and everything seemed clean. And now a GREAT aspect of this place: No widescreen TV(s) with programming patrons don't want, and here's another good thing, nice Asian music in background (notice in "background"), not loud music in foreground like so many places today, where diners do not look at each other, cannot hold a nice conversation, and then everyone stares at a TV with Wolf Blitzer telling us bad news, when we should be visiting with our guests. Wow, this was great tasting food! Wanted to celebrate Saturday night so gave them a call and they delivered a few minutes before they said they would and they were very nice! We had the Chicken Pad Thai and the Chicken with Snow Peas, the food was delicious and the portions fantastic! read more

4 stars for the major effort they are putting into turning things around. The quality had gone down hill but they are really trying hard to make things better and it shows. We have eaten here many times in and take out but it's been a couple three years now . What the heck happened ? The food is terrible now ! Tasteless like canned food Omg !! $32 for 2 people and we threw it in the trash it was so bad !! Don't Waste Your Money !!! Well something should never change but unfortunately they do. Been ordering for over 30years from this place and now the quality is like Panda Express. Ordered kung pow chicken and now it's kung pow zucchini they have cut the portions and added the fillers like a true fast food restaurant. So another great eats dose not stand out any longer. From what I can see they are loosing business instead of upping there game they cut quality for profit and lost a long time fan. Good luck I will look for the for lease sign soon. I had dinner at this restaurant last night it started with the free tea it was fabulous, loved it, then everything went down hill from there. Although the service was decent the food was not. The free wontons with dipping sauce- the sauce is awful-- it was like apple sauce and the chinese hot mustard was not hot at all, I like my spicy to have a kick. We ordered the dinner options like $15.75 per person. It started with soup-- yuck the egg corn soup tasted like egg drop with creamed corn not a fan. Hot and sour soup my son said is awful to although I didn't get to try it. Then the appetizers came paper wrapped chicken bland and flavorless, the shrimp toast was saturated in oil (dripping with it) unedible, the egg rolls may have been good when they were fresh but all of these appetizers were cold when they got to our table. Plus dipping in apple sauce was not my idea of authentic food. At this point I prayed that the entrees would be better they couldn't be worse right. The entrees came cashew chicken was ok still a little bland but the best of the three we ordered, the spicy shrimp dish was ok not very flavorful not spicy, and a spicy beef dish same not flavorfull a titchspicy tasted as though both dishes were made with the same bland sauce, over all they looked really good but taste did not match. The steamed white rice was not tender it was barely warm under cooked and dried out, the fried rice was awful the same dried out rice refried yuck!! It was brown and flavorless no egg or veggies to speak of -- thats what fried rice is right?? more flavorful rice fried with egg and peas and carrots. Maybe the cook was having a bad day?? I feel awful to leave a bad review but this deserved it!! I love good food and don't mind spending extra money for great quality. I don't know how they can stay in buisness serving this quality of food for the price. I read some of the great reviews about this restaurant and wonder what happened last night. I don't really know how I gave this place 4 stars before. Clearly I was not of sound mind. The owners and staff are super friendly and nice but the food really seems to be lacking. Now first off this is Chinese American food but hey we are in Santee so this passes here for top notch stuff. The vegetarian options are ok probably 3 stars, average, edible. The meat options however are all glazed in a neon day glow orange sauce. It doesn't look natural in any way. No orange chicken I've ever seen is bright glow in the dark orange. I have lived in Santee for 21 years and have been eating here as long as I can remember. I don't know what happened but the quality of food has gone down hill for sometime. The service has slowed also. I kept going and trying different items on the menu to make sure it wasn't just me. Well I will no longer be patronizing this restaurant anymore. My favorite Chinese food place in San Diego! I have been coming here for over 20 yeas. Staff is great! Food is wonderful.

We showed up in a group of five knew what we wanted. They brought us are entrée before bring us our appetizers. Its was very rushed poorly cooked. He was taking plates before they were empty and being very rude about it. And not to say the least literally yells at me as im walking out the door that I didnt leave a tip. Then started an argument with me over it and tryed getting in my face. Wasnt the best visit and ive been here before and thought it was a wonderful restaurant. Poorly managed. read more

I have been dining at this restaurant for close to 20 years but since they were sold to new owners a few months ago, none of the food is the same and all of my favorites taste worse. The won ton soup is not made with the same pork and it is flavorless. The ysian chicken tastes like it is swimming in high sodium soy sauce. The vegetables aren't as fresh. The Kung pao sauce is watered down. Many customers may not notice the many differences but for someone who used eat there at least once a week for 20 years, it is devastating. I went back 2 additional times to make sure it wasn't a fluke or just a bad night and sadly it was worse each time. read more

my boyfriend swears by this place. he grew up in santee and went to panda country all of the time so he actually thinks this place is good. i have to disagree. i had been here maybe 3 times before my last and i was never impressed. the service isn't great and the food is mediocre...i've eaten better stuff at chinese fast food restaurants. the last time we went was about five months ago. i wasn't stoked on going but the boy had a craving...i ordered a beer to put me in a better mood. our order for paper wrapped chicken took awhile and when we started eating it i noticed a hair in my food (big pet peeve of mine)...i went to remove it and it ended up being actually entwined in the chicken! it was a very thick curly black hair that looked like a pubic hair. that was it...when they came out to deliver my entree, i told them about the hair and told them that i do not want my entree. they apologized but ignored my request by packing it up to go. once they brought the check, they had not discounted the bill in any way and charged us for the gross chicken and the dinner i didn't even eat! screw this place. i've read the good reviews and just can't get over my last experience. yuck. read more

We found a new favorite traditional Chinese restaurant! It's so good! I like Hot n Sour soup and they have it!

We left before being served. We had the waitress come to our table and I told her I would like the hot tea and she turned and started to move off despite the fact that she hadn't asked my husband and 6 year old grand daughter what they would like. She just assumed that everyone wanted the same thing. I did of course correct her probably not too politely since that was just such a bonehead thing to do. She stopped at the table behind us afterwards and they told her what a good waitress she was, an indirect commentary, and instead of being professional and admitting that she had screwed up, she said well you know lifes too short. At that point I lost it and informed the next table that she wasn't a good waitress because she had completely ignored the other two people at the table for their drinks and that she should have admitted her mistake. We ordered over the phone their Noodles which we've eaten in resturant before. My wife went to pick the order the needles were not prepared the way we've eaten them before. The noodle were thin not the flat delicious noodles previously enjoyed there. The one employee, possible the cook came to urgue that, thats the way they normally prepare them instead of just making them the way we came to expect it to be prepared. I cannot, as a Taiwanese person, give Americanized Chinese food in East County a 4 or 5 but the lunch specials here are a great deal! You get about ten items to select from and it comes with an egg roll and soup. :) all for about 8 bucks, 12 with tax and tip. read more

Ate dinner at Panda Country last night we normally have great food and experience, however when our food was delivered and we started serving I personally received a long black hair in my helping. I called the waitress over and she notified our waitress, She took the plate and placed new order. Not only did I have to wait for my new order but they also did not discount my check. I'm not wanting a free meal but just something to compensate for the hair found in my food in all reality I would have been happy with $5.00 off. just something...After bringing this to our waitresses attention she took the check and asked the manager (she says) she returns and says they are not sure how to put the discount in the system. OKaaayyyy.... then she proceeds to say that she will pay for the dish. Well that didn't happen either. Probably wont be going back there. Ok Ok... be as elitist as you like... I know that this isn't ""authentic" chinese food... but IT TASTES REALY GOOD! I've been to plenty of authentic joints like ba ren, or spicy city, or numerous places near UCI (you all should know what that realy stands for) and they are good in their own right, but the flavor of this place sets it above the rest. I guess it all realy depends on your personal taste, but I love their orange beef, cashew chicken, egg foo young, hot and sour soup, kung pao beef/chicken, shrimp with sizling rice.... etc etc and so forth (thank you yul brynner). If you are looking for "American" Chinese food then you have come to the right place . My first mistake was not walking out when I realized that the restaurant was filled with non Asians. The sauce in the two dishes I got ( chicken special and crispy beef) was way too sweet. The one thing I did like was that a pot of hot tea is standard with your meal and free. The service was good too. One more tip if you order something that is suppose to be spicy make sure you request that they make it spicy. The house chicken indicates that it is spicy but it's not really. I probably won't eat here again. read more

We have only had delivery but they were open on Christmas Eve and we were sick so we gave it a try. The Salt and Pepper Chicken is very good. I have only had better in National City. The Szechuan Chicken was excellent. Flavorful and fresh chicken was used. I asked for extra spicy and it was about a 6 on a 1-10 scale. Not too hot to eat but hot enough to make my nose run a little. Just what I needed fighting a head cold. We got fried rice along with egg rolls. They were as expected. The delivery was 10 minutes early and all was in line with what we have paid for delivery Chinese in the past. Highly recommended!! read more
