This was mine and my husband's first time here. We walked in and the host greeted us and said he was cleaning off a table and it would be just a minute. While we were waiting, another couple came in to place a to go order and he helped them. We waited about another 10 minutes, awkwardly standing there because there was no seats by the entrance. We finally got seated in the back area that looked like a converted outside porch area. It was very chilly out but we made do. The server came by to take our order, he said his pen ran out of ink but he will remember our order to relay to the kitchen. We ordered an order of pan fried gyoza, an electric roll, a Philadelphia roll, a tempura shrimp roll and a spicy yellowtail roll. We waited what seemed like 15- 20 minutes for our food to come out. They brought out the electric roll first and did not give us any chopsticks so my husband couldn't eat his roll. We had assumed the gyoza would have come out first, since that was an appetizer. The server brought out our other 3 rolls and then went back to bring us chopsticks, plates and napkins. The two rolls that has eel sauce on them were completely drenched in the eel sauce that you could not taste any other flavor in the rolls. The Philadelphia roll had the tiniest piece of salmon in it and was disappointing. We finished our 4 rolls and still no gyoza came to the table. I let the server know that we never received the gyoza so I'd like to cancel the gyoza. We waited a while and got our bill. He let us know he did take off a discount due to the inconvenience about the gyoza. We were sitting next to this obnoxiously drunk couple, the man burst out into an inappropriate song at one point and the wait staff didn't blink an eye.The prices were pretty reasonable here with their 50% off discount on some of their basic rolls.we went up to the counter at the front to pay our bill and informed them about the obnoxious drunk guy but the server only said " more tips for me", youd think they would cut the guy off on the saki and send them on their way but they didn't. Holy cow.... On hold for 15min, no pick up AGAIN!! Every time we have tried placing a phone order no one answers and THEY ARENT BUSY! We walked in and there was one couple seated outside and three people waiting for pickup. No one at the front desk, guy was just standing around. He come to us and we say yea we've been on hold for 15min no one answered. And he takes our order and we wait 40min for food. Two couples came inside and left after a while of no service to them. There was a family of four outside and a dad and kid at the sushi bar. They had to flag someone down for more water and waited a fat minute and still never got food by the time we left. Horrible service, empty and no one inside to have an excuse. Three sushi rolls and a noodle bowl for $70?? No tip for sure. I think we're done trying this place. This is one of our favorite places to eat. If you eat in the restaurant there is a large selection of sushi that is half-price and delicious. The appetizer of salt and pepper shrimp is plentiful and delicious. We haven't been here in a long time , but decided to give it one more shot. Well, that was a mistake . We ordered chicken curry and salemon roll . Came out fairly quickly ... salemon roll seemed ok . Not as good as I remember , but we worked hard all day and were hungry . However the chicken curry came with white rice ( as we asked for ) the rice was hard and crunchy . We told the server and she came back after like 5 minutes and said " the kitchen is too busy and can't make you rice " . So I'm in a sushi shop where rice is pretty important, they have hard , crunchy rice and they can't make anymore ? We canceled he order we had put to go , I can make better rice at home . Most of the curry sauce went to waste .. and the server just set the bill down and walked away . She could've at least comped the curry , but didn't even try . We go to check out and the owner is cashing us out . We tell her about the rice , she apology and gives us 10 % off ... no , I'm not leaving a tip .. which is something I very rarely do ... but this is the straw that broke the camels back ... we should've went to Marietas Mexican food place which has become our new go to .. we definitely will never be back to this sushi place ... do not waste your money or time .. go elsewhere .. read more

We recently discovered that in addition to dining in for sushi, Ahi Sushi & Grill is cheaper and faster for ordering Chinese takeout than their competitor Panda Machi. I'm giving this place a three because the service is horrendous. The food itself, is really good. It's flavorful and they give good portions. The restaurant is clean and has plenty of seating. The menu has a ton of options and of course, they have sushi which is delicious. Unfortunately, the service is not good at all whatsoever. It's so bad, I'm knocking down two stars. If the service was better, I'd give this place five stars. They take long to bring out your drinks and food. They also get mad when they make a mistake and you politely correct them. I asked for a coke and water once, and got my water fifteen minutes later. When I asked for the coke, the lady acted like I inconvenienced her and took another ten minutes to bring out my drink. That's just one example of the many horrid experiences I've had here. I recommend this place if you want good food but are prepared to deal with horrible service. read more

This used to be my favorite Japanese restaurant in Alpine but it has been several years since I was last there. I had a visitor in town from the mid-west, who had never had Japanese food before, so I wanted her 1st experience to be memorable. Yes, it was but not as you might imagine. We walked in around 5PM on a Saturday evening without any reservations but there was no wait . We were told to find ourselves a table which was a bit unusual and awkward. I noticed the servers appeared to be young, not dressed what you would imagine a clean server should be but instead looked like they were moon-lighting from their car mechanic day-job. (Just my impression) A server came within 5 minutes and asked if we wanted any drinks while giving us menus. We ordered two bento boxes, which came with hot soup (she had the egg drop soup and I had the miso soup. Both arrived promptly and were piping hot. About 3 minutes later she got her bento box, even though she just started her soup. I finished my soup and waited, and waited, and waited for my entree before it finally came. I was impressed with the quantity of food in the box, the flavor was excellent, and it was hot even though the entrees should have been timed together. That was the last I saw of our server. Later I had to flag down a neighboring server and request take-home boxes. He came back with them and then I also requested a serving of green tea ice cream for us to split. About 15 minutes later it arrived with only one spoon so I requested a second. We waited and waited and waited. Finally I got frustrated and went looking for the waiter only to find him playing some game on his phone. When I requested the 2nd spoon for my melted ice cream, he became belligerent and started making excuses. The proper thing would have been to apologize and get a spoon but no, I had to listen to him arguing with me and giving me "the look". We finished the melted ice cream and waited another 20 minutes for the check. When it didn't come, we got up and headed to the door where the cashier was. It turned out to be our server, still with an attitude. No "Thank you for coming and we hope you come back." After effects: Within 20 minutes of eating there, I developed a massive gas attack. Was it the food, was it waiter retribution, was it my reaction to the food? I have no idea nor am I implying anything detrimental however, I am wondering what caused it. Now let's talk about the environment: 1. The restaurant has gotten very run down over the years and is desperately in need of renovation. 2. Two tables away were 2 very drunk and very loud women who started to get into a cat fight. I don't think either could have landed a punch but I was wondering why they kept serving them liquor? 3. Then there was the table with 8 kids under the age of 6, all screaming and pounding on the table while their parents pretended not to notice. Their father wanted to know if one of them had a wet diaper or a dirty diaper because it smelled dirty. Not exactly the conversation you want to visualize while eating. In summary, I was extremally disappointed in what this once great little neighborhood Japanese restaurant has become. I think it just lacks good management and needs to be fixed quickly if it is to survive. Poor management is the biggest reason businesses fail. It is really a sad thing to see. Eating in has been good. If there's a problem with the order, they can fix it right away. The problem is take out. We haven't ordered take out very often, but whenever we do they forget stuff.
