Panda Express is, well, Panda Express. For fast-casual Chinese food, Panda always hits the spot. And the food at this Heber location was exactly as expected--no surprises. The staff, however, definitely surprised me, and not in a good way. In the two minutes between when I ordered and when I reached the cash register, the staff somehow lost my box of food. It took several minutes to resolve this. I also ordered a cub meal for my daughter, but it didn't come with fruit as advertised. That's a shame, because I got the meal specifically for her to get a more balanced lunch. The service was fast, at least (but maybe too fast given the errors). read more

As usual, Heber Panda Express fails to impress, but I keep trying. Today I hit the drive through while passing through town because I had been craving the Firecracker Steak and Shrimp. Once I got back on the road, I opened up my lunch to find it contained only three tiny pieces of steak... and no shrimp at all. There were however many of the dried chili peppers and green beans. First of all, they very rarely will have string bean chicken ready, this is a problem with ALL Panda Express locations, I have never been able to figure this out. So today I get in the drive through and order string bean chicken, and of course it is not ready and will take 9 minutes. Poor quantity control We paid standard price for two- 2 Items combo but received KIDS SIZE portion. Each of our entrees and veggies fit a mouthful only. Definitely disappointing especially if we are used to a typical serving, like what we get from our favorite panda express locations in SLC near University Blvd. Would be great to know what to expect if food portioning is weighed. Also, we waited in the drive through for 25 mins. When it was our turn we waited for 5 minutes since we were told that the side green vegetables is still cooking in the wok. When we opened our packages, veggies were hanging out; the server who handed it out to us was rushing and almost dropped the bag from the window. I ordered the broccoli beef bowl with a side of power greens. So I know there will be lots of broccoli in my order but that's what I want. But there was only a single piece of beef, that's it!! This was Door Dash so I couldn't complain at the restaurant and they won't answer the phone. I don't like airing this out over Yelp but I'm not sure what to do when they don't answer the phone. I enjoy Panda Express. I ate recently at one in Las Vegas and had a great experience. The one here in Heber City needs some serious attention. I think the food was ok, but the service was a bit lacking and the sense of urgency by any employee to assist, wipe tables, clean beverage spills on the floor and counter, or even replenish the napkin holder was absent. The bathroom was slightly better than an outhouse and that's only because it had running water. I guess gone are the days where employees are supposed to be busy doing anything to clean. I made an online order about 20 minutes before they closed. I know I know it's annoying but I know they were still going to be serving people so it wouldn't be that much more out of the way to make my plate. I got there with about 15 minutes till close and when they saw me pull up I was walking to the door and she ran out and locked the door so I couldn't get in. Then after a customer let me in she was not happy to make me an online order that said it was going to be done already. At closing time I had to remind them again about my order. I ordered one 'bigger plate,' and picked the following entrees: -fried rice -TWO orders of beef and broccoli -mushroom chicken Look at the attached photos of what they served. -The beef and broccoli consisted mostly of dried broccoli, and 3-5 tiny pieces of beef. -As for the mushroom chicken, there's NO mushrooms, tiny bits of chicken, and a ton of onions and celery. I had a 25% coupon that I received by email but my app refused to open in the store. The cashier was unable to get it work. The line was too long to continue trying so I skipped out on that. Then we ordered 5 drinks (4 of us only drink tea, not soda). The menu stated fresh brewed tea which I've had at plenty of other locations, but this only had sweetened tea from the machine. Yuck! Lastly, this would be the first time I've ever ordered fried rice and there were no eggs in it. Wow, this was bad. I walked in and saw the employees not doing anything. The entire place was very dirty, and none of them bothered to clean up. I ordered the orange chicken and chow mein, and they barely put any into the container. It was probably half full. When I got to the register, they overcharged me. Let me preface this by saying that I dislike Chinese food (and no I'm not racist). It's all the same - chicken drenched in a gooey sauce, withered broccoli, overcooked beef. If I'm hankering for a dose or ten of MSG, then yeah, I'll indulge. Truth is that what we call Chinese food isn't really Chinese food at all. I once had real Chinese food at an authentic Chinese restaurant in the suburbs of Baltimore (go figure). The only way I can describe it is this: It was like hiking Mount Timpanogos on a hot July day, only to get to the top and go blind before you can see the view, and be forced to eat your own sweaty drawers. Yeah, it was that bad. And for clarification, I'm not racist. If what we call Chinese food is really an Americanization of "Chinese food," then Panda Express is like taking American-Chinese food and re-Americanizing it again. Kind of like milk... not just pasteurized but ultra- pasteurized. Or like olive oil that has been extra virginized? If the Statue of Liberty were to don a Make America Great Again hat (pun intended) and round kick communist cuisine in the face, you'd get Panda Express. It's like American food with a slight hint of the People's Republic of China (which by the way recently did away with term limits and is putting Christians and Muslims in interment camps, while selling technology to Iran). So yeah, we Americans would like to think we want authentic Chinese. But let's be honest, we just want their food ideas and sweatshop workers, so we can George Washington it into Panda Express, or iPhones, or pretty much anything else we own. As a newbie to the area, I look at Heber City as having two parts - the mother country with staples like The Back 40 Grill, the bowling alley, and, Granny's Drive-in. Just on the other side of the line of demarcation (600 South) is the capitalist, westernized, new era Heber with a blooming row of American, fast food chains (of which Panda Express is one of them) looming under the florescent lights of Walmart, and surrounded by developments (Cue song: "Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes all the same..."). I recognize that I've given restaurants in this valley 3 stars (like Midway's Corner Restaurant), while I'm giving Panda Express a 4. It doesn't mean I think Panda Express is better than those more upscale eateries. I'm giving Panda Express a 4 in the fast food category. Panda Express knows what it is and what it isn't. It is the Asian version of Chipotle (without the salmonella). The menu is simple, the food is good (I'm pretty sure the Beijing Beef is laced with crack), the restaurant is clean, and it's priced accordingly. So from the standpoint of a fast food rating, it gets a 4. The only reason I wouldn't give it a 5 is because I've been to Chic-Fil-A. I know that a 5-star fast food restaurant exists. If there's one complaint I have about Panda Express, it's this: At about half of my visits, I've had to wait for service. One time, the driver in front of me seemed to be taking forever. The other time was because they needed to cook the mixed vegetables that I ordered (imagine that... they apologized because they had to cook my food). On both occasions, they rewarded my patience with a discount. I've also experienced the miracle of getting a call from my auto mechanic and being told that they overcharged me. So either I have a pathetic face that says, "Please don't take advantage of me." Or maybe I'm just #blessed. Speaking of which, until Chic-Fil-A blesses us with delicious Jesus chicken on this side of the Wasatch, we have to endure other options... that are also opened on Sunday (praise the Lord). And compared to the alternatives (yeah, I'm looking at you McDonald's), Panda Express is a beacon lamp beside the golden arches. Don't be fooled by the sad panda logo, which looks like something better suited for "Save the Panda" foundation (cue song, "In the arms of an angel..."). The neon backlit furry bear glows in the night, beckoning, "Give me your poor, tired, and hungry yearning to eat frugal, freedomized, foreign-immitation food... and sodium... lots and lots of sodium." read more

This review is not about the food at Panda Express. It's about on-line ordering. Made a on-line order, Tuesday 7/16/19, and went to the Heber City store to pick it up. Walked up to the check out and was told to go to the beginning of the order line and wait my turn. REALLY? My order was sitting there waiting for pick up. Why do they have on-line order system and then have you wait in line. Stupid. Not a fan of their on-line order system. Not a way to treat a customer. Bad Panda! read more

I opened the door. The aroma of rice and teriyaki hits me like a freight train. I guess I know what I'm getting! Teriyaki bowl with white rice and grilled chicken. Anna made my bowl... and she made perfectly! Well done Anna. Well done. She put a great amount of meat on so I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off. She put a perfect amount of sauce. She wouldn't let us finish ordering before we were cut off asking, "Is that all." They also shut the window in our face when we were asking for sauce. The worst panda ever! I have been back multiple times and they Always get the order wrong or it's not done correctly! I ordered ham fried rice and they gave me white rice that was under cooked with a small amount of egg and veggies, they mixed up our orders multiple times. Teriyaki is the only hung that has been consistently good. I mean it's no upscale restaurant but being a food chain you would expect it to be at least good and consistent. They definitely have some stuff to work out. Unless you go inside and watch them give you your food I wouldn't order through the drive through. My husband likes Chinese food so I keep giving this Panda a chance. HOWEVER, this Panda has consistently had ongoing problems. The food is not great, the portions are inconsistent size, the orders are always wrong or they are out of something and charge you for it anyway. This was all before Covid 19. Now they have an abbreviated menu and still the food is not great compared to other Pandas and orders are still wrong when you get home. You know-we're new to the area. But our children love Panda Express. So we eat here a lot. Only 1 time have i had a pleasant experience with the staff. There is this girl who is rude. All the time. I got her through the drive thru tonight (which it was open so that's a miracle). She rudely told me she put sweet and sour in the bag. I didn't see it. So to be sure i was going to ask for some anyways. She must have sensed that because she rudely asked how many and then brought it to me. Good thing because she didn't put sweet and sour in the bag. And then they forgot one of my entrees. I called them and got one of the nice guys. He took my info and said next time i come they will fulfill my order at no charge. We'll see. The restaurant has always been clean. I saw a review that it wasn't. That's never been an issue with us and we come often. The Chicken and green bean entree is never and i mean never there. It's ridiculous. It's a favorite to customers. It should always be stocked and when i ask if it's available- or why it's not i shouldn't be treated rudely. "It's not so what does it matter?" Yea that was said to me before. I don't know if this girl is the manager-if she is she shouldn't be. She is always there and always takes point to answer a question even when it's not her that i asked. I do imagine that the stocking issues and staffing issues com from the top.
