Rios Mexican Grill is one of those hidden gems you're so happy to stumble upon on a nice summer…read moreday. It's essentially a roadside taco stand, but don't let that fool you - the food is incredibly fresh and full of flavor. It feels very local and family-run, which adds to the charm. We visited last August during a family trip, and the fact that my mom, who usually avoids roadside food spots, was the one who recommended it says everything. We were honestly shocked (in the best way). Ordering is simple: you place your order, get a number, and wait for your food. There are benches available for seating, though no bathrooms, so it's good to plan accordingly. We ordered a variety of items - tacos, burritos, quesadillas, chips with salsa, and Jarritos, and were happy with everything. The portions were generous, the ingredients tasted fresh, and everything was well-prepared. I even enjoyed some leftovers the next day! If you're looking for delicious, no-frills Mexican food from a local spot, Rios Mexican Grill is definitely worth checking out.

You order at the counter or a kiosk, they hand you an in-house pager and when it flashes, you get your food....and for this they guilt you for a tip at the time of payment... On top of that, there is no fountain drinks, you fetch your own out of a cooler. I ordered a steak burrito and my wife ordered the taco bowl. Again, had to get your own utensils from the counter. After I took the foil off the burrito, it immediately began to un-wrap and fall apart into the foil...(for that I could have ordered the burrito bowl)....was very difficult to eat. The taco bowl was just ok. Bottom line, the food was far short of great....mediocre at best. Sorry, won't be coming back.

As La Porte residents, Culver's La Porte is the only fast/fast casual food we frequent. Why? First…read moreof all, we feel Culver's offers better quality and better tasting products and more variety over other hamburger franchise competitors-and their custard is amazing! Secondly, and even more importantly, this location has stellar ownership/management! The difference between the operations here and other Culver's, or for any other of our local fast food places is remarkably apparent. Team members are professional, friendly, hard working, and consistent. The place is clean and gives off vibes as "a well oiled machine," Management is visible and and the staff seems to want to please and uphold standards. Do they make mistakes? Well, I can't say we ever had an order mix-up, but there have been errors on special requests, for example, "leave the cheese off the salad." So they make mistakes like we all do, but when we mention it they immediately bring it to the attention of the kitchen, make the order right, and are more diligent the next time. You won't get an "I don't care" attitude here, but always a friendly greeting and witness to some folks who are hustling to provide great service. Finally, Culver's La Porte is very community minded. They frequently have "Give Back" days/nights where a percentage of all orders is used to fundraise for local organizations or causes. No special coupon is needed. In fact, everytime we go we ask if it's a Give Back event and if it is, we just tell them to put our receipt in with the other supporters. That's it! Sometimes Give Back nights mean longer lines, but they just roll with it. Case in point, they recently held a huge Give Back event to help support the recovery of a county officer critically wounded on duty. The store was slammed with customers ALL Day! I went in at 7:45 PM, was greeted at the counter with a warm welcome, big smile, and a detailed description of the flavor of the day. As I waited on my order, I noticed the young woman who had waited on me was getting ready to leave. As she was saying good-bye to fellow team members, she had a smiley, cheerful disposition and casually mentioned she had been there for over 12 hours, not in a complaining way, but almost like she was proud! I think that is a perfect example to illustrate what we've come to expect at the La Porte Culver's.

Wife offered taste, I was pleasantly surprised because I thought it would be minced fish but it was the real deal. Next time I'll be ordering the cod but hopefully the walleye will be back.
