    Biscuit breakfast sandwiches
    Jeremy B.

Deniza's is a cute little Chicago-like hot dog stand in an old Dairy Queen. It's a counter service small restaurant so you'll want to plan to take your food to go or they have a few picnic tables outside. The service was super friendly and quick. I went during their soft-opening weekend and grabbed a few breakfast sandwiches. The biscuits were buttery and delicious with the perfect amount of meat and cheese and a single fried egg. Can't wait to try their lunch menu!

Meatball sub and some delicious sides (mushrooms, onion rings and fries)

We ordered Chicago Dogs. The bun was rock hard. Clearly it was days old. Asked for extra ice, got no ice. We won't be back.

The are supposedly famous for their strawberry shakes so that's what I tried. According to the gal working the window, they use fresh strawberries which draws the attention of a lot of people. The shake was great but I will admit that the big strawberry chunks sometimes made it difficult to sip from the straw. Definitely hope to come back to try some ice cream though because they have some fun and unique flavors!

We ordered the triple scoop in a cup. I wouldn't suggest doing that. We got two full scoops and 1/4 of a scoop. So, definitely get two scoops max. But, the ice cream was incredibly delicious! Everything is made in house. So, you get one of a kind flavors. Which, I loved. Coffee lovers-This ice cream was rich, dense, and decadent! It tasted like an Affogato. My mom savored every last nibble. Amareto Cherry-This ice cream was fun and flavorful. It was excellent! Unfortunately, all you could taste was the maraschino cherries. Which, made for a tasty treat. But, my dad was missing the amareto. Tennessee Toffee- This ice cream was creamy, dreamy, and delicious! I couldn't get enough of it. It was salty, sweet, and savory all in one bite! The toffee was luscious, smooth, and decadent. It was pure heaven. The ice cream was rich and velvety with strong notes of caramel, cocoa nibs, coffee, and most of all Tennessee whisky. But, not in an overpowering way. In, an artistic way. Pure joy in a scoop! So, if you're looking for a new ice cream shop. Come here! You won't regret it.

I love this place!…read more In our home, all of the adults are assigned a night when they have to prepare dinner. My night is Thursday. After working Summer School today from 7:30 to 4pm, I really was NOT feeling standing in front of a stove. I had a taste for a chili dog , so I headed straight to Carlson's Drive In when I got off work. I ordered 6 Chicago Dogs, 4 Chili Dogs with extra onions (I had one brought to me while I waited for my order), a cheeseburger with everything (one daughter doesn't like hotdogs) and a grilled cheese sandwich (her daughter doesn't either). I also had a frosty cold mug of root beer . The fact that most of the wait staff and some of the kitchen staff are MCHS students was an added bonus. I was confident that I would be taken care of. When I got home, the family tore into that food like a school of piranha . Carlson's Drive In got high marks from my family today! They ALWAYS get high marks from me!

I got the chili dog, fries and bug mug of root beer, and it was incredibly delicious, and what's best is the prices seem to be immune to inflation. The vibes of the area are your classic drive in style (we chose to sit at tables outside as opposed to stay in car though). I also nibbled on my family's burger, hot dogs, and chicken strips--all incredibly tasty. The service was timely, kind, and welcoming.

Fortunately Portillo's offers both and it was recommended by locals and previous travelers to make this my one restaurant to try both. I arrived on foot on a Saturday before 10pm and there was a long line to order on the kiosks and a security guard by the door. The restaurant has two floors of seating with dated decor all around, assumingly part of the intended vibe of the establishment. The first floor seating was all taken but there were plenty of tables available on the second floor. I was able to try Portillo's hot dog and Italian beef sandwich. The hot dog included mustard, relish, celery salt, freshly chopped onions, sliced tomatoes, pickle, and peppers on a poppy seed bun. The paper wrapper was strategically wrapped around the Chicago dog inside out, knowing that the logo would be clearly visible when people take pictures of the unwrapped hot dog. I ordered a regular hot dog but probably should've ordered a jumbo hot dog for a dollar more since then regular was tiny; for comparison it was definitely smaller than a Costco hot dog. Although the toppings complemented the hot dog well, the bun was soggy from being wrapped in the paper for only a few minutes. The standard big Italian beef sandwich (slightly wet) was much larger for more than double the price of the hot dog, with no Portillo's branding on that wrapper. I was a little too excited to order this that I forgot to add sweet and hot peppers, but the sandwich still tasted very good. After ordering I realized I probably should've ordered the gravy on the side so I can dip the sandwich more, but again it was still very good. For dessert I tried the lemon cake slice and strawberry shortcake. The lemon cake was a little dry and really sweet and the strawberry shortcake had a little too much mascarpone cheese whipped topping for my liking, but of course I didn't have to finish it all. Portillo's is a good option for casual fast food and for travelers to try. I definitely prefer the Italian beef sandwich over the Chicago dog, but that is my personal preference. For a sweet treat, the strawberry shortcake is a nice option if no other dessert places are nearby. To save time during peak hours, it may be a good idea to order ahead on the mobile app.

November 6, 2024, approximately 2:41 P.M…read more I can understand why so many restaurants are going out of business if customer service is anything like I experienced at the "Boathouse Grill" in Michigan City, IN yesterday. My two granddaughter's and I stopped there for a sandwich after shopping at the Lighthouse Mall. To say the woman that took our orders was unfriendly, is an understatement. She was an older woman with short hair. My granddaughter ordered a Patty Melt on white bread, this woman's response was "we don't have white bread." My granddaughter asked for a substitution because she doesn't like rye bread. Answer: "that's all we have." Did not offer to put it on a hamburger bun, which is white bread. I ordered a salad. I was told "no salad's today." I then ordered a fish sandwich and a cheeseburger, with two sides of mayonnaise, one for fish and one for cheeseburger. The woman who was cooking brought one side of mayonnaise. When I told her I needed another, her response "I already gave you one." The food was okay, service TERRIBLE. I would never go back. I'm in the restaurant business and would never treat customers the way we were treated yesterday. And to add insult to injury, I was charged .50 for a cup of water. This is the worse $27.90 (my check) that I will never see again! Thelma J. Garcia tgarcia701@comcast.net
