Panda Garden in New Kent is a hometown staple and a stop we have to make every time we come back. No exceptions. A quick call in order gave us just enough time to run into Food Lion for a Ukrop's watermelon, a Richmond area classic for those who know, and then a short walk over to pick up what might be the best takeout in the area. Walking in always feels the same. Warm and familiar. The person at the register was super friendly and the checkout was easy. All around the register were the cutest anime style mystery box collectibles that my niece would have spent her entire paycheck on without blinking. We avoided the temptation and headed out. Everything was packaged individually and still hot and fresh by the time we got home. The beef and broccoli was still one of the best we have had anywhere. Cooked to perfection with a dark sauce so good you would want to buy it separately just to pour over rice. The shrimp egg foo young was cooked well. I am pretty strict when it comes to egg foo young and while the gravy was not as rich and ran a little dark for my liking it was good nonetheless. The fortune cookies were not the freshest in the bag which was a slight disappointment but an easy thing to get over. Sauces were in ample supply and more were available at the register if needed. Forks were tucked in the bag which made it easy to sneak a sample before even getting home. Three of us ate and still had leftovers for the next day. The portions were large and it was so good. I've been here twice. The first time was pretty good. Nice Chinese takeout. Was happy to find a Chinese place in the vast expanse that is Quinton, VA. Second time... my pork fried rice had little plastic bits in it... i really looked closely and it appears to be the corner of soy sauce packets... about 8 of them. We ordered food here it was absolutely the worst Chinese food i've ever eaten. It was tough and dry, i ordered the sweet & sour chicken. Hubby ate 2 bites of his chicken fried rice and threw it out. Two nights ago I was ready for good Chinese food, and made my way to PG. Looking at the menu, I noticed Fried Scallops ($3.95) under Appetizers. I want. But when I got home I was sorely disappointed to find fake Scallops. Look at my photos. Scallops do not come in such a uniform shape and size. Fake Scallops! I've ordered takeout from Panda Garden a few times in the past 2 years. The food had been okay, nothing to rave about (for evenings you don't want to cook and may want Chinese food). But what really upset me and made me change my mind about ordering from this restaurant again is the dishonesty factor related to my last takeout phone order. The woman who is at the front counter the past few times that I've gone to pick up my food (and who I assume is the owner) rounded up on the charge for my order. Rather than charging me the exact price as printed on their menu and adding sales/meals tax, she rounded up. The price difference between what it should have cost and what she rounded up to was more than a dollar. But it wasn't so much about the money I was upset about, as it was more because of her dishonesty. read more

My kids enjoyed the food. Chicken and broccoli and a large fried rice. About $18. I love New Kent. We are a military family. I have lived all over. I can honestly say NK is lacking in decent restaurants. I haven't been to every restaurant. Dominos, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Wendy's are all a no go. Terrible service and mostly wrong orders.Miltons, Prima,third base, colonial kitchen were all fine. There really isn't anything noteworthy or amazing in this general area. Bummer..... Used to come to panda garden before they burned down and it was pretty decent but now in 2023 they have lost they're quality of food, chicken tastes like its been microwaved, the white rice tastes very old, food took about 25 mins, sadly wont be coming back to waste my money. read more

So, as you're driving down I-64 there are TWO cheap takeout joints in New Kent County and both are conveniently located within a mile of the interstate. Both are all-around solid, this one being closer to Richmond off of Exit 205 (the other is closer to Williamsburg off of Exit 214). I've now been to this location twice and have been pleased both times. The szechuan chicken, which is one of my favorite take out dishes, was priced well for the portion (2 meals worth) and had a distinctive szechuan flavor. Service has been quick and really friendly. Nothing too different from most take out places, but nothing to be weary of if you're in the mood for cheap Chinese mood. read more

Probably the worst Chinese food we've ever had. Kung Po Chicken had breaded chicken which in itself was bad enough but it was dry because of the breading. Never have had Kung Po without sliced chicken meat. Not a very flavorful presentation. We will not be back. read more

I've been eating here for a pretty long time. It's the only chinese place in the Bottoms Bridge area, so be thankful it's a good one! Standard chinese fare, there's a few tables inside but it's definitely a take out place. Pickup only, sadly no delivery. The food is really good. The egg drop soup and the steamed veggies with chicken have fueled me plenty of times. Also, the combination meals are HUGE and come with fried rice and an egg roll. Excellent General Tso's chicken. I absolutely love this place. So much better than other Chinese places I've been. I too have asked for extra spicy, and I think they're used to people just THINKING they want spicy. When they understand you really mean it, they add it or provide extra spice on the side. Easier to eat and adjust too mild rather than too hot. I'm getting hungry just thinking about their food. There is also tea provided while you're waiting, or just to take with you. The only times I've waited are when I drop in, rather than call ahead, lol. read more
