At one time when it was called Panda West, before new management took over, it was always a good, consistent experience. Since then, it has been terrible. Service is never good, wait long for food, very slow, staff overwhelmed, orders are wrong, and the prices have gone up quite a bit. This is the real deal. Chinese food like you get in NYC . Ok if you are Chinese, maybe that too isn't "real" Chinese food like you get in mainland China, but for anyone on the East Coast of the USA, NYC sets the standard. If you like Shun Lee West on the Upper West Side, you'll like Panda. I tend to order out for pick up from this place when I am in the area. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. It's good food, better than many places, but not fantastic. Great option for people staying at one of the nearby hotels. I have ordered from there 5+ times and never had an issue. I have tried beef, chicken and bean curd dishes. Last night was Beef with various vegetables with brown rice. I was afraid it might be a bit bland, but it was well seasoned with a nice brown sauce. read more

I am EXTREMELY pleased to write this updated review regarding our ONCE FAVORITE, then horrible and now excellent place again! My wife and I visited this week in the hopes that things have improved. The answer, YES,,,, IN A BIG WAY... The House Special Duck was excellent along with the chicken with cashew nut and the moo shu pork. Tea NICE AND HOT.... I told the owner that we are pleased that after a long absence that we will be back again as regulars. Not sure if this was accidental or not, but a bit too much salt in all the dishes will prompt us to request no salt on next visit. A solid Chinese restaurant choice for lunch in the culinary mecca known as Danbury. The restaurant is well-run, clean, and the quality of the food is good. The owners/cooks are Chinese so I'm going to recommend sticking with the Chinese menu options and avoiding the sushi. They do a great job with their hot sour soup, ginger chicken with string beans, and their tangerine chicken which has nice chunks of meat without excess breading. One negative: sometimes the cook uses way too much oil. I swear the beef in my beef brocoli dish was deep fried. Not necessary! read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience at Panda Garden! They esteem themselves to be a Chinese/Japanese restaurant, and they stick to it by presenting 2 wholly different menus to you, with a medium to high range of options. Granted, I played it safe and got Chicken Lo Mein with Wonton Soup, which were both delicious! They come out with friend noodles and orange sauce to much on while your food is prepared, which by the way, was very fast in my experience! The restaurant really need to work on their customer service skills. Did a take out on a Friday and they forgot to give me the rice that came with the entree. So I decided to call them and point their mistake out. The first person said ..the rice is there. You prob didn't see it. Then she transferred me to the manager who had zero customer skills. No wonder the other girl was rude. So the manager said, next time you come i will give you two rice even if you need one. That's all I can do...well, great. That was really helpful and great customer service as a manager. No apologies, then telling me that I am lying about the for freaking $2 rice ( which was not important)..it was the inconvenience of going out with two lil kids) once I got home to get rice. As far as Chinese food in this area goes, Panda House is a solid effort. The food is tasty and as others have noted, not overly drenched in sauces. The prices here are reasonable and I've never had an issue with the service. Worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

WORST Customer Service! Ordered take out from them they forgot three orders of sushi and when i called them to tell them they didn't believe me and were very rude about it. I usually quickly peek in the bag to make sure everything is accounted for but i forgot to this time because it was stapled shut. So she put me on hold then the manager asked if she could take my order. I informed her that I already placed and picked up my order and that i didn't receive the sushi i ordered. she then asked do you have your sushi? I responded, no i do not and she said i have it here. so i drove back to pick it up and they didn't even throw in some free fortune cookies or anything. My father always wants to come here or get takeout when he visits, and for good reason: it is good, reliable and tasty. The dishes are well prepared and the service is prompt and friendly. I have only had sushi here once; good but I prefer ordering it at a dedicated sushi establishment. Not an issue with Panda, just my preference. Panda House needs to step outside of their box and start serving really f-ing good AUTHENTIC chinese food. because they can. and its so much better than the stuff currently on their menu. this is not freakin PF changs. if you want americanized crap then go there. the sushi is gross- so skip that. and skip the overly sweet- thick sauces on whatever. however- DO ask them to prepare something not on the menu...to celebrate chinese new year this year- we had them prepare fish shanghai style (whole-fried-with all the special stuff)- see attached pic= outstanding. i so wish restaurants would stick to what they know- danbury is in need of good chinese. give us some proper dim sum. everybody shares. i would love a place that serves a proper hot pot for the table. really delicious seafood dishes. noodles. aged tofu. spring rolls. seasonal offerings...ie soft shell crab. veggies. etc. order all the good stuff. serve on tables equipped with lazy susan. and go to town. come on panda house. give me some cantonese... or shanghai prepared food! you can... and people will love it so much more!!! read more

We were new to the area and stopped here for dinner by chance. It was a sit in the restaurant meal and it was wonderful! It was so good that we started using the take out a few times. The first few times were ok, not the best we have had, but not bad. One thing we did notice was that even though one meal we kept on ordering over and over again, what we got was different each time. I have to echo what the most recent reviewers have said about this place. My family & I have stopped here while traveling east through Connecticut to our home every year for the past 5 or so. And every we marvel at the consistency of this restaurant. Well that all ended today. The dining room, usually pretty full at dinner time, had 4 tables sat at 7:30pm. Granted it's a Sunday but stilll. I am not exactly a stickler for great service but our waiter was downright rude & borderline clueless about dealing with customers. My wife's water glass had lipstick on it - when she reluctantly pointed out this fact, he said "so you need another?" Um, "sorry" is usually a decent lead in this situation, bro. The food wasn't a spectacular failure, maybe a little oilier and, well, average than in past trips. The diced chicken w/ peanuts came with just chicken, peanuts & chili peppers - no celery or peppers a la usual Kung Pao from other Chinese joints. Amazing Chicken - not really. Everything else, so so. If you live locally, be warned to look for other options. read more

I had the moshoo pork. The food was decent and it was well presented. My dining companions faired worse with below average sesame chicken, tangerine chicken and sushi. The soup we ordered never came, and we had to ask to have it removed from our check (we had notified the wait staff before the check came.) We had a party of 8, so there was mandatory 10% tip. Unfortunately the service, food and attitude of the wait staff warranted far less. The whole experience could be improved with minor efforts by staff and management to improve the service and food. read more

Have been eating in and taking out from here in the past year. Why does it get 3 stars? It's pretty expensive for the standard Japanese/Chinese food you get. They did have Uni (sea urchin sushi) in house last time I dined in, so that was a plus! Ordered the Shrimp with Mayo Sauce last time I did take out. That order was very tasty, rich, and filling. Living out of NY where there is zero options for decent Chinese food, Panda House was always one of our go to restaurants whenever we visited our daughter--until last night. When we walked in we noticed the decor was redone with much nicer chairs and the menu was different from the past. We proceeded to order our usual dishes and were extremely disappointed with everything. The General Chou was half the size. We always had leftovers to take home but not this time. We also had a sizzling shrimp dish also half the size. All the dishes were swimming in sauce. It also took twice as long to get the food and when I paid the bill my credit card didn't come back. When I got up to tell the women at the desk I found my card on the floor by the bar. Unfortunately the changes made were for the better of the decor and not for the food. We were long time customers of this restaurant. Hadn't been there for a while and decided to go today......first, got surprised that it wasn't as crowded as it used to be in the past, on a Friday night. But then I understood the reason. We ordered a meal with chicken, and another with meat. Both were horrible.....they put so much stuff on them to make them soft (meat tenderizers, or similar things), that they looked like jelly, and tasteless. But that's not all.... the waiter brought 2 bowls of rice, that were part of the meal. We then asked for an extra one, and his answer was "you should have told me before, so that I could bring them all at once" WHAT !?!?!?!? This is ridiculous.... so why do we need a waiter ? What happened to this place? I first moved to the area in the early 2000's, and dined here regularly. It was a sure thing in terms of quality and service. My wife and I ordered takeout this evening, and it was basically inedible. The wonton soup was tasteless, and the 2 entrees tasted like they were cooked with rancid oil.
