We stumbled upon this storefront while walking around Liliuokalani Gardens. We came right as they opened and the aunties running the store were very welcoming (and helpful; they cut open the wrapper for us so we wouldn't have trouble with it sticking to the paleta). Horchata chia paleta was incredibly creamy and the chia seeds added a nice texture. The flavor was perfectly balanced, not overly sweet or icy. We're very surprised at the lack of social media coverage & reviews. We hope this place gains more traction (at least on the internet) because they deserve all the business. My partner and I were incredibly sad to not be able to bring some back home with us to Oahu. This is a place we'd absolutely re-visit and recommend to others.

Great little spot at the park, perfect for a hot day. The popsicles were delish and the ladies working were very sweet. I will definitely return

Cute little air conditioned hole in the wall with Latin American Paletas in local flavors like; Lychee, Li hung Mui, Lilikoi, Coconut, Kabocha Date, Guava, Banana, Mango, etc. This is just a peek at the flavors. They also have more interesting combinations like chili mango, coconut raisin, cucumber mint, grapefruit, Kiwi, lemon lime papaya, sweet potato, acorn squash, avocado pineapple, carrot cake, cranberry Macnut cream, eggnog, guava cream, haupia, horchata- Chai, Jaboticaba Beet, lemon lime avocado, lilikoi tangerine cream, mocha coffee, peanut butter chocolate, tri-melon etc. Again this is just a few of their many combinations. Flavors are based on daily availability. Check it out if you've been walking the gardens or driving by on Banyan. Nice people with a cool affordable refreshing treat.

Pandamonia's Paletas was highlight of the trip for sure! Popsicle heaven, like a Kid in a popsicle shop. I've never seen so many flavors, and easily the best tasting and texture of popsicles I've ever had. We had 3, coconut (haupia), mango cream, and horchata (with chia and rice), all were great. All made by hand right there in their shop, and nearly every flavor is made from whole fresh fruits and local ingredients. Ask to see how they're made and you'll truly appreciate the time effort and passion that goes into each one. To think, I stumbled across this on a morning run, otherwise I never would have found this gem! Mahalo to the friendly guy who makes them with his buddy (starts with a M and I would butcher the spelling if I tried!) who let us hang out in the AC, and helped explain each of the interesting fruits and flavors we weren't familiar with. These guys are doing it so right, and I hope they get some crazy exposure and success on the island and beyond! Check it out!

My "Aunty" Kay brought some lychee paletas over for my mom and I to try. Wow! We loved them! They were very sweet, but we thought they tasted wonderful. The lychee paletas had pieces of fresh fruit in them. They were heavenly! My mom and I loved them so much that we wanted to share our "discovery" with our friends. We went there today and bought 36 paletas as gifts for friends. Pandamonia's Paleta Palace has paletas with and without dairy. The left side of the case contains dairy, and the right does not. (I only took a photo of the left/dairy side of the case.) There is a large selection of flavors. The current seasonal flavors are lychee and mango. Another popular flavor that is not seasonal is the passion fruit (lilikoi). The woman there, Lianne, was very friendly, warm, and kind. We had a wonderful conversation with her. Lianne packed the individually-wrapped paletas in Ziplock bags with ice for me. That was a very considerate touch. Pandamonia's Paleta Palace is located at the ground level of the Alii Ice Plant. At first I went up the stairs to what looked like a window, but it was actually at ground level on the right side with tables and chairs outside. There is a door to enter and order. Inside is small but charming, like an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. They also serve ice cream, but I did not look at the ice cream flavors. I was too focused on the paletas. I'm sure the ice cream is wonderful, too! I highly recommend Pandamonia's Paleta Palace for paletas or ice cream! What a hidden gem!!!

Crack seed. For us…read morelocals in Hawai'i, these snacks were childhood staples. The crack seed store, a classic place where vibes of nostalgia are generated every time I walk into one. 'Cause I grew-up with li hing mui and arare. There's a small number of locally-owned crack seed shops on the Big Island of Hawai'i and in Hawai'i in general. This is one of them, the "local-style candy store" for an island boy like me. I enter 5-Spice, located in East Hawai'i after the intersection of Kilauea Ave and W Puainako St, heading south. I remember frequenting this business when it used to be at Puainako Town Center. Their popularity over the years gave them the ability to move to a larger space. Now independently located in their own building with ample parking. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Would I be able to control myself, holding onto what's desired without adding anything extra? It's always impossible for me to do so. Everytime. Yummy preserved items in large display jars, others placed in vacuum sealed bags. All priced by-the-ounce. I become curious, wanting to taste it again. I go to my favorites, seeking them first while browsing through the visual display of many others. Cracked seed goodness on one side, bagged candies and sweets on the other. I've seen this all before yet, I stand still with the desire to place it all in my hands. And I sure do, my hands are full. I mail them to the U.S. mainland in care packages, travel to the neighbor-islands as omiyage, and personally enjoy them at work or at home as snacks. They make great gifts for friends and coworkers too. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Let's talk about food, where mouth-watering plates and yummy burgers are prepared. Bentos are packed to-go on the countertop. Offering an extensive menu for a take-out, all made to enjoy outside on picnic tables or elsewhere. Daily specials are available along with catering + platters too. Front service by the team at the counter is pleasant, attentive. Gratitude is always extended for every purchase. Comfortable, courteous, welcoming. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "Meat Jun Plate" A light egg batter and thinly sliced beef served in an upscale fashion due to care in preparation and quality of flavor. The soft and indulgent texture of each meat jun piece, perfectly seasoned + cooked. Your choice of tossed greens, purple sweet potato or macaroni salad. "Honey Chicken Plate" Featuring a crazy yummy sweet and savory glaze, sticky and glossy. This sauce, this recipe creation is glorious. Chicken pieces are tender yet slightly crispy on the exterior. "Bibimbap" Freshly made Korean banchan, thinly sliced seasoned beef over white rice. I pour the gochujang over everything and mix-in the sunny side egg, bringing forward a creamy texture along with heat + depth. Choose the sweet potato salad as your side. "Gravy Burger Combo w/ French Fries" This massive burger patty is filling, satisfying. Charred and smothered in rich brown gravy served with lettuce and mayo. Choose the sweet bread bun, the seasoned salt on their fries makes all the difference. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Delicious food to-go with generous portions, sealed bags of cracked seed items + sweet treats at 5-Spice. For enjoyment at home, to share at work, gifts or omiyage. Find this charm, this unique and tasty experience on the Big Island of Hawai'i - East side. Locally owned and operated.
