Walked by and adopted to look at the menu on the window - people inside looked happy i was between the beef stew and chicken sandwich- staff recommended beef stew- and i got it to go and ate it at home and wow - perfect fall weather meal! Having recently moved here I was on the hunt for a place with good stew- I stumbled upon Pane from heaven and ordered the beef stew- yes! I found the best stew in Vancouver! Post gym, I was in need of a caffeine fix. My plan was to try Koko Monk, but they were still closed at 10:02. Typically leisurely Kitsilano opening. *eye roll* Pane From Heaven is just around the corner on Chestnut st. Cute Cafe and bakery with a pleathera of options. I noticed they have healthy choices which is especially appreciated. Wonderful sounding fruit and veggie shakes, beautiful prepackaged chicken salads, to go breakfast sandwiches (unfortunately white English muffin with mayo), and tons of baked goods. I will definitely have to come back with an appetite. I wanted a simple espresso and the option was a Espresso Ristretto. $2.50 for a double shot. Pretty reasonable price. I am honestly more used to Starbucks espresso, but I am sure they are not amazing in the league of espressos. Certainly I am not a connoisseur of espresso, but I did fine P.F.H's espresso to be much more creamy than Starbucks!! It was also more bitter. I like my espresso straight up, no sugar, and therefore didn't like it more bitter. I plan on trying more cafes to work on my espresso palate. Overall, a pretty average coffee shop in a beautiful area of town. The service was friendly, and the Cranberry Scone baked fresh in house was delicious. However, other cafes up on fourth offer superior coffee. In addition, the vibe is pretty uninspiring. My american nonetheless left me pleased, as I just enjoyed the short walk down to Kits beach to enjoy the sunset with a view. I'll be back to try the weekend waffles! I love this place. I visit it once a week -- usually after visiting my chiropractor, who is in the same area. My fav is the lemon grass chicken panini. It has a great balance. The soups are fantastic. I recommend the chicken curry soup. They serve good coffee, which you can usually get with a choice of a muffin for $3.25. The pastry is fantastic. I tried their zuccini muffin once, and it actually tasted good. The staff is always friendly and helpful. There are newspapers available, and you can chill here. WiFi is free, but you need to ask staff for the password. read more

Staff seem extremely friendly however, I overheard them badmouthing the customers, saying how they can't stand their attitude. This is a great spot for a quick lunch in a quiet area. Winter isn't bad but I bet it's really nice in the summer when you sit outside. Try the turkey breast panini. Food is alright. I witnessed them spray windex into the glass display case. Really unsanitary as the windex fell onto the food. There was a child running around behind the counter and climbing onto places. Staff were not very friendly and overall, I was very disappointed (mostly because of the windex) would much rather prefer 49th parallel Note to others: 49th parallel is right on 4th Avenue and it is much better. Came here today in need of a quick lunch. Saw the sign outside that stated their lunch special was a panini and soup for $7.95 or 1/2 panini and soup or salad for $6.95. There was a line to order but it moved fairly quickly. Sandwiches cost around $7 and large containers of salad are $4-5. They also have pasta that is around $8. I ordered a turkey panini and pasta salad. The panini was large and on delicious ciabatta bread. There was plenty of turkey and cheese and I felt it to be a good value at $7.75. I didn't get mine grilled as I was taking it to go and didn't want to wait. The pasta salad was $4 and is a very large portion. Unfortunately the pasta is quite over cooked and so it, combined with mushy grilled red peppers doesn't make for a delicious dish. I would recommend checking out their greek salad or chickpea salad instead. With the prices and extremely close proximity to my work, I think this will be my new go-to lunch spot. They also have $2 drink specials for each day of the week. My only wish (other than properly cooked pasta) is that they post what is in the sandwiches before the ordering counter, especially at a busy lunch hour. The pastrami includes artichoke spread and hummus and I totally would have ordered it instead if I had known. Oh well! Next time! read more

I am not sure what folks have seen in this place. Firstly, as a previous reviewer pointed out the atmosphere is woeful. Zero character in an area where you have to try hard not to have some. Secondly, and more importantly, the hygiene is questionable here. I recently ordered a pannini, and was surprised to find several black hairs. Once again, I was waiting for my female friend to have one of her few beauty mini makeovers completed. I'm always amazed at how many times a woman can go to a salon and never get tired of it. I guess the game of staying beautiful is like the game of boxing - just keep taking and giving shots until you're numb in the brain... Don't know where I was going with that one... Anyway, while I was waiting, I went down the road from the salon to a small café called Pane From Heaven. It has a few seats outside in a wonderful neighborhood in the west end. Hidden by the shade of the elm trees, this place welcomes you with it's down to earth atmosphere and great smells from the kitchen. It's a coffee shop that specializes in deli type treats. They have waffles on the weekend that rival the ones I ate at Global Restaurant downtown. They're thick and come with caramel and whip cream and bananas. They're there only on the weekend, so no mid-week waffle love for you. Their best feature is their tandori chicken sandwich on red pepper bread. Delicious! They heat it up for you and it melts in your mouth. They also have fruit and nut scones that are baked fresh every day. This place is out of the way, but worth the trip. They have great (and beautiful) lattes and coffees with loads of snacks such as sandwiches to eat all reasonably priced so you can grab a quick breakfast/lunch for well under $10. People here are very nice and helpful. Not rushed and rude service like at many Starbucks or chain coffee shops. The wifi is problematic though... and sometimes seating is tough. I've been enjoying the soups, sandwiches and coffee at Pane From Heaven for three years. I Love the affordability and freshness of everything they make. This family run business cares about their customers. Ranu and Vaun are welcoming and personable. I will be moving out off the area so will miss my regular visits, almost daily at times, but will make extra special effort to visit them. I feel so grateful for how they have taken the time to get to know me by name and even their interest in some of the projects I have been working on. The staff are lovely as well. read more

Walked in and was greeted warmly by the owner. She talked to me like I was a long lost friend, I felt immediately at home. I loved the smells of the cafe and all the colours. I went in for a latte but ended up ordering a soup (the most delicious soup I have had in ????). It was a Moroccan soup. Not to spicy, so tasty and I would have had a second bowl but I wanted to save room for the lasagna. Another winner. Yikes. This is my new favourite place. The staff from Lululemon came in so I decided to stay longer and watch the crowd. Interesting banter all around me. I love the energy of Pane. I ended up ordering three cookies to take with me on a walk down to the beach a few blocks away. The only drawback is that it is too far to walk there and I have to drive.
