Greek Salad with Chicken and Rice Soup
    Lynda H.

Panera is one of those places where I always feel I can depend on to be consistent in flavor. I was a bit disappointed with this restaurant and why I only gave it three stars. First of all, the restaurant was clean, and the staff was helpful. Also, we didn't have to wait long for our order. I ordered the greek salad with the Chicken Rice soup. The soup was yummy. The bread was hard (not sure why they can't put it in the microwave for a couple minutes to soften), but it was fine when I dipped it in the soup. What I had an issue with was the greek salad. Everything was fresh, but the salad dressing had no taste. I've ordered this salad several times at our Panera in Indiana and it was always delicious. I should have asked them for more dressing, but not sure that would have helped. Maybe I'll try something else when I'm in the area again.

Awful... a friend, bless them, offered to get us dinner tonight, my husbands chicken sub had barely any chicken on it, my flatbread the same thing!! The kids chicken avocado had more chicken on it than either one of the ADULT entrees. Awful!!

Paid $10 for this and the sandwich is smaller than the cup of soup.

I Paid $10 for this and the sandwich is smaller than the cup of soup. This Panera keeps ripping me off.

Panera makes me happy, happy makes me Panera.

One of my favorite paneras that I've been to. I used to go all the time in New Jersey and I've only been to one Panera since I moved to alabama. It was disappointing and it led me believe that, the quality might just be may be subpar in this state. Not this location! What a redeeming experience. This Panera had high ceilings, fast wifi, tons of sunny seating space, and friendly servers. The only downside was one that's common to most paneras and that is the dirty floors. I assume that's typical of a coffee shop that attracts people who spend hours sitting eating and working in one spot. They could definitely keep it more clean to get a 5th star from me! Will be back and definitely recommend.

My food was good, but way overpriced. Plus, no sweet tea. It's the south. You got to have sweet tea.

Ask the Community - Panera Bread

So... I've attempted to go to Panera in Athens, AL a couple times this week. There are signs on the door that say "CAFE CLOSED" and a bunch of smaller writing I couldn't read from my car.…

It has been about a month since I was up there, but I believe just the inside dining is closed.

Great customer service and I greatly appreciate their accountability/ willingness to make up for our previous visit. Last night we started with the crab croquettes, STELLAR. Absolutely loved and devoured these. The crunch on the croquette was to die for, topped with a refreshing crab salad, perfect. For my entree, I had the lamb rack with house potatoes & broccolini. My boyfriend had the blackened catfish with the grits. Both dishes were phenomenal . To finish up we tried their new chocolate strawberry bread pudding, so rich and delicious. This restaurant is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Northern Alabama. Go give them a try! We'll 100% be back.

This seemed to want to be a foodie destination. The half fried chicken included a small drumstick, small wing, piece of breast, and another piece that was unidentifiable but might have been a thigh. It had a spicy sweet sauce covering, which we opted to have on the side. That was a good choice because the hint of Cayenne was still too much for one diner. We asked about the slaw -- whether it was had a cream or vinegar dressing. The server described it as a "creamy vinegar." It made no difference because the dressing was so understated that the side tasted more like chopped cabbage than anything else. Disappointing. Finally, I asked the server whether the grilled green beans were actually that. I was more curious than anything else because grilled green beans would be would take longer to cook. She said yes, they were grilled. I don't think so. They came out fairly quickly and were pretty universally blackened on one side. Once our food was delivered, we never saw our server again until I asked her for the check. So, what I believe was intended to be an elevated dining experience was simply under executed.

Since it is in the main part of downtown, super close parking is a bit of a big ask; we parked at a public government building about two blocks down and walked over. The inside is very small and only has a couple of two-seater tables and one bench setup, but there are multiple nice metal tables outside to sit at if the weather is good. Fortunately, we lucked out in that regard, as it was a nice day. The inside of the restaurant smelled absolutely amazing, so I was excited to order. Their lunch menu mostly consists of sandwiches and burgers, with limited sides like chips, broccoli salad, soup of the day, and so on. Bottled drinks and a couple of desserts round it all out. My parents split a Philly cheese steak sandwich with pasta salad; I got a chicken cheese steak with a cup of the soup of the day (potato), and we shared a slice of strawberry pretzel salad for dessert! The employees were nice enough to bring our food out to us while we were at a metal table on the patio, so that was sweet. Food came out relatively quickly and was definitely fresh. Overall, it was fine! My favorite thing was probably the strawberry pretzel salad; I wish I'd had a little more but I should've ordered my own portion! lol. The potato soup had really nice garlicky croutons on top that I enjoyed, though I wish there'd been bigger chunks of potato in it. I liked my chicken Philly just fine though I feel like it was missing some sort of flavor somewhere. My parents felt the same about their regular Philly. Unlike me, though, my mom unfortunately got several gristley bits she had to spit out. The chicken didn't have that same problem. Overall, a pleasant enough experience though I wouldn't say our socks were knocked off, haha. I'd return and try other menu options if I come back in the future.

The market part is decent enough and a good place to grab some Mexican products. I did a walk-through of the market to see if anything caught my eye and then I went to theblittle restaurant located behind the market. As far as the ambiance, there is pretty much zero. None. Nada. Zero ambiance. They don't even have menus or even a sandwich board to list their menu, but rather a handwritten sign on a giant piece of paper hanging by the order window. Also, they had no prices, but I will say it was overall affordable. I had three tacos and they were $2.50 each. I went with the asada taco, chicharon taco and chorizo taco. I contemplated between that and thre birria tacos, but you could only get them as a plate of four and I wanted to try a bit of variety. The food came out pretty fast and they also gave me a little cup of the barbacoa (the meat inside a birria taco to try). The barbacoa was excellent and I kind of regret not getting the birria tacos, I will next time. My tacos were definitely great thought. I was not overly fond of the chicharon taco, but that's just me. The other tacos were great and the two sauces they gave with it were good, particularly the red sauce. I would definitely like here and I will give it five stars overall.

I do not think I'll be back and you should avoid this place as well as apparently there is no consistence in the kitchen. Sad.

This is a small little bakery; technically they have daily lunch specials but there's very limited seating so it's more of a grab-and-go type of spot. They also have premade dishes in tall coolers if you want to take and reheat something as an appetizer or an entree. Great for on the go engagements or as a quick fix for a family that needs feeding. There's also a selection of packaged breads made in-house and a dessert case. The service was extremely nice! I had a lovely chat with one of the employees. The only major complaint I have was that the store smelled really weird and unpleasant when I visited. I have NO idea what it was from -- I couldn't place the smell. Maybe a dish I don't like? Maybe the yeast for the bread? Not sure. It looked clean and had a good health code score, but the smell was rough. At any rate, I grabbed a slice of strawberry pretzel salad for right then, as well as a slice of Elvis cake (iirc) and a snickerdoodle. The strawberry pretzel salad had a pretty strawberry jelly top and was packed with lots of cream cheese filling! It was good, though I do wish there had been a thicker pretzel crust; sometimes I felt like I was mostly eating pretzel crumbs instead of an actual bottom of a layered dessert. Still, definitely yummy! Hubs and I enjoyed the Elvis cake later. It was super moist and sort of reminded me of a hummingbird cake. My snickerdoodle was special (peanut butter snickerdoodle? Coffee snickerdoodle?). It was a unique combo of flavors that you don't typically see but sadly I'm far enough removed now that I've forgotten exactly what. Regardless, it was good! Along for the ride in my favorite sister's quest for the best locally made sourdough bread, we visited Suzanne's last month. It's small, and I think it may have had 2 little bistro style tables inside, but it may have had 3. There are several refrigerators on the floor with grab and go items such as a ground beef-based "John Wayne casserole," pimento cheese, various casseroles, maybe a 3-bean salad, chick salad, broccoli salad, and more. A stocked confection counter is where you order and pay. They had really cute Halloween cake "pops" for sale and their "sour dough" bread was on a small display on the right as you enter. They offer hot lunch specials daily Tuesday-Friday, 11-2 and a soup of the day at 6.49, ranging from said John Wayne casserole to chicken poulet and stuffing. We missed the lunch window and didn't purchase any of the grab and goes. The staff here are patient and friendly! Really nice! Sister and I each got a loaf or 2 of the sourdough, sister tried one of their confectionery items and said it was good. I also got two of their giant chocolate chip cookies for the hubs. The unanimous verdict on their sourdough bread is it is a good bread, especially for toasting; however, sourdough it is not. The bite I had was sweet and fluffy. Hubs and sister agreed it was delicious bread, just not sourdough. So, it's back to Publix for sourdough. Don't plan to eat in if you go to Suzannes, I told sister, "I guess most people get their lunch to go and eat it in the car, parked here, or back at work." Thanks, Suzzane's! I'm happy to have visited your shop and to see all you offer!
