My turkey sandwich
Tortino G.

The food was excellent, the service was great, and the building had perfect decoration. The only complaint I have is that I was too full to finish my meal.

This was my first time trying this place. My sister recommend it. I order the salmon meditterean salad. I enjoyed it and was very tasty.

I'm always looking for decent places to stop by every once in a while. Seems I'll still be looking…read more The sandwiches here are way above average in comparison to most local places, but they do have a sort of "I could have made this myself" taste to a lot of them. I mean, some have shredded cheese on them. I could have just brought my own and asked for a discount. The quality is overall great, however. Amazing clubs, average subs, good chili, amazing coleslaw, deeply disappointing salads. It's hit and miss, but nothing is actively bad. Service is okay. Given that this place is only open for a sliver of time every day I'd expect it to be a little more functional and friendly. Seems scrappy and panicked, even when there's only a few customers. No online ordering, but things are made pretty quickly. Definitely call ahead if you can't wait. You'll be there 5+ minutes per customer ahead of you. Everyone feels like they just started working there, but do well enough. The location is ideal for being in a downtown area. Parking lot just outside, and more spots on the nearby parallel street. Plenty of seating. Cool business card holder in front. Decor is to be hoped for, though. Low brow toxic positivity and sexism isn't my jam, but to each their own. It's unusual to find authentic Asian food like this in the Midwest. I am Asian American from the…read moreWest Coast so I know really good Asian food and this place fits the bill! They hand make their dumplings as well as many of their items and it shows. The noodles are really good and not your prepackaged variety. In fact the noodles are excellent! We had their dumplings, wontons, pot stickers, two types of noodles, eggplant, beef rolls, and meat buns. The eggplant dish was so delicious! And their noodles with tomato egg tasted very much like tomato beef chow mein which we have on the West Coast. It was so good!! The type of cuisine is Taiwan or Northern style with lots of chili oil, but not overly spicy. The place is very clean! You order à la carte from a big menu at the counter. You get your utensils, bowls and plates from a table in the back but they bring your food to you. The service was quick, friendly, and excellent. This place is casual, and a great place to get a quick delicious meal or just a bite to eat.

That might sound pricey but the soup portion was quite large and filling. I only had room for 1 of the dumplings so I took the other 5 home and had them for dinner. So that was actually 2 meals for $28.60. The soup flavors were INTENSE and SPICY, but not too spicy. The beef chunks were MEATY and TENDER. The Bok choy was cooked AL DENTE. The noodles were fun to SLURP. The broth was HOT and TASTY. For all the heat freaks out there, they have the RED HOT CHILI OIL. I added a little and it was FANTASTIC! They also have a soy based sauce with chives added which was very FLAVORFUL. I mostly used this in my soup. Service was very fast and I could hear the chef in the kitchen making my order. Dining area was simple and CLEAN. Bathroom was IMMACULATE! I SHALL RETURN TO TRY OTHER MENU ITEMS. Thanks to my fellow YELPs!

I had been visiting Matsu-Chan a few times a year since 2009 when I was a university student in the…read moreJapanese [language] minor program and a lot of my classmates would also frequent. After graduating my girlfriend [now wife] and I would make it a point to try and eat at Matsu-Chan when in the area, even after our first kiddo, and eventually our second. Last year before one of our trips to the area my wife let me know that they were under new management and when I looked at the new menu, I was saddened that all of my favorite items were no longer present, and it seemed that my beloved little slice of Japan was now "just" a ramen shop. While my wife loves and can handle ramen and the broth, I would typically get the different rice bowls, or other entrees because while I love me some good ramen it doesn't work out well for me with the hour or so trip to the area. We'd get some rolls, takoyaki, and other appetizers to share around the table before digging into our main entrees. With the increased prices, and fewer options, I will end up going to any of the multitude of places [Aji-ten is usually our #2] to get my kick. I'll miss the little shop and the times I've had, like perusing the manga while waiting for a table. I wish the old owners the best, and the new management as well, especially if it was a familial transfer, but Matsu-Chan is not for me anymore. My wife will eventually get up there and let me know how it is, but for now, I'm just happy that a little bento shop opened near my workplace run by two first gen transplants, so I can at least get my fix without the drive.

Others following us added their names to the waitlist. The restaurant is small with just a handful of tables. One chef, it appears, prepared all the meals. I barely glanced at the menu; I already knew I was having the ramen. The only question was which one. My friend selected the eel bowl while I had the miso pork soup. The latter was served with sliced pork, bamboo shoots, fish cake, and seaweed. The broth was full of flavor; I enjoyed every slurp. I appreciated that the meal was sizeable and inexpensive - I was able to stretch it to two meals. We did not linger given the number of people waiting.

My coworkers decided to come here for dinner after a long shift. A few of them had been here before…read morebut I had never. We came on a Wednesday evening and I was so shocked to find the parking lot so full! And walking in, I was just as shocked to see how big this place was on the inside. Plenty of seating for sure! Of course we had reservations so that was nice and probably highly recommended. We enjoyed the bread and butter provided to the table as we mingled. They even had gluten free bread ($5 extra). We all ordered a variety of foods. I ordered the waygu meatloaf with mashed potatoes & string beans and it was really enjoyable. It was like eating an elevated home-cooked meal. Everybody was genuinely satisfied. And they provide separate checks so that was also a nice addition to our evening.

They were fairly busy, but we had a reservation and were seated quickly in the Lodge portion of the restaurant. Despite the busyness, the server was attentive throughout our time there. The starting complementary bread was warm and crusty, and it was a good sign of things to come. To start, I ordered a Peach Bourbon and my husband got the Cranberry Incipient to drink. The cocktail was excellent and the flavors were well balanced. My husband said the beer was nice but surprisingly sweet. Later, I ordered the Party Starter NA cocktail which was tart but nicely spiced. For food, we split the coconut shrimp appetizer which came with a sweet Orange Malibu glaze. The sweetness of the glaze paired well with the subtle coconut flavor of the shrimp and they were fried well. I ordered the Baseball steak medium rare with fried Brussels sprouts and Parmesan whipped potatoes as sides. The sides were great, and while the steak was very flavorful, it was a little tough and on the rarer side for my taste. My husband ordered the beef Wellington with cauliflower, carrots, and green beans. The beef was perfectly cooked and the mushroom duxelle was very tasty, but unfortunately the pastry was underbaked (although I know that is notoriously difficult to get just right). The sides were lackluster, lacking any seasoning and likely just steamed with butter. The portion sizes were good; we ate nearly all of it minus a few bites of the sides and were comfortably full. But of course, we couldn't stop there. We ordered the molten lava cake and were convinced by the waiter (without too much effort) to add vanilla ice cream. It was wonderful, but incredibly rich and decadent. Overall, it was a great experience and this is a place we would eat at again.
