My wife and I look forward to our outings at Panera Lakeland. We've been going there for years, just us two, when we can sneak off for a hour. Sometimes we sit by the big windows under the trees, sometimes we find a cozy booth. It's been a special treat for us, but our Panera at Lakeland has fallen off sadly this year. Lately, the tables are not wiped, the floors are not swept, and the bathrooms are a mess. It's been months since I've seen a single member of the crew more than once. They can't keep team members two weeks, and the service is suffering badly. The quality of the food is the worst of it. The sandwiches we used to look so forward to are wretched any more. The meat is gristle, the bread is poorly baked, flat, and greasy, and good luck finding the veggies that used to give every entree flavor and loft. This IS Georgia, right? If you can't find fresh meat and vegetables here, you aren't looking. And before you start blaming the children we now expect to serve us everywhere, tell me where are the adults who are supposed to be giving a hoot what happens to this store? If there's any management present, it's not visible, and it is certainly not evident. I can stand outside this business and see a double line of cars and a full lot at the shiny new Chicken of the Lord across the way, any hour they're open. Know why? Somebody over there understands that putting the business first means doing what it takes to get and keep good people, train them right, and give them good fresh ingredients to prepare and serve. Ordered a whole steak and cheese panini via the drive thru today but only received a half despite being charged for the whole ($9.41). I asked them to hold the horseradish which they did so I'm pretty sure they grabbed the correct bag. Also, no receipt was given. Corporate told me this is an independent location which is probably why these negative reviews have persisted. It seems like a lot of the negative reviews are about missing food or extremely small portions. I've been to many Panera Bread locations around the country and they always have been "okay", not great. Service and cleanliness were often lacking. We decided to give a Panera near us (Cumming, GA) a try and boy were we delighted. When you walk in you the first thing you notice is how bright and clean the place is. Lots of space between tables and layout better than most. The highlight we having Carmen take out order. What a breath of fresh air. These days we find outselves resigned to disgruntled, overworked employees...not Carmen. She is the true definition of "service with a smile" even though she was wearing a mask! I'm a big Panera Bread fan as they have a great menu for eating healthy but I would avoid the Cumming, Georgia location. This location obviously suffers from poor leadership as they are constantly out of menu items and the front line employees are consistently rude. For years I've given this location additional chances hoping they've improved but to no avail. There is a Johns Creek location on Peachtree Parkway about six miles south, it's well worth the drive. read more

I finally dined in at this Panera location this week. I have picked up drive-through a couple of times. I'm pretty loyal to a few items at Panera - The salads: Asian Sesame Chicken, Fuji Apple Chicken & Thai Chicken; The soups - Chicken Noodle & Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice; The sandwiches: Frontega Chicken, Sierra Turkey & Bacon Turkey Bravo. Last night, I had the Asian Sesame Chicken salad while my aunt tried the seasonal pick 2 - with Autumn Squash soup and the Roasted Turkey Harvest Wheatberry salad. She loved both. I did try the soup and was impressed with the spices and flavor. Very tasty without feeling too heavy. Everyone we saw - from the person who took our order to the one who delivered it to our table was friendly. Service was fast, though it wasn't crowded at all at 7pm on a Saturday night. The restaurant was meticulously clean. I will return - it's a given that my food will taste good and be made with very fresh ingredients. I only withhold that last star because of the price - I really wish I got more salad for my buck! read more

Panera likes to play head games with you. When you order your sandwich they ask you if you want chips or an apple. Who the hell does that? What am I supposed to say now? If I say chips than obviously I don't give a rip about my health. The expression isn't "a bag of chips a day keeps the doctor away". Obviously I want to keep the doctor away, but now it's all up in my face. I don't want a damn apple, but here I am feeling guilty and there's a line starting to form behind me. So I end up getting a stupid apple with my panini and Mac and cheese. I stare at it as I eat my sandwich, thinking that chips would really hit the spot right now. Across from me is a man on his lunch break with his tie tucked into his shirt as he tilts up his bowl of tomato soup to get the last drop. He puts the bowl down and begins a staring contest with his apple, which he loses as he casts his forlorn eyes downward. One woman delicately fingers the top of her apple and then does an almost instinctual, practiced left swipe, casting the bad apple out of her field of vision. There's not a smile in sight except for the one boy who was at first using his apple as a ball, but then eventually settled on just banging it on the table. His mom didn't even try to stop him, and none of us blamed her. We were all living vicariously through her child at that moment. Chips or apple indeed. Employees here are a mixed batch, some friendly, some not so much, which is the reason for the low star count for this location. It is Panera and a national chain so it is as you would expect it to be. All laid out similar with the exact same menu. I come here cause I like the pick 2, where I can get soup and salad or soup and sandwich or even sandwich and soup. They use to let the pastas be part of the pick 2, but they have removed that option. I know most come here thinking of a light and heathy meal, which you can find here, but be careful there are some sneaky options too that will make it not so healthy. read more

She had to check with the manager that it was okay (we have done this many times before). Well, I have finally had enough of this particular Panera. Last night was the final straw. Over the last year or so, I have only had one correct order from the drive through. Usually it's missing something - the bread, the salad dressing, and the worst was when the Fuji apple chicken salad had no chicken. Last night the order was correct, but the salad was mostly onions. And they only put a little dressing in the dressing container. I think they do this so you will buy their dressing at the grocery store and keep it on hand for your salads. I have had the slowest service ever at the drive through - like it might take you 20 or 25 minutes to get through the line - and that is AFTER you place the order. The folks that work the window are rude. Once she gave me the wrong change, then argued with me about it - and when she said she would have to get a manager to come get me the right change, I said ok. That REALLY ticked her off. I should have read the reviews before I went to this location. This was definitely my last visit here. We stopped in on Sunday, the cashier was extremely rude and would not accommodate my panera rewards request. I had enough rewards to cover two meals, as I have done in the past. She either didn't know how to do it or didn't care to do it, but she told me I couldn't use multiple rewards on one order so I asked her to separate the orders and then use the reward on each order so they would both be free. Either way, I got charged for one meal and got even more attitude. Think twice before you go to this location. They clearly don't want to be bothered to do their JOB. read more

I usually am very happy with Panera, I love the overloaded sandwiches that are piled high with toppings but today, mine and my mom's Caprese Sandwiches were seriously lacking in toppings. I think we had a whole 3 pieces of Arugala, 2 pieces of mozzarella and 3 tiny tomatoes. I've had this sandwich before and it was not quite so flat. This Panera remains spectacularly mediocre. Please refer to my original review for full effect. My compliment this time: I am yet to get food poisoning from this establishment. 2 new quirks -- If you order a bakery item from the kiosk, the line staff who make prepared foods won't walk over and get the pastry/bagel/whatever and put it on your plate. Because I hate myself and keep coming to this Panera, I have been able to confirm this institutional laziness through repeated experimentation. If you ask them later for your pastry, they will say that you have to order pastries at the counter, not on the kiosk. That's funny -- all the other Panera locations I frequent across 4 states have no problem getting my kiosk-ordered pastry served along with my meal. Hell, sometimes I even order only a pastry from the kiosk at other locations. They now have the pagers that track where you sit down, theoretically allowing them to bring your food out to you. But sometimes I watch a bewildered food runner do laps around the restaurant before returning to the window. There's a table map posted there. Perhaps I'm the only one who has noticed it. read more
