I really want to like this location but every time I do rapid pick up my order is somehow wrong. I'm not talking about minor mistakes, but missing an entire order of food. I really do like Panera but this place just seems to be very forgetful. Order on your mobile device right from your table and Panera will bring you the food! That's awesome. I sat at the patio table, placed my order and within minutes, my super salty Chinese Citrus salad! arrived. I must warn you, if you don't ask for dressing on the side, they'll add a whole bunch of it, making the meal inedible. Love the service and most of the foods but sometimes, I miss them asking me whether I want bread, an apple or chips with my meal and they default to giving me bread! If I could post a negative -5 rating I would. This location is by far the worst location I have EVER had experience with. There service is by in large inconsistent and NEVER order through this location online. I have had my order messed up several times and when trying to rectify the issue no one EVER answers the phone, forcing you to go visit their location which defeats the purpose of paying delivery fees. The Panera customer service number is also useless, in fact I am deleting my account due to the lack of customer service you receive when calling. I can see that Panera may not last that long as I've noticed a decrease in their product as well. read more

Okay, why one star? Let's dive in, cause we're going to the deep end. I worked for John Offerdahl of Miami Dolphins fame when he opened up a bagel shop in my hometown in South Florida. Then I worked at Einstein Bros Bagelshop for a couple years. So I feel like I know what I'm talking about when I comment on things like quality and expectations. Fast forward 20 Years, my wife, daughter and mastiff (Camilla) move to Northern Va from 8 years overseas at the US Embassy in Mexico City, Mexico. All very Top Secret and is rather not get into it here since we're talking about a particular Dumfries Panera on Yelp. I don't have a job yet, my wife is slugging into DC everyday my daughter starts a new school and I'm renovating the main floor of our 25 year old townhouse. We spent a lot of money on the move and the renovations and I'm freelancing as real estate photographer. We don't have a to. Of discretionary spending so we say once a week we'll go and eat and it'll be special so okay, where we goin? Well, there's this Panera Bread place that's got bread. Yay Carbs! And they got bagels. And they got sandwiches and soups and drinks and Mac and cheese but it's all natural and real and good and crunch and mmm and slurp and ahhh and you know the commercials. So we go in and we get a hot chocolate and we get some bread and a soup and my kid gets the Mac and cheese and my wife splits a sandwich with me and some water and a cookie. Never been there before so the service and ordering go okay it's the typical oh we've never been here but it all looks so good! You know how you forget to be coherent when you're in a new place? So they give us the number we go sit down and few minutes later the kid brings us the food and we're excited! So I take spoonfull of tomato bisque and it smells so good and I get it in my mouth and....well it just okay. Whatever, it's just soup, how's the sandwich? Just okay. What about the mac n cheese? Just okay. What about the cookie? Just okay. So we leave a little disappointed and Camilla doesn't get quite so much love as she would have gotten from a happy family returning from a great meal. Poor Camilla. Anyhow, I know there are sometimes recipes and bad nights so we go back again when we get that craving for a good sandwich or panini or a great soup or really savory salad with tons of ingredients. Same thing. It's just okay. By now we're like well, it's not bad food and the service is nice just to go sit down and they bring it to you and sometimes they'll clean up for you but the food, it's close! But just not good. I went back a third time and we again tried the Mac n Cheese and I got a hot chocolate n some soup and a sandwich. Just okay. Now I know tastes are subjective, and I know there are people that go to the Panera Bread in Dumfries, VA and get something and walk out happy. But I've been there three times. I'm not picky, my wife isn't picky. I've worked in places like this serving the type of people who go here. I make sandwiches at home that are great! You'd love a sandwich from my house. I use good bread and do some fancy stuff with grilled chicken and pesto and mozzarella and tomato and spinach and I'm not a one trick pony, either! I subscribed to America's test kitchen and get cooks illustrated and I insisted on a gas stove and buy weird cheese and eat bread and weird cheese together with grapes!!! I'm aging but still feel young and live practically next door to this place. And I'm happy to report I'm now employed again with another very top secret job that I can't talk about in this forum, in fact Ive said too much! Where's the self destruct button for this review? The point is...I know This Panera Bread in Northern VA culture. I'm the guy their trying to get. But after trying three times with different menu options and getting just okay, I just don't go. It's not worth it. If someone wants to show me where the good stuff is in that restaurant, I will give it another chance and change this narcissistic review to focus on the food. But at the end of the day I trust me and I have a pretty good track record. So the one star may be a little harsh for one star. First off, I love Panera. It's a great option for a quick meal instead of grabbing fast food. I stopped in to this location for lunch while I was in the area and was disappointed. The ice and drink machine were disgusting! I don't know if they had ever been cleaned. I didn't get any ice because the clear plastic thing the ice comes out of was so gross. Also, Pepsi? Coke is where it's at! I got my food and as I was taking the toothpick out of my sandwich I noticed a small black hair on the turkey. Yuck! I took it back to the counter and they remade it but I had pretty much lost my appetite by then. Other than that, customer service was good and service was prompt. 9 May 2019. This location is the most convenient since it is just 10 minutes from home. I know I'm not being over critical, this location is rapidly going down the drain. It is just past 6:30 p.m. there may be 10-15 people in the store. The tables have been not cleaned for at least the last 25 minutes I've been here. There is trash on the floor, plates stacked by my count 10-12 in the collection area. I'm beginning to think that I need to drive to another location for my breakfast and dinner meals. Once I thought this was the place to stop on the way home, now I may stop at a sandwich shop in the Stonebridge Shopping Center on weekdays and drive South on weekends for my Panera fix. Didn't toast my bagel or sandwich both times I went and messed up my side, ordered chips and got fruit

Went here, a few days ago, and did not check items prior to leaving (my mistake). Got home and several items were missing. When I called about the missing food, manager even offered to have missing food delivered to us (we were already on our way back to pick up missing items). They also threw in a free dessert for the inconvenience. Always pick up curbside and customer service has been great. read more

I just had dental surgery and my husband told the food prep person that he might have to put the soup in the blender. She made sure there were no big chunks of veggie in the soup and also found bread to go with it that was soft and not chewy. This is the kind of service we all dream of.. Outstanding service! Got some chicken salad last night , the croutons was not good , its hard and stale. There are more croutons than the chicken . The whole portion is too small for the price. I went today after a shopping at target. My kids and I were so hungry, my kids ordered a soup and I ordered a seasonal greens half salad with extras (chicken, kale, avocado and roasted cashews) and I received the salad with a bed of kale with no lettuce and no cashews, I talk with a guy in the prepping area and he said nothing. Also we order a cranberry and orange muffin and cinnamon scone, they serve both wrong, its always something wrong at this location in Dumfries, I had better experience in the Stafford location but Dumfries is my closest one. No matter what you order, they f-$& it up every single time by forgetting something, and they give you dirty looks if you try and check it before leaving. 3. If you got a bread bowl from this place on a to go order, (if for some off chance they actually have bread) better make sure it's in there because 50% of the time it's not. And I've given up on croutons for the tomato soup, don't even expect them anymore. 4. An overall 1.5 star experience. This Panera used to be good, but it has gone the way of every other Panera in this area. At this point, the costs are outweighing the expectations. The food is the only thing keeping me from giving this place a one star. The cashier was nice up until I refrained from giving a tip. That turned to a frown and the receipt being tossed to me. My issue with this process is that they ask for tips, but there is one table visit and no check-ups. Not to mention that I am the one to refill my drink. What am I to tip? That they actually made a correct order? Need I mention that there are countries where servers get paid ~$14 for a weeks worth of work and those servers deny taking tips and will personally return the extra money (China)? Not to mention that in the nearly half two hours I was there, I got to witness two employees (one being a manager) chatting it up with a friend. These two employees were clearly on the clock during the lunch rush, but rather than clean tables or serve food or work for the "tip", they decided to chat loudly about other Panera's and moving up the ranks. Ordered a pick two to eat in. They gave me a electronic buzzer and told me they would bring the food out. After waiting half an hour I went to ask where my food was. They bagged it to go and it was sitting there the whole time. They took it out of the bag and put it on a plate to give me. Thanks for the cold food. I won't be coming back. read more

I'd give the food at this Panera 4 stars, but the service drags it down to 2. I routinely get food to go and more often than not, there is something wrong with the order. Sometimes it's as simple as putting chips in with the sandwich rather than the requested apple. Other times it's including the tomato when it was requested to be left off. The most recent example was this Sunday when I got 6 bagels and 2 scones. I asked for them not to be sliced (have you seen what their slicer does to bagels?). They sliced them. Ok, quick fix. I should have checked the rest of the order to make sure that it was correct. I got home and saw that they had given me 2 cinnamon chip bagels instead of the requested cinnamon chip scones. Before getting annoyed again, I checked the receipt to make sure that I'd ordered what I thought I did. Yep, it clearly showed two scones. All this complaining about incorrect orders may sound petty to some, but to me this is just an example of the lack of attention that many of the employees pay to what they are doing. I don't know if it's a training issue or something else, but it really isn't that hard to read an order slip and fill it correctly, even if it's busy. I've mentioned this to management on several occasions, and despite all of the apologies and assurances, nothing seems to have changed. read more

I go to Panera pretty often bc it's always a safe choice. Always pretty solid, nothing shouts out amazing but I feel like it's money well spent each visit. My trips are usually a solid 4..4.5 but every time I go to this location the service is always off. I'm used to the big smiles and ppl happy to help. Even at the pickup area. Not here. The prices at Panera are over priced.. The food is decent but a lot of it isn't "freshly prepared" like they claim. I watched as they got the macaroni out of a bag just to nuke it and serve it. Their soup is great but the bread bowl is over priced for less soup. The staff are friendly, depending on the day and their mood. The cleanliness was not up to par.. I have never been more grossed out by a bathroom, I felt like I needed a shower after using the bathroom. The tables are not cleaned up after people leave so who knows how long germs spread after each person leaves a table. Most tables that are for larger groups (4 people) are used by "students" who aren't even eating, but talking loudly on their phones and facebook posting, and stay there for hours which makes it hard to find a seat to eat your meal. This is a very busy location, but food is always prepared fast. I never have a chance to sit down after filling my drink before my buzzer goes off. I always enjoy my meals, but do notice portion sizes are quite different if you eat there vs. getting it to go. My only complaint is one night I went in a half hour before closing and they were out of baguettes, which are my favorite part :( I love meeting here for meetings, picking up dinner after work, or stopping in for a fresh smoothie. I know what you're thinking. This is a post about an angry customer retaliating. It is not. I assure you that I'm trying to save you from this Panera Bread. I used to work a block away from the Panera Bread in DuPont Circle and I never had one complaint. This location, however, is somewhere I would never even buy a bagel from. Last Friday I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Panini. I subbed the mayo for pesto and went about my way. I got to work (which is about a 10 minute drive away) and I bite into the sandwich. It tastes like rubber! I figure it's just that one piece of chicken but I do my due diligence and check the rest. The chicken is clearly undercooked and I am disgusted. I take a few zoomed in pictures on my cell and call corporate about it. They apologize profusely and tell me I have to get a refund in the store since I paid in cash. I'm already 30 miles away so I go back today during my lunch break. I speak with Ken Nugent (manager) and he rolls his eyes. He tells me I need a receipt. I produce the receipt and show him a photo and he accuses me of lying in front of cashiers and customers. I am upset and quite frankly embarrassed. I show him the time stamp on the photo & receipt but he continues to accuse me of lying stating "I got this food from somewhere else." I could've forgiven a hopefully one-time mistake in undercooked chicken but the way the manager handled it was so uncalled for. Also, since he didn't believe me, I doubt he will alert the cooks about future cases of uncooked chicken so I will never step foot in that location again. read more

The onsite manager's realonse was this is hiw we do it...not how can i make it better. He didnt even offer to return my money. I will make sure I go to Yelp and give this place a 1 star!
