One thing about Panera Bread is that their food is consistent like most major chain restaurants. When I roll into Panera, I'm usually there for either breakfast or lunch. When I eat breakfast, 98% of the time I get a spinach and bacon soufflé. The other 2% of the time I get a sandwich because they ran out of the spinach and bacon soufflé. That is my one knock on Panera. I've arrived at several different Panera restaurants well before the end of breakfast to find that they have run out of my favorite soufflé. It amazes me how a restaurant that advertises food items can run out. I actually had a manager tell me to call in advance to see if there are any soufflés available. That being said, I love Panera's spinach and bacon soufflé because it is one of the most unique and tasty breakfast options available in fast food. I usually get the "you pick two" combo deal when I go for lunch. I get the Italian combo with one of the soups available for that day. My favorite soups are chicken and wild rice and tomato. I have noticed the price of the combo has inched up over the past few years. I guess that can be expected considering the fact that nothing remains the same for long in fast food. Besides my usual suspects, the pastries and bagels are always a good tagalong for my meals. Again. The food is consistently good and fresh. You can't go wrong at Panera. I'm only giving 4 stars because I miss out on my soufflés in the morning from time to time. I don't think that should ever happen. read more

I had ordered a family feast here a couple weeks ago through delivery and never got my food. The delivery driver (whose name is Carolyn I believe) then decided to argue with me on the phone over the issue. I never got my refund and every time I call this place I get a different answer. It just really upsets me that I spent $40 on nothing and I'm probably not going to get it back at this point. Please don't order delivery here. They might take your food home. read more

Just had the Panera Bread Strawberry Poppy Seed Salad with chicken. It was a romaine salad with super-sweet dressing (that had no resemblance to poppy seeds) with strawberries, blueberries, over-ripened pineapple, and very sweet mandarin orange. It might as well have been a dessert...it definitely wasn't balanced and didn't seem healthy to me at all. Additionally, I expected much better greens for ten bucks. I love Panera and I normally have no problem with their food, but this time I was extremely disappointed. I asked to speak with the manager to provide some feedback, and I was told that he was too busy to come to my table. I know that Panera is a huge conglomerate, but I also know that you're never too big to fail, and normally this is how it starts. Good customer service people. However the restaurant needs to be cleaned. The ceiling tiles are dirty, there is dust and grease accumulated around the kitchen area and the ovens look bad. There is a big grease spot on the wall in the cooking area. The place should be closed for a deep cleaning and replacement of the ceiling tiles. read more

Food is normally good but they cut back on potions and raised prices over 30% on menu items over last 2 years. A sandwich and salad are not worth $24 unless it is farm to table. Panera is not even organic or fresh. Their meats and salad greens come in bag just like you get at grocery. I can get the same Caesar salad in kit at grocery store for $3. It's not worth $10 especially with the small portion you receive. Last salad I ordered the box was only half filled. read more

Although we normally go with the Panera Bread in Newport News, we decided to try the Hampton store through the online ordering service. We received everything we ordered, but were seriously disappointed at the quality of the soufflés; very burnt on the tops of them (the four cheese soufflé picture is added for example). May have to go back to the Newport News location if this is how the Hampton store normally operates. read more

These new fast lane kiosks? Best thing since sliced bread. (No pun intended.) There's a Panera person that greets you at the door and then will offer a personal mini-tutorial on how to use the kiosks. Very cool. Cause I didn't have time to fiddle with it. I LOVE THIS Panera for many reasons. I think ill try and add more as i go along. But, i just love the atmosphere at this Panera in particular. - Everyone is SO nice here. I never encountered a single mean employee. - They're open pretty late on sundays - when most coffee shops close. - Food is consistently good. - Location is great- close to the peninsula mall. - Plenty of outlets! - The 2 chairs in the back are always clean. - They have a pretty big outdoor seating area - always kept tidy and they have speakers that allow you to listen to inside music outside! Okay, so i know these are a bunch of random facts. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that Panera food is PRICEY. I mean sandwich, cookie and drink comes to about 12$- it's almost the price of food at applebees/chilis. Definitely recommend this place, its a good study , lunch date environment :) read more

Everything in this place is stale. I have given this place many tries... More then I would give most places. Over the past 6 months I have received two different orders of bagels that were hard as a rock, undercooked soufflés, stale cobblestone, stale blueberry muffins with no blueberries (see pictures) and zero response from management from my complaints. We visited here a few times last week for dinner. We tried out their online ordering system and found it to be surprisingly convenient. The first time we tried it, our order was ready and sitting on the shelf by the time we drove there. As a test, we tried it a second time while sitting on the patio and timed the process to be about 7 minutes. I went to Panera this morning to try their breakfast sandwiches. I got one bacon egg and cheese and one sausage egg and cheese. The first one I tried was the bacon and it had one piece of paper thin bacon on it that tasted like it was of the microwave pre-cooked variety. I had higher hopes for the sausage egg and cheese sandwich. But I bit into it and it was bacon again. Really disappointed they messed up a simple 2 item order. I enjoyed my chicken noodle soup and my sandwich. The bagels here are amazing (especially the everything bagel) and the blueberry cream cheese is delicious. The service was pretty decent. The only issue I had was the cashier took my order wrong and left off a few items because they were busy and the teenagers behind us were rudely complaining about how they couldn't believe it was taking so long for her to take our order, which was very complicated and was long. read more

Came here on a Friday at noon, barely had to wait in line. The cool part about this place is that you can order online or even come in and sit at a table then order, or go to the counter and order. They give you this pager thing and when your food is ready someone brings it out to you, wherever you decide to sit. Thats badass. Its a little on the pricey side, IMO, half of a turkey avocado BLT and soup with an apple was $11, but I can tell their ingredients are quality, so I feel ok about it. Went there with my family and their soup bowls are nasty with stain. But I do love their food and salad.

This was a lousy place to eat---especially if you're not familiar with how they construct their meals. Since this was my first (and last) visit to Panera I ordered the "2 for combo" as I saw on the picture. Soup and Chicken sandwich for me and salad and Sandwich for my wife. When they brought the meal out NO sandwiches. Soup, salad and a crappy looking apple. That was it! Had to wait in line again to be told I ordered wrong but I could buy 1/2 a sandwich for $8+. I know I was clear on what we wanted the cashier wasn't paying attention. Anyway; overpriced, service is marginal (at best) and the food just so so. You can go elsewhere and get better food with better service and that is exactly what I will do next time. read more

My husband and I just picked up two salads that come with a baguette each. We get home and the bread isn't wrapped in anything. I call the restaurant and speak with a manager because that is unsanitary. She tells me they don't wrap the bread just like they don't wrap chips or cookies. She said I should have told the cashier that I wanted the bread wrapped. I ended the conversation because I had no more conversation for her. Several points here. Chips are in a bag so they don't need to be wrapped; my workplace orders regularly from this Panera for business meetings and we have NEVER received unwrapped baguettes. Cookies have also always been wrapped. This is unsanitary and I was not aware (this has never happened before) that I had to tell the cashier to wrap the bread. Tomorrow is a holiday - I will definitely contact the Health Dept to see if this practice is acceptable. read more
