I absolutely loved McAlister's Deli when I lived in North Carolina. It was always great food and service. I visited the new Hampton location on a Friday for lunch. I ordered online and picked up in person. The establishment was very clean. I headed to the counter to tell them my name for my order and they gave it to me. I ordered a turkey club croissant with a side garden salad. This came with a pickle and I ordered the sweet tea. Everything was delicious. On Monday, I wanted the same sandwich again, so I re-ordered the same meal. This time... The bacon was horrible!! All the bacon was burnt and in pieces. This is why they have three stars versus five stars. This will not deter me from going back. However, I will double check my sandwiches before leaving moving forward. read more

Such a great addition to the Peninsula Town Center food scene. I went here the other night for dinner, and was not disappointed. The service was spot on. The staff took the time to answer questions about the menu, and provide feedback. The Spicy Turkey Melt was really great. It was a good mix of savory and heat. The avocado and spring mix were a great complement to the sandwich. They even offer gluten-free bread, which is great as so many people have gluten allergies intolerance these days. I also liked the broccoli cheese soup. I think next time I'll try the chicken tortilla soup. I do wish the pickles were half pickles or larger and not spears - it was dillious :-D They have a good amount of tables for seating, and cool sayings on the wall. First time ever to eat at a McAlister's deli and it was alright. None of the food was overly impressive and I'm not running back for seconds. We sampled the following: Chicken tortillas soup-it was different from your average chicken tortilla soup, a little thicker. It kind of grew on me as I ate it. Can't decide if I would order it again or not. Club sandwich-I'm used to clubs being overstuffed with the filling and this was not. It tasted delicious, but could have more filling. The sandwich was smaller than expected considering the price ($9.49) . The sandwich was tasty but poorly put together. The ingredients were pretty much haphazardly thrown together on the sandwich One of the ingredients of the sandwich was avocado. The employee that made the sandwich, did not care to make the sandwich properly, considering the very small piece of avocado on the sandwich. I did mention the discrepancy to the person that took the order. I was then given another small piece of avocado in a cup, that was slightly bigger than the piece that was on the sandwich. The menu also stated that the sandwich came with a side dish. I assumed that it was included with the sandwich but it wasn't;I was charged 3.99 for it. I hate to write this review as i had a good experience prior. However, my experience was so bad this time. Took over 10 minutes to place an order. There was only one employee ringing people up and doing door dash, who was very rude i might add. When i placed my order, I told the cashier no cheese on my sandwich. I know for a fact i did because i don't like cheese on any sandwich. My food comes out, with cheese, and he takes the food back and tells the other employees that i didn't say that i didn't want cheese which is a lie. He was messing up orders the entire time i was in here, yet he tried to blame it on me. It's clear he doesn't listen. My sweet tea was absolutely unsweet. As i sit here and type this; i still don't have a drink after i gave it back over 15 minutes ago. I really do like McAllisters, but I'm unsure if i will come back to this location. read more

Me and my partner are coming up on eating here about 10 times now. We really enjoy the quality of sandwiches and soups that they offer. Recently I have tried the club sandwich and the French dip, so good. The broth for dipping the French dip was the best I've ever had, so rich and full of flavor. The broccoli and cheese soup is always hot, creamy and hearty. My girlfriend absolutely hates pickles and the younger girl that's taken our order a few times didn't specify that there was to be NO pickles like we asked. So when we got home her sandwich had basically been marinated in pickle juice from the pickle we didn't ask for. That's a pretty small concern though, plus I love pickles so no skin off my back! We've missed McAlisters since moving away from Oklahoma. But, I'm so torn writing this review. In the end I think if we had a staffing change or maybe better training, something could change here. We were here 11/18 12-1:15pm. At one point I assume a manager, female handed it to two employees in the back. She went all momma bear on them, because of the lack of work and their mood... I assume. It took 25 min for our food to be brought out after placing the order. The food was ok. Something's just missing here. But, the yelling could have also affected the work. The cashier was polite and helpful. But, you could tell he was not happy to be there. I assume because of the environment. Other customers took notice. McAlister's is one place we miss since leaving Georgia. Found myself in the area today and I asked my brother to make a pit-stop since he was playing chauffeur. Ordering was easy and quick. Staff didn't have name tags on, but receipt says Tyler. Whomever it was, was quick but also friendly. Even asked how I spell my name. Thought that was a nice touch. I ordered a side of ultimate nachos to-go for my husband. Twenty minutes go by and they call my name to tell me they have no tortilla chips but if I wanted a bag of Doritos to replace that, they'd be happy to accommodate. Lol, what? The other young man obviously also felt silly offering me that as a solution and he genuinely looked as baffled as I did. So I called my husband, and ended up asking for a refund. The woman issuing the refund was polite and prompt. I do think having someone wait twenty minutes to let them know you're out of a product is a little disrespectful. The kitchen looked pretty well staffed and food was flying out so I'm not sure why it took so long for someone to even glance at my ticket to say something. I also ordered a choose two for myself. My usual from down south. The McAlister Club and a half chipotle chicken spud. I do wish they were a little heavier handed with the honey mustard on the sandwich. My order had to have been done for a bit. I say that because spud wasn't hot at all, and the shredded cheese had melted together and was cool to the touch. It was a big disappointment. Especially for a dollar up-charge. All in all, we won't go out of our way to make a pit stop here again. This location does carry Gluten free Bread for their sandwiches, but if you're trying to Door Dash/Grub hub you won't be able to request it at this time (my experience). They carry sandwiches, Spuds, Soups, salads, and even Nachos : Savannah Chopped Salad Seasoned grilled chicken, dried cranberries, Gorgonzola, honey roasted almonds, tomato, and cucumber on mixed greens . I ordered mine w Raspberry Pecan Vinaigrette This salad was loaded. My only complaint was there was too much Gorgonzola for me personally, which was overpowering the salad. read more

I've been to McAlister's Deli before, the food has been phenomenal. I've tried the French Dip, the Club Sandwich the Savannah Chopped Salad and the Spud Max, all really tasty, all great choices! My favorite though is the Jalapeño Turkey Crunch which was my order today and it was as good and satisfying as I'd hoped. The jalapeño is baked into the bread, it's not too spicy and it adds a certain flavor that I just love. The crunch comes from potato chips in the sandwich...yep you read that right.... sounds weird but really compliments the texture somehow along with the turkey, avocado, bacon and pepperJack... the combo really works, if you like these things individually you're going to LOVE this selection! Truly, if I were just grading the sandwich I would give the place a solid 5 stars but unfortunately some of the other factors fell short. The Cucumber Tomato Salad side just wasn't that good. It was loaded with red onions and the marinade was tasteless. I didn't finish it. On top of that, the music was far too loud... 60's R and B, which I love but intermixed with some old school gagster rap which I could have dealt with were it not for the volume. It's no wonder most of the customers were sitting outside.... or it may have been because the inside tables needed a good wipe down and the floor a good sweep... my visit was 2:00pm on a Friday, not sure if that factored in or not. Having said all that, I'll be back because I do love a good Sandwich, Salad or Potato. I may even eat it there because food is so much better warm and fresh. Today was my 2nd time and most likely my last. The food is ok, but not anything to rave about. The prices are reasonable and the store itself is very nice. The staff definitely needs more training. Both times I've been they lack knowledge of how to run the cash register and how to ring up some items. They are not personable, friendly (not rude, just don't say hi, seem cheerful, etc.) The first time I went, it took forever to get my food and 3 times to get it correct. Sauces put on sandwiches that weren't supposed to be on there, and sauces that were asked to be left off. It was a hot mess. When I went this last time, my croissant was so dark and crispy. It looked very unappealing. I had asked for no onions on soup and it was covered in them. When I asked for a replacement, I was informed, at noon, they were out of potato soup. Soup wasn't even hot. They have broccoli and cheese soup on their menu, but this location doesn't serve it. Please cover it up. Just for notes-their sandwiches do not come warmed. Only the bread. Maybe after a few months they will be better, but I'm not planning to go back anytime soon. Very disappointed! read more

I typically order the same thing. What i can say is that the food is always fresh and delicious. Sometimes the service is a little slow which is to be expected with a young staff. Given time and mentoring it should allow this establishment to reach 4- 4.5 stars. It is situated in the PTC plaza where there are plenty of options and this is one of my preferences. read more

Looking for a decent quick spot to grab lunch. McAlister's is your place. You can't go wrong with a sandwich and chips. I got the garden Turkey sandwich with Sat and vinegar chips. Bite the sandwich and eat a couple of vinegar chips. It hits! But the sandwich was light, I wish it was a little bit more guacamole on it and the Turkey, but overall if you're going for something on the lighter side. Like a quick lunch with coworkers or maybe after working out. It's the sandwich for you. The wildberry lemonade you can't go wrong with it. It's not too sweet, it's just right. My prediction is that this business will not succeed in Hampton because of the horrible customer service and what has been described as "mediocre" food. I walked into the restaurant. There were no customers in the dining area but there were 3 employees there. The manager was sitting at a table in the dining area on his cell phone. Another employee was sweeping the dining area and the 3rd employee was pushing a cart around the dining area. Not one of them acknowledged my presence when I entered the store. There was no cashier behind the counter. I asked an employee for a paper menu so I could sit and read it. I was told that there were no paper menus. I sat at the table hoping that some one would acknowledge my presence, maybe make food recommendations and take my order; no one ever did. After sitting, waiting and hoping for about 15 mins, I left the store with the intention of never, ever returning there. Like most, I work very hard for my money. I refuse to give my hard earned money to any establishment that is so rude, disrespectful and disinterested that none of the 3 employees acknowledged me as I sat in their waiting store to place a order. I've door dashed from here before but half of my order was missing so, I decided to give it a try in person for a fair review. If a customer says they don't want something, your response shouldn't be "its on the side just give it to her since you don't want it" and then repeat "just give it to her" when delivering the food, just don't bring it for us to waste and throw away and save the comments? It was a huge red flag when I stated I wanted to place an order for carry-out and the cashier replied "we don't do that. Just dine-in and to go." So I placed a to go order instead. The cashier was nice and pleasant just a little slow with taking the order, no big deal. Then at the end of my order I let her know I had a coupon for a free item that I wanted to redeem. She didn't know how to do that... no problem let's figure it out together. Put the item in the order and see if it comes off when I scan the QR. "did it work?" "No." Couple seconds of awkwardness pass "let me go get my manager." Sounds great to me. Manager didn't know how to do it either. More awkward silence until the cashier suggests "maybe you'll just have to pay for your tea." I walked out. Won't go back. Life shouldn't be this hard you pay $15 for a sandwich. I fully blame the true managers. When they don't take the time to train the point of sale employees can't expect much else. I went for lunch today with a couple of my employees. Overall, I would not recommend due to health/cleanliness of the restaurant. The soup was cold and we were asked if we wanted it topped off and warmed up. My employee right away said no thank you due to sanitary reasons. I ordered the soup and half sandwich and they upsized my soup to a bowl but didn't ask, I didn't ask for a bowl but was charged $1.49 after I saw a bowl instead of a cup. Not a big deal but I ordered the soup and sandwich and it says cup on the menu. The guy taking the order asked if I wanted a pickle. I asked if it came with it, he said yes. I should have known cause it was a dollar for a pickle. They brought the food to my table and no pickle. I asked for one and they found the funniest looking pickle to give me. When we were done, we went to the front for refills. Tyler emptied the cups than took our used cups and used it to scoop up ice. We couldn't believe it and just said no thank you and walked out. I had the all time worst experience in your restaurant today. I placed an online order that I received confirmation that my order would be ready for pick up at 3:30pm. I walk into the establishment at 3:34pm to pick up. Upon getting to the register I was told that they didn't have any orders ready for pick up. I go back to my car to get my phone to verify pick up information. I walk back in with my phone and tell them I have an order that is supposed to be ready by 3:30pm. The employee tells me someone came in earlier and picked up the order already. I asked how when it wasn't supposed to be ready until 3:30. They said someone came in and gave them my name and picked up the order already. I proceed to try to show them my pick up details in my phone. How did this other person have my name? There's no way they would have my name if I ordered directly from your website for pick up. He then says I believe you have it but I'm telling you someone picked it up already. He then says I'll just make it again you'll just have to wait a few minutes. The energy I received was so negative, he made me feel like it was my fault some one else picked up my order. I said sir I feel like you are making it seem like it is my fault that someone else came in and took it. He said I'm just saying someone else got it, but I'll make it again. At this point I don't even want someone remaking my order with that type of energy. I just say never mind I don't even want it anymore because I can't wait as I have to pick up my daughter from school and I just leave. After stewing in my frustration, I decide to call the restaurant back to ask for the managers name. All to find out the gentleman I was speaking with was the one who had dealt this energy. He said he was going to run the camera back and see when it was picked up. He called me back and told me the order was picked up at 3:22pm by someone else and he could sent me a picture of them. I don't care who picked it up, because it wasn't me. Your process needs to be streamlined so this doesn't happen when people pick their food up. I will never go back to this location ever again.
