Nasty food in a nasty old broke down Pizza Hut from back in the 70's. I've only enjoyed one part when I have had to meet friends at this location. That'd be the cashier/baker/coffee brewer/any and everything else she does there. SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE'S DOING, and I was taken back when I learned she was not one of the shift managers. Instead, the shift manager (on several occasions) spent her time laughing so loud me and my co-workers decided to ask the PERFECT associate for several take out boxes. I'm sorry, but I refuse to listen to some middle aged manager whooping it up with teenage kids. (And the "content" of their conversations made me want to phone corporate on her.). But, the sweet middle aged all-knowing associate calmed me down, and explained it wouldn't do a thing to change the situation, anyway. I BELIEVED HER, whole-heartedly. This associate's name is Jamie, and I'd like to give her a shout-out. I certainly hope she's up front the next time I am told to meet my co-workers at this mess of a place, because if she's not then I won't give them any of my future business. read more

I love Panera and strongly recommend the Panera on Germantown Pkwy! I've got to say, though, I've given this location a shot several times since moving to Midtown and have never had good service! I'm always rushed, cashiers usually forget to ask for my Panera # and ask if I want a baguette or chips or here or To-go; and most of the time my food is served either room temperature or cold and not cooked all the way through. If you're wanting Panera, I say make the drive all the way out to Germantown Pkwy! My food is always delicious and the service is always amazing! Super sweet, friendly people, great management (never asked for them but have been greeted and spoiled by them just because they were a little busy before!), and consistent service :) read more

Awe, would somebody just hit me in the head with a big giant hammer, already? I don't have the 1st clue why I kid myself into thinking that "this time it'll be better"... I adore Panera as a rule. The Ridgeway location as well as the one out by Wolfchase is EXCELLENT too while this midtown Union Avenue location continually goes downhill. Why? The last time I went in around 3 or 3:30 it was empty. I asked "where everyone WAS?" I was told (by some female manager) that due to poor SALES the GM ordered labor cuts across the board. Now, if I'm wrong just say so, but she was just one of at least THREE managers who were there at the time. (They scoffed when it came time for me to place my order, the coffee was so old a truck driver wouldn't drink it, the tables were covered with grease and salad dressing, and there wasn't anyone on the food making line to MAKE MY ORDER!!) The lady's words were confusing because there were piles of dirty dishes so they must be making some food, plus there were at least 15 parties sitting at various tables. What's the CEO's name of this Panera? I'd LOVE to know!! I even took several pictures because I'm so frustrated with this Panera location. Maybe the good ol HEALTH DEPARTMENT needs to pay them a surprise visit! I am writing about the staff at the Poplar/I 240 store. This is the most caring staff of any of the Memphis stores. I saw an act of absolute kindness and generosity this morning. One of the female workers was on her break. She noticed a lady getting a cup of water and nothing else. After questioning the lady she discovered she had not eaten recently and suspected the lady was homeless. The lady was neat in appearance and bundled up against the cold. The Panera employee finished her break and bought out of her own pocket the lady's breakfast. No one saw this but me. What an act of kindness and generosity. I will return to this Panera because of this employee. Wow......please visit this location for kind,caring staff. They have always been quick to smile and serve their customers. read more

Panera Rewards = how they make up for all the cookies they don't give you in the drive thru. I wait just long enough to forget how bad it is, and then I go back to get burned again. We have been going to Panera for several years now. It's a great place for a chain. The food is always very fresh. However, we always wanted the option of a drive-thru, or at least a Panera close to our home in Midtown. Lo and behold, both wishes were granted and I am not disappointed. Other than a sweet and hard working older woman who is often playing the role of hostess and keeping the place clean, the majority of young staff act as if you're an inconvenience when ordering. Went to Panera last night to grab a quick bite and ordered the chicken salad in the drive through. After a several minute wait, they told me they were out and asked me to order something else. They offered a free drink and I declined because places run out of food. It isn't the employee at the drive thru fault. It took quite a while to get the food. The manager came out with a refund, a cookie, and a cinnamon roll. They went beyond on their customer service that night and considering the day I was having a nice touch. I like the midtown location. It is a nice spot to get some lighter fare in the midtown area. After last night I am a regular customer for sure. This must be some sort of cosmic punishment for getting drive-thru fast food -- I'm usually not the fast food type. But I was too tired to cook today and on a time crunch with work. I ordered a Steak & Blue Cheese Salad. I asked for gluten-free. They said no problem. I asked which soups don't have wheat -- they said the Broccoli-Cheddar was a good bet. Instead of the normal side of bread, I chose apples instead. Drove around, and the cashier notices they gave me bread instead of apples. She switches the sides for me. She also re-reads the nutrition info for Broccoli-Cheddar soup and it does indeed have wheat ingredients -- so I choose the gluten-free Autumn Squash soup instead. Once I'm home & famished & breaking into the box, I notice the 'steak' in my Steak Salad is a raw, red, bloody mess -- not the cooked beef strips you see in the menu. They also were nice enough to put breaded onion ring crispies all over the 'gluten-free' salad.. Anyway, I know I can't depend on this restaurant to get my order correct so I'm not sure if I'll be returning to this location. The Poplar/240 location is much, much better. read more

This location is horrible! Worst customer service ever and they make mistakes with my order in the drive thru just about every time. The last time I went there, no one said anything or greeted me when I pulled up to the drive thru. I waited for a while and I finally asked if they're taking orders. The girl who sounded like she had an attitude said that she's just waiting on me. No "Hi" or anything and just waiting on me to just start ordering? Of course, when I pulled up to pay, they missed half of my order. My lentil quinoa bowl was half empty and I was not given any plastic utensils to eat with. There is a problem every time I go to this Panera Bread location so I am looking for other quick but "healthier" fast food options in the area. read more

I have never had a problem with service at any Panera around the country but the past few times I've been to this Panera they have substituted the bread you get with soup and on your sandwich without asking. They forgot to make a drink even though I asked a few times and then when they did make t they put it in the drive thru window when I ordered inside and gave me a bagel that had a while so big in the middle it was about 1/3 the side of a normal bagel. Oh, I could hardly believe I was actually in an actual Panera at this Union Ave. location. My cashier was extremely helpful due to a few differences in menu items, and she was smiling and upbeat!! Imagine that! Wow! But--After placing my order it was all downhill from there. Nothing stocked at the drink stations, dirty tables, soup, crumbs and dirty dishes littered the entire restaurant. I'd ordered my food to be eaten there inside, and I really just wanted to find one clean spot to sit. So, I turned to someone who claimed to be "management"... THIS ghetto fab oldie did absolutely NOTHING!! Wait... I take that back, she turned to the woman who'd previously rang my order and snapped at her; like the GROWN WOMAN was this managers personal slave. So, I guess if you ever visit Memphis's Union Ave. Panera you should simply ask the petite blonde ringing you up to literally "walk you through the Panera like she really has the time to do that for everyone". I give the food I received a TWO STAR rating. It wasn't made correctly, but I was a bit hesitant to complain, as I worried they'd call upon that cashier to re-make what a food preparer should be responsible for. So, why don't they have any staff members that seem to possess a properly working BRAIN?? It was like a Gangster Disciple gathering in that ratchet Panera! I went here today for a bagel pack, coffee, and orange juice. I was told that the coffee was a catering menu item but they would be happy to accommodate me. This was not true. It took them 40 minutes for my order and when i finally asked about it 35 minutes after I had ordered, they hadn't even filled my coffee carton or sliced by bagels. I asked for a manager who was unapologetic and tried to tell me they hadn't charged me for an item (that they had) as compensation for my horrible service. Won't be going back. read more

I'm wowed by how much better this location is than others I have visited. The staff offered to take our meal to the table when my kids were clearly breaking down.
