This location is gorgeous! The outside is so nicely kept and the inside is so so so modern. I was greeted and helped immediately. I loved the screen customers could read to see where their order was in the process. I just ordered soups for lunch, and both were so tasty!

Later, when he asked about the manicotti & I said it was amazing, he asked if it was better than the soup. I said it was much much better and that I knew next time I visited I'd get the Caesar salad instead of the soup. He said he'd bring one to go, since their Caesar dressing is amazing. I said that wasn't necessary, but he brought one anyway. Wow. Portions are very large (without the extra salad, my manicotti would still be three meals for me) & the food is delicious. I like the look of the restaurant and was surprised to see that they had TV's & a bar. Much nicer than I expected given the location.

A couple of us were really excited to try the chicken parm, but we were quickly disappointed by the lack of flavor (very, very bland) and how thick the pieces of chicken were. Our server was very attentive when we first arrived, but as our meal went on, she was no where to be found for drink refills, to check in, etc. In fact, we had to wait a good 20 minutes after we were finished eating for her to appear so we could ask for the check. Choosing to eat here ended up being a regret and waste of money. We spent over $100 for a meal that I honestly could have done a better job cooking at home...and I'm not even that great of a cook! Needless to say, we won't be back and don't recommend wasting your time and money here.

The Christy house has two seatings only on Fridays-one at 11 am and the other at 12:45 pm. I was fortunate enough the get the 12:45 time slot. Online reservations don't work. You actually need to call St Stephen's at the number given on their website. The Christie house sits in back of St. Stephen's on Frederick St in Sewickley. When we arrived the 11:00 group was still letting out but we waited patiently while they set up the tables for our sitting. The place was packed but the two of us were seated once we confirmed the reservation. Since this was their Christmas dinner every lady received a fake rose corsage to wear. A very nice touch! We were greeted by several volunteers who took our order and gave us each samples of their holiday spritzer. Although we were looking forward to hot tea the temperature was warm so we settled for ice tea. The dining room was enhanced with nice china, holiday linens and holiday decor on our serving plates. Today's menu which changes weekly consisted of butternut squash soup, lobster bisque, holiday green salad with roasted pork tenderloin. With the soup you can opt for a bowl of one or a cup of two. We decided to try everything so we chose the latter. The complete meal was served together. I could really enjoy the homemade taste of the butternut squash soup as well as the lobster bisque. The roll was tiny but just enough for a dainty meal. The pork was tender and the salad was good as well. When we were done they brought out a cookie tray with many duos of small cookies. I was tempted to eat them all but ate as many as I could. Baked fresh I got filled up on these faster than the main course. We were given a basket to pay our check-cash only accepted. $12.00 per person. That's a real deal for all this food! Plus you are giving back to the church that sponsors it so it's a worthy cause. One of the waitresses who served us suggested we come back for Mother's day when they also do a special tea luncheon. After we ate we browsed the 2 gift shops on the premises. The downstairs one known as "the Needle's eye" had new holiday items while the two upstairs one known as "Earthly treasures" had vintage items for sale. The Christie house is staffed by church volunteers and people who wish to help out St. Stephen's. The Christie house which is an old Victorian house can also be rented. Metered street parking is available for a minimal fee. Expect to stay at least 1 1/2 hours for your visit. Reservations are not required but highly recommended. They will post the menu online as well. They will reopen on Fridays after the New Year.

Flavors of pierogies include potato, potato cheese, potato bacon, potato sauerkraut, sauerkraut, lekvar prune, potato cheese jalapeno, cottage cheese, spinach ricotta, spinach feta, roast beef, sausage, cheese pepperoni, buffalo chicken, and some seasonal flavors. Other foods include stuffed cabbage, stuffed pepper, kielbasa, haluski, goulash, borsch, mashed potatoes, green beans, some desserts, etcetera. Many of the foods are available as either hot/ready-to-eat for dine-in or cold/frozen for takeout. For over a decade, I have bought foods from their location in Wexford, and I recently tried this location in Moon Township for the first time. Two employees spoke little English, but they promptly and politely served me. The interior of the restaurant has no seating, and the outside has one small table with two chairs, so this restaurant is mostly takeout. I rate the potato-cheese pierogies and the kielbasa as 5 stars. I rate the haluski, stuffed pepper, and stuffed cabbage as 4 stars.

Downey's House provided the local spot I needed. An ice cold Yuengling on draft went down very well, and while I didn't find pierogis on the menu, I settled for a phenomenal bowl of spaghetti & meatballs. Local marinara & meatballs made with the same recipe of the old Main Hotel that was in Carnegie for nearly 100 years. That bowl of pasta was SCRUMPTIOUS and just what I was after. I even talked my lovely wife into doing up her salad 'Pittsburgh style', which means adorning the salad with fries. And yes, it's as good as it sounds. Thrown in a protein like grilled chicken and that is a banger of a meal. Great dining area with a square-shaped bar and TVs with sight-lines in any direction. Our server was very friendly, but we could tell she was a little frazzled from the large crowd she had on hand. We were able to place our order and get our food within our work lunch timeframe, though. I ordered a turkey club to go along with two apps that we shared: breaded mushrooms and jalapeño poppers. Both were good, but I thought the jalapeño poppers were just a little better than the mushrooms. They were thick, stuffed, and spicy. My turkey club came with a pickle spear and a side of ridgey chips. The club was good, but definitely could've used some kind of sauce. They brought me out a little container of mayo, but i'm not a mayo fan. So, the sandwich was a little dry for me. They really loaded it up with turkey! I ended up taking half home for lunch the following day. Also, on Tuesday's they have a free cookie for each patron! They were chocolate chip and they were definitely fresh and chewy. I would certainly go back for lunch outside again in the future.
