I've come to this Panera Bread location many times. Its a reliable place to get healthy food while traveling. Everyone can find something that they can eat. On this trip, my husband and I stopped in to get a Sips Club drink on our way while on the road. We got in and out pretty fast and without any problems. The bathrooms were nice and clean. I placed an online order to pick up in the drive through. I'm pretty rigid about following directions so I waited until the message came that my order was ready. Of course it's not a speedy drive through, but I told myself once I get to the window all I have to do is pick up and go. After 10 minutes in line I reached the service window. Apparently they were out of Asiago cheese bagels and would I like to substitute or refund? I chose the substitute and that was a mistake as it took them another 10 minutes to prepare that part of my order. I dont understand why they couldn't have simply notified me that there was an issue prior to me entering the queue. They were able to mistakenly inform me that my order was completed. Wow! The manager needs to be present or re-train. I used the kiosk to order, the girl at the counter didn't welcome us or smile but gave me the clear impression she would NOT be taking my order. After I ordered there were no vibrating alert things available despite there being only 5 customers in the store. I asked where the cups were and the girl pointed - not speak - where to find them. Not one napkin available in the store, at the napkin dispenser or even in the bathroom, ZERO napkins or paper towels. I have gone to this Panera many times and today as usual, I ordered some bagels for carryout. When I got home and had it, I can tell you that it was so fresh that it bounced back when I touch the inside of the bagel. Ah, I love nothing but the freshness of the food. I had was on a road trip driving from Chicago to St. Louis. Since I passed all of the other Paneras near Chicago, this location was the next closest stop. I placed my Panera order through the online app. I had about an hour until I was expected to arrive and was concerned I would end up with cold, soggy food when it was time to pick up. I set the pick up time to match my arrival time based on gps. It was perfect timing! The Panera was super busy, since it was a Saturday around 11:30am. I got to skip the line and my food was made to order ready as the expected. Bathrooms are clean and would likely recommend to anyone driving through Highway 55. They also have both indoor and patio seating. Panera is a healthier choice than fast food for road trips and glad when it's on the way! It's also location directly behind a circle K gas station if you need to fill up on gas before you start back. read more

My recent trip to Panera was a huge success, and clearly showed me why Panera has a strong foothold in the food service industry. My customer service representative, Cadence, went out of her way with a smile on her face to serve me. She then politely made conversation while promptly taking and finalizing my order. The food was fresh and delicious despite almost zero wait time. Panera clearly displayed the new standard for costumer service and quality fast food. I want to love Panera. It's been a staple over the years. I don't know if it is previous management/current management, a tight labor market or COVID or all of the above but the overall experience at this Panera in the last 18-24 months is not great. It's really gone down hill. They were understaffed recently and just turned off their online ordering capabilities for a week. What the heck? Thus I had to go inside to place a to go order and it was packed. I did not feel comfortable waiting for my food in there and being reasonably social distanced. The only positive about my recent visit was the Smoke Chicken Margherita Flatbread sandwich (no sauce). Ordered through UberEats and they completely forgot my flatbread, the side baguette was just bouncing around out of the bag it's supposed to come in, and my bag was completely unsealed, so I have no clue if it was the store than forgot my stuff or the driver who took it. May I suggest stapling your bags or putting a "freshness seal" sticker over the opening so I can at least know who messed up my order. $40+ for a single cookie, a loose piece of bread, and some ok soup. We are loyal Panera customers and have visited many in several states. This is by far the worst Panera. We have tried it several times. It is generally very dirty. In November, we tried to go to this location but they had closed the inside service. Most recently on December 22, the kiosk was slow and they lost our order. When we went to the counter, we were told they could not find our order nor our Panera loyalty account. They said they were busy and it would take at least a half hour to make a new order. The help was very unhelpful. We finally went across the street to Jimmy Johns. This store must have a very bad manager and franchise owner. read more

I visited panera in Normal, IL today, and to my surprise, I got the poorest customer service I could have imagined. There was no one at the cashier front to assist me and one other customer. I waited 18 minutes, and the other customer waited at least 10 minutes before someone bothered to service us. After a few minutes of standing there, I called out hello loudly to get someone's attention. The heavy set male came from around the corner from taking an order that was to be picked up the following morning. He said he would be w me shortly. Fifteen minutes later, he approaches the counter with no apology or anything. It was totally unacceptable customer service, especially as I noticed no less than five employees in the back. Someone, anyone could have been sent to the front to assist, but I guess that made too much sense. I am a frequent customer of Panera's and usually try to locate an establishment when I travel. We're long time customers. More and more dissatisfied every time we go since a while now, hence the low rating review. Way too expensive for what they serve, nothing looks like the menu items (pictures) and certainly not in the quantities shown. They're always out of this and that no matter how early you go, same excuse: "oh sorry, we had a big order this morning, we're out". They switch to the lunch menu before advertised lunch time. Seems constantly chaotic, only one person at the counter multitasking and trying to serve more than one customer at a time. No sign of manager or responsible person. For over a decade, Pantera has made a name for themselves synonymous with incorrect orders and missing items. They must have gone through three or four renewed pledges to make orders right that I've seen. They're still as bad as ever, even with a pared down breakfast menu. They frequently forget one of the four ingredients in a four ingredient order, miss sandwiches and sides placed at the drive thru, and serve up the worst drinks in town (melted smoothies, pure snow-white iced coffee's with cream, sour coffee). I went through drive-thru at 8:15 pm on a Friday night. I ordered soup, 2 salads, and 2 cinnamon crunch bagels. While I sat at the drive thru window I watched a worker pull what looked to be a very burnt sandwich out of a oven and I thought to myself that that sandwich should get throw away. Well wouldn't you know that not only that sandwich not get thrown away, they took it to another area out of my sight wrapped it up and put it in my bag. I live 45 minutes away. So when I saw that they f___ed me and I call them it's too late and they are closed . What ever happened to common decency and customer service. What is it? It's either I don't care about my job performance or you hate me because of what? And when I call the manager he apologized but he then says I send you a voucher to replace the food. I will NOT be surprised to not ever see that voucher because he asked for my name (and my name is not easy to spell) he never asked how to spell my name. He either is a very rare person who knows how to spell my last name, or he has no intention to send out the voucher. And I would rather have my money back because I do NOT want to give them a chance to do this to me again. I have spent over 300-400 dollars with this store since COVID hit. Overall, this is a pretty standard Panera Bread, but I feel it can get much busier here than most, especially over the lunch hour. I wouldn't dare try to eat inside over lunch as the tables and parking spaces are hard to find. I do find their rapid pick up to be extremely useful. I order online through their app, park in the designated rapid pick up spot (it's never taken), and run in to pick up my food. It's always ready once I get there so I never have to wait around inside. Their drive-thru seems to be quite slow, so the rapid pick up option takes about 10 minutes off my trip. The salads they offer are tasty, however, the overall value of their meals are not the greatest. A standard size salad without a drink is a little over $10.
