Absolutely blown away by how great this Panera was. Everyone was genuinely kind, welcoming, and professional from the moment we walked in. The food was fresh, hot, and some of the best quality we've had from a Panera in a long time. The restaurant was also very clean and well kept. What stood out most was the customer service. Unlike some other Panera locations in the area, nobody acted irritated or like we were bothering them just for ordering or asking questions. I went through the drive through tonight and had a very poor experience. First, I tried to order the strawberry poppyseed salad, but they were out of poppyseed dressing. Then, I tried to order the new shrimp salad, but they were out of shrimp. So, bingo! I ordered the Asian chicken salad because it's something they had. However, when I got up to the window I was handed a bagel and told my smoothie would be right out. I told him I didn't order either. He walked away, came back, and handed me a smoothie! I told the guy at the window that I had ordered a salad! I finally got the salad. I get home, open the salad, and pour what I thought was ginger dressing on my salad. Nope. Many times I have driven by the Panera Bread next to Tanglewood Mall, and have been very impressed by the beautiful architectural design of its building and simple yet elegant logo. But what really caught my attention and moved me was when I researched their mission and discovered that they believe that "good food served in warm, welcoming spaces by people who care" can bring out the best in all of us. After being awarded the NC Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And this Panera Bread next to Tanglewood Mall off Electric Road in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. As I entered their restaurant, I was impressed by their clean, organized, and comfortable spaces. Their ordering counter was made of beautiful color wood and their menus were hanging from the wall behind with spotlights pointing at them. And on the left, it turned into several pastries and desserts glass display cases. Aside in front of the counter, they had two tables with four ordering computer stations. I appreciated the convenience but I waited for the order taker employee to come out. A young lady, Jenessa, finally arrived with a smile and gave me a friendly greeting and warm welcome. I asked her what soups they had and she pointed them out very well. Then I asked her what were some of the sandwiches she would recommend and she named a few and the reason why she had mentioned each. I ended up ordering half of the Chicken Bacon Rancher which had grilled, applewood smoked bacon, aged white cheddar, and ranch on their Black Pepper Focaccia. And a bowl of the Black Bean Soup, which came with a French Baguette side. Then I asked about their desserts and she mentioned that at this time of the day all bakery items were at half price. I took another look at them and ordered the Cherry Pastry, and a small Dr Pepper to drink, since today we celebrate Dr Pepper Day here in the Star City of Roanoke. I remembered once I had downloaded their app and became a Panera member so by giving her my phone number, she was able to find me and give me reward points for my purchase today. She gave me a cup for my drink and a pager or beeper to take with me to let me know when my food would be ready to pickup at the pick-up counter. When called, I got up and gave my name to a very nice young gentleman employee, who handed me a long white plate with my soup and sandwich. The Black Bean Soup was amazingly delicious and hot. And the French Baguette was fresh, and soft in the inside. It was so good that it made me think of returning for breakfast. The sandwich was also amazing with lots of chicken pieces and all the item I mentioned before. And the Cherry Pastry was one of the best I've ever had. As if this all was not enough for an extraordinary dining experience, the manager of the restaurant gave me a visit to see how I was doing and to see if all has been to my satisfaction. You can imagine what I told him. In conclusion I highly recommend this restaurant for the comfortable ambiance, the amazing food, and for the excellent customer service, providing an extraordinary dining experience. read more

The food was good and tasty but very expensive. one of the cashiers had bad attitude and hardly even answered our questions, she was a white woman with long-sleeve tattoos and wore glasses. When we wanted to leave we saw a car parked very close to ours and we couldn't even get inside our car so we asked a worker to ask everyone and just a few minutes later we asked again and the she lied saying "the manager asked all of our customers and they said it isn't any of theirs even the customers" but me and my mother knew they were lying so we personally asked the customers and we found the customer that parked close to our car. Very bad service but food was very good but expensive. the theme of the restaurant was ok I liked the theme but the chairs hurt to sit on and the tables are really small. Horrible experience. I've been going to this location for a few weeks now due to my job closeby and each time I've ordered anything it's been crappy . They are always cutting corners .. either the order is messed up with major ingredients missing or taste completely off. Every time I'm in pick up lane my order is delayed or misplaced. So disappointing. My family used to come here all the time, but it has just gone so downhill. Employees were being rude to several frustrated customers. We ordered our food and waited for almost an hour before it was ready. If they were so far behind they could have been warning people so there wasn't any surprise/frustration about the wait time, and returned rudeness to the frustrated customers. I never said anything, I just sat and waited. Finally our food comes out, I order the same sandwich everytime I've ever came to Panera- and I always have to order extra sauce, bc usually it's very dry. So I order extra sauce like usual- and it's like they wanted to try and punish you for asking for extra? It seemed like a petty level of extra sauce. So much sauce the bread was soggy and I could not see any of the other ingredients on my sandwich. But we just waited for about an hour now at this point so I suck it up and pick up the "less" soggy half to start eating and all I taste is salt. Like someone accidentally dumped piles of salt on the food. And it wasn't the chipotle sauce. Instant heartburn. I took 2 bites but just could not do it. Terribly disappointed in this Panera. When we entered the Restaurant, we were confronted by a harsh female voice telling us that it would be a 20-30 minute wait in getting our order, they we backed up with orders. I assume it was from call-in orders because there were very few customers sitting at the tables. It took 50 minutes to get our lunch and we had to listen to a frustrated lady screaming out people's names and order numbers. Of course we were given a pager to let us know when our meal was ready, but they didn't bother using the pager ... guess it was easier to yell out numbers. When our order was ready, I was surprised to see that my wife's cup of soup contained more than my bowl. I asked the lady behind the counter if this was correct. She informed me that the bowl has three cups and the cup was only two. I pointed out that it was clearly less than the cup and if she has an empty cup I'll show her. Extremely disappointed. We ordered ahead for pick up on the app, only to have to wait 15 minutes in line to get the order from behind the counter. No longer fresh or hot. The salads came with dressing not even 1/4 cup full of dressing... of the 1oz cup.... The sandwiches we order were supposed to come with no mayo on ciabatta bread. I know with COVID there are shortages of both items and staff, but recently I stopped in and found them to be closed early so that was very disappointing. This was by far my worst Panera experience, and probably take out experience of all time anywhere. I decided to have lunch here today, so I placed my order through the app as I usually do and received a notification that my order would be ready in about 9 minutes. When I arrived to the store and walked inside, to say the environment was pandemonium would be an understatement. There were dozens of frustrated customers waiting on orders, no one was behind the register, and there was one person in the kitchen. Eventually, some customers became so frustrated that they started yelling into the back of the store to try and get anyone's attention to which a buser emerged and said "I'm not a cashier" and then proceeded to clean off tables. An employee eventually walked over to the cash register and seemed annoyed at the situation. A customer asked for the status of their order as they had been waiting for a very long time. The cashier walked over to the kitchen to check, and then came back and said they don't know because the screens only show so many orders at a time and there are over 20 orders pending right now. Then they began announcing to everyone that it's going to be a 35 minute wait for food. About 20 minutes and 2 orders later, the GM stepped into the kitchen to help out and looked annoyed the whole time too. In total, I waited over 40 minutes for my order: one sandwich, one drink, one pastry. I had to eat in the car because my entire lunch break was gone. Fortunately, I was able to quickly eat my lunch before I had to go back to work. Unfortunately, it was because half of my sandwich was burnt and inedible and the other unburnt half had no toppings on it. Oh, and they forgot the pastry. I spent $21. I used to eat at the Electric Rd location all the time, when they first opened and the first several years they were great. Now I'm ALWAYS disappointed. I got a garden salad and was given the wrong dressing once. I didn't realize till I'd already put it on my salad, it was a terrible mix... I had to throw it out. The bread isn't good anymore, it's as though they don't let it rise enough before they bake it. Today not only hadn't it risen enough but it was tough and stale. This place has really gone down hill. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the cashier helped me find gluten free options in their nutrition book. My recent visit to this Panera on Sunday, March 24 was anything but ideal. I placed an order to go. As I mentioned above, the cashier was very helpful. After ordering I went to use their bathroom while waiting for my order. The bathroom was atrocious. It was dirty and crusty. The toilets look as if they haven't been cleaned or wiped down in weeks. There was fecal matter pieces on the back of the toilet and seat. When I went to wash my hands the sink looked like it had residue along the entire structure and hair stuck in in the drain. When I exited the bathroom, I immediately told an associate, who didn't seem phased by my concerns. The food was okay and the service relaxed yet efficient.
