I've gone to this location twice now. And I must say, the second time was even better than the first. Reason? I went for the Panini instead of a traditional two-slice hot sandwich. I ordered a Turkey Artichoke Panini. Not only was it cooked to perfection, but it was tasty and moderately sized. Having "Bread" in their name, you'd assume it's their specialty. Luckily, they totally deliver and the bread has great consistency and exceptional taste. In addition, my meal came with either a side of chips or an apple. How many cafes out there offer a fruit as an option? I totally dug it. I must make a special mention about their Hot Chocolate. Whoooaa Nelly, it's fantastic! My wife ordered a cup and I couldn't help but leech off her. It was creamy and perfectly sweetened. Thumbs up. -1 Star for price. We ended up spending nearly $20 for our meals with drinks. Pretty nice coffee/pastry/sandwich shop. The coffee's not great and the counter help is uneven, but the breads and pastries and nice ambience make up for it. Some cozy chairs. Seating available outside. Decent artwork on the walls. Very clean. Plenty of parking. Community bulletin board. Terrific chocolate croissants -- the best I've found in San Jose, though I have to qualify that by saying I haven't gone to the really high end pastry shops in town. My family and I are big fans of Panera. Why shouldn't we? They were voted #1 Healthiest Food To Go! Aside from their nutritious eats, we love this location in particular because of their friendly staff. Upon entry, we are always greeted with a warm smile from the people behind the registers, who are always patiently waiting to take our orders. After being regulars at this location for about 2 years now, I finally decided to write a review. Why? Because of my experience today: We decided to grab lunch here and got my 1 year old a turkey and cheese sandwich. As I was breaking her sandwich apart, I noticed a piece of (what I thought at the time) tape in between the cheese and the turkey. I must've said it pretty loud because I saw a lady, Carmina (i think?), who was graciously picking up customers' bowls, trays, etc., rush back to tell one of the chefs. In less than 2 minutes, Juan Carlos came up to our table and offered to make us another sandwich. I told him that it was only a piece of plastic wrap from the cheese and it really wasn't necessary for him to do that. Went today and it was a bit crowded, I suppose due to the marathon earlier in the day. Had a pretty simple order from the "line-cook" staff...a cup and a bowl of soup. 20min later, no food, so I go in rather irked to have someone who looks like George Costanza from Seinfeld tell me that he buzzed and paged me over the intercom. Maybe the pager was running low on batteries, but absolutely nothing over the intercom. Maybe he forgot to press the button on the mic, but offered absolutely no apology and here we were sitting with lukewarm cups of slop. I would have asked to have it reheated or a refund, but we had a schedule to keep, so took a few sips mouthed off at the guy and left. Simple apology and/or offer to reheat the food would have diffused the situation. +2 stars for the friendly cashier. I didn't realize pastries were 99cents when buying something else, and in all honesty, if I were charged full price, I wouldn't have noticed. So props to her integrity and letting me know. read more

I always go to panera and find the food light and yummy. Just right. It doesn't blow my mind but it's something safe and healthy that I know I can fall back on. Normally I get good service here too. Today was an exception. I ordered my half turkey sandwich on wheat with half of the fuji apple salad with the dressing on the side! The lady taking my order was very nice and accommodating. Our buzzer goes off prematurely, ahhh what a bummer:-/. Then our order was ready, I see my salad and then I see a weird sandwich...I ask what it was. Tuna! Who ordered tuna, not I! Then she says oh sorry, and started making my turkey sandwich. She then throws it onto the plate. The sandwich looked like it was kid sized for god sake! It was all thrown there not even half assed made. I then realized my salad had the dressing mixed in and my sandwich was on white. I am a huge fan of Panera & visit a few times a month. I am from Sacramento but I eat Panera everywhere I go.. My last visit to this location was Friday afternoon. I paid for the Greek salad & add avocado to it for a little bit extra. I didn't mind paying the extra but I was sad to be informed the chicken Cobb & avocado has been removed from the menu. The staff was all rude & seemed to not want to help or answer any questions. I got a soup/salad with a baguette but once I got to the car I realized there was no baguette in the bag. When I went back in to ask for one the workers were very rude & asked for a receipt... What??? Plus the "extra" avocado I paid for was one tiny slice the size of the tip of my finger.. Very disappointed. A waste of time & money. Hope the other Paneras in the area are better than this one. read more

Ten years ago Panera Bread was my favorite sandwich place in Florida. It took awhile for the chain to follow me to California, but now that it has, I am happy to chow on their excellent sandwiches (my favorite is the roast beef with horseradish), soups, and pastries. I find the quality of their food to be much higher, and healthier, than Quizno's. The Coleman location is a great place to stop by after landing at San Jose airport. You can also conveniently stop at the other stores (PetSmart, Target, Trader Joe's, etc.) in this relatively new shopping plaza. read more

Mmm.. their $7 paninis are bomb diggity. That's all I've really tried here. But I'd definitely recommend it for lunch. Their bread is really toasted, so when you take a bite it's very crunchy and delicious. I recommend the chicken bacon dijon! I feel that Panera is a healthier choice when looking for something tasty, light, but fulfilling for lunch. Perfect place for a lunch date to catch up with an old friend. PS. Don't get the apples! When they ask you if you want chips, apples, or a baguette, don't choose the apples! Okay I've tried alot more items since I'm studying here a couple days a week. I like the 'Pick any Two' option of soup, salad, or half a sandwich. It gives me a bit of variety. Each time you choose a Signature dish, it's another extra buck...so your pick any two option can cost anywhere from $7 bucks to $9 bucks. I've had the Ceasar salad, asian chicken salad, the clam chowder (with not very many clams), and various sandwiches. They were all consistently alright. Nothing too special. I also like drinking the Cafe Mochas in a fattty mug. Oh and I found out this week the cookies are 99 cents if you buy them with a meal, otherwise there are about $2. Cookies are just ok, could be softer. So again the food is overall ok, but the service and speediness of getting your order is what sticks out for me. I am officially in love with Panera Bread. I still remember a long long time ago when I thought Panera Bread simply had.. well, bread. That's why I never went into one. It wasn't until a couple of months ago when I was in Millbrae waiting for my boyfriend and one of the food places was Panera. So I thought to myself, "well I guess I can get a pastry or something." Come to my surprise that Panera Bread has salad, sandwiches, soup, cold drinks, and espresso drinks! For the people who know me, know that I am a sucker for sandwiches/soups/salads. I absolutely love it. Went to this particular location today because it's (pretty) close to SJSU, where I go to school. I had the Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich and an iced Chai Tea Latte. The Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich was delicious and oh-so-fresh. Also, the Chai Latte was awesome. It's hard to find places with a good Chai Latte. Most places don't make it right or use the wrong things to make it. My boyfriend had the Chicken Chipotle Sandwich and the Pumpkin Spiced Latte, both which he loved. The Pumpkin Spiced Latte is huge and also very yummy. Panera is a bit on the more expensive side, but not too much. And as another Yelper mentioned, I noticed that it was very cold in here today. I guess it's better than it being too hot or stuffy. Luckily I had a sweater on due to the decreasing temperature in San Jose or else I probably would have froze. Anyhow, I'll definitely come back to Panera. And start going to the other locations too. Oh, and free wifi! I am not a huge fan of the coffee or baked goods but I enjoy the salads, sandwiches, and soups. My favorite salads are the steak and blue cheese and the fuji apple and chicken. Both have great flavors, taste fresh, and are a good portion size. They're perfect when I don't want something too heavy. The asiago roast beef sandwich is delicious and I like that I can get a bag of chips or an apple. It's nice to be able to take either of those home and I appreciate the healthier option of fruit. For soup I love the french onion and the black bean. They're great on cold nights. Overall Panera is always clean, the service is fast and friendly, and prices are reasonable. I don't crave it all the time, but it's definitely a great place for a casual lunch or dinner. read more

Corporate run bakeries and restaurants I rate a little differently. They have a standard that they must meet per headquarters to ensure that customers have the same experience at every location. That being said, if you meet the standard I would give you 3 stars off the back. Anything above and beyond that, is a bonus and has everything to do with the location's method of operation rather than the corporate culture. Panera is a great chain. I especially like this location because it is literally down the road from my office at work. The hours are great, they are open early by 0600 hrs Mon-Sat and open at 0700 hrs on Sun. Most of the time I have been there, they have been quick and helpful. We usually send a large order on Fridays or on the weekend by calling them and then sending someone to pick it up. I've done it over 20 times and have only had two mistakes that I recall. (The last mistake was a week ago; they forgot my 4 cheese souffle and I had to make a special trip back to get a refund - D'oh). Pro's: -this location is remarkably clean for the number of guests they service. -the have pretty good customer service -quality of food and quantity is consistent -FREE WI-FI -cafe style seating outside Con's: -soups not available until brunch time (i know most places are the same, but it would be nice if they had it avail a little earlier) -the occasional mistake on take out orders (check your bags) -the individually package each item (someone needs to remind them that living green saves them money and saves the environment) really would give them a 3.5 if half stars were an option. read more

Impeccable service! The cashier was really patient in helping me find the best vegan options. He didn't get frustrated with me despite my indecisiveness. My food came out 2 minutes after I sat down! The place is specious and very clean. Although I stopped by during lunch, it was not overcrowded. The only thing I didn't like is that I added avocado to my salad for extra charge and got 2 slices. Best and most friendly services of all the Panera that I've been to (from East to West coast). I used to hang out here a lot after my work hour. I enjoy how clean they maintain this place, and have made friends with many of the people within this facility. I also enjoy the free wifi that they offer. I think the near by Starbucks charges for wifi before. I don't know if they still do. The pastries are also to die for, this is especially true when the just come out of the oven, and they actually announces too. Even ones on the counter are delicious. I really LOVE Panera, but the last 2 times i have been to this location they have gotten my order wrong! I get my order to go and am assuming that everything is correctly made when i leave, since everything was good on my receipt. My first order was a salad with chicken added and no tomatoes and a (cold) turkey sandwich. When i got to where i was going to eat, the salad was missing the chicken and it had tomatoes. My sandwich wasn't even a turkey sandwich, it was a (hot) chicken panini. Since this was my first bad experience with them i just brushed it off. The next time i go in there to order, i get the same thing. I noticed it was the same person making the food who made my order last time, so i figured i would check my order before i leave this time. Sure enough the chicken was missing from the salad. I went back and asked for the chicken and she put it on my salad and said sorry about that. Thankfully everything else was ok. Other than the mix up on the order, the staff is VERY friendly and fast and the environment is chill. I will continue to eat here until they open the new panera that's down the street from my house. :) But if you're getting a to go order, check your food before you leave to make sure it's what you ordered! read more

Panera Panera what can I say? Well for starters my fiancé and I go here almost every Wednesday for lunch. Considering we go here during that time it can get pretty busy but service is pretty damn fast. They recently installed kiosk/tablets where you can now place your order so that always helps. Seating is plenty and we've never had any trouble finding a table or booth during the lunch rush hour. On to the food. I love the pick 2 because that always fills me up. I usually get the cobb chicken salad with the bbq flatbread sandwich or the frontega chicken panini with chicken ceasar salad. I always get the bread because it's the bomb!! read more

They never have bread bowls when I have went there. It is winter and I love my hot soup in a bread bowl. It seems that if you go after 2pm, they are out of everything. They even ran out of the bread that comes with your meal. This is the closest to me but i will go the distance to the Campbell one. This is one of the newer Panera's in the area and it used to be much better. It seems that every time I go the turkey sandwich I buy is different. Sometimes there are red onions, sometimes not. Sometimes the french onion soup is delicious, other times it tastes old. One consistent thing that I have noticed is that the croutons are almost always stale and squishy. Eww. They do, however, have a decent variety of pastries and other breakfast edibles. The bread is normally good, and if you ask they will cut it for you in whatever you want (slices, crouton, etc.) which is cool. 2.5 stars. read more

I got it to go and was disappointed when I finally opened it. The mac n cheese was pretty much like soup and the bowl was 1/2 if maybe 2/3 full. Manager is a jerk. I was ordering and my two year old found a microwave basically on the floor so it was at his level. He was opening and shutting it yes but not destructive. I would have had him stop but I was paying. The manager came over and yelled at him to stop making him cry. That's not how anyone should talk to a child. I told him not to correct my child and he said that's my equipment! I told him it's a microwave and if you have an issue with him then talk to me about it and I will correct it. His tone was so rude. Unlike Starbucks or other cafe businesses, instead of having struggling new employee, they put cafe manager at Front Register to ensure the customer first impression with the restaurant. You walk in . You get this feeling of " order here. Pick up there. Find yourself a place to sit. Bye " But they told you to sit down , and they will bring the food out to you . Every so often , an employee would be doing a spin , cleaning and asking lobby customers if they need anything. Most of the times they don't need anything since soda, coffee , salad dressing are all self-served. So why ask? It's a smart strategy. I eat at panera at least twice a week. Mostly lunch since its very close to where I work. I wad adventurous today and tried the ham and cheese with cinnamon swirl. I got disappointed, the ham seemed a bit dry and bread felt like it was heated in the micro and left to stand for 30 minutes. The cinnamon bun on the other hand wad delight. UPDATED REVIEW: This Panera has made a lot of changes for the better. They check the orders before they go out and my order is almost always correct now! Their online ordering system has made it incredibly convenient. I order from work, drive to the location (about 10 minutes away), and the order is ready and waiting for me. The staff aren't super friendly. If something is wrong with my order, they act like it's my fault and reluctantly fix it. PREVIOUS REVIEW: I really like Panera's food but I have certain dietary restrictions so I have to change some things in my order whenever I go. They aren't very flexible with that because my order is almost always wrong. A few days ago I ordered a simple turkey panini and they forgot the turkey. I'm not sure how they came to the conclusion that I didn't want the main component of the sandwich that I ordered. I complained but so far I haven't heard anything. This is not a low rating for this particular Panera but for all Paneras who have this one particular irritating feature. After a Yelp Elite event, I stopped by this Panera to catch up on some reading. Panera is always spacious with bright lights to help readers like myself enjoy a hot beverage with my books. BUT, holy crap, the saxophone jazz music playing in the room as the ambiance music...I was getting flashbacks from the Audi commercial played at the Super Bowl where Kenny G was used to lure all the senior citizens into relaxing. Anyways, I have nothing against smooth saxophone jazz but I think I realized today that prolonged exposure will slowly accelerate my age. If this applies to you, bring your own music and headphones. Food was Ok but very pricey. I probably won't come back. I had the bacon, tomato, grilled cheese but didn't like it too much the tomato was like a dried style with a funky marinade that gave it a weird taste. We also had the chicken tortellini Alfredo that was ok nothing weird in that. I gave it a 3 star because it wasn't my type of place but maybe someone else's. I guess this stuff is gold on the east coast, but when I went there for dinner one night, it was pretty small and pretty overpriced. Also, the fruit that I got wasn't that fresh. Apples are cheap, they could at least get the ones that are firm, not soft. The bread tasted good, but I could have just as easily bought some bread for a quarter of the price and put whatever meat I wanted on the bread.
