I came in here with my wife for the first time cause we heard lots of good things about Panera. As we were walking towards the cashier we walked past a display of pastries. Interested we looked at each one. We saw several flies flying around the pastries and one was sitting on a brownie. A lady who works there came over to take our order so we told her about the bug on the brownie. She just waved them away and said "Those little buggers" and asked if we would like to order some pastries. We replied "Hell No!" That was just nasty, we are not going back. Hit or miss....I would say a miss for today. I've had better experiences at other Panera locations. - Fuji Apple Chicken Salad: Citrus-herb chicken, mixed field greens, romaine lettuce, vine-ripened tomatoes, red onions, pecans, Gorgonzola, apple chips & white balsamic apple vinaigrette. The chicken was flavorful, the dressing was good (I wish they gave more, not enough = not enough flavor for my salad). They should have used fresh Fuji apples (only a few slices of the apple chips here and there). - Chipotle Chicken Panini Sandwich: All-natural pepper-mustard chicken, smoked bacon, smoked cheddar, tomatoes & ancho-chipotle spread. Toasted, warm, and delicious with a little spicy kick to it. This came with a pickle slice too. Both items listed above came with a choice of either a mini slice of their baguette, a small apple, or a bag of chips. I asked for a bag of chips for one order and a bagette for the other. They gave me two bagettes. The pager vibrated instantly after I paid and sat at a table. But the people working behind the counter did not acknowledge me or a few other people after me waiting with flashing buzzers in their hands, until a while later to tell me that my order was not ready yet. I then had to drop off the pager and walk back to check up on my order. P.S. I do remember coming here early in the morning to grab some souffles (delicious and run out quick, don't count on getting any in the evening!!) and a baguette. Yup went in today not know what to get. So I had a The Italian Combo. yum -o. The Service was fast maybe it's cause I went in around 4 in the afternoon. The plus side is free wifi the booth have plugs on the side so you can plug in and get connected. I did noticed most people had their laptops. They also give you this pager thing that lights up when your order is ready pretty nifty i think. I gave it 5 stars cause they guy that took my order forgot to give me my cup for the drink although he did bring it to me, so it's all good. Price is decent for what you get i couldn't finish my sandwich so i brought mine home ha ha. Next time I want to try their Calm chowder. Sound yummy especially on a cold fall day. I really like this place. The "You Pick Two" option lets you choose any two of their list of soups, salads, and sandwiches. I'm not very adventurous so I always get the Tuscan Chicken sandwich with the Strawberry Poppyseed & Chicken salad. The salad is great, with lots of fruit and delicious pecans. Mmm, I love the pecans. Once in a while I'll go to throw out my tray and just as the trash starts to slide off I'll notice a wayward pecan that I missed while eating. That's when my cat-like reflexes meet my raccoon-like sensibilities and I'll grab the pecan as it's mere inches from inedible doom. Be forewarned about the side salads though-- they'll charge you extra if you get a salad with chicken on it, unless you specifically tell them to leave the chicken off. This isn't really explained on the menu, although the one time I asked about the mysterious charge on my receipt the manager repeatedly explained to me that they "charge extra for protein." [Insert joke here.] To his credit, he was apologetic about the lack of warning on the menu and gave me a free bakery item. My other advice is to replace the Focaccia bread of the Tuscan Chicken sandwich with their Toasted Whole Grain bread. The Focaccia is good too, but I prefer the Whole Grain because it's lighter. And speaking of bread, the sandwiches come with a side of chips or a slice of a baguette. The chips are fine if you like that, but the French baguette is really great. I save it for the end because its my favorite part of the whole meal. The only fault I can find with Panera is that some of the cashiers are a little clueless and special orders get messed up occasionally. One time we had this really slow cashier and we tried to order two sandwiches with a couple ingredients left off. She kept pushing buttons on her register for like three minutes as I watched the register total climb from about $13 to over $80. She wouldn't look up or ask anyone for help-- apparently her solution to any register problem is to "add more sandwiches!" But eventually the order was straightened out and a delicious time was had by all. read more

The food is really good when prepared properly but it seams that this restaurant sometimes has a problem I ordered a grilled Panini sandwich and it was cold inside so I asked the server to please heat this sandwich up and right away he starts throwing additude bad enough he had the personality if a grape nut, anyway he takes my sandwich then brings it back and says we're making you a new one so then I asked it to be wrapped to go now here we go with the additude.. THIS REVIEW IS FOR THEIR CATERING ONLY! I work nearby and my company places a lot of orders for pickup from this location. Their food is decent and they only screw up our orders about half the time. (Which they get pissy about and claim they've double checked.... well then triple check, because we're missing something AGAIN) Anyway, we placed a catering order for some corporate visitors today. Did it all online, easy peasy. We get a phone call saying that they need to deliver a half hour after our selected window... ok, no prob since it was a last minute order - but it'd be nice if your online system knew when you already had deliveries scheduled. Then I get a request from my boss to change something. I call and ask and am told that I'm going to have to come in and pick up the changed item because their truck is about to leave.... WTF, it's 10am? Our catering order isn't being delivered until 12:30! You mean to tell me that our food is going to be sitting in your van for two and a half hours before it gets to us? "Well yeah, it's not like you ordered anything hot... it's all cold. Our van is cold so it's not like they'll get soggy." Um... no it's not, I've gotten catering before - your van is just a van. It's not refrigerated or anything. "We're just two people, so we have to do it this way. You're going to have to come pick up the item." Ya know what, I don't really mind having to pick up the changed item - at least I know it will be FRESH and not have been baking in the back of some stupid van for two and a half hours! TL:DR? This location has the tablet kiosks when you walk in, like 10 in a row. We used one of them to order. I've always been satisfied with Panera food, but not necessarily with their prices. A full Cuban sandwich, half a Asian chicken salad, and two regular fountain drinks came out to $29! Wow, this place is becoming like Jamba Juice --- pricing themselves out of existence. Maybe like $20 or $22 maybe, but $29 - Cmon'. Just for the simple fact of the price gouge, I'm removing (1) star. Picked up some breakfast here today. I find that every breakfast option is high in calories with the average probably in the 500 realm. Which is why I don't go here a lot for breakfast. The soufflés are small but good if you can afford the calories (470-570 cals and I wouldn't say they're "filling" but will do until the next small meal in 2-3 hrs.) The ham, egg power sandwich is on the lower side at 350 and has the most bang for the caloric buck, with cheese, meat, egg and bread! Satisfying if you crave savory in the mornings and not as guilt-inducing as most of the other sweet treats offered here. A couple stars off for the male, Russian-accented, blond cashier kid who swept off his entire shoulder and front of his shirt while I stood there deciding what to order. Even took his baseball cap off and wiped his head and face down, too, all with his bare hands and I didn't see him go for any handy antibacterial gel afterwards- just went ahead and touched my cup and took my money. Yuck! I always wanted a dusting of lint and dead skin on my uncovered pastries. He needs to be better trained. Do that sh&t in the back room, please. So on a random Sunday afternoon, my friends and I were looking for a nice place to go to that has free wi-fi. We normally go to the Coffee Factory in San Jose, but my friend's gf is always bitching about the African cab drivers that also go there, and how loud they are. In any case, it was a nice change of pace anyway. So, like all other Panera Breads I have been to, you have a combination of booth style seating and regular tables. They play some nice, quiet music in there too, in case you don't want to put on your headphones, but still have some nice background music. What I like the most is that they have very large tables, and the internet connection inside is fairly stable and fast. I have been to the Panera in Cupertino, and the wireless in there seemed to be very unreliable. I wish it could be more like the Milbrae Panera though, where you have power outlets on the sides of each of the booths. In any case, for going there on a whim, I really liked the layout of the place, and glad that I had a good connection to the Internet. read more

This location = good service. Since Panera is a chain, you all probably know about the pricing... and that it's not cheap, but it's worth it every once in awhile. Lunch alone will sometimes cost me $15, yes, when I semi-binge. But it's all so good! Try their mac and cheese... amazing!!! People always drag me here and I can't figure out why. If you unfortunate enough to come here during lunch time you will definitely wait in a line that is to the door. Standing in line I can't help but ask myself what am I missing, seriously why do people love this place so much? Once you finally put your order in you have to fight to find a table. A lot of people seem to come here for the free wifi and take up a table for hours at a time which makes finding a seat a lunch a serious pain. If you are able to find a table the only thing that you have to look forward to is the arrival of your mediocre food. I've tried a number of things on the menu and come to the conclusion that nothing they serve is any good. I normally order the chopped chicken cobb salad, it's boring but sometimes you have to accept your fate and order the best available option. I think it's fitting that they play annoying elevator music here, that way even the people who like the food will end up being miserable after being forced to listen to it for a while. read more

I was very disappointed with Panera on Coleman today. It is obvious that none of the employees are trained to update themselves with the daily menu or handle situations. Prior to visiting the store, I called and talked to someone named Jimmy or Jeff, and I asked if they were serving the black bean soup today. He said yes. I get to the store, the line is out the door, which is normal, however today it was going slower than usual. I waited in line for 10 minutes, from 1:00-1:10pm. I get to the cashier and the menu board has the black bean soup displayed. I ordered just the soup to go. The cashier's name was Nathalie and she took the order. When the pager paged me to pick up my food, I get there, and my soup is in the bag with the chips. The manager is standing there, I say, "Is this mine?" He said yes, but they were not serving Black Bean soup that day. So, they were about to send me away with the garden soup if the manager had not stepped in. He then denied that the Black Bean soup was on the menu board when he went to check. I went back to the cashier part and someone had removed it, so either he removed it then was lying to me or someone else removed it right after I ordered it. I then saw the board in back of him and pointed it out. He became embarrassed and quickly looked down to the register as he processed my refund. He made a mild gesture of apology by offering me the garden soup, I don't want the garden soup, and it's disgusting! He then refunded my money with an apology under his breath. As he was getting my money, Nathalie, the person who rang me up, said, "Oh, was this the Black Bean Soup? Yeah, he (some name) just told me we aren't doing it." This made me even more upset because she didn't take responsibility for her actions and come get me to tell me; instead I spend more time waiting for my food, only to be disappointed. This is the third time this has happened to me. I will order what is on the board, only to find out it's not being served. Three times is too many, one time I was able to let it pass, and twice, is fine, but three times. There is an obvious break down from management to employees. Whoever is opening the store in the morning has failed to update the menu accordingly and has failed to give an update to employees as they check in to work. This is a horrible way to do business. The soup menu board has hand written food options on it, this diminishes the quality of how Panera should look as well. I am not happy with how the situation was handled and how employees here are, there are only about two employees at this restaurant who I look forward to taking my order. The communication break down from management to employees and the store set up is seriously demising the image of Panera to me. read more

The menu is so big that I decided my life would be more meaningful if I systematically and methodically went through and tasted every item. I grabbed a menu and checked off my first order. Since then I have checked off 7 or 8 more items since I work right across the street for the kick ass Guadalupe River Park & Gardens (www.grpg.org). Everything has been either better than average or at least decent. Once I ordered the Chinese Chicken Salad to go and wished I had them toss it ahead of time since I am one of those people who wants every piece of lettuce or morsel in a salad to be uniformly coated with dressing. One of the powers that be at Panera had a stroke of genius and decided that instead of just half sandwich and/or half soup and/or salad, you can actually order half of one kind of sanwich and half of a different kind of sandwich, which of course drastically reduced the amount of my life I will have to spend until I get everything on the menu checked off. Panera, home of the famous You Pick Two menu. You Pick Two is the shit! You can have a salad and sandwich, a salad and soup, or a sandwich and soup. And this applies to ALL of the soups, salads, and sandwiches on the menu. Oh yeah, you get a side too (chips, baguette, or an apple). I swear they invented it just for me. At restaurants I always read through the entire menu at least 5 times and still need more time to order. I'm so indecisive. You Pick Two really simplifies things. I felt the food is healthier than most sandwich options and service here was wonderful. I ordered a half sandwich (chicken chipotle) and half salad (fuji apple chicken) and then a bowl of soup. The soup was take-out the rest dine in. They got my order right. For $7 you get a half sandwich and half salad. I think because I ordered the salad that had chicken, it felt more filling. I finished the salad and ate only half my sandwich before feeling full. I didn't even get to eat my apple. I got a giftcard to this place as a Christmas bonus from the boss. I wasn't so sure about it cuz I'd never been there. I'm sorry I waited so long. I loooooove bread so I'm sold on this place. I ordered the potato cheese soup in a bread bowl and my fiance ordered a turkey panini. Both were amazingly good. And the caramel latte's let me tell you, they are like crack I'm hooked now. It was about 20 bucks for both of us so it's a little on the expensive side. But I think its worth it. Got a toasted bagel and caramel latte for breakfast the other morning. Fabtastic!! Every time I go into this Panera or the one on Hamilton, I think to myself "I need to Yelp this place." So finally...I'd like to sing their praises mainly due to their excellent service. I go 2-3 times per month and usually call ahead for pick up. Every person I've ever come into contact with has been uber-friendly and knowledgeable. My order is always ready when I get there and they quickly rush me to the front of the line to pay. If I order in-store, my order is ready in 5 minutes, TOPS. It's a great place for a quick lunch. This location has some nice seating outside and they all seem to have wifi. I had some trouble getting through to place an order a few months back...when you pressed 3 to place your order it just hung up on you. I mentioned this to the manager when I went into the store. He must have thanked me 5 times for bringing this to his attention. In terms of food, I usually stick to salads. During the summer they have a really good Strawberry poppy seed salad. During non-summer months I get the Cobb salad. The cookies are really good too, especially the chocolate chipper and chocolate duet. My only complaints are: 1. That they serve Pepsi, not Coke (so I usually get lemonade). 2. The Tomato Mozzarella sandwich wasn't very good. Could have been my own fault for ordering tomatoes post-season. read more

Great place to study while getting a bite to eat! It's not as crowded as any of the coffee shops in the area and because it's only full of old people and professionals getting lunch it's quiet. Warning, there's a 30 min limit for the internet between 11-2pm but the manager just told me I could just reset after 2pm. Also the same staff is great and one of them is a Japandroids fan! The smell of fresh bread baking is always a good thing. I come here for the fresh baked sourdough when I want to make my double stacked turkey bacon sandwiches. I love the fact that they slice it for me! The bread samples while you wait in line are nice too. There is so much to choose from here. The egg souflee's are the perfect picnic food. When I take my son for an outing to the park, I always stop here first to pick up his favorite- the spinach, bacon, onion, and cheese egg souflee. The sandwiches are good. My favorite is a hot panini called the Frontega Chicken. The tender, white meat chicken, melted mozzarella, tomatoes, red onion, chopped basil, and chipoltle mayo on rosemary and onion focaccia all work well together. Try it sometime! read more

Service: Friendly amidst the lunch hour rush Value: Good food and a good amount. Enough to satisfy, but not satiate. Tip: Try the Pick Two meal....soup / salad and half a sandwich. This place is pretty good, however, it's a bit pricey. I usually order the half soup and half sandwich combo which comes to be about $8. The clam chowder and potato soups are pretty tasty, but the chicken noodle soup was def. not a fav. I also usually order the smoked turkey sandwich. Panera is a great place to hold group meetings because they have a lot of tables and wireless internet!! Employees also come around offering free bagels, croissants, and other pastries if you stay there for a while! This is my favorite Panera because it's right next door! The service is friendly. They even gave me their gigantic nutrition facts binder just so I could look up items! Very handy! But the results were kinda sad. Let's just say I'm not going to eat a giant foccacia bread sandwich thinking it's healthy ever again .. not that I really eat carbs but that's just another reason to stay away! So back to my review...besides the service being friendly .. it's prompt and everything is clean. They wipe tables all the time to keep it clean and I see everyone making the food wearing gloves! Drinks are typical of a coffee/tea place. If you order tea you get to get cute lil tiny tea bags out of a glass jar and put them in yourself. They have cool flavors too! The bakery section ... AHH!! Carb heaven/nightmare. Tons of yummy looking baked goods. They even have muffin tops (or you will get one after eating here too much) so you don't have to get a whole muffin. My favorite are the giant cinnabun rolls I make my boyfriend eat for me. It's a good place to read a book if you're one of those people that could handle environmental noise when it gets busy. I had lunch here one day. The smoke house turkey panini was horrible. It was greasy and salty. I was pretty sure that it killed my taste buds. I also had the chicken noodle soup with my half panini. It was even worse than the panini. The noodles had no texture what-so-ever. In fact, it looked like it had exploded inside the soup. And the only thing I tasted was not chicken broth, it was salt. This was like campbell's canned chicken noodle soup at best. The reason I gave this place 3 stars instead of one is because they give you the option of an apple with your meal, and the apple was the best part of the meal. + .5 star They also have these wonderful muffy's that are like muffin tops. Delicious muffin tops without the muffin stomp. =) + 1.5 stars! I usually wouldn't review Panera because, really, why bother. . . it's a chain. But this thing I just ate - this thing Panera alleged to be a panini - warrants a review. I ordered the smokehouse turkey panini to go - bacon, turkey, melted cheese, hot pressed bread . . .sounds good, right? Wrong. Oh, so wrong. I opened up the bag and was greeted by a greasy wrapper within which was a squished mass of soggy bread, congealed cheese and limp, cold bacon. It looked like they had taken someone else's leftover panini from an hour prior, threw it in a bag and called it a day. Which is probably exactly what happened because my buzzer started going off while I was still at the cash register paying.
