Another Panera location today, stopped in to get a Sip Club drink on a hot Winter day . If you are not aware of the Sip Club, I highly recommend people to join, you pay a monthly or yearly fee and you can get unlimited drinks every two hours every day. This is well worth it for me as I am always traveling around So. Cal. Or where ever and can always grab a soda, coffee, tea, etc. anytime I want. This location is right off Sam Marcos Blvd. Next to the Costco. It also has a drive thru which is nice if you are in a hurry. They have seating on their outdoor patio or a lot inside. It is clean inside and looks newer. Easily location to get into and has a large private parking lot. read more

This one is tough. I got a chai tea, pumpkin sugar cookie and ciabatta bread w/ butter. It was soooooooo overpriced but it was also delicious. I would definitely eat it again but not pay for it again. $8 for coffee & $4 for one cookie, $7 for bread. These are nutso prices. The tip option comes up 1st at check out but that makes no sense because you have to go get your own food and bus your own tables. They should be tipping me 3.5 is my rating. read more

I stopped by this Panera a couple of days ago. I had expectations based on many visits to a Panera near my former workplace in Carlsbad in the late 20-teens. It was very disappointing compared to the "old Panera" experience. The menu has changed, old favorites are gone, portions are MUCH smaller, and prices are higher. The space was fine, bright and pleasant. My order was very simple, just one sandwich and the service for that was fine. Panera was bought out by a venture capital firm in 2017 and they have run the brand into the ground harvesting cash from the business. read more

I'm not a Panera fan and I probably will never be one. Sorry. It's just the ultimate cookie cutter restaurant and they all look and feel perfectly identical. HOWEVER, my bagel sandwich was legitimately very good. Was it worth 10 bucks? Probably not, but it was delicious and filling. And it came with a tiny bag of chips (you can get an apple or a small piece of baguette instead, if you prefer). The bagel I tried was the Spicy Steak Asiago Bagel Stack (stack?) which comes with steak, provolone, salsa verde spread, red onions, arugula, and sweet peppers. It's definitely on the spicier side, which I like. There is a lot going on here with all the ingredients but overall, it's very good. Also, it's only available for a limited time. I also sampled the Grilled Chicken and Avo BLT and it was fine but nothing amazing. In fairness, there is only so much you can do with the basic sandwich. The ingredients were fresh and the bread was good. Panera does bread really good, no question. Their mac and cheese is also solid. This Panera location is brand spanking new and even has a drive through, which I didn't know Panera restaurants offered. The interior was clean but not as spacious as I expected. There is plenty of free parking in the lot. Am I a Panera fan now? No, but the food is high quality and, damn it, their bread is really very good. read more

Once a Favorite, Now a Disappointment I've been a 25+ years Panera customer, and their cinnamon bagels used to be "legendary"-warm, flavorful, and generously sized. Unfortunately, the bagels have noticeably shrunk while prices have gone up. What once felt like a treat now feels more like something you'd pick up at a 7-Eleven. My recent visit was also a customer service headache. When I arrived to pick up my order, the staff couldn't locate my name in the system, even after I gave my phone number three times. The ordering system showed I was eligible for a free baguette, but because they couldn't find my name, I was told I couldn't get it. Good customer service would have been to honor the reward, especially after I spent over \$55 on smaller-than-usual bagels with no cream cheese included. For a place that built its reputation on quality and hospitality, this was a real letdown. Unless something changes, I may not be returning anytime soon. read more

It's Panera, what do you expect? First off, I don't dislike Panera Bread. It's not terrible, I don't especially fight the suggestion when someone in my party wants to come here, it's just never my first choice when it comes to going out and getting a sandwich (or soup, or pastries, or even bread in general). If it's just me, I might stop by for a Baguette, or one of their Almond Pastries. But, I would never stop here for a meal on my own volition. This particular Panera location is actually quite nice. It's smaller on average compared to other Panera's, giving it more of a cozy cafe feel. The outside is clean, though you're on San Marcos Blvd, so it can be a bit noisy. Last time I came here, it was for my six year old daughter who eats Macaroni and Cheese as one of her staple meals. Normally she only eats Kraft, but Panera is one of the few others she'll actually eat. As for myself, after eating multiple sandwiches, salads, and soups from here, I have slowly come to one conclusion. I kind of imagine that if the cafeteria at your High School had ever subcontracted out their food to a third party that would mass produce 'healthier' fare for hungry teens on a daily basis for a price that won't completely piss off local taxpayers ... food from Panera Bread is what I would expect them to get. Honestly, eat here if your mother forces you to. But, if you want a great sandwich, Sub-Marine is right across the street. read more

Went to the newer Panera, by the CostCo business in San Marcos, this afternoon for the first time. I wanted a salad to go with our dinner this evening. What a great salad selection they have! I decided on the Mediterranean Greens with Grains, topped with whole grain blend, hummus, feta, cucumbers and red onions. Once home, I opened the salad container to divide into two bowls. my husband took one look and said he didn't want salad. I tried to pick through the wilted, brown lettuce and find pieces that were edible. The onions were immediately discarded. The cucumbers were soft and obviously a couple of days old, the hummus was scary looking and had a thick crust formed on its outside. The 'grains' were a version of a childhood cereal with soft, puffy, brown things. I did take a few bites, only because I paid $12.00. Needless to say I won't be returning to Panera. read more

I used to love Panera bread restaurants, have great memories of eating breakfasts or lunches with my kids when they were little. Unfortunately, they are not good anymore and I was very disappointed the last 2 times I was there, one time last year at the Carlsbad mall on El Camino and another time last week at the one opened recently on san Marcos boulevard. Both times coffee was lukewarm/ cold. The everything bagel, cheese and Avacado sandwich was awful, how could they mess it up? The bagel was much smaller than regular bagel, the egg was dry and there were somethings like paper in it that I had to spit out, not sure if they microwaved the egg too long or warmed up paper with the egg. It was definitely a fresh egg. The Avacado was not more than a tea spoon and I actually paid extra for that teaspoon of Avacado. Panera have also gotten rid of servers or people that you can talk and place your order with. You might be able to find someone working in the back to come and help you place the order but it's not convenient. I waited for a young man who worked there and he was very nice and placed the order for us, otherwise, You have to order on a computer screen, which I don't like because you can't really ask any questions or customize your order easily, it takes longer to order on a machine as well. I am not coming back to any other Panera restaurant . I'll go to other places for breakfast, I have had consistently good experience at other places I go on weekends, places like Cafe Elise in Carlsbad, peet's coffee in bressi ranch and Einstein bagels are all still my favourite. read more

For $45 for one large salad and one small salad and two drinks at what is no more than completely self service is unacceptable. I can go to nearby Pizza Nova, get complete service for the same thing, and pay $34 plus tip (still less than Panera). Can't figure out why I should go to Panera ever again. read more

They have a drive through here. Food is just okay, not good, not bad, just edible. The large size broccoli cheddar soup didn't have much soup at all, you're just paying more for the bread bowl. Very easy and fast process but they forgot to include half of my "you pick 2 meal" and of course I didn't see this until I was already home. First impressions are I can tell already that the parking lot will be an issue during peak times, but good thing is they have a drive through so that helps alleviate some of that. Regardless, me and two other cars circled around a bit to find a spot. Inside of the place was nice, clean, new. Then again, it's new construction so what do you expect. Staff was plentiful and helpful. Food was what you expect from Panera. But I will say that the chicken salad we got was pitiful for the price. Hardly half a serving of chicken. Maybe like 3 ounces. Realistically I would say 4 stars, but I won't ding the location for things they have no control over (portions and prices.) read more

I arrived at the drive thru and ordered two coffees and two bagels. I asked to add cream cheese and avocado to both bagels but I was told the system didn't allow it. I asked if I could purchase it on the side but that wasn't an option either. This really surprised me considering I've added avocado to many salads there in the past with no issue. Once I arrived home, I opened my bag to see 4 bagel halves tossed into the bag. Not only were they not individually wrapped, but they didn't prepare the bagel with the cream cheese either. Almost every time we do an online order this place gets something wrong and they don't even care when you call in. Sometimes they won't even let you speak to the manager. The last time I called they forgot the sausage on my egg sandwich. Kind of a main ingredient...They didn't even offer to take it off the bill. The manager said come in sometime and we will give you another free sandwich. I asked of he was going to give me a coupon, or email, or coupon code. The manager just said to come in sometime and give them his name and tell them we were told we will get a free breakfast sandwich...really?!!
