The food is much healthier and the restaurant appears nice only with out customer service centered staff through out the experience this company over time would hate to see swallowed . Beleagured service at front counter with only 1 staffer (and no working pen!). No "take a number" system so customers push and shove to get attention. Sandwiches slopped together with mis-sized and torn bread along with turkey "shards" instead of slices, 1 dot of avocado instead of reasonable slices, etc. Really not worth the exorbitant prices. I am also a fan of the Cuban sandwich but since the company has brought this sandwich back I have failed to get prepared right in the last four tries- tonight they were also out of Artisan Ciabatta. I have to say that this was a very disappointing visit. havent been to a Panera in a very long time. I saw a turkey with artichoke sandwich advertised, so I got that with a teeny bag of chips...ALMOST $10 AND IT WAS A 1/2 SANDWICH, which was ok because i didnt finish it anyway, but the turkey was hardly present and the BREAD WAS THE MAIN EVENT. I order rapid pickup from here regularly because it's convenient and close to my work. It seems like my order is frequently missing ingredients or my bowls are only half filled. I ordered a Baja chicken bowl a couple weeks ago and was given the wrong food. I had to go back and ask for it to be remade. You'd think after giving you the wrong food they would would put in extra effort to make sure the correct order was at least well made. But no. I get my Baja bowl and it had one tiny piece of chicken and barely any toppings. A woman who I presume was the manager asked who the order was for and I saw the employee explain that it was an error and had to be remade and motioned that it was for me. She just kinda shrugged and walked away. Made no effort to say anything. Seems like great management. Probably will not continue ordering due to the repeated mistakes. read more

We've gotten bagels from here several times and those were great, but most recently had bad experience. We live in Chicago now, but my wife was going to bring home dinner since she was in Wheaton. They forgot to put my panini sandwich in the bag, which we didn't realize until we got home. I suppose we could have called and they would have probably given us another sandwich, but since we live in Chicago, that wouldn't have worked. Also, the salad that my wife ordered was moldy and virtually inedible. Won't go back to this one again if we're in the area. read more

I came in today around 12:30pm. The restaurant was packed! My friends and I ordered our food, (enough for 3) and figured it would take a while. Our food was ready and brought to our table within 5 minutes of being seated, even though it was a full house. The ladies working the dining room were so polite and attentive. We needed a table cleaned off before we could sit down and without asking, Judy wiped our table and made sure we were comfortable. Food was terrific, atmosphere was nice and homey. I would have given 5 stars for my visit but the spoons we all received with our meal were dirty from previous use. That's my only complaint. Keep up the good work! read more

Such good food! It ranges from a nice place to hang out, to too quiet and empty, to too crowded and noisy. Regardless of the number of customers, this location can be slow in service. The food, however, is as great as it is at the other locations. Favorites are the tuna sandwich, mac n cheeses and even the pb&j. They have great soups and salads as well. My kids really enjoy Panera, and we visit 3 times a month if not more. They must not pay much, literally two new people taking orders every singe time. I've been over 30 times this year and not once has my order been taken from the same person twice. This place is printing money so go figure. Don't even think about going late in the day on a weekend, because they'll be completely out of bread. I don't just mean bread bowls or French baguettes; I'm even talking about sliced bread. It's named Panera BREAD for a reason and on top of that the new hire working the register that given day has no clue " not like he's told the 50 people before me. Usually we are Panera fans, but not good here. No apples on my turkey apple cheddar, also was smothered in sauce to point of inedible. I came in at 8:40PM and ordered the soup for a group and ice tea for two of us. First we were told that there were no clean ladles available since it was so late and ended up making a mess by pouring hot soup into the bowls. A little after 9PM the tea was removed without warning. Be warned that if you come in late and get served in the store that it will be shutdown around you. I've gone to this Panera 2-3 times and ordered food to go each time. I don't know if they're always low staffed or something, but they take forever. Each time, I'm standing around for 10+ minutes waiting on just one panini sandwich. They have a computer monitor by the pickup counter that tells you which order they're working on, and the last time I went, I saw that 3 people after me on the list got their food before me. Very annoying when you're in a rush to leave. The Panera on 64 in St. Charles has much quicker service, and I feel that their food quality and preparation/presentation is much better than this Wheaton location. read more

I enjoy the variety on the menu and have been eating at many locations for many years and I will probably go there today but the potions of the food has really changed especially based on the ever rising prices. Spent a few hours here on a Sunday morning while my son reffed soccer games in the rain. I chose this location over another that was closer to the fields based on reviews. The staff was friendly and courteous. They offered me a soufflé right out of the oven instead of one of the 2 on display which I really appreciated as they are better that was instead of microwaved. There is free WiFi and 4 outlets under my booth so it was easy to get work done. The tables, floors and bathroom were all clean and the coffee station was well stocked. I frequent this location 3-4 times per week. In last few months they have transferred all but one Manager to other locations and hired some new people. Dimitri, Mike, Ray and Sam as well as some other really sharp kids work here. You are losing me Panera. Last night was last chance---I came home (after order was checked) to find soggy won ton strips on my Thai Broth Bowl. Last week I had to go back to get my broth for my broth bowl. This has happened 4 times now. Yesterday at 6:45pm they were out of practically everything and after I received my order there were an additional 15 people in line. If you can't get your inventory right, or your orders right, how do you expect to keep your customer base. Panera is not cheap and the clean food concept is appealing but not if time after time the order is wrong. PS-I am not a fan of order checking, hands are not clean. I ordered two Greek salads online for Rapid Pick Up. I planned to eat lunch with a friend who was sitting at a chemo treatment. The salads were ready as scheduled. I did not check the contents of the salad boxes before I left the store. When we opened the boxes we found nothing but lettuce, a couple of mushy tomatoes and a few beat up olives. No pepperoncini and no cheese. Cucumbers were added and the dressing was on the side as requested. We were both hungry and so disappointed with our lunch. When I returned from the appointment I called the store. The recording gave me a prompt to talk to a manager. When the call transferred, it rang 10-12 times and then dropped. No voicemail or option return to the main menu. I gave up at that point. Fortunately there are numerous good alternatives to Panera in the area for future lunch needs. read more

I've encountered a few smart a-- teenagers with plenty of attitude in the past but what are ya gonna do. We were all teenagers at one time. I normally don't rate super common chains, but I felt like this specific Panera deserves good publicity. This place is right by where I live so I stop by a lot - especially for potato soup! I'm addicted to it! They are always friendly and get my order out quickly and correctly. But the thing that sets it apart is that the management really tries to blow you away. We went late one evening and they were out of a few items we asked for (which is to be expected later in the evening). We totally didn't mind and told the manager that was ringing us up that it was fine, but without any prompting gave us free drinks, half off our meal, and a free cookie (and tried to give us more but we refused)!! It's one thing to take care of a customer that is upset and yelling if there is a service failure, but to go above and beyond for two people who tell you they totally understand is completely unexpected and refreshing. I hope they hold on to their management staff because they are clearly doing something right! :) read more

Very bad customer service experience. I dont know if these people are just miserable or they were having a bad night or what but the store wasn't even that busy. I have been coming to Panera for years & Im also a former employee. So I know Panera goes out of the way to make sure customers are treated very well. I ordered a bowl of broccoli cheddar and a pick 2 chicken Cesar salad sandwich & a soup. I was very aware that they no longer carry that sandwich but it's literally the salad on bread with onion, lettuce, and tomato... so the cashier rang my order up as a chicken avocado blt on foccasia bread which I asked for. Never asked me if I wanted bread, chips or a side... So when I got to the counter when my food was done it was completely wrong. They gave me a chipotle chicken & cheese on some kind of panini bread... I asked the man behind the counter if this is suppose to be a chicken Cesar sandwich. he was like No...that's not what the order says. Im like she was suppose to substitute the ingredients. With a nasty attitude he goes well your suppose to tell her exactly every ingredient on the sandwich. They don't know what it is there new here and we don't carry that sandwich. Im like yeah well I did and it's literally a CHICKEN CAESAR SALAD on bread. Then he like made a noise like blowing air out his mouth like he was just so annoyed with me and says well what do you need then lettuce and tomato. I'm like yes and focassia bread because that's what I ordered. he grabbed all the ingredients and put it in a soup cup and threw it on my plate with the bread. I was beyond pissed off after that. so I went to sit down with my husband and looked at the chicken. It didn't even look like fresh chicken and it didn't even taste right....I was livid at this point. I paid $20 to make my own sandwich... if that was the case give me a damn apron and ill go make it myself the correct way. So while im already pissed off I go to eat my soup and they gave me a dirty spoon. so at that point I had enough. My husband and I brought our food up to the register and asked for a refund. He gave us our refund never even attempted to save the sale and ask to replace our meal. Never apologized or even said bye when we left. Usually I wouldn't make a big deal but this is one of my favorite food places and I literally love to eat here. It just really pissed me off how he talk to me and acted as if it was my responsibility for how the food is made. You dont give people dirty silverware and when the orders wrong you correct it. Not just throw the food on the plate for the customer to do it themselves. Very rude and horrible customer service. I believe he was the manager or supervisor too. You can tell the employees are very unhappy here. I will never come back to this place again. read more

I frequently visit the local Panera Bread in Rice Lake Square and I thoroughly enjoy my bread bowls with a side of freshly squeezed lemonade. Recently, however, they have made me very displeased with the way things are running here. I have been interrupted by continuous vacuuming around my personal space as I indulge in my favorite activity: eating bread bowls. Not only have I been interrupted, I have also been let down. I have always liked Panera products, but am hesitant to go back after my last experience. I ordered the carmelized kale and turkey sandwich. The turkey tasted days old. I seriously thought there was something wrong with it. I asked at the counter if they had any complaints recently about it and told the guy that it tasted bad. He just responded with "I don't order the turkey". Not good customer service. I threw it away and left. I complained at the Panera website and was told I would be contacted by the store. Worst Panera location I've ever been to by far. Love Panera. Hate this one. I don't customize my order. Just order off the menu. But they manage to mess up the item the majority of the time. Today was a chicken chop salad that I brought home to find no chicken, and no gorgonzola cheese. Last time it was a fuji apple chicken salad with no chicken and a different type of lettuce. Sandwich orders are also incorrect. I know it gets rung up correctly because I check the receipt. So it's the preparation area that cannot make the standard items according to standards. I'm afraid to even think of what they'd do if I actually customized an order. I will be going to the Glen Ellyn location from now on. Enough complaining and free vouchers.... My company was catered to from this restaurant (Wheaton, IL) and I found a hair on my turkey/bacon club, naturally after I consumed almost all of the sandwich. The best part of it was a co-worker of mine observed how the hair was somewhat long and curly. Thanks co-worker for that additional insight. Obviously this place needs to have their employees wear hairnets. Gross. It was embarrassing having to tell the rest of the staff to check their sandwiches, bread and cookies. read more
