So my stupid cats got up at 5:08am to be fed, and believe me, they are relentless. I am vegan and will only feed them if I glove up, so my husband takes care of it. Anyway, this morning, Ed wanted to go to to breakfast at Denny's as they are the only place open at 5:08 am. Our server, Guillermo, was fantastic! They offer nothing for vegans (get with the times)! They offer plenty for vegetarians and omnivore. My husband ordered the Great American Slam, which consisted of hashbrowns, 4 eggs, bacon and sausage. It also came with and English Muffin (tip: order the muffins (or toast) dry and ask for the butter on the side. The nuclear-colored "butter" that they brush it with, DH says, is disgusting. They offer disabled restrooms. I was puzzled as to what to rate Denny's. Not a 5-star place, but certainly 5 stars for the only place open at 5am! We're both headed home to flop into bed for a looong time!!! Those two heathen cats! read more

We always have a good dining experience at this Denny's. Service is quick. The menus change often so there is always something new to try.

I was there for my bday and had a free slam. My server Lisa (who got triple sat when I was put in her section) was pleasant, efficient, and acted like I was her only table - it was a pleasure to watch! My slam was great - I had the breakfast burrito option. Will do it again. My only complaint was the manager Eric - he decided to have what should have been a private conversation with an employee (with Lisa as interpreter) on the floor by the cash register for everyone to hear. I felt bad for both employees. As a prior manager, that was distainful behavior on his part. Shame on you! Treat your employees and customers with more respect! read more

Denny's normally has a very large selection on their menu. It was a little disappointing tonight when we arrived to find that the once multiple page menu has been replace with a one sheet card. Its says temporary holiday menu but I have my doubts. Even with the short menu selection they were heavily promoting their turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Only to find that it was sold out. OK, enough with the negative as we actually had a great time there and our food was delicious! I had a new menu item called Big Dipper Melt and it came with perfectly cooked and delicious fries. The Dipper is a Tender pot roast with melted Swiss cheese, caramelized onions and mayo on grilled Texas toast. Served with French onion au jus for dipping. This was incredible! So delicious I am going to order it again on my next visit. I remember Denny's over many years now. It has evolved into a great eating establishment. Great food at a very reasonable price. read more

Stopped in about 7:45 pm on Dec 23, 2023 - it had been YEARS since I had been to this location. Probably not somewhere I would rush to come back. - Place was DEAD when we arrived - there might have been 7 customers total inside - our table of 2, another table of 3, and 1-2 stragglers elsewhere. As noted, it wasn't terribly late (7:45-ish) and aside some drizzle, weather was fairly decent for this time of year (upper 40's) and it was a Sat night. Christmas season yes, but only 3 miles East on Gary Ave. both Texas Roadhouse and Cooper's Hawk restaurants were BOOMING with cars. Point being - somebody's doing/offering something better to get people in their doors, as years ago, this Denny's used to be mobbed. Covid is pretty much over, and as stated - it wasn't bitter cold or inclement weather or 2am. - Service was pretty lackluster. When we came in, the host/manager told us to just "pick wherever we wanted to sit". Ok cool. Our server was nice, but very slow - and he probably was the only server in the restaurant. Again there were not that many people. We asked for a few extra minutes (initially) to place our order, and he didn't come back for about 20 minutes. - Food prices in general seemed very high, and "jacked". A regular Grand-Slam is now about 11.99 (remember the days when it was 7.99, 5.99, 3.99, and even 1.99??), and you get LESS. It used to be 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 bacon, and 2 sausage links. Now it's 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 1 bacon, 1 sausage. Everything tasted good - but as stated - the prices are all jacked and at this rate (Denny's used to be known as a bargain place), you probably could go to any other restaurant and pay about the same, or even a bit less for your average dinner plate. Probably wouldn't come back except for some rare circumstance. Nothing was terrible by any means, but there was nothing here that would entice me to come back anytime soon. Best place to go when you're feeling down. I always get breakfast meals here but my boyfriend is in love with anything that has chicken in their menu. I've tried their breakfast and their steaks! Very well made. The service is good and they do regularly check in on you. Dennys is a comfort food to me and I'll always revisit when I want to stare at some pancakes and wonder if I should get a to-go. LOVE DENNYS MILKSHAKES. Although, when I went in today.. THE MACHINE WAS BROKEN. So was my heart. I just got nachos and ate them all while talking with Dio, Christine, and Jason. I was still shaken up about the milkshakes so I just asked for a box and the check. Next thing I know. Dio comes out with TWO milkshakes. He un-broke the machine just to get us milkshakes. Looking for somewhere to grab a bite to eat after graduation but, since covid, everything closes super early. Denny's to the rescue! But everyone had the same idea and there were two servers because it was a Wednesday night at 10:00 and two is typically enough. Vinny took our name but was able to seat us almost immediately. We watched as he ran from one thing to another, waiting on a couple larger groups, and still made sure we had refills on our drinks. On a cold Saturday morning, I woke up early. So early that most places that serve breakfast were not yet open. After carefully considering possibilities that were open I said "why not try Denny's?" and soon was on my way there to have some breakfast. It had been at least 10 years since the last time I had set foot in a Denny's. When last I visited a Denny's (quite possibly in the late 90s) it was practically Transylvania inside with more goth dressed people than a midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show. But, since indoor smoking in public places has been banned in Illinois, it's as though garlic and crosses have been hung everywhere and is wannabe-vampire free. As I entered the Denny's I noticed a large skill crane, and soon was seated and given a menu. After looking over options I decided to go for a "Bacon Chipotle Chicken Skillet". No at every other breakfast place I've visited, a skillet is served on a skillet, but includes eggs and some type of potato. The bacon chipotle skillet at Dennys is not the same type of dish. This was like a bacon chicken sandwich was removed from its bun, covered in cheese and put on the skillet. For a side I chose hash browns, so in that sense it was somewhat similar to a traditional breakfast skillet. While both the chicken and the hash browns tasted fine. For the money most other places would have given me a skillet with eggs. I wouldn't say the food was bad, simply too expensive for what I received. Service at Denny's was a bit slow as the waitress was also vacuuming and doing other chores around the restaurant. Overall, my experience at Denny's wasn't terrible, but for the money, I'd rather go elsewhere. I can see why it's been at least ten years since I last visited a Denny's, and it may be another decade before I go again. Two stars, not bad food, but a bad value. read more

This Denny's is 2 minutes from my house, it was 9:30pm and I wanted breakfast. I had been there once before so I knew what to expect. There are two sections in the restaurant and it seems like there are only two servers for each section. The section we were at had about 6 tables taken and only one guy working. This guy seemed to be the host, server and check out person. We waited way too long for everything because he was so busy. The food, it's standard and it filled me up. I got eggs, hash browns, pancakes and ham. My eggs were perfectly cooked, over easy, my hash browns were cold, my ham was dry and tough and my pancakes were good. It's convenient for a late night meal and the food is decent. As long as you know what to expect, you are good. read more

Time changed, quality changed Denny's used to be my family favorite restaurant, until the recession hit in 2008 when they forced to change the way they do business. We went there on Saturday morning for breakfast. There is not much favor in the foods. My wife did not like her dish. My breakfast was ok but the pancake was kind of bad. I love the new decor.I went there yesterday morning for breakfast and I had the best waiter.His name was Joe.He was so polite and he was on his toes with us and everyone around us.He wanted to make sure during our whole meal that everything was ok.Ive been there plenty of times and I have never had that good of service until yesterday.For now on I will definately ask for Joe and hopefully he will be working that day.Also the manager Jake was very nice too and I saw him working on the floor too which is nice to see he helps his team out when needed. read more

Denny's gets a bad rap for bringing in the low class, scum of the earth and goth teens brooding past the midnight hour. They really are a family friendly diner, no different from the other pancake house down the street. It still isn't my favorite place to go, but with several girlfriends on a budget lately, I went along with the idea when a friend suggested it. My friend praised their "$2,4,6,8" menu, but if you stray from that menu, Denny's isn't any cheaper than another pancake house or fast-casual eatery. I peeked at my friend's check - she would have spent less at several area restaurants. The food is always good at Denny's, you always know what you're going to get. I've eaten many Super Bird sandwiches here, milkshakes, chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks, and drank a lot of coffee. Aside from the somewhat spotty service, I never really had any complaints. My wife and I started coming to this Denny's Saturday morningstwo years ago. It started out as our time to decompress from the week and have some time to have an affordable breakfast and time to talk. We love Denny's bold blend coffee. Personally, I prefer their blend over Starbucks. The food is very affordable. On this particular visit I tried for the first time the triple bacon sampler. I am a bacon fan and was pleased. Food is always prepared quickly, tastes fine, and our server (we usually ask for Bernie) does a great job. I can't quite decide how to rate Denny's. Because it's a pretty trashy place, right? But I went in to my Denny's experience not expecting high class, got just what I expected plus some surprisingly good food, and left happy. With all the other restaurants that are available at a similar price point, I wouldn't normally dine here. But my sister and I were lured in by an ad campaign that toted, "the only big thing about a Hobbit is its breakfast," or some such silliness. Hobbit breakfast? Sold. Even though we ended up getting burgers. The restroom is pretty much the worst, and this is the only eatery I can think of where a lady would stand up from a nearby table and loudly and unapologetically pass gas. The booths have kind of a funky smell. All that aside, my sister and I each had a delicious build-your-own burger. They were super good! Actually one of the better burgers I've had lately. I paid a 49 cent up charge for seasoned fries, and it was worth it. Yum. Good shakes and coffee, too. Yes, we ate a lot. Thanks for the option of fresh fruit but bananas and poorly cut cantaloupe is not my view of fresh fruit in the side the cantaloupe is also very over ripe it is not even edible. Not a fan. The food was cold and terrible even by Denny's standards, our orders arrived incomplete, and 25 minutes apart. Waitstaff couldn't care less, and offered no resolution on missing items. We could only stomach 10% of the food and gave up. Asked the waitstaff to take the food away. Got the check, and the manager was mad that we told the waitress to take a full plate of food away. Told us to pay the bill in full and get out (we never asked for a discount, btdub). Not great people. read more
